been a while since i've been updating this blog, but in the spirit of keeping on top of things, and now it's no longer spoilers, here's last week's standings for the Marble Survival 100!

We saw Frost and Rojo Uno go last week; two titans of the competition up to this point. The next round of eliminations will whittle the field down to the top half of competitors. Who of the remaining 18 will be amongst them?

🇸🇰 EXTRALIGA STANDINGS AT THE END OF OCTOBER

Well, that was a bit of a shitshow.

My understanding when we finally got some results yesterday was we would rank forth and get to play more hockey if the winless team we didn't play beat the team we beat by 4 goals or less. The game between those teams was in the evening, and some teammates watched it. Surprisingly, it was a 7-0 blowout win for the winless team over the team we had defeated.

That left 4 teams with identical 1-2 records. The first tiebreaker was head to head. It wasn't super clear how that would work with a four team tie, but each team has one win against the four tied teams (and between zero and two losses among the tied teams).

The second tiebreaker was goal differential. That separated the team that won big last night into the top spot and the one they beat into the bottom. But from the stats posted in the tournament app (more on that later) us and the team we lost to 1-0 in the third game remained tied.

At this point there is some confusion. I believe here the tiebreaker process should restart, with head to head between just those two teams, which would put us in fifth. It seems the tournament organizers instead moved to the next tiebreaker, which was the least penalty minutes. That put us into fourth and into the playoffs against the first placed team. I didn't agree with that but wasn't going to complain too loudly since it meant more hockey and was more an interpretation thing than a clear mistake or error.

But, I mentioned that was based on the stats the app had. The thing about that was they somehow had our first loss Friday night recorded as a 1-4 score (it was really 0-4). They figured that out this morning, and we got word a couple hours before the scheduled game time that with that being corrected the team we narrowly lost to had a one goal better goal difference and is ranked above us for that reason. Meaning they will play instead of us.

That's not a surprise, and I think, unfortunately, the more just result since I felt it should have been that way based on tiebreaker procedures anyway. The disappointing thing about it is the sloppiness of the organization and score keeping and communication of the situation in a timely manner.

But it was still some fun hockey and good to play even though obviously at this point if I'd played better by even one less goal against we would still be playing, which is frustrating considering I felt I only had one good game out of the three.

Final "Best of the Super Junior 30" A Block Standings + Official Match Card for "Best of Super Junior 30" B Block Finals

May 23, 2023: Four people (Mike Bailey, Lio Rush, Titan, and Hiromu Takahashi) all entered Osaka with a chance to be the top 2 in A Block. After 2 intense matches, here are the final standings for A Block of "Best of Super Junior 30"

Finishing on Top is Mike Bailey with 14 points (7-2 record). Tied for second are Lio Rush, Hiromu Takahashi, and Titan with 12 points each (all 3 sported a 6-3 record). However, due to the 1-on-1 records between these 3, Titan will join Mike Bailey as the two representatives for A Block in the Final 4 of "Best of Super Junior 30". Also due to that 1-on-1 record, Lio Rush finishes third and Hiromu Takahashi finishes fourth. In Fifth is TJP with 10 points (4-4 record, 1 forfeit win), Sixth is Taiji Ishimori also with 10 points (4-4 record, withdrew final match due to injury), in Seventh is SHO with 8 points (4-5 record), in Eighth is DOUKI with 6 points (3-6 record), and in the bottom are KUSHIDA with 4 points (2-7 record) and Ryusuke Taguchi with 2 points (1-8 record).

Who will join Mike Bailey and Titan in the Final 4 of "Best of the Super Junior 30" this Friday in Yoyogi? Today (May 24, 2023) we find out as B Block finishes up competition. Here is the official match card for today's show including how those still alive can advance to the final 4 on Friday.

Ive said this before but swear the biggest skill to learn as an adult is how to resist high-pressure sales tactics. You do NOT have to answer questions with anything other than "Sorry I'm not interested." No matter how nice they are or no matter how many follow up questions they ask or even how agitated they get when you stand your ground. Just keep saying I'm not interested. Don't answer their questions. Don't give them an opening to try to push back on your reasons. Be a fucking brick wall of I'm not interested.
