All these mercurial musical figures followed their own whims mostly thanks to their own financial successes. Yes, I put my definition of them in a paradox here, yet allow me to tell you what I mean on the case of David Bowie. Here's the deal – while he did have his own path to chart, I believe he didn't become the Bowie until his 80's that remains one of his most controversial eras. You are familiar with the fact he has been accused of selling out and the numbers from the time support this assertion. However, think of this – he would only be a cult item without him doing the cosplay of a pop star during the 80's. Also hear some of the works from them – some of them suck in a way only he could've made, but those that function marvelously do so because of him.

Anyway, twitter remains a hellhole, but I do love the outpouring of love, affection, and extremely passionate defense of Meg White ever since some rando dissed her drumming.

Lil archival of a message i really liked on the STC Yahoo groups
ABOUT GRIMER WORMTONGUE
(Message ID_ 13800):
Nigel Kitchin: “Right. I'm going to rush this but I'll give you what I can remember. When I first started on Sonic Id imagined that I was expected to use Snively because he was amongst the reference that I had been given. Then Richard Burton (the editor at the time) pointed out that this character had been created for the TV series and we wouldn't have the rights to use him. So I simply came up with Grimer as an alternative. The name: At art college a friend of mine used to be very keen on science fiction and fantasy. One time he was telling me about this character Grima Wormtongue and what a great name that was. For some reason I was under the impression that he was from The Gormenghast Trilogy - probably because this book (as well as Lord Of The Rings) was part of the same conversation. So I just got mixed up. Weird thing is that a couple of years later I read the Lord Of The Rings so I must have come across the character again then. I suppose that when I came up with my Grimer it was many years later and it was the conversation with Pete that came to mind and I simply forgot about Grima being in Lord Of The Ring. The thing that I like about my Grimer is the business of him being pathologically loyal to Robotnik - he wasn't out to advance himself and had no personal ambition that we can make out. He lived to serve his master. We kind of got the same thing with Smithers and Mr Burns in The Simpsons - but I was first, I think. You also asked about the Drakons: When I wrote that first Sentinel story I had a pretty open ending with the Sentinel flying off into space to find his long lost masters. Richard Burton didn't like that and wanted a more dramatic finish - which I supplied. Then Richard went on holiday and Steve McManus stepped in for a couple of weeks. He didn't like the new end to this story (he didn't know it had been written to Richard's specification) and asked me to rewrite it somewhat. I have no idea what I changed for Steve or how the story was after the first rewrite - it was a long time ago... I didn't specifically have the Drakon's in mind when I wrote this but I did know that the Aquatic Ruin Zone (is that what it was called?) was an alien outpost of some kind and I thought that it would be fun to think about what had become of this alien race and what their interest in Mobius was.”
(Message ID_ 13801)
benm2k9:"Wow thanks a lot Nigel! Thats really helpful, and yeah it is Aquatic Ruin zone. Yes I can see what you mean about Grimer being fanatically loyal, I suppose you’ve got to be while Robotnik’s around or you might end up dead :D. Just one more thing, what actually IS he? A lizard? There’s been speculation by a few people on STC-O that he’s somewhat related to Proctor Spectle. Also I’m sure you’ve been asked about this before but the oxygen tanks on his back, whats with them?. sorry about all the questions but its really interesting to know :D”
(Message ID_ 13802)
Nigel Kitchin: "... It s not self-preservation with Grimer though - serving Robotnik is what he aspires to. Different to Snively as we shall see... ... I don t know.

I don't know. These things are the invention of Rich Elson. In fact the hole look of Grimer may be Rich's… Let me explain. all those early scripts I thought I had to use Snively so I probably (can't actually remember to be honest) wrote his personality based on the refs I had. The first time I wrote Grimer as Grimer was in the story featuring Knuckles probably. I don't remember how I came to describe Grimer into Rich and it's possible I wrote something and it's possible that I gave him something to work with over the phone but it's also possible that he just came up with the look himself after Richard Burton told him Snively was off-limits. It just so happens I came across my early Sonic scripts so here is the part of issue 21 that introduces Grimer (well, Snively).
Longer shot of the door to Robotnik's office. We can see that there is a secretary sitting at a desk outside. Once again she is a weird looking human. Snively has approached her desk. Snively is a character from the Sonic TV Series model sheets. He is Robotnik's assistant and has ambitions to power in a Uriah Heep kind of way.
Secretary: I WOULDN'T GO IN THERE IF I WERE YOU, SNIVELY. THE BOSS IS IN A REALLY UGLY MOOD TODAY.
Snively: I'M SURE IT WILL BE ALL RIGHT FOR ME TO ENTER, MY DEAR. I AM THE DOCTOR'S RIGHT HAND MAN, AFTER ALL....
Snively is now in the office but Robotnik has been replaced by a Robotnik-sized egg. Snively registers surprise but not too much, he's a cool scheming character this Snively. The egg is smoking slightly.
Snively: MASTER, IS THAT EGG YOU?
Snively: I REALLY CAN'T BELIEVE I JUST SAID THAT….”

HARTFORD WOLF PACK DROP SHOOTOUT TO SPRINGFIELD THUNDERBIRDS
Tumblr media
By: Gerry Cantlon, Howlings HARTFORD, CT - Despite Louie Domingue's repeating his season-high 42 saves, the Hartford Wolf Pack lost 1-0 to the Springfield Thunderbirds on Quinnipiac grad Matt Peca's glove-high game-winner. Dylan Garand posted a scoreless 65 minutes against Hershey, making the Pack 2-7 in shutouts this season. The lone Pack shootout goal was by a defenseman, newcomer Adam Clendening wearing jersey #5. In overtime, the Pack displayed a strong PK after Matt Robertson was penalized on a Will Bitten clean breakaway. The Pack had three blocks, and broke-up two plays, and Domingue, was solid on the delayed penalty situation on Robertson, while making a beautiful right pad save on Hugh McGing. He had three strong late OT saves on a stick save on Adam Gaudette, Matt Kessel, and Martin Frk to keep it scoreless. The Pack got a solid bid to win early in OT by Will Cullye. In the third period, Domingue was strong, made early saves on Gaudette, leading scorer Matt Highmore, who was just sent down by the St. Louis Blues, and Mathias Laferriere. McGing and Kessel tested Domingue. Steve Santini had a quality shot with Mikhail Abramov in front waiting for the rebound. Zac Jones followed with a good stick stop on Santini on his next shift. The Pack’s Bobby Trivigno, Ryan Carpenter, and then Libor Hájek tested Springfield goalie Joel Hofer in the last five minute overtime. In the final minute, with 45.7 seconds left, Hofer stopped Abramov. Cullye had a good chance as time expired in regulation. The second period saw Springfield mount some sustained offensive zone pressure. First, Carpenter had two shots five seconds apart in the first three minutes. He was left muttering to himself and six minutes in Cullye tested Hofer. Springfield Frk, Mitchell Hoelscher, and Peca were in on Domingue. Matt Rempe was in front and was pushed away by Griffin Luce (Salisbury School). Dmitri Samurukov had a quality shot at Domingue. Karl Henriksson, made a smart defensive covering the left point as Carpenter had two shorts five seconds apart in the first three minutes, left muttering to himself. Karl Henriksson made a quality defensive play at the left point, preventing any Springfield breakout and keeping the puck in as Hájek pinched in. The first period felt like a training camp period with the Wolf Pack, as they have had seven players traded over the last 72-hours all finding new addresses. Finding chemistry was going to be tough. Not changing was captain Jonny Brodzinski. At 3:40, the Pack had the first quality shot on goal in a scoreless first period. Matt Robertson from the left point. Hofer stopped Rempe on the Springfield doorstep. At 10:03 the Pack tested Hofer with their tenth shot on goal. Both teams had a powerplay chance, and neither registered a shot on goal. Domingue made a save at 12:57 and at 14:23. Newcomer Jake Leschyshyn had a chance with 1:50 to go in the period. Riding a four-game winning streak, and enduring having their lineup changed during the week. the Wolf Pack were ready for an all-important three-games-in-three-days weekend. The first two games are on the road. On Friday, they head twenty minutes up the road back to Springfield and then an hour South to Bridgeport to meet the Islanders on Saturday. Then, they have a Sunday mid-afternoon clash with the Charlotte Checkers at 3 pm at the XL Center. LINES: Cullye-Brodzinski-Pajuniemi Gettinger-Elson-Carpenter Trivigno- Fritz-Jake Leschyshyn DiGiacinto-Henriksson- Rempe Jones-Hájek Emberson-Robertson Scanlin-Adam Clendening Garand SCRATCHES: Joe Lockwood (healthy) Cooper Zech (healthy) Wyatt Kalynuk (unavailable in transit) Anton Blidh (unavailable in transit) Ben Tardif (healthy) Patrick Khordorenko (season-ending shoulder surgery) C.J. Smith (hip area surgery done for the season) NOTES: Bridgeport's top goal scorers Simon Holmstrom and Otto Koivula were recalled by the big Islanders. They returned Arnaud Durandeau, a notorious Pack killer for the past three years. Winger Collin Adams was recalled from Worcester (ECHL). Calgary Wranglers (AHL) recalled ex-Pack defenseman Tyson Helgesen and ex-Sound Tiger Calder Brooks from Rapid City (ECHL). Goalie Jon Gillies (Salisbury School) goes from Tucson to Cleveland. Hamden’s Jonathan Quick was traded twice this week, first from LA to Columbus, and then Blue Jackets moved him the next day to the Vegas Goldne Knights. Quick (AOF), who won two Stanley Cups with Los Angeles has struggled this year. He was pulled in New York despite two of the three goals not being his fault, and his visible annoyance was shown by the 37-year-old exiting on TV. He flew back with the team at the end of a road trip to LA and then was told he was traded to Columbus. Nick Bonino (Farmington/AOF) was traded from the San Jose Sharks to Pittsburgh. Vladislav Namestnikov, the son of ex-Pack Evegeni “John” Namesnikov, now a Maple Leaf scout was traded from San Jose to Winnipeg. Ex-Pack Sammy Blais who was just traded to St. Louis. He signed a contract extension. Ex-Pack goalie J.F. Berube was recalled then sent back to Charlotte by Florida. Adam Erne, (North Branford) was called up from Grand Rapids by Detroit. Pete DiLiberatore (QU) was recently sent to Savannah (ECHL) by Henderson and was dealt by Vegas to Wilkes Barre/Scranton. Fellow former Bobcat Chase Priskie goes from Rochester to San Diego. Kevin O’Neil (UCONN/Yale) was cut loose by Colorado Eagles (AHL) released from his PTO, and heads back to South Carolina (ECHL). The team also had ex-Pack goalie Keith Kinkaid, who just traded and recalled by the Avalanche. Luke Evangelista was recalled from Milwaukee by parent Nashville. Ex-CT Whale Mike Pelech of the Atlanta Gladiators (ECHL) is officially now the second all-time leader in assists in ECHL history, recording three on the road in Savannah, GA, Thursday night. Former UCONN forward Jordan Timmons was dealt from the Reading Royals (ECHL) to the Kansas City Mavericks (ECHL). HARTFORD WOLF PACK HOME Read the full article

i'm doing alright, we just got lost a nail at work and dr. crane is a madman who just wanted us to?? continue work as usual? so i dipped. i do not have his level of pain tolerance. y'all's last song recommendations were really good; i ended up downloading every single one.
today i am recommending a bunch of shauna dean cokeland's music bc she is releasing a new song on spotify at midnight!
my recommendations are: this song saved my life by sdc for billy, moving in place (the song she is releasing this song tonight!) by sdc for eddie, electric blue by sdc for steve, reflections on the screen by superorganism for your jonathan, and "listen to your heart" "no." by cheekface for will. i hope he is doing alright over there.
dr. crane also wants poe to listen to truth is in the dirt by karen elson
Jesus christ that sounds painful what the fuck ausixiaks
We're glad y'all are okay though!! Those are all super great songs too, we don't fuck with TikTok but DAMN are there a lotta good musicians on there apparently omg
Our recs!:
Howard - Cake Bake Betty
Very,,, Haunting, I guess is the right word? We don't listen to her much at all but I Love the sounds and vibes of her music so far!! -Steve
The Mind Electric - Miracle Musical
ok now we're diving into the Important Songs™ JDJDIDKDKF
I suggest listening to this on YouTube cuz the first like 2 minutes is in reverse and it is. Cool but annoying to listen to. But anyways!! This song is. Super important to me! For some fucking reason! Cannot explain How Or Why but I. Love It. Especially this mashup that has like Every existing version of the song in it HFJFKF -Eddie
Tumbleweed - Puscifer
When we need to ground ourselves, this is one of our go-to songs,, It's also one of Those Songs™ in our library that has a lot of meaning/symbolism to a lot of people in our system, but for Billy and I specifically it's just... a good reminder to keep fuckin going tbh. -Groves (Billy's asleep rn lmao. She's fine just tired)
Good Morning, Captain - Slint
I don't,, know how this ended up on my playlist? I don't remember Listening to it before today actually lmao but looking through collective memories I can see Why it's on there, the ending lyrics are a punch to the gut honestly they're just so. Raw And Emotional. As are the rest of the lyrics, but those last few at the end of the song,,,, damn. -Jonathan
Daydreaming - Radiohead
I am doing just good I tthink! I'm getting used to. Being a person again and! talking! and! being! a person! :D /genuine
and ummm our Jonathan isn't letting me suggest the song I had in mind because it's "disturbing sounding" and "fucking unsettling" and he's like "what the fuck?? are you ok????" and i Am I just like songs that sound horrifying apparently! HDHDDHD
This is a good alternative though !! very very soft and quiet and feels like a soft blanket, when I make my playlist I'm putting this one on it ASAP (along with the song you recommended for me too!! I love it thank you!!) -Will
(His original choice was fucking. It's In My Blood by Coil, if you're curious. It's just,, 4 minutes of ambient noise and weird screeching with barely any lyrics it is So Goddamn Unsettling to like Everyone in the system, god fhfjdjd
Poe really likes the song Dr. Crane suggested for her too btw!! Her suggestion is Grace For Sale by Terrance Zdunich! -Jonathan)

"Telling the truth is a dangerous business, honest and popular don't go hand in hand. If you admit you can play the accordian, noone will hire you in a rock 'n roll band"
The most fun and funky music video I've seen in a very, very long time. Includes brilliant artists such as Chaim Tannenbaum, Suzzy Roche and her daughter Lucy Wainwright Roche, Lucy's father Loudon Wainwright and Ana Egg. All signed to the brilliant StorySound Records. Enjoy!

The veteran musicians' latest works tend to find them trying to converse with the modern scenes. A great question here would be – should they try to? Check Bowie who was never a big seller, yet I'm sure his influence dwarfed some who had larger numbers. However, he also kept being savvy in his choices with The Next Day showing that. Set aside the music there – the follow-up was much better, I agree – and think of the way he played with our expectations on his comeback. While the surface was familiar – some tunes belong on a Reality bonus disc –, the lyrics moved to the Walker mode of darkness. However, he didn't go fully there, because The Next Day had to serve as an invitation for us to join him again. Yes, he played us again as he always did.

The current Coronavirus Pandemic is, I’m sure you’ll agree, a generally wretched and for so many, a very tragic thing. I doubt many of us have, or will, escape the worst of this plague, either directly or indirectly, and I have every sympathy for those of you who have lost loved ones, or been ill.
However, humans being humans, distraction in the face of adversity is largely welcome, and never…

WOLF PACK END P-BRUINS WIN STREAK IN 5-2 VICTORY
Tumblr media Tumblr media
By: Shay Costa, Howlings PROVIDENCE, RI - Brett Berard's game-winning breakaway goal led the Hartford Wolf Pack to a 5-2 win over the Providence Bruins at the Amica Mutual Pavillion before 7,140 last Sunday. It was the Pack's first win in the last five games over the Bruins, which includes a shutout in their last encounter. However, this game was a different tale, according to Pack Head Coach Steve Smith. “We skated well tonight. We played a more aggressive style of hockey…and that put on their heels a little bit.” The game-winner followed the Bruins successfully killing winger Vincent Arseneau's interference penalty at 3:31 of the second period. A wide shot came off the Wolf Pack endboards that Berard recovered. The Pack's leading goal scorer then outskated the Bruins' defensemen and put a shot on Bussi's five-hole at 6:02. The Wolf Pack attacked early and were rewarded with an early lead. After the Bruins failed to clear the puck from their zone, Nick Broulliard took the puck away and found Karl Henriksson's stick right in front of Providence netminder Brandon Bussi. Henriksson's wrist shot 43 seconds into the contest lit the lamp on the game's first shot. “They had our number the last time we played, so we felt it was important that we got off to a good start,” Smith explained. The Wolf Pack maintained offensive pressure throughout the period. The Bruins did not get their first shot on Pack netminder Dylan Garand until six minutes in, and their first shot was also a goal. Bruins d-man Ian Mitchell's high wrist shot found its way through the traffic in front of Garand to find the top-shelf at 6:17. In the second frame, Pack forwards Bobby Trivigno and Cameron Hillis worked with defenseman Bryan Yoon on a well-executed tic-tact-toe play to set up a one-timer that was rocketed past Bussi at 1:58. It was Yoon’s first-ever AHL goal and made it 2-1. In the third period, Providence halved Hartford’s lead on a rush from winger Anthony Richard. The goal was assisted by defensemen Alec Regula and Dan Renouf, Richard stickhandled around both Nikolas Broulliard and Matthew Robertson, sinking the puck high behind Garand at 5:39. After killing off a Pack power play, and trying to get an equalizer, the Bruins pulled Bussi for an extra attacker with just over two and a half minutes remaining in regulation. It only took the Pack ten seconds to make them pay for that decision. A clearing attempt by former Bruin Anton Blidh became Hartford’s insurance goal as it rolled on its edge into the empty net. “I didn’t really try to go for the goal,” Blidh admitted after the game. “I was trying to tip it out. I saw going so I tried to tip it for him, but it was nice to see it go in.” In the final minutes, with the Providence goalie still pulled, Turner Elson would also pot an empty-netter, leaving the final score 5-2 in favor of the Wolf Pack. Blidh and Henriksson returned to the lineup after recovering from injuries. Smith attributed their impact on the game beyond their offensive contributions. “They have a strong pace through their game…They’re two really good penalty killers. is something we’ve lacked over the last two or three games… so they’ve certainly added to that.” Hartford’s next game will be a Bruins' rematch at the XL Center on Friday, March 8th at 7 PM. “We know that they’re going to surmount a charge. They’re going to play better, and we’re going to have to be ready for them.” LINES: Berard - Leschyshyn - Othmann Sykora - Henriksson - Blidh Trivigno - Hillis - Pitlick Jenkins - Korczak - Elson Scanlin - Hollowell Robertson - Broulliard Hillman - Yoon Garand Lindbom HARTFORD WOLF PACK HOWLINGS Read the full article
