Teeeni (1988) Nanyang Technological Institute (NTI), School of Electrical and Electronic Engineering (EEE), Singapore. "Prof Goh said the institute's School of Electrical and Electronic Engineering first started experimenting with micromouse building in 1987, using a commercially available kit from Japan. The result, named Rattus-Rodee, was not only bulky and clumsy, but extremely slow. Undaunted by the poor performance, NTI rounded up a group of lecturers with expertise ranging from microprocessor hardware, computer software, motor control, sensor technology to artificial intelligence. At least 80 students at different levels of study were recruited for the programme. What helped most, Prof Goh recalled, was the in-house programme which required second-year students to undergo 10 weeks of intensive practical training during their long vacation. This exposed them to different training modules which included industrial talks, factory visits, mechanical workshop and workstation education. Having been taught the basics, the students were challenged to build micromouses and compete for prizes in campus contests. This resulted in successive generations of micromouses, each of which was an improvement of the previous one. "Ruth", which came after Rattus-Rodee, was reduced in size and weight and travelled more accurately, but was still slow. Though sleek, the third-generation model "Teeeni" was still heavy and slow. But both performed creditably in the National Micromouse Contest last year. Ruth was in fourth position and Teeeni was placed second." – Mightiest Mouse, by Nancy Koh, The Straits Times, 6 November 1989.

Why is landing an Internship as a Computer Engineering/Computer Science Student so hard ?
Hey there, dear coders!
I apologize for my long absence—life caught me off guard with a lot of work and projects. Now that I finally have some time, I wanted to make a post to connect with you all. Thank you so much for 1,000 subscribers! I know maintaining a community requires consistent posting, and I feel like many of you might have forgotten about me. But I promise to make something big out of this. I've been thinking about starting a newsletter where you can receive weekly emails from me, discussing something I learned that week or anything that intrigued me and I felt like sharing.
Now, back to our question: Is it really hard to land an internship as a computer science student? The answer is yes, and as a computer engineering student myself, I can attest to this.
I've often wondered why it's so difficult. After some observations, I discovered that almost every computer science student's resume looks the same. The portfolios are nearly identical, lacking uniqueness. If you've studied at the same school as your friends, what would make a recruiter choose you over them?
This is where uniqueness and a sense of self come in. Your portfolio or website should reflect exactly who you are as a person and highlight your strengths.
The second crucial factor is dedication. I've had classmates who are extremely dedicated. They might not have any special skills, but they show immense interest in what they want to do. This drive is palpable, and recruiters can sense it too.
Sometimes, the resume isn't even the most important aspect. For big companies like Oracle, what you say and know during the interview and technical tests matters more. The resume is just the very first step.
So, what I've learned along the way can be summed up in two words: uniqueness and dedication.
Now how to Create the Perfect Resume to Land an Internship as a Student ?
1. Keep the design simple:
Avoid extra designs or too many colors. While uniqueness is important, recruiters generally do not favor overly designed resumes.
2. Structure your resume properly:
- The Resume Header
Contact Information:
Full name and title: List your first and last name. Use the title of the role you want instead of your current title.
Professional email address: Use a clean format like [email protected].
Phone number: Choose the number you check most frequently. Record a professional voicemail greeting if yours is too casual.
Address: List only your city and state. Let recruiters know if you're willing to relocate if applicable.
LinkedIn or other professional social media: Include your LinkedIn profile if it's active and relevant. List any portfolios or computer engineering-related sites.
- The Resume Summary
A paragraph where you describe yourself by answering these questions:
What is your professional style? (Use one or two descriptive words such as patient, critical thinker, consensus builder, excellent designer.)
What is your greatest engineering strength?
What will you add to this particular team?
What is your process for building and maintaining computer networks?
What are you proudest of in your career?
Example:
Motivated computer engineering student with a strong foundation in software development and solid analytical and problem-solving skills. Looking for an opportunity to enhance my skills in a challenging professional environment.
- The Employment History Section
Be specific about how you contributed to each position and the impact you made.
List the job title, organization name, dates of employment, and 3–6 bullet points showcasing your achievements.
Start each bullet point with a strong action verb like collaborated or designed.
Highlight significant achievements rather than just listing responsibilities.
If you have no experience, include a projects section. This will act as your experience. Highlight how you worked on each project and your passion for it.
- The Skills Section
Combine hard and soft skills. The skills section is often the first place recruiters look to ensure you have the key abilities they're seeking. Your entire resume should support the skills you list here.
- The Education and Certifications Section
List your education, including any relevant courses or special achievements during your degree. Also, mention any certifications you have, whether from freeCodeCamp, Google, Coursera, etc.
By following these tips, you can create a resume that stands out and showcases your unique strengths and dedication. Good luck with your internship search, and remember to stay true to yourself!

While Elon Musk’s so-called Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) has taken an axe to the federal workforce, the group itself is hiring.
The US DOGE Service, formerly the US Digital Service (USDS), has been interviewing potential candidates in recent weeks and months, even offering salaries on the highest end of the government pay scale. WIRED spoke with one person who made it through part of the DOGE interview process about what it was like.
According to the interviewee, there appear to be five phases to the DOGE hiring process, all executed quickly over a two- to three-week period. The first step in the process is a short 15-minute screening call with a recruiter, followed by a tech assessment that applicants have three days to complete. If applicants pass this screening, they’ll be asked to participate in two different technical interviews with DOGE staff. The fifth and final interview is a placement interview, where applicants would learn more about what kinds of work they would be assigned if hired.
“I think it’s fair to call it a dream job,” the interviewee, who asked not to be named in order to protect their privacy, says of the USDS in its pre-Trump administration form. The interviewee says they were “impressed” by a December 2023 interview with Mina Hsiang, then the administrator of the USDS, on The Verge’s Decoder podcast. She described how the department, since its creation in 2014 by former president Barack Obama, brought a small group of technologists together to improve tech services across the federal government. The interviewee had applied to work at USDS in previous years, and relistening to Hsiang’s interview “was the inspiration to apply again,” they say.
The interviewee knew several federal workers who had already been laid off as part of the DOGE’s incursion into federal agencies, and though it was “top of the top of mind,” they say they were still “excited about getting an interview.”
During the initial 15-minute call, the recruiter outlined some of the possible projects DOGE might undertake. These included, the interviewee says, “leveraging AI to improve medical services for veterans,” “streamlining federal aid applications from Americans who experience natural disasters like floods, hurricanes, and tornadoes,” and “improving the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and expanding Americans’ access to financial assistance for higher education.”
These details about possible projects were also laid out in an email the interviewee received before the phone call, inviting them to speak to the recruiter. The interviewee, who had applied to USDS multiple times both before and shortly after the new Trump administration, says they weren’t sure how or why their application had caught the eye of the new DOGE Service. “Maybe they were just looking for a coder,” they say.
Seeing USDS referred to as the “US DOGE Service,” the interviewee says, made them “want to barf” because “it represented the hollowing out of the organization I appreciated. I didn't know what to make of it, since I applied on a lark and hated what DOGE was doing. But I was ready to learn what they wanted and to explore what impact I could have.”
DOGE, according to the interviewee’s conversation with the recruiter, is looking to hire software engineers, software development and IT operations engineers, and project managers, all of which would be listed at GS-13 through 15 with salaries between $120,000 and $190,000. This salary range, according to a former USDS employee with knowledge of its hiring processes, is similar to what has been offered to USDS employees in previous years. WIRED previously reported that some members of DOGE with no government experience are drawing salaries well above $120,000, often making as much as or more than federal workers years into their government service. An unsigned agreement obtained by WIRED called for the Department of Labor to reimburse the USDS up to $1.3 million for using four DOGE affiliates over an 18-month period.
For the tech assessment portion of the application, the interviewee was asked to “create a simple website to analyze federal regulations to allow for more digestible and actionable insights to be made on potential deregulation efforts across the government” that are listed in the Code of Federal Regulations (eCFR). This exercise, as it turns out, may be particularly relevant to DOGE’s work. Last month, WIRED reported that DOGE affiliate Christopher Sweet has been put in charge of an initiative to use AI to crawl through the eCFR to identify regulations that could possibly be relaxed or rescinded. This work has already started at the Department of Housing and Urban Development.
The interviewee was not ultimately hired.
“I feel disappointed at the outcome, not unlike other job opportunities that don't proceed,” the interviewee says. “I also feel frustrated to be rejected by the organization that has destroyed the original USDS that I respected.”
But, they say, they’re not deterred by the rejection. “In reading about some of DOGE's people's public behavior, I remain confident in the quality of my skills, including as compared to what I see of theirs,” they say.
On DOGE’s website, a “Join DOGE” page states that it is “looking for world-class talent to work long hours identifying/eliminating waste, fraud, and abuse. These are full-time, salaried positions for software engineers, product managers, designers, lawyers, data scientists, business analysts, cybersecurity professionals, and other fields.” Previously, the US Digital Service application allowed applicants to choose from one of over 20 “areas of expertise” from a drop-down menu, ranging from artificial intelligence to content strategy to accessibility. The dropdown menu for the DOGE Service, on the “Join DOGE” site, lists only 11, including software engineering, cybersecurity, and business analysis. For example, accessibility is no longer listed as an area of expertise on the new DOGE hiring website. This narrowing of roles and expertise, the former USDS employee says, shows how the goals and priorities of the DOGE Service have drastically shifted. If a priority, for instance, is removing DEI language from the websites of different government agencies, certain roles just might no longer be necessary.
The beginnings of this change took place on President Donald Trump’s first day in office, when he signed an executive order renaming and repurposing the USDS as the US DOGE Service.
Under the executive order, there are technically two DOGEs: The initial USDS that has been repackaged into the US DOGE Service, which the executive order states will be granted “access to all unclassified agency records, software systems, and IT systems,” and the second DOGE, a temporary organization headed by the USDS administrator, which will run until July 4, 2026. This temporary organization allows DOGE to hire what are known as Special Government Employees (SGEs)—people who join the government for a period of up to 130 days in a year before returning to the private sector. Musk has been one such SGE.
Many of the people at Musk’s DOGE have included young, inexperienced engineers who have access to sensitive data across agencies, and conservative lawyers and Trump-world veterans who support the mission of cutting the federal workforce and using data to facilitate the administration’s agenda, particularly on immigration.
USDS, meanwhile, had more than 100 employees at the start of Trump’s second term. Many departed after the department’s transition into the DOGE service and the “firewall” built between Musk’s DOGE and the legacy USDS. Now, only a few dozen of the original employees remain.
This situation has made recruiting new and qualified talent to the permanent USDS more difficult, says a current USDS employee not authorized to speak to the press. The employee tells WIRED that USDS has hired a contractor to manage talent acquisition for the next generation of USDS employees.
The White House and a member of DOGE’s recruitment team did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

Blorbos at Conference!
Long time, no update, but this project is moving forward! This weekend, we're at a conference hosted by the Society for Cinema and Media Studies, or SCMS, presenting as part of a panel devoted to fan studies.
Why do panels matter?
First and foremost, it's a way to get research before a bunch of other researchers while it's still in progress. This helps catch poorly formed ideas, surface new good ideas, and share what's coming up with the fan studies research communities. It's also good for our humble PhD student CVs!
The Findings
Of course, the most interesting part is what, actually, we're presenting, AKA the findings! They're a work in progress, and the hardest part is the coding (talked about here). Therefore, I'm focusing on what I could do deep analysis on relatively quickly. (note: these images don't have image IDs because I summarize them below, but they're graphic representations of what I talk about in the text).
Tumblr media
The majority of survey respondents were young: about 39% were 18-22 and 32% were 23-27. A further 17% were 28-32, about 8% were 33-37, and then it got progressively smaller from there. Shoutout to all 3 respondents who were 63 and over! So glad you're here.
In terms of social media usage, most people used tumblr - unsurprising, since that's where we got our most traction for the survey. Discord was the second most likely. Part of a later analysis will be seeing if these terms are more likely to be used by different age groups or on different platforms, which is cool.
Tumblr media
Almost everyone surveyed had heard of these terms. Blorbo was the most-used and meow meow was least used, but very, very few respondents had not heard of these terms at all. This may be in part due to how we used them in our survey recruitment, since we did want to find people who knew what these terms were so that they could define them for us.
These numbers slope slightly down because something broke when we imported them into NVivo (a coding software) and frankly I don't understand it well even when it actually works, let alone when it breaks.
Tumblr media
Here's a little visual of the terms you suggested for characters. Unfortunately, NVivo crashes every time I try to exclude words from this word bubble (like "term"), so it's not as clear as I'd like it to be, but there are some interesting ones. Particularly interesting are the cluster of gendered terms; husbando and waifu, malewife, sexyman, boy, girl, etc. I want to do some analysis of this because it parallels some preliminary coding results. Y'all also really find your blorbos scrunkly/skrunkly/scrungly, huh?
I also want to figure out how to tell the visualizer that "glup" and "shitto" go together, because "shitto" all by its lonesome over there is cracking me up.
Qualitative Findings
Like I said, the coding is...so far from done. That's mostly due to some Ao3-author levels of life disruption from both of us. BUT! I can tentatively say a couple of things:
There are notably clear definitions about these terms. We weren't sure if there even really was a definition of "blorbo", but it clearly refers to a very specific kind of one-true-character. By contrast, comfort characters are associated with experiencing positive emotions, and meow meows are more likely to be evil or morally grey (but you love them though).
Unsurprisingly, your characters make you happy. We're distinguishing between general positive emotions, attachment, relatability, and one-true-character belovedness. Also sexiness, but that (surprisingly) hasn't come up that much.
There are a couple of ways in which darker themes come up. Villains remain beloved, but a recurring theme is also using tragedy or trauma in fiction as catharsis.
Finally, there's a lot of playful and tactile language. "Rotating him in my mind" really is that common.
Additionally, I'm really interested in the role of gender. Many of you referred to your blorbos/meow meows as your guys, with some of you clarifying that it was "my little guy (gender neutral)". Others noted that most characters you'd seen people describe as blorbos or meow meows were men/masc. This did not come up for comfort characters. Analysis of the characters you consider exemplars of each definition will help flesh out this analysis.
Still to Come
SO much. Who are these characters? Is a specific character exclusively a meow meow, or are they also a common comfort character? What types of positive emotion are associated with each type? Are these character types or do they speak to a fan's individual (or a fandom's communal) relationship with a character?
Additionally - we didn't ask about neurodivergence, but many of y'all referenced it. I'm looking forward to exploring that as well.
That's all for now! I present this live in about two hours. If you're somehow following this account AND at SCMS, please come by!

post-BRC ramble (+very personal headcannons) VERY long text ahead, I posted this elsewhere on masto-instance but decided it's OK to share here (straight up Escher rambling again ⚠️)
Still completely floored by this concept that Escher would have woken up from getting knocked in the cyberhead, escaped and saved Rietveld from getting brain-blasted by a whole crew of brainwashed Project Algo cops (after discovering Berlage's corpse, high chance he saw Berlage got killed with his own cyber-eyes but was completely outgunned) (thank you secondarythings)
Like, I already have a concept that Project Algo was a constantly growing and updated "software" so Faux (as Project Algo) got increasingly stronger and a lot more aware of his capabilities
But in the beginning he was completely lost so he had to manual control all the cops assigned to him in the beginning
And during this period of time, manually controlling Escher (test subject no.1) while Escher's subconscious throw hands at him because they're both fighting control over 1 body--I think Faux would slowly come to realise that's his old (amnesiac) pops and has to face The Horrors™
It's a 4-part story that I initially had, with a very lengthy Chapter 3 Investigation Phase. Dig out the truth behind everything and why he was selected as Project Algo in the first place, why Escher has to be the first test subject.
Thing is, at the very last moment at the very last chapter, I think Escher would slowly realise the same as well (through watching Faux relive the same final repetitive dream he has of the last memory he could recall), but the both of them won't say that to one another, won't make such a vulnerable guess if either of them are family.
And then he gets clonked on the head, wakes up, escapes (solidifying his opinion that the BRC are just harmless punks if they can't even tie an old cop down), returns to the precinct and watches his own son kill Chief Berlage from the other room
I don't think he'll let Irene go down like that, even if he's probably going to quit the force after all they did with him and the whole Project Algo thing. Sees her as the last good cop left (the last cop that was truly righteous and believed in doing what should be correctly done), and headcannon they had like, a mentor-student thing because they both 'joined' the force at the same time (a new cadet and a new cyberhead 'recruit') but cyberhead guy was mysteriously more skilled and calm about things
(another side-headcannon is that she's actually around the same age as Tryce, Bel and Teun as well. Came from one of those self-righteous cop families and bought into the whole 'protect the good citizens of New Amsterdam' schtick)
But definitely after the events of BRC I see him quitting the force for good, but NOT before one last action.
So! Focus back on Faux!
LDR honestly? He. Is. SCREWED. Big time.
Like, he has fucked up the whole damn New Amsterdam Police, killed, attempted murder, fucked up Mataan, property damage, buddy if there's any semblance of justice left in the city he is FUCKED
Not to mention New Amsterdam, although probably still the capital of The Netherlands, is not the whole Netherlands. You can bet your ass their new authoritarian government gonna send their high rankers on his ass to the goddamn Hague he is NOT a free man
Like, to even live at that point and have any semblance of peace is to rely on any last saving grace of kindness spared for him, and the only one I can only remotely think of is Felix because Tryce will slap him so hard his jaw will dislocate off his pretty face and Cyber will just chop his head off for yet another brain experiment
And even then if he's like, in the hospital, he's gonna be chained up bro, like if Rietveld isn't gonna slaughter his ass then the BRC gonna make sure he doesn't run anywhere and faces damn responsibility for his man-tantrum
And to Faux? Honestly? I don't think he even cares if he lives or dies. Hell, death would be good. He'll be wishing upon that electric chair, he won't bother to even feed himself if that's the case.
Maybe the exact reason why Rietveld won't trash his ass in the hospital, "there's no pure justice in this mess. Just the guilty and the damned."
Focus back on that old cop, and that's his last action.
Both Rietveld and Escher would have to locate where Felix's body was back when the BRC had their whole challenge in Upper Mataan, but she would be the one to deliver the body because, well, she has a massive jetpack--that's one. Another would be that the BRC sees that sniper like a dead man walking and it's on sight atp
But after all that mess, if he hears that the "huge monstrosity of wires" in Upper Mataan has been put into the local hospital, chained up waiting for judgement, he'll go over.
Show up to a despondent Faux and finally admit that he knew who he was, knew what he had done. Knew what was coming for him next.
Think, at that point, Faux would rather someone blow his brains out than to face the stomach-wrenching pain of...whatever slithering mess of complex anger and grief that is looking at him right now
And then he'll tell him straight, he'll repeat the exact same action as he did before his death, up until the both of them "died" for one last time--he'll let Teun go. Set his son free again.
Break the chains, make a mess, maybe start a small fire or sign a suicide note, Faux/Teun Vogelaar is dead to the world and his son walks out a free man once again. Rietveld would trust his word, she respects him after all.
And after that, he'll quit the force, the only thing he knew how to serve for all those years of his life. That's it.
After all the damage that they caused, that he caused on Teun, his "new life" should be rid of him. Of the both of them to one another, actually.
The moment the both of them leave the hospital room, they're both strangers.
There I think Faux would finally be free, but at that point he's neither Faux or Teun anymore, with no "roots" or obligations or anyone that would perceive or watch him. It's probably what he said he wanted, and it'll probably feel like the emptiest feeling ever. A total shadow.
Nothing, nobody. He'll have to hide in Lower Mataan with what funds given to him until the government stops looking for him.
I did saw a "Escher would be a P.I. post-BRC" take and I feel like that'll be like, the good-guy option you know, "The former cop has quit the force and now helps people like Nick Valentine from Fallout 4" that makes sense if he's a "I believe in justice" sort of thing (a very fun headcannon as well, come to think about it)
But was thinking about it and...hmm it doesn't feel so? 🤔 Like he's definitely "don't hurt the innocent" type of guy but that can be easily overwritten by a directive from a higher up to kill on sight.
Realistically as a human, he should have savings for retirement. Maybe. But I'd like to think that because he's treated as a cyberhead, he's essentially a new person with no previous ties or connections or account. There are probably cleaner ways for cyberheads to use the assets of the people that have passed before them, but I think in this case, he was forcefully made into a cyberhead (again, a conspiracy) with absolutely nothing so to obediently bind him to continued service.
Idealistically, he'll do something peaceful like open a bakery or work at an airsoft shop.
But at the same time I feel like he'll exhibit the same itchy behaviour from war vets or people who have served for a para-military organisation for their whole life (assuming that even before the police merger he was from the Royal Marechausse branch), that they cannot go back to quiet civilian life anymore.
There's no structure, no order, no need for discipline.
I think?? I THINK? Inclusive of that money issue, Escher will definitely first go for the idealist option and really cold turkey into the civilian life of stacking products in a supermarket.
And then his digital eyes will start twitching so badly he relapses and eventually becomes hitman for hire.
Might as well use that itchy trigger finger until arthritis sets in!
It makes sense too, that he'll be too comfortable with following orders or a directive and a set ritual of preparation to kill to ever let it go

Why Every Student Should Participate in a Hackathon
In today’s fast-paced digital world, the ability to solve problems creatively is just as important as technical skills. This is where a hackathon shines. Whether you're a developer, designer, or business-minded thinker, a hackathon gives you a unique platform to showcase your talent, build new skills, and contribute to innovative projects—often in just 48 hours.
If you're a student, participating in a hackathon might just be the smartest decision you can make for your personal and professional growth.
What is a Hackathon?
A hackathon is a collaborative event where teams work together intensively over a short period—usually one to three days—to build a project from scratch. While coding is a central part, modern hackathons welcome all kinds of talents: UI/UX designers, content creators, marketers, and product thinkers.
Hackathons often come with themes—like sustainability, mental health, AI, fintech, or social impact—which help guide participants to build projects around real-world challenges.
The Student Advantage: Why Join a Hackathon?
If you’re still in college or university, here are a few solid reasons to sign up for your first hackathon:
1. Learn by Doing
A hackathon is one of the best places to learn hands-on. You’ll get to apply classroom theories to real-world projects, often learning more in one weekend than in an entire semester. You’ll also pick up new tools, technologies, and frameworks on the go.
2. Build Your Resume and Portfolio
Participation in a hackathon instantly boosts your resume. Employers love to see initiative, teamwork, and problem-solving skills—all of which are demonstrated by joining a hackathon. If you create something impactful, it could even become a long-term project or startup idea.
3. Network with Industry Experts
Many hackathons feature mentors from top companies and industries. This is your chance to ask questions, get feedback, and even connect with potential recruiters. Some companies even hire interns or offer job interviews during or after the event.
4. Win Prizes and Scholarships
While not the main goal, many hackathons offer cash prizes, internships, tech gadgets, and free software licenses. Some also provide travel scholarships or job offers to outstanding teams.
5. Collaborate and Build Friendships
You’ll work closely with peers from different departments or even universities. Hackathons foster a spirit of teamwork and trust—and you may just walk away with lifelong friends or co-founders.
How to Prepare for Your First Hackathon
Pick your tools early: Whether it's Python, React, Figma, or Firebase, be comfortable with at least one or two tools.
Form a balanced team: Find people with different strengths—developers, designers, and storytellers.
Have a problem-first mindset: Instead of jumping into building, understand the user and the issue deeply.
Practice your pitch: Your idea might be amazing, but if you can’t explain it well in 2-3 minutes, judges may miss its value.
Stay open-minded: Hackathons are chaotic and dynamic. Be ready to learn, adapt, and pivot.
Choosing the Right Hackathon as a Student
There are thousands of hackathons held worldwide every year—on campuses, online, or hosted by organizations. Look for events that welcome beginners and provide mentorship. Sites like Devpost, MLH (Major League Hacking), HackerEarth, and local student communities are great places to start.
Also consider themed hackathons like:
Education hackathons for building student-focused tools
Green tech hackathons for solving climate problems
AI hackathons for machine learning enthusiasts
Conclusion
A hackathon is more than just an event—it’s an experience. It pushes your limits, grows your skills, and opens up new opportunities. As a student, you have nothing to lose and everything to gain. So step out of the classroom and into the hackathon arena. You might just discover your next passion, your dream job, or the idea that changes the world.

job opportunities in chennai for freshers - Career.contact
Job Opportunities in Chennai for Freshers
Finishing college and stepping into the job market is a big milestone. It’s exciting, confusing, and sometimes overwhelming. One of the first big decisions is choosing where to start your career. If you’re considering Chennai, you’re already heading in a smart direction.
Chennai is among India's most vibrant cities in terms of job prospects. It has a robust industry complemented by an emerging technology and services economy. For newcomers, that translates to choices — many of them — cutting across industries and job types.
Tumblr media
A Strong Tech and IT Presence
When one hears about jobs in Chennai, IT is the first thing that comes to mind. And rightly so. The city has some of the big IT parks, particularly along OMR and Guindy. Freshers with a computer science, information technology, or even electronics and communication background can get jobs in software development, testing, support, and so on.
Startups are also gaining momentum, so you can even venture into product-based firms that seek young minds with fresh ideas.
Core Engineering Jobs
If you belong to a mechanical, civil, or electrical background, Chennai has something concrete to offer. Dubbed the "Detroit of India," it's a hub for the automobile and manufacturing sector. Several plants, both local and multinational, have units in and around the city.
Freshers can apply for entry-level positions in design, production, maintenance, and quality control. These positions tend to provide hands-on experience, which can be a major advantage early in your career.
BPO and Customer Support Positions
Chennai is also well-represented in the BPO and customer service industries. These careers are available to graduates with backgrounds in a broad spectrum of schools — and to many, they're the bridge to the corporate world.
They get you used to hard work, verbal communication, and timely work — all essential no matter what career path you later end up in.
Finance, Admin & Operations
Commerce and business graduates will find many opportunities in Chennai’s finance and corporate services sector. Banks, consultancies, and backend offices of large firms are always on the lookout for fresh talent to fill roles in accounting, data processing, admin support, and more.
These positions can serve as the groundwork for building a career in finance, business analysis, or management over time.
Media, Content, and Digital Careers
The creative ecosystem in Chennai has been steadily developing over the past couple of years. Digital marketing agencies, content studios, YouTube channels, and design companies are always on the lookout for new content creators, social media managers, video editors, and graphic designers.
If you're a fresher with good creative skills, a good portfolio, or even just an active blog or Instagram account — you may already possess what it takes to begin.
Education and EdTech
With its high-learning environment, Chennai is also an ideal location to begin a career in teaching or education services. EdTech websites, schools, and training schools recruit freshers as tutors, content writers, coordinators, or counselors.
If you are interested in teaching or student services, this is an area worth pursuing — given the success of online learning.
Conclusion
Beginning a career is seldom easy, but the right city can ease the process. Chennai has plenty of job opportunities for freshers — whether you're an engineering graduate, a business school graduate, or a creative mind.
The city boasts a friendly work environment, a comparatively lower living cost than other metros, and a combination of old and new industries. Your initial job may not be ideal — and that's alright. What counts is to start, and learn as much as you can on your way up.
If you remain open, flexible, and willing to learn, Chennai can prove to be a wonderful place to establish the building blocks of a successful career.

As it turned out, there weren't many Hyuuga families in Metro Konoha including Neji's family of three, formed from the union of a self-made millionaire and the scion of the long-term mayor of Metro Konoha. As a result, the private investigator Sasuke had hired had managed to call back earlier than expected.
"She's not listed under any Hyuuga family here," said the PI, handing Sasuke the files.
The office reeked of cigarettes. Every so often, the door would open, making the bell ring, and a sheepdog would wander in. Sasuke had never hired a private investigator before—this was more up his brother's alley—which made him anxious, knowing that anyone he knew could easily walk into this office and pry into his business.
"Do you mind?" Sasuke gestured to the door.
The PI waved his hand indicating he was free to do so, and Sasuke quickly locked it.
When he returned to the report, Sasuke's mind raced as he scanned the PI's findings. A mix of frustration and curiosity gnawed at him. "What could this mean?"
"Hyuuga is not a common name around here. She must've hailed from somewhere else, another country perhaps—"
"Can you check immigration records?"
"Sure, but it'll cost extra."
Sasuke clicked his tongue in scorn. He'd rather spend it on software or equipment.
"Rich kid like you, why so stingy?" The PI laughed.
"Rich." Sasuke snorted. "Just my old folks."
"Sounds the same to me."
"Is that really the only possibility? That she's here on a visa? But if that's the case, why is her family background confidential? Don't you think there could be other reasons?"
"People can come up with all sorts of things. In one of my past cases, a woman discovered that the lady applying to be her son's babysitter was her husband's illegitimate daughter. At first, when we started digging, we found out she wasn't listed in any family registry. The wife had only gotten suspicious in the first place because the girl had a port wine stain on her forehead that looked just like her husband's. So, we sent in DNA samples. Turned out, she was right.
"Now, in this Hyuuga girl's case, she's studying at Sairiumu and renting an apartment at Hashirama Park for 500,000 ryo a year, all paid in cash. It could be that she got this far with missing documents because Dad—or whoever—could pull the necessary strings. Just not any unsavory gossip that could hurt their reputation. That sort of thing…"
Sasuke stood abruptly, his chair creaking. Goosebumps covered his arms. That must be it. Hinata Hyuuga was a hidden mistress's daughter. No wonder Neji seemed appalled.
"But these are just theories," the PI added, lighting another cigarette. "The truth could be a whole lot different once we try to find out."
Sasuke covered his nose. "I've heard enough."
In the wake of this conclusion, Sasuke felt it justified when the results of the qualifying exhibition came out with no mention of Hinata Hyuuga. Whispers circulated among the recruitment committee about how entry number sixty-seven could have fallen short of the top fifty despite its popularity during the exhibit. But that was all. No complaint has been filed by Hinata either.
It wasn't until Sasuke saw the two together that the intricacies of the truth about their situation truly hit him.
The school had already quieted then, with only a few stragglers lingering as the sun began to set, casting long shadows across the empty pathways. After returning some books to the library, Sasuke circled to the back of the building to take a shortcut to the studio when he heard a familiar voice—Neji's—talking to someone by the plaza with the antique bronze drinking fountain. Curiosity drew him closer. He peered from behind a cypress and realized that the other person had been Hinata.
"Didn't I tell you? There's no place for you here. Go back to Yukigakure—"
Hinata kept her head down, her eyes glued to the granite pavers, silent.
"—Or would you rather I tell the school head how you're actually psychologically ill? You think I can’t see through you? You're not here for school or the photography club. You're here because of Sasuke—leave him alone. Drink your meds and don't leave your room until you start thinking straight. He's not who you think he is, and you're not who you think you are."
Frustrated that Hinata hadn't responded, not with even as much as a glare, Neji spun away with an offended huff and strode off. When Hinata lifted her head, tears dripped down her cheeks, and just as silently as they fell, she tried to wipe them out of her eyes. But they only kept coming, the devastation in her war-torn expression not making a sound. The layers of grief that she tossed with a look to the sky budded only to die at her feet.
For some reason, Sasuke felt cemented to the grass and couldn't walk away pretending that he heard and saw nothing.
So, the day after, when it happened that their paths crossed, that their gazes met—when she made a slight bow and timidly carried on with her pace—Sasuke made a decision. With jaws set and hands balled tight, he called:
"Wait."
Hinata stopped.
"I liked your entry," he said.
Her mouth stayed half-open—it didn't immediately register, it seemed. Gradually, as it did, her eyes widened, her face lit aglow. Her unassuming reaction to just a few simple words caught him stunned and faltering. He glanced elsewhere, his ears burning, his heart pounding loudly.
"Don't stop taking pictures," he urged after clearing his throat, though what he wanted to say was: I think you have something special.
If only their start hadn't been that time at Hashirama's bridge and her stalking, perhaps he would've been interested in working with her.
When he arrived at his office, on his desk was a book that didn't belong to him nor had he borrowed a copy from the library: The Poetic Edda by Jeramy Dodds.
He searched the front and back covers and the edges for any identification to no avail. One of the pages had been dog-eared, and when he opened it, a wild chamomile flower fell off. Highlighted in yellow on the page was the passage:
Tumblr media
As though a switch had been turned on, the words transported him back to his research for the qualifying exhibition the previous year, bringing to the fore in vivid recall Longfellow's "Tegner's Drapa" and the bits he'd read off C.S. Lewis's Surprised by Joy; a memory that worked like his would store anything that caught his eye like clockwork, categorized and filed away until he'd found some use.
Line by line, the words connected, popping off; images formed like ant trails in his mind. Realization surged within him like lightning coursing down his veins, gathering into his trembling fists, fingers squeezed near breaking point. Having maxed out all charge storage capacity, he screamed muted air out, emptying his lungs.
He finally found the theme.

The Israeli spyware maker NSO Group has been on the US Department of Commerce “blacklist” since 2021 over its business of selling targeted hacking tools. But a WIRED investigation has found that the company now appears to be working to stage a comeback in Trump's America, hiring a lobbying firm with the ties to the administration to make its case.
As the White House continues its massive gutting of the United States federal government, remote and hybrid workers have been forced back to the office in a poorly coordinated effort that has left critical employees without necessary resources—even reliable Wi-Fi. And Elon Musk’s so-called Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) held a “hackathon” in Washington, DC, this week to work on developing a “mega API” that could act as a bridge between software systems for accessing and sharing IRS data more easily.
Meanwhile, new research this week indicates that misconfigured sexual fantasy-focused AI chatbots are leaking users' chats on the open internet—revealing explicit prompts and conversations that in some cases include descriptions of child sexual abuse.
And there's more. Each week, we round up the security and privacy news we didn’t cover in depth ourselves. Click the headlines to read the full stories, and stay safe out there.
In a secret December meeting between the US and China, Beijing officials claimed credit for a broad hacking campaign that has compromised US infrastructure and alarmed American officials, according to Wall Street Journal sources. Tensions between the two countries have escalated sharply in recent weeks, because of President Donald Trump's trade war.
In public and private meetings, Chinese officials are typically firm in their denials about any and all accusations of offensive hacking. This makes it all the more unusual that the Chinese delegation specifically confirmed that years of attacks on US water utilities, ports, and other targets are the result of the US's policy support of Taiwan. Security researchers refer to the collective activity as having been perpetrated by the actor “Volt Typhoon.”
Meanwhile, the National Counterintelligence and Security Center, along with the FBI and Pentagon’s counterintelligence service, issued an alert this week that China’s intelligence services have been working to recruit current and former US federal employees by posing as private organizations like consulting firms and think tanks to establish connections.
DHS Is Now Monitoring Immigrants’ Social Media for Antisemitism
US Citizenship and Immigration Services said on Wednesday that it is starting to monitor immigrants' social media activity for signs of antisemitic activity and “physical harassment of Jewish individuals.” The agency, which operates under the Department of Homeland Security, said that such behavior would be grounds for “denying immigration benefit requests.” The new policy applies to people applying for permanent residence in the US as well as students and other affiliates of “educational institutions linked to antisemitic activity.” The move comes as Immigration and Customs Enforcement has made controversial arrests of pro-Palestinian student activists, including Mahmoud Khalil of Columbia University and Rumeysa Ozturk of Tufts University, over alleged antisemitic activity. Their lawyers deny the allegations.
Trump Revokes Security Clearance, Orders Investigation of Ex-CISA Director
President Trump this week ordered a federal investigation into former US Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency director Chris Krebs. An executive order on Wednesday revoked Krebs’ security clearance and also directed the Department of Homeland Security and the US attorney general to conduct the review. Krebs was fired by Trump in November 2020 during his first term after Krebs publicly refuted Trump’s claims of election fraud during that year's presidential election. The executive order alleges that by debunking false claims about the election while in office, Krebs violated the First Amendment's prohibition on government interference in freedom of expression.
In addition to removing Krebs' clearance, the order also revokes the clearances of anyone who works at Krebs' current employer, the security firm SentinelOne. The company said this week in a statement that it “will actively cooperate in any review of security clearances held by any of our personnel” and emphasized that the order will not result in significant operational disruption, because the company only has a handful of employees with clearances.
NSA, Cyber Command Officials Cancel RSA Security Conference Appearances
NSA Cybersecurity Division Director Dave Luber and Cyber Command Executive Director Morgan Adamski will no longer speak at the prominent RSA security conference, scheduled to begin on April 28 in San Francisco. Both appeared at the conference last year. A source told Nextgov/FCW that the cancellations were the result of agency restrictions on nonessential travel. RSA typically features top US national security and cybersecurity officials alongside industry players and researchers. President Trump recently fired General Timothy Haugh, who led both the NSA and US Cyber Command.
