Magia Record sprite index and beta material
I’ve been making a personal catalogue of Magia Record’s various internal minutiae for a while now, and I’ve found enough interesting little details that I figured I could make a whole post out of them. So here they are!
Note: contains spoilers for the entirety of Arc 1 and Arc 2, as well as speculation about future content.
*Details about the game’s BG files and related material are contained in a separate post for length.

[Index of battle sprites / Live2D sprites]
Each set of character sprites has a 6-digit ID. The first 4 digits (listed here) correspond to the unique character, while the last 2 digits correspond to alternate costumes, NPC color palettes, or battle sprite variants.
1000s: Magia Record's main story cast (arc 1, then arc 2)
2000s: Madoka Magica OG cast
3000s: Magia Record's supporting cast
4000s: Crossover characters (both Madoka and other franchises)
5000s: ---
6000s: Boss enemies

-The members of Team Mikazuki Villa are listed in order of appearance, with the exception of Sana and Felicia, whose positions are swapped. This is also the order in which they show up in the Arc 1 OP.
-Nemu is listed separately from the other two Magius, possibly as an artifact of earlier story drafts where she was a separate third party. (eg. a handful of comments by Inu Curry in Magia Archive vol.1 & 2 mention that Iroha and Touka's Doppels were designed to be similar from the start, while Nemu's was revised to match theirs some time afterward)
(If the Arc 1 OP is anything to go by, maybe Mifuyu could’ve been a full-time Magius herself in that early draft?)
-Karin and Asuka are the only supporting cast members listed up here. Another artifact of early drafts? Or maybe just because they're also Aoki Ume designs?

-Seasonal variant units for a given character are listed as 11xx, 12xx, 13xx... etc., with xx being the last two digits of the character's regular ID.
-Unlike other characters’ alternate sprite sets, Holy Alina's Chapter 10 sprites are listed as if they’re an entirely separate variant unit. (Might have to do with her separate voice lines?)

2004 - Sayaka Miki
2005 - Mami Tomoe

-Unlike the Magia Record cast, the OG cast's seasonal variants are listed at 2x00, 2x01, 2x02... etc., with x being the last digit of their regular ID. The main MagiReco cast presumably uses a different numbering system because x quickly reaches double digits for them.

-Sakurako is oddly listed in the middle of the 3000s, despite being both a limited-time Fate Weave character and fairly important to Arc 1, and had the name "Kanon Aira" in her Live2D parameters between her debut in Chapter 8 and the Live2D update in 2021. This is likely because her design was repurposed from a scrapped character(!)-- according to her artist commentary in Magia Archive vol.2, her original design concept was "a former A.I. that became human", with the power icon on her neck explicitly being her Soul Gem.
→ (Interestingly enough, her seasonal unit is likewise listed as “Kanon Aira”, and hasn’t been updated yet. I imagine it was just a holdover for internal consistency’s sake, in that case?)
-Even back when she only existed on the North American server, Ashley's Live2D parameters similarly identified her as "Ashley Moran" in Japanese text. Combined with her position in the middle of the 3000s, this suggests that she was drawn up at the same stage in development as everyone else before eventually being assigned as the NA exclusive.

-Spinoff and crossover characters are listed at 40xx. The third digit groups the characters by their series of origin-- Oriko, Kazumi, Darc, Suzune, Monogatari, Nanoha, LycoReco-- and the fourth digit counts up for each specific character within a group. If the amount of characters in a group exceeds 9, as is the case with Isabeau, those additional characters go in 41xx under the same third digit.
-The Oriko trio are the only 4000-series characters who are always available in the Premium Fate Weave. Based on this, Oriko’s Doppel Challenge, and their lack of presence outside each of their personal stories, some speculate that they were planned to have a larger role in Arc 1′s storyline before being cut.

-With the exceptions of Teresa, Candy and Shitori Egumo, "main storyline" bosses are listed in order of appearance at 60xx, while "miscellaneous" ones are listed at 61xx. The first list goes straight from Arc 1's Rumors to Arc 2's Feelings, with no gap in between. The second list also includes witches who first appeared in the anime.
-Teresa and Candy's positions are most likely mid-development holdovers. According to Inu Curry, Teresa was originally meant for the prologue before being replaced with Patricia. Pre-release material (see sister post) indicates that Candy was originally the witch chased by Iroha and Yachiyo in Chapter 1, before being swapped out with Zenobia.
-I guess Shitori Egumo gets a special position at the start of the 6100s because she's a final boss?
-The empty slots surrounding 10^-43 correspond to different variants of her minions in the 72xx section.
-The 6300s and 7300s don't have anything currently assigned to them.

-Witches hailing from the OG series are listed at 640x, in (roughly?) chronological order of in-game debut.
6500 - Matasaburo (battle sprites) / Kamihama Saint (Live2D)
6501 - Kamihama Saint (battle sprites)
6502 - Giant Iroha-chan
-And then 650x is just kind of a catch-all, apparently.
-Matasaburo is the only "reskinned" boss to have a completely different ID from its base version. All other bosses and minions have their seasonal variants listed at the same 4 initial digits, and are differentiated by only the last 2.

-Minions are listed at 70xx and 71xx, in the same order as their parent bosses. The gaps at 7008, 7110 and 7111 are for the minion-less Flower Speaker, Etteilla, and Made in 168, respectively.
-Shitori Egumo only has one minion, so the empty slot after said minion is filled by the letter-carrying Kirico Keepers. (Maybe this is because they regularly showed up in Main Story missions, whereas their Daily Labyrinth siblings didn’t until the end of Arc 2?)

[Voice lines]
Every playable character has Doppel summoning lines, Awakening lines from 3 to 5 stars, and so on, regardless of how high or low their initial rarity is. Since at least a few characters’ rarities were up in the air during development (eg. Himika), it makes sense that they’d record enough voice lines for every possibility in advance.
Additionally, here’s a couple things I found particularly interesting:
-Each character has one more login line after their Max AP and BP lines. Much like how Max AP lines generally mention a witch nearby and Max BP mentions Endless Mirrors, this third line tends to mention a large conflict between nearby Magical Girls. While I haven’t checked the most recent characters and costumes, these lines were still included for every character well into the endgame of Arc 2, so the game element they were recorded for was probably still being considered at that point. (Some kind of PvP raid?)
-Each character has one more unused Awakening line after their 5-star one, plus an extra victory line/MGS menu line that would presumably be unlocked alongside it. I wasn’t sure what this was at first-- like, maybe it could also be for maxing out the skill tree?-- but as it turns out (thanks to firankamipinska for telling me about this!!), it’s explicitly a 6-star Awakening line. As in, MagiRepo Iroha-chan and Rena-chan’s lines literally say “omg I’m a 6-star now! :U” in just as many words.
→ ...If that ever happens, I’m going to have to revise all my spreadsheets... ( ;∀; )
(Also, I haven’t checked every voice line from every character, so if there’s any other stuff I missed, feel free to let me know!)

[Beta creature designs]
Most of f4samurai's initial enemy concepts haven't been published, but a few have seen the light of day here and there. I’ve compiled them in an imgur album (since I’d have to shrink them to embed directly in the post, orz).
(also the transparencies might be kind of messed up on mobile?? double orz)
Teresa - Was present on Arc 2's website before being replaced with her canon design. Can still be viewed via the Wayback Machine and on certain sub-pages. (The part in her Archive description about “originally being the witch of pendulum clocks” is a literal reference to this initial design.)
Candy - From Arc 2's website (now replaced). A color version was repurposed as a "generic unknown witch" stand-in during Iroha's text conversation with Ai in Chapter 5. (Inu Curry’s comment in Magia Archive volume 1: “She was definitely cuter in a more ordinary way before we revised her design. Sorry about that.”)
Huygens(?) - From Arc 2's website (replaced, though still present on sub-pages and the mobile site).
Joseph - From early gameplay footage (see sister post). Not sure whether this is from before or after Inu Curry's revisions. Different head object; elements are differentiated by head and cape color.
Kirico Keepers (I) - From Arc 2's website (now replaced).
Kirico Keepers (II) - From Arc 2's website (now replaced).
Kirico Keepers (IV) - From Arc 2's website (replaced, though still present on sub-pages and the mobile site).
Oscar - From Arc 2's website, as well as early gameplay footage. Not sure whether this is from before or after Inu Curry's revisions. Elements are differentiated purely by color, rather than different head markings and bowties.
