Support the Inclusive Democracy Act of 2023 (H.R.6643 / S. 3423)
An open letter to the U.S. Congress
576 so far! Help us get to 1,000 signers!
Despite his 34 felony convictions, Donald Trump has the wealth, connections, and privilege to ensure he doesn’t have to worry about his eligibility to vote this fall. But the millions of ordinary Americans currently disenfranchised by felony convictions aren’t so lucky. That's why, as your constituent, I urge you to co-sponsor and support the Inclusive Democracy Act of 2023 (H.R.6643 / S. 3423) to guarantee voting rights to ALL Americans. Right now, Jim Crow-style felony disenfranchisement laws deny voting rights to over 4.4 million Americans. The Inclusive Democracy Act of 2023 comprises a series of transformative measures that would end the broken system of felony disenfranchisement and empower marginalized communities: - Guaranteeing the right to vote in federal elections to all Americans who have criminal convictions. - Eliminating state-level barriers that prevent individuals with criminal convictions, whether they are incarcerated or have been released, from exercising their right to vote in federal elections. - Ensuring citizens in carceral settings have access to information about elections and candidates 29 Members of Congress have signed on as sponsors or co-sponsors of the Inclusive Democracy Act of 2023. If you haven’t already, please join your colleagues and add your name to that list. And if you’re already a co-sponsor – thank you, and please do everything you can to help pass this groundbreaking legislation into law.

I haven't seen this on Tumblr yet. Cory Booker has held the floor of the Senate for a 16 hour and counting filibuster and it's all streaming on YT. Currently almost 30k people are watching. You can become one of them without even moving from your screen. In the category of "the absolute least you can do" to support a democrat actually doing something... maybe give it a watch.

"don't make it political!" .... what proportion of death and suffering must occur before politics are involved. if this isn't political, what is even the point of any politics, ever. of democracy. the words are "by the people for the people." if i am going to be left alone by my elected representatives to "figure it out" - to undergo damage, hardship, fear. what the fuck did i elect them for. what was their job. the entire point is that they handle this shit. this is why we were supposed to be electing leaders.
poverty is political. misogyny is political. gun control is political. climate change is political. how much aid a community gets is political. what the fuck are you talking about. it's been political this whole fucking time.

Tumblr is so doomed because the average liberal American who posts about gay pride and punching nazis is still like "Umm you should respect our troops they work hard to keep us safe from all the evil people in the world by slaughtering everyone they feel like. And they're all poor and were basically forced into this and have mental health issue so you can't hate them for killing your family they were just following orders #respectourtroops"
Your country is committing genocide and is the current greatest force for evil in the world and yet not even putting it in idk fucking star wars metaphors where you're the Empire and the ones opposing you are the rebels will make you stop handwringing about "Sure the entire western political and media classes have made it clear they do not see Muslims as humans and will constantly regurgiate propaganda designed to normalise genocide, but if you protest too loudly about Israel killing your family some Zionists might feel bad because they want to be proud of Israel and you're making that hard on them by bringing up the atrocities and apartheid and genocide and ethnic cleansing. And we have to care about that too!"
You've had years on this website to get more aware of the actual issues in the world and develop a code of ethics and all you've learned is how to come up with new bullshit ways to justify your complacency in both sidesing a genocide. Either admit you're siding with the fascists as long as they're not rude about it like Trump and have the right optics, or grow the fuck up.

I know I said I'd be inactive but I gotta rant like I'm at a point of pure rage and I'm not all the way sober rn. As a black woman? I feel betrayed. Like I have no clue why, but for some reason I had faith in y'all to come through and recognize that while Kamala isn't perfect by any means that a Trump presidency would likely mean wraps for all of us, but no. Every. Single. Group managed to fuck up aside from black men and women in this election.
What happens when the internet becomes so overruled with censorship that we can no longer share information about the causes we care about? The police are already over militarized and the oompa loompa that's been put up in office is fully ready to grant them immunity, meaning they would essentially be able to do whatever the fuck they want to us without consequence.
I mean let's be fucking real that immunity is going to affect my community at a disproportionate rate just in case you guys already forgot what those pigs like to do to us. And my community is also that main group of people that is out on the street riding for everybody when there's an issue so what's gonna happen now? Hm?
Black women have been saying for a good while that we should vote for the candidate who will let us keep doing the work we're trying to do. The one that we would be safe protesting and organizing under so that we can make change both in and outside of our community, for example, actually putting third-party candidates in STATE GOVERNMENTS so that when actual viable third parties run, they'll have some chance in the presidential election. Y'know because the Electoral votes and support from state governments are really what matters.
And I say ACTUAL viable third-party candidates because, let's be real once again, half the people who voted for Jill Stein didn't do research on her like they should have. That white lady has been a grifter this isn't news.
It's like...watching people just cling to the idea that some big revolution is going to start within the next year because of this is exhausting, especially when the vast majority of American citizens had not a fucking clue about Palestine, Sudan, or Congo until 2023. Unfortunately for us, this shit takes time and actual irl community building. These election results have only made what would have been difficult nearly impossible because people either want to stand on some moral high ground or for 'tax cuts' that they aren't eligible for because half of you bitches are poor just like the rest of us.
I'm fucking exhausted. My ancestors survived slavery, Jim Crow, red lining - we're still surviving and fighting for justice for victims of police brutality and I am so. Fucking. Tired of surviving shit because y'all can't think critically for two fucking seconds. It's like doing a group project but everyone else has a few pebbles in their skulls knocking around in there instead of brains.

Ventus didn’t even break top 10 in regular pat’s poll which I think really made it hit how I’m not getting the same thing out of this series as most others (I mean, obviously, look at everything I’ve ever made, but still). you’re not intrigued by the guilt of someone who found themselves in a position they’d always wanted… at the expense of someone else? the ramifications of those desires being carried out in the most violent way possible by something that mostly isn't you, but partially is? and what happens to a person when that darkness is forcibly removed, and the consequences of layers and layers of repressed memories? you gave Goofy 120 more votes than him???

Chappell Roan saying she doesn't have time to educate herself on politics is big LOL. People work full time, raise kids, do their own housework and still find time. But celebrity who gets her nails done "for exposure" does not?
Let's be honest, Chappell is chronically online. She argues with regular people all the time about various matters. But does not encounter any politics to educate herself?
When Taylor motherf-ing Swift, former favorite of the South, supports Kamala harder than Chappell Roan - female lesbian drag queen - does, it does start to seem like closeted conservatism.
Because LGBTQA community does not have the priviledge to be uninformed about politics. Because drag community is directly threatened by conservative (like Roan's uncle's) politics. Because trans people's existence depended on Kamala winning. Now Trump is actively going after them and Chappel is still "too busy to be informed"???
I just know her fans will go after me explaining some supposed deeper meanings that apparently contradict her own words but fuck it. I take it at face value. I take what she says directly. And as a bisexual woman I did not see a single ounce of political support from her.
Her not being political yet continuing to queerbait is a priviledge no regular queer person or drag queen has. So she can either take a firm, OPEN political stance for the community she is supposedly a member of, or admit she's just another republican with "rule for thee but not for me" mentality.

the left’s obsession with moral perfection is one of the reasons why the right has been able to rise everywhere during the past decade or so
#if someone isn’t 100% morally perfect and devoid of flaws they say whatever they’re doing is not enough#no matter how much a person in power does to make the worls a better place a lot of leftists will twist themselves to find issues in that#person and then say that whatever they’re doing is not enough and then demand to have a Perfect Leader (who does not exist)#people are not black and white no one is ever going to be perfect and let alone anyone who works within institutions cause to make waves in#those environments u have to be willing to compromise urself to some extent#and i always support questioning and criticizing people in power but when the other side is pretty much a cult who would vote for a squirre#if it came from the right party u have to stop and question whether that criticism is fair and reasonable or if ur just lost in a search fo#a perfection that does not exist#anw im bewildered at how some people are like ‘ur not allowed to call the pope progressive bcs he wasn’t perfect’ like no one said he was ?#he absolutely said some backwards stuff bcs he was the POPE of the CATHOLIC CHURCH like im sorry but fork found in the kitchen 😭#but he also said several good things and helped steer the church down the right path and what else could we want ?#and this doesn’t just go for people in power like it’s also true for celebrities and regular people cause whenever someone turns out to not#be 100% perfect and morally righteous people on the left are always quick to write them off#and then they wonder why young people are dangerously leaning towards the right nowadays#boomerang effect much ?
