Wait what's that? Oh that's right, I'm also a Ghost blog!
My Ghoul headcanons! With a few I've picked up from other posts. Also, spot the Avatar (James Cameron) inspired hcs. Basic hcs
Ghouls are pack creatures. They love being together, whether it's laying around together in a Ghoul Pile, playing games, or just doing tasks around the ministry.
Packs seem like giant polycules to outsiders, but they're much more complicated than that.
The Ghouls love teasing the Siblings of Sin.
They're extremely loyal to their Papa.
When on tour, they will wear enchanted amulets that shift their appearance to appear human. This has been named "glamour".
Sometimes packs will sleep in "piles". This is usually to keep bonds strong or simply for comfort.
Ghouls mate for life, partners basically bond their life forces together.
Ghouls can mate and bond with more than one individual. This can include other ghouls and humans. Biology hcs
All Ghouls have varying shades of grey skin and spaded tails (although Water Ghouls normally have fins on their tails). They also have claws on both their hands and feet, toe pads, horns, rough forked tongues, and sharp teeth.
Their tails and ears are very expressive.
Their tails are prehensile.
Water Ghouls have "ripple" or "water like" markings, usually a shade of grey darker than their skin. They also have webbed hands and feet, finned ears, and gills.
Ghouls have a superb sense of smell, sight, and hearing. Each Ghoul has their own specific scent, that all other Ghouls can smell and recognise them by. They will also memorise smells from their favourite humans (this can include human mates).
Packmates are connected to each other via telepathy. They can tap into each other's emotions, and can talk to each other through this strong connection.
Their eyes glow in the dark. They usually have a slight glow normally, but at night they're pretty bright.
Each Ghoul can tap into the magic connected to their element, or elements.
All Ghouls have a thin layer of fur on their chest, back, biceps, and down their backs to their tail.
They all go through a type of cycle, no matter their gender.
During the colder months, the thin layer of fur they have will grow thicker. It's very soft and fluffy, but dense. Although Quintessence and Air Ghouls have a thicker coat of fur all year long. Air Ghouls have the softest fur, almost cloud like in a way. While Quintessence Ghouls have coarse, stiff fur. Ghoul Scents (Prequelle and Impera Ghouls, including my OC)
Dewdrop: Wood smoke
Aether: A soft, pleasant incense. One that doesn't tickle your nose or cause you to cough
Rain: Petrichor
Swiss: Crushed rosemary
Mountain: He smells like a greenhouse: That delicous wet warmth smell
Glacier (my OC): A warm, windy day with a hint of orange
Cirrus: Ozone
Cumulus: A cold morning wind
Sunshine: Eucalyptus
Aurora: A sea breeze
Phantom: Slightly like sweet beeswax
Teeth hcs (featuring art by me)
Water Ghouls have backwards facing serrations on their fangs, making it extremely difficult for prey to escape. This is also why they don't tend to bite their partners or pack mates.
Tumblr media
Earth Ghoul teeth are the most similar to human teeth, the main difference being their overall strength and much longer fangs.
Tumblr media
Fire Ghoul teeth have long fangs with sharp teeth on either side of them.
Tumblr media
Air Ghoul teeth have a lupine appearance, with sharp incisors and sharp first molars.
Tumblr media
Quintessence Ghouls have very sharp, strong teeth that have a sort of "classic monter" look.
Tumblr media
Multi Ghoul teeth are a mix of the elements they are connected to (symbols are a mix of all their elemental symbols).
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
----------- So this is my Ghoul hc master post! I'll most likely create a post about my individual Ghoul headcanons at some point. I'll also be talking about my GhostxTF2 crossover at some point!

Swiss, holding his son: "Remind me again why you named him Baja Blast?" Crescent: "Well, originally, I was going to name him Cheddar, 'cause you're Swiss and I was thinkin' since I'm named after the moon, and there was this joke I had about moon cheese, but I forgot it..." -sniffs- "And then I wound up eating Taco Bell as my first meal in the hospital after all was said and done and I held my drink up next to him for a size comparison-" Swiss, looking at his son, then at Crescent: "For a size comparison?" Crescent, nodding: "Exactly." -boops Baja Blast's nose- "The color was a near perfect match." Swiss: "...Did you put that on the birth certificate?" Crescent: "Heck no!" -whispering- "...Named him Simon." Swiss: "...Simon." -hums- "Swiss would have been-" Crescent, hand on his shoulder: "I would have named him Baja Blast for real before I named him Swiss Junior..." Swiss: "What about Lichtenstein?" Crescent: "...Is that a freaking geography joke-" BB: -wondering how he ended up with these two as his parents-

➢  A new ghoul is summoned, they're small and unsure of who they want to be. The ghouls and ghoulettes help them figure it out while bringing them into their loving arms and showing them that no matter what path they choose, they will be loved.
➢ 𝖕𝖆𝖎𝖗𝖎𝖓𝖌: poly!nameless ghouls/ghoulettes x OC (Ghoulie)
➢ 𝖌𝖊𝖓𝖗𝖊: fluff, smut (with a sprinkle of angst sorry) [series]
➢ 𝖜𝖈: 1.1k
➢ 𝖆/𝖓:
➢⚠️: nothing in this chapter, besides swearing and vague descriptions of hell??
Tumblr media
𝕮𝖍𝖆𝖕𝖙𝖊𝖗 1 - 𝕿𝖍𝖊 𝖘𝖚𝖒𝖒𝖔𝖓𝖎𝖓𝖌
At first there's just pure heat. Nothing coherent, only instincts and pure fucking heat. But that's nothing new for a ghoul in Hell - what comes next, however, is.
Light flashes before the chosen ghoul’s unprepared eyes, followed by a rushing wind all around like her own personal tornado. And in a second there’s cool marble beneath her back and the light has faded to complete, all-encompassing darkness.
Whispers and soft toned speech sounds around the barely conscious ghoul once the horrendous ringing disappears. The poor creature is so drained but she is unable to so much as open her eyes let alone identify how many entities crowd the room or who (what) they are exactly.
And so she has little choice but to lay there and wait for her strength to return or for sleep to claim her mercifully.
It does so eventually, once the onlookers reach an agreement and she's raised into warm, sturdy arms. Resisting sleep after that would be no more than a fool's errand, so she allows it to take her with no complaints as she feels it start to tug at her exhausted– well everything.
Aether feels the vulnerable ghoul relax even further into his arms as he carries them to his room. He hopes his presence might ease their reaction to the new environment.
He still remembers parts of what Hell was like, despite how long it's been since he was summoned. It's hellish to say the least. Unbearably hot and filled with ghouls and wandering human souls. The first of which are everything but gentle or loving or much of anything really. They are no more than feral, scared little creatures, doing their utmost to survive.
There are no rules for ghouls in Hell, just instincts and pure fucking heat.
Compared to all that, the abbey must be the closest thing to Heaven a ghoul will ever get to experience. Despite this, there is no guarantee that the new ghoul will take well to this place, Satan knows Dew was an absolute handful when he was summoned.
Aether is careful with them, gently laying their naked body down on his bed but not yet covering them. The ghoul’s temperature is still far too high and clothes can be extremely irritating, if not painful, to one who’s not used to them.
After confirming that the nameless ghoul won’t be waking up any time soon, Aether gathers a large, cool glass of water and the biggest, softest shirt in his room. Sure, it’ll probably still feel somewhat uncomfortable but he’d rather avoid giving anyone (Swiss) ideas about playing with the new ghoul.
Such considerations inevitably have him thinking about it too as he looks over their barely twitching body. It’s not much different from what is customary of a ghoul to look like. The same pointy ears, same grayish, discolored look to their skin and a dark spaded tail.
But they’re just so tiny. Smaller than Dew! Aether takes a deep breath to will away any and all feelings stirring within his chest because of this information. Not the time.
He already feels like kind of a pervert for staring-- no, observing the newcomer so closely (even if he reasons to himself that he’s just checking for injuries).
Busying his mind with further observation, he finds that this ghoul lacks colored lines across their body which would indicate their element, and that one of their (once again, very small) horns is badly chipped. His heart tugs at the sight, he knows how badly that hurts.
Physically shaking away all previous thoughts of any kind, Aether, slowly, lightly dresses the ghoul in his shirt, before realizing that they’re out so cold only a bomb could wake them. And even then he can’t be sure they would.
Large hand gently resting on the ghoul’s skin, Aether finds its temperature adequate and pulls the covers up, taking mental stock of what he needs to tell the others - who will undoubtedly swarm him with questions that he will probably not be able to answer.
The ghoul is sleeping and with no apparent nightmares, which while unusual for recently summoned ghouls fresh off the fiery pits of Hell itself, is a huge relief. Their horn no longer has a point but other than that they are unscathed, which is also odd for such a lawless, merciless place. He is unable to establish a mental link so he does not know their name or how they’d like to be referred to as. And lastly, he has no clue what their element is.
He’s somewhat disappointed but not knowing much beats having to calm down a bloodlusty, feral ghoul.
Noticing that a strand of long black hair has fallen over their now twitching nose, Aether brushes it out of the way, feeling the heat of their face against his skin and catching himself staring again.
The lights are turned off and the door is closed as softly as possible before Aether loses himself to the point of having the ghoul wake up to him staring at them… that probably would not go well.
He gets no peace, however, as he’s immediately bombarded by the rest of his pack. Bombarded is a strong word for it; they are simply staring him down not so patiently and waiting for him to say something, anything.
“They’re sleeping fine, out like a rock. I didn’t get much else besides that.” He says honestly, watching as the most excited ghouls deflate in disappointment. It’s been awhile, something like many decades, since Sunshine was summoned so Aether doesn’t really blame them for forgetting how the new ghouls tend to be. The most they usually get is a name exhaled just before they pass out.
Swiss, Sunshine, Cumulus and Dew disperse, sitting heavily in various places around the common room. They’ll get over it pretty soon, Aether’s sure of it.
He sits next to Mountain and Rain on the couch with a sigh, “Any injuries we should worry about?” asks the earth ghoul while running his fingers through the water ghoul’s wavy hair.
“A chipped horn and nothing else, weirdly enough.” Mountain nods in response. None of them remembers much of the last summoning, except for the many burns and various injuries littering the newcomer's body.
"When do you think they'll be up?" Rain follows up, faking mild disinterest even though Aether caught his wide gaze the moment he stepped out of his room.
"I really wish I knew, Rainy. I really do." He tells the water ghoul honestly, watching as he nods in understanding.
Nothing else to do but wait.

Chapter I:ℜ𝔞𝔦𝔫𝔶 𝔇𝔞𝔶
Sodo/Dewdrop x fem!reader
Summary: Copia summons a new nameless ghoul
Word Count: 1977
Note: bad english, i'm new to this whole ghost thing, correct me if i'm wrong on anything, I will use a name for the protagonist for more practicality.
Chapter II...→
Tumblr media
The place was devoured by darkness, thunder rumbled outside the abbey like cries from heaven in response to profane acts, the wind hit the stained glass windows and lightning illuminated them with a flash of light, stained glass windows that reflected images of Baphomet and other demons. . Regarding Cardinal Copia, his face seemed extremely serious, something unusual for him but the situation warranted it. In each corner of a pentagram were each Ghoul and Ghoulette, the tools of the ritual. It would be an important night, a gift for the group, a refreshing element for the world.
Copia looked up at the sky, looking behind the glass dome above their heads at the moon obscuring the sun, the time had come, he walked down the stairs towards the group, with a light touch to the ground and the gunpowder ignited, burning powerful and bright, until completing the figure of a pentagram connecting with each Ghoul. The group placed their instruments in front of them, giving each other a supportive look.
Montain set the rhythm with the drums, Cumulus took the keyboard with Cirrus, Swiss and Aurora started the singing, Phantom activated his rhythm guitar, Rain shone with his bass and Sodo showed off his guitar. The instrumental flooded the chapel, the melody reverberated in every foundation and made the place shake. The ritual had a single motive, a single need, each Ghoul gave his best, letting some of his essence flow over the fire, calling one of his own, inviting whatever responded on the other side to come out of the darkness and join them.
"Belial, Behemoth, Beelzebub" Cardinal Copia sang, calling to the great leaders, asking for a demon from among his legions "Asmodeus, Satanas, Lucifer"
The place was filled with abysmal and intelligible murmurs, beings from the other side of the pentagram observing from the shadows without daring to cross the threshold. Copia looked proud and excited like a child to feel so many presences present with him, all interested in her vocation. Lightning fell around the Ministry with more force than before, attracted by the power, Swiss and Aurora began their prayers, in a language that only the creatures of the abyss could understand.
A murmur rose from everyone, a shiver ran through the body of all the Ghouls, something had answered the call and had crossed.
Thick black smoke emerged from the gunpowder and condensed into a humanoid figure with no fixed features other than shining fangs. He made small jumps inside the pentagram from one side to the other, looking (if you can put it that way) at each of the ghouls, analyzing them with amusement.
He danced with small childish leaps from one to another, from air to earth, from earth to quintessence, from quintessence to water. She tried to get closer to Sodo, the fire demon. He showed her fangs and the small cloud of smoke walked away scared, it was clear that she didn't want another Fire Ghoul and honestly one was more than enough. She snuck between Montain's drum set cymbals, breaking her personal space several times to check her height in amazement, the ghoul couldn't help but smile nervously.
Cirrus and Cumulus greeted the entity excitedly, letting out small laughs to get its attention. The figure floated towards them and smiled back, playing with the cloaks on their shoulders. She briefly made eye contact with Rain, but out of shyness it wasn't long before the ghoul looked away from her. The specter laughed softly and danced around Phantom a little, plucking the strings of his acoustic guitar with his ethereal hand. Swiss and Aurora laughed at the scene, enjoying seeing how the humanoid being seemed delighted with everyone present, both demons rubbing shoulders in complicity.
Cardinal Copia was excited, this was his first ritual to summon Ghouls from hell, although he somewhat regretted Sodo's bitter attitude, he counted on the others and especially the Ghoulettes to give a good welcome.
The figure took one more turn and his laughter echoed like a child. He returned to the center of the pentagram, looking at the eclipse behind the dome, and raised his hands to the sky, as if he could touch the moon. One after another drops of cold rain began to fall quickly, until they almost became a sea on the ministry, the figure smiled and turned towards Aurora, the latter tensed immediately and one shiver after another crossed her back. The air began to get cold and become salty, capable of hurting the nose when inhaling, everyone could feel it, even demons like Sodo so carried away in their element felt cold, the type that you can only find if you get lost in space or in the last circle of the hell.
Aurora took a step back. The band's instrumental was accompanied by a piano and an energetic female voice, the humanoid figure approached Swiss and extended his hand.
"Hello" the figure greeted before a group of lightning fell again, filling the entire room with absolute white, extinguishing the infernal fire and thus ending the ritual.
Everything returned to darkness after such a dramatic birth, Cardinal Copia applauded excitedly and the lights turned on showing a strange lump covered with a thin and opaque black fabric, a hand with shiny black enamelled nails peeking out of it.
The ghouls avoid the gaze of the lump on the ground, somewhat uncomfortable and extremely tired. But Cardinal Copia waited to see the slightest movement to ensure that the ritual had gone perfectly.
The lump trembled with a movement similar to a first breath.
"Okay, everyone out." announcement, the Cardinal "It's time to find out what they have sent us from hell"
The group's rib cage calmed and a huge sigh of relief escaped everyone's lips. Cirrus and Cumulus crossed their fingers, it was no secret that since Aurora's arrival no girl ghoul had arrived. The ghoul area needs more feminine energy.
"Swiss, can you wait outside?" Copia asked him.
Like owl heads, the group looked at Swiss waiting for his response. Even the disinterested Montain had turned to look.
"Yes," he responded with the firmest tone he could fake.
Aurora approached and pulled one of her sleeves, she didn't have to speak, her concern was obvious. The last time it had been Aether who had stayed at the ritual to bring Phantom. Aether never came back.
Swiss approached Aurora's ear in a hug. "I'm not going anywhere," she whispered, trying to calm her agitated essence.
The ghoulette didn't believe him, clearly. But I trust him, because Swiss never lied.
Inside, Swiss's soul wanted to run after them, but his duty prevented him from showing that kind of rebellion.
He turned to the Cardinal, this walk way towards Swiss handing him a shiny new helmet, accompanied by the usual uniform.
Copia crouched in front of the bundle, lifting the fabric a little to discover what it was hiding, squinting in case everything had failed, giving it more suspense. The figure trembled and both Copia and Swiss took a few steps back.
Little by little the figure stood up, showing a wild tangle of short black hair from which two small black horns with white tips protruded, its tail uncoiled from around its leg and waved behind its back, its hands holding the blanket to avoid being naked.
"She's a she," Swiss sighed with the air contained in his lungs and his lower lip slightly fallen.
"Wonderful" Copia pronounced with some pride, the girl raised her head quickly and the Cardinal was met with a gaze of coal-black pupils and eyelids that contrasted with the glaucous blue of his irises, the creature opened its mouth showing its fangs, perhaps to speak but I don't breathe out any words.
Swiss knocked after the Cardinal, a sign that he should start talking before everything became awkward.
"Do you want to get dressed?" Copia asked in a friendly tone. The girl nodded and the Cardinal nudged Swiss lightly to hand the package to the demon.
Her eyes lit up when he saw her clothes and without shame he completely dropped her blanket, amazed by everything he had before her. Swiss immediately looked at the ceiling and prayed to Satan that Copia had done the same. The lack of what they called modesty was normal in new ghouls, small details that lost importance in hell.
"It would be ideal if you could start with the pants," suggested Copia who had turned around.
They heard the fabric slide down her legs, the metal buttons clicked as she pushed them into the buttonholes of her pants, the next time she put her feet on the ground it was with the boots, giving her a few extra inches of height.
She continued dressing, tucking the Victorian-sleeved blouse into her arms and securing the vest to her body. She looked at herself for a few minutes, satisfied with her appearance.
"Already?" Copia asked, who had turned around with a hand over his eyes, he seemed somewhat uncomfortable or self-conscious about the situation.
"Yes" A feminine and friendly voice answered him.
Copia looked through his fingers to make sure before removing his hand from his face and remembering that he had a script to follow and had to start as soon as possible.
"Ahem…" He cleared his throat and began to speak. Swiss stood silently next to he, holding her helmet. "Do you know why you're here?"
"Yes" replied with a timid tone.
"You are here to be part of Ghost, to help me with your talent to bring the message of the Clergy to the whole world, do you understand that?" The young woman nodded "Do you understand that you are not indispensable and can be replaced if you become a stone in my way to fulfill my mission?" That was the part of Copia that he hated the most because he tended to get more attached to his ghouls and ghoulettes than he should, the punishment of returning to hell was too great for small delusions of fame or prominence, that is, he had forgiven Sodo several of those but He remembered that that was the reason why Papa Emeritus III had been taken out of circulation.
"I understand, sir." He pronounced as seriously as the situation warranted. "My only duty is to help you fulfill your duty to the Clergy and bring our Lord's message to the world."
The girl walked forward, face to face with Cardinal Copia. Now came the fun part, Copia took the helmet from Swiss's hands and placed it on the girl's head, thus sealing the 'contract'.
"Well…I…" Copia took a moment to remember the next step. "What's your name?"
"Aesir, sir," she responded quickly, almost over the Cardinal's question.
"Well…Aesir, the third quintessence ghoul" He raised his voice, proclaiming. "Welcome, dear" Copia lost the threatening and vehemently image that she had maintained until then, when she gave Aesir a warm welcome hug.
The girl seemed happy to have that hug but Swiss was sweating cold.
"He's one of your companions, Swiss," Copia said and the demon approached and extended his hand towards her.
"Hello," Aesir took Swiss's hand, shaking it in greeting.
"Swiss" I call Copia.
He sighed, afraid of the next words the Cardinal might say.
"Could you take Aesir with the others?" The ghoul's mouth opened a little in surprise, he was expecting farewell words "The girls will be very happy to see another female face in the pavilion."
Swiss smiled with deep relief and nodded. "Yes, Cardinal." He directed the girl to the door. "After you," he offered chivalrously.
"Oh, Aesir," Copia called. "If there is any problem, don't hesitate to tell me. In cases of emergencies or things like that." The Cardinal said goodbye.
"Bye," she said as Swiss closed the door behind them both.
I hope you like it, I'm new to the fandom and the lore is somewhat complicated, all help would be VERY welcome.

Ghost fans I swear I haven't forgotten about you.. the hermitcraft fixation just came back with a vengeance 😭
Tumblr media
I'm still very much a fan of the band! It's just hard to draw all of my fixations at once, especially since I only post one drawing per week (I would post more but I want my posting to be consistent and if I drew more it definitely wouldn't be💀)
Zero (the one with tiny white horns and brown hair) is my ghoulsona :D

EVERMORE: Preface
Eddie Munson Fic - Evermore Directory - Word Count: 2.2K
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Tumblr media
I died there. I should be dead.
Eddie gasps awake, choking on stale air. His mouth tastes of metallic. He coughs several times, wincing with each cough, before he’s finally able to take a deep breath on his hands and knees. Everything, all at once, floods back to him.
“I ran away… I just ran and I left her there. [...] Look at us. We are not heroes. [...] Buying more time. [...] Come On! [...] I didn’t run away this time, right? [...] It’s finally my year, Henderson… I love you, man.”
“Eddie!!” His eyes widen in horror. His right hand immediately grabs at his left side. He feels torn fabric and dried blood, but he feels no pain, He looks down, no open wounds, not even scars. What’s happening? He looks up, turning his head to look at the scene around him.
“Henderson?” His dry throat struggles to get his voice out. “Dustin!?” Nothing. It’s like calling out into an empty tunnel. There’s nothing.
Eddie tests his legs, pushing himself off the ground. The red lightning seemed to have calmed leaving just a dark, blue hue over everything. “Hello?” Eddie tried in vain. A scared frown adorned his face as he began walking carefully around the fallen, deformed bat creatures that looked more like dark spots on the cold ground. Without the lightning overhead, it felt as though he was walking through a dark room illuminated only by moonlight through thin curtains.
He barely makes it five steps before a sharp pain stings through his head. “Ah!” He squeezes his eyes shut and reaches for his covered forehead. The pain is near blinding, causing a high-pitched ringing in his ears.
He falls to kneel down, focusing on his jagged breathing. After a few agonizingly slow seconds pass, he’s finally able to catch his breath once again. What the fuck was that? Eddie blinks a few times to readjust his mind and eyes. When he opens his eyes, it’s like someone suddenly turned on the lights. He shakes his head, trying to shake his brain’s wiring back into place. Looking up at his surroundings, everything is as clear as day. Eddie furrows his brows confused. These details weren’t there before. He could barely see the creatures below him a few moments ago, but now he could see the grain details of the trees meters in front of him. What?
His ears perked up. Everything seems incredibly quiet. No wind, no sounds of animals, but there is this noise. Eddie couldn’t quite find the words to describe it. What is that? It’s a low, constant sound, barely there, but eerie. It was like the sound of a grip, the sound of balling up a tight fist, the sound of moving around in leather, constriction. What could be causing that? It was coming from everywhere and nowhere. Whatever it was, wherever it was, Eddie didn’t want to find out.
Eddie closes his eyes and shakes his head again, willing that sound to go away, and it does. His brows close together again in confusion as he opens his eyes back up. This time, everything went back to black. The world was dark again. What is happening to me? He stands and starts stumbling through the darkness again, tripping over what he can only assume as bat-things again.
He had no clue where he was headed. He could only hope it would be somewhere or someone familiar. He has questions that need answers. “Hello!!” He shouts out again, throwing caution to the wind. At this point, he didn’t care if he grabbed the attention of one of these dreaded creatures. He just needed to know someone was out there. He couldn’t stand the silence. He needed to know he wasn’t alone.
It seemed like hours that he walked around aimlessly. He still had yet to run into anyone or anything. He’d already given up calling out. Hawkins, or this version of Hawkins, was empty. Did they win? Did they lose? What did this mean? He could only assume, hope that they won. The world was empty. He could only hope that the emptiness didn’t mean everything on this side managed to make its way over.
The only thing that still seemed alive were the vines. The creepy tentacle type things. Eddie avoided them at all costs and with every careful step. They didn’t reach for him. They, in fact, seemed dormant. He prayed that was a good sign.
Confirming no one was left, Eddie made his way to every spot he’d encountered before, in search of a way back home. Nothing. The original one they came through at the lake? Gone.  The hole at the top of his trailer? Gone. He wandered the highway outside Forest Hill and still nothing. The only other place he dared to check was where his friends were headed to fight while he died.
He stands outside the house, staring at the body in the lawn from the street, if you can even call that a body. It was broken and burnt to a crisp, laying atop singed dead grass. So, we won? He frowns in disgust at the thing, fighting the urge to kick it with all his might as he steps around it. Eddie creaks open the front door to the Creel house slowly. The house was infected with vines all over. They littered the floor, crawled up the walls. It seemed impossible to make it through without disturbing at least one, but Eddie was desperate. He can’t stay here. He slid through the crack in the door and moved through the house like a sleeping lion’s den. Each place he rested his sneakers to take a step, the vines moved as if parting a way for his feet, yet every step, every creak of a wooden step, every breath still caused Eddie to wince. He manages to get into the attic without an attack or disturbance. He wasn’t sure if he even needed to be this careful with Venca dead, but he wasn’t going to take any chances.
All he finds is the remnants of battle, empty shotgun shells and broken glass. He sighs in frustration. “God damnit!” He can’t stay here. There’s got to be a way out. He feels as though he’s on the verge of crying. I can’t stay here.
Eddie makes his way out of the house, more rushed than the first time, the vines parting easily. This time, he can’t resist the urge to jump into an angry kick at the decaying body. “Shit! Christ! Son of a Bitch! God Dammit!” As he screams out, venting into the void, an angry red thunder and lightning roll in the clouds above. He lets frustrated tears fall as he stumbles. He walks away from the house and out the expansive front lawn trying and failing to hold it together. He brings a hand up to his forehead and rips the bandana off his head, throwing it to the ground defeated. He sighs out a sob, unable to keep it in anymore. He stands alone in the middle of the quiet street weeping uncontrollably. It’s hopeless.
It takes a few minutes, but eventually he’s able to calm his erratic hiccups, puffing out his wet cheeks, breathing in through his runny nose and out his lips. He bends down to pick up his bandana, threading it through a belt loop in his pants before walking away from the dilapidated house and towards the closest thing he can call home.
He follows the highway until he gets to a familiar sign, ‘Forest Hill Trailer Park’. He’d never thought he’d miss this place. The clouds seemed to calm themselves now, bringing back in the tranquil darkness. Eddie moves through the streets of the park by pure muscle memory. He felt numb, paralyzed, petrified. He stood outside his boarded up and damaged trailer, the deep gashes in it only a reminder of his fight. Though they won, he couldn’t help but feel futile. He couldn’t bring himself to walk back inside, not yet. He hated the reminder of her, yet, now, he longed to see the evidence of what was once her, the very thing that would take him home.
Eddie turned away from the trailer and continued to walk down the path. He continued to loiter in the nearby forest until his legs gave out. He took his knees buckling as a sign to sit down. Wandering over to a tree, he slides his back down the thick tree trunk until his bum hits the ground with a thud. “What am I gonna do?” he asks no one. His eyes start to burn, nose stinging as tears threaten to fall again. He closes his eyes and throws his head back against the wood. It hurt, but he was so unbelievably frustrated that he couldn’t bring himself to care.
He takes a deep breath in and holds it in his lungs until they too begin to burn. He shakily breaths out and opens his eyes to stare up at the dark clouds, through the vacant forest canopy. I’ve got to get home. A determined frown makes its way upon his face. Eddie brings his eyes down to glare a hole into the barren tree across from him. I have to get home. At first he thinks his eyes are deceiving him when he notices the tree crack. His eyes widen in confusion, but his determination doesn’t waiver. The crack grows and begins to widen, exposing a glowing weblike interior. It grows until it's wide enough for Eddie to squeeze through.
Several moments pass before Eddie makes a move. He wasn’t sure if he should trust this seemingly spontaneous gate opening, but he didn’t seem to have many options, so he took his chances and crawled to it. He tested it first with a stick, clearing out the disgustingly gooey webs. He grimaces but ultimately decides to get down on his elbows and begin army crawling through the tight space. This is nothing like the two portals he’s gone through, yet the change in atmosphere was familiar as he passed through a certain threshold. Once he feels that change, he begins to crawl a little faster. Through the webbing ahead, he could see light, actual light, not just glow. Eddie could feel his heart thumping in his ears. Please be home. He reaches out his hand through the final layer of sticky webbing and feels a breeze.
He practically falls through the hole and onto the ground on the other side of the gate. He backs away from the tree he just came out of, kicking his legs out in front of him to clumsily crawl backwards. Fresh air, he’s breathing fresh air. The wind is rusting through the leaves of trees around him. The warmth of summery air hits his skin. Lush soil and grass could be felt under his hands, dampening the backside of his jeans.
Eddie takes in the world around him, falling to his back with a sigh. He begins laughing like a maniac. He brings up a fist to shake it at the sky, “Yes!” He says triumphantly through gritted teeth. Eddie drops his hand back to the ground and lays there with a relieved smile. After the success of returning to his home world wears off, he’s suddenly hit with the reality of everything. Fuck, what now? His breathing starts to pick up a little as a small frown replaces the smile on his face. He sits up to his elbows and glances passed his dirty sneakers to the glowing, living portal ahead of him. He doesn’t know why he does it, but he tries to close it, staring at it harder and harder. Come on, Munson. We can’t just leave this here. He clenches his jaw, willing the thing to go away, and, scarily enough, it does what it’s told.
The sides of the glowing portal start to draw nearer to each other, but before it can close completely, a sharp pain stabs Eddie's brain again. “Ah!” he winces, grabbing at the matted hair atop his ringing head. He stops trying, and the pain ceases. He looks back up to the gate, it's halfway closed and no longer glowing or pulsating, but it’s still there. You know what, good enough. Eddie sighs and slowly makes his way to his feet. “Shit.” He breaths out as he wobbles on his feet. He feels lightheaded and dizzy like he’s going to black out any second. He stumbles over to a nearby tree, a normal one, and uses it to help push him to the next one.
Though he was walking aimlessly before, these are his woods. He knows them like the back of his hand. Eddie tumbles from tree to tree in the direction of the trailer park. Just gotta reach home. He repeats like a mantra in his head. Come on, man, can’t pass out now. It doesn’t take too long before he reaches the edge of the tree line. Thankfully, everything looks relatively the same in the park. He manages to make it to the front steps of the trailer, just barely able to knock on the screen door before the corners of his vision start to go dark. God, I hope Wayne is okay.
