Vice-chancellors have rejected calls to shut down the pro-Palestine encampments at Australian universities, saying campuses don’t want to see an “escalation” of the kind that is happening in the US.

A snap meeting was held on Thursday between the Group of Eight (Go8) vice-chancellors, the Australasian Union of Jewish Students, the Executive Council of Australian Jewry (ECAJ) and the secretary of the education department to discuss the safety of students and staff amid the protests.

Vicki Thomson, the Go8 chief executive, said it was a “very constructive” meeting that allowed universities to hear the concerns of representative bodies.

Mark Scott, the vice-chancellor of the University of Sydney, attended Thursday’s meeting. A protest on the lawns of his university is now into its 11th day, the longest of any Australian camps.

Scott took to LinkedIn on Thursday to reject calls from shadow education minister Sarah Henderson for police intervention, maintaining the exercise of free speech could be “challenging and confronting”.

“I am not convinced what is happening on US campuses demonstrates a pathway to greater safety and security for any students or staff, nor helps to build a community committed to free speech and thoughtful exchanges of divergent views,” Scott wrote.

“Protests and vigorous debates have always been part of our culture of academic freedom … even when, as individuals, we may strongly disagree with things we hear said.”

On Friday, the University of Sydney camp was met with a counter-protest by the group Together with Israel, but the situation remained relatively peaceful. There was no apparent police presence.

Monash University’s vice-chancellor, Prof Sharon Pickering, was also in attendance at Thursday’s meeting, as was the University of Adelaide’s provost, Prof John Williams. Both universities have backed the lawful expression of peaceful protest on their campuses.

The University of Melbourne’s vice-chancellor, Duncan Maskell, wrote to his university’s community last week reiterating respect for peaceful protest was “core” to the university’s values.

The Jewish Council of Australia has condemned the wave of counter-protests, labelling one at the University of Melbourne on Thursday a “motley group of rightwing zionists”.

Its executive officer, Dr Max Kaiser, said students in the Gaza solidarity camps were taking a “brave and peaceful stand against genocide and should be heard”.

Caitriona who?

At the start of the VIP panel in the video I posted Sam brought Caitriona into the conversation immediately. With the murmur that went through the 80 women seated it was clear that the audience didn’t want her to be part of the conversation. During this session not one question was asked regarding Caitriona or Sophie. It was Ssm and Duncan who included Caitriona in the episode memories telling us they FT her.

During the reminiscence of the past ten years Sam spoke about how they all grew together. He mentioned that very soon it would be Sophie’s 30 birthday and she was 23 when he started her Brianna journey. Again that shift.

Not interested in women who were not present.

Sam got the energy and vibe of his audience. After the photo sessions were over, and all the small talk was over and he came back on stage for his solo panel he had the temperature of the room. The female cast were not wanted in the jokes, tidbits and answers.

I was surprised because I thought 🇦🇺 women would be different. I was wrong. It’s all Sam. And then bizarrely for me, Duncan, who for them is the second best male.

The dream is JAMMF with the added bonus of being up close and personal with Sam.

Caitriona who?!

The demographics in Sydney were interesting. A lot of young tattooed women. A majority of 40-55. And then the older nana fans. For them OL is Sam. They miss Duncan and enjoy the younger men. It would have been interesting to have experienced the David Berry affect.

Having experienced this I can absolutely understand why Caitriona loathes the Cons and stays away now.

It really was an eye opener.

MAKE IT FUCKING GEOGRAPHICALLY ACCURATE -

From the wiki: 'Chris states that Hanging Rock is in the Blue Mountains of Australia, but Hanging Rock is located in the Australian state of Victoria, while the Blue Mountains are in New South Wales, near Sydney.'

And Hanging Rock doesn't look like that, neither does the Blue Mountains!

So I would do this by:

Making London a reward challenge w/ Team Chris winning (as they truly deserve) so Noah is safe. Team Chris gains Duncan as there 'reward'. The Gwuncan kiss doesn't happen because I don't like it.

Team Chris wins in Greece as Noah volunteers and crushes the boar challenge (canonically good with animals). Team Amazon votes off Sierra because she made them lose - Courtney is annoyed at her for beating her up, Cody always votes for her, and Heather also votes for her.

In X-Files, Team Chris still lose and Tyler gets medically evacuated (RIP) (he's alive but ouch).

Then I would keep the challenge (but remove the emu riding part because you do not fuck with emus like that or ride them - we lost a war to them), but make it so that each team is split into two, tossed somewhere in Melbourne and has to find their way via public transport to Hanging Rock.

Disappointed in the stuff they've shown off for 2.2

At a glance, the new 6 Stars look very derivative. I'll admit that it might be unfair to call Lopera "Gun Sonetto" when we barely know anything about her. But I don't think it's unfair to call Anjo Nala "Lizard Isolde" when the trailer doesn't make her out to be anything but another "pale skinned, dark haired singer that probably has mental issues."

Mr. Duncan looks okay (I'm glad for the people that wanted that kind of character), but I saw an edit of him with tanned skin and now his design is ruined to me (why is he so pale in the official art, he looks like he should at least have a tan)

White Rum looks fine in a vacuum? But I'm annoyed because it feels like "Bluepoch would rather put a Skeleton Hand into the game than have one dark skinned character for their Brazil patch".

I'm not surprised this happened. I never posted about it, but I already got burned on the Uluru Games patch (it'd be one thing if that patch had been set in idk Sydney or something, but when you set your Australia patch in Uluru of all places, you could at least have 1 Indigenous Australian as a playable character).

Part of me was hoping Bluepoch would do better, probably because of the recent stuff with Genshin. It would have been really great to see Reverse 1999 to really step up in terms of character diversity, but they didn't and that's a real bummer.
