Practically All of the Non Hamato and Non Villian characters
(also known as I have brainrot about my turtles’ world and wanted to share the human (or ‘human’) squad with you!)
Tumblr media
The closest manhole to the turtles’ lair is in the center of the courtyard of Arcadia Apartments, a small 2 story building with three apartments on each story, the owner’s apartment (although it's functionally abandoned), and a communal laundry/ other uses space. The residents of these apartments are the characters I want to share with you today!
April [Top Left]: A human woman in her early 20s just getting on her feet  while going for her degree in Anthropology at the local community college. She is an amateur journalist who runs a blog about local cryptids and legends that people think are fun but no one really believes. April finds out the truth about these cryptids on one fateful rainy night on her way home from a late night class.
Casey [Bottom Left]: A 20 something year old mechanic by day and vigilante by night under the name The Penalizer. Due to issues with his mom and his dad out of the picture, he lives with and has not so legally recognized custody of his younger sister (although he has a hard time being there for her with everything going on.) He has played every sport known to man but his true love is ice hockey. Despite all logic, he is a morning person.
Angel [Not Depicted]: Casey’s 15 year old sister who has been mixed up with the Purple Dragons for some time. Due to Casey not being around to check her, she is able to go out with them without intervention.
Frankie and Sydney [Top Right]: A couple in their early 30s who live in the human world with their two young children: Sunita (age 5) and Timothy (age 2) [Not Depicted]. Frankie is an entertainer for rent at various establishments and events while Sydney works as a bartender at Run of the Mill. Sydney is a cool mom type with Frankie being a goofy doting husband. That one couple who give really good advice and are destined to be a cute old couple one day.
Irma [Middle Left]: A type A very structured and successful hardass (affectionate) woman in her late 20s maybe early 30s. Irma works at Stockman Enterprises in one of their engineering labs. At least… as a cover. She is a robotic human suit being piloted by a smaller yokai being that resembles a gray alien.
Keno [Small in the Center]: A mid to late 20s man who's just living life and working as a delivery man. He games in his free time and is honestly living the most chill life of all of them. Can and absolutely will cook for everyone, as long as they pitch in financially of course. Is the first and only person April told about the turtles after that fateful night. When he inevitably joins forces with the turtles, he is backup tech support, hacking, manning drones, machines, and cameras from their lair (or his own apartment setup) whenever Donnie’s unable to in the field.
Mei [Center Leftish]: I’m going to keep this brief as I’ve explained her backstory and role here. This is her in her younger days, back when she was more aggressive and inexperienced in the ways of the world outside the arena but after her defeat at the hands of Splinter/ Shen. Despite being a source of wisdom for her neighbors, I could see her becoming an antagonist with the right motivation.
This character doesn’t live with the others but I drew him here:
Yukichi [Bottom Right]: The cousin and mentee of Miyamoto Usagi. After an event in his past, he was shot through the multiverse, unable to find his way back. He travels around the multiverse as a ronin helping/ protecting people and exploring the various universes. He has a sword with the mystic power to control the wind (a la the mythology around Grasscutter and Yuichi having a mystic weapon).
It's likely I’ll do a separate post about him someday and why I made this decision in depth, but it felt too strange to change Miyamoto this much, but this version of Leo doesn’t match Yuichi’s personality. I thought the premise of taking a naiver and more optimistic character and having him become more like his mentor through experience would be interesting.

“Tiva” is back. CBS Studios is expanding its ever growing NCIS franchise by bringing back two fan favorite characters from the mothership series, Tony DiNozzo, played by Michael Weatherly, and Ziva David, portrayed by Cote de Pablo, who will reunite on screen for the first time in 10 years. Paramount+ has given a 10-episode series order to the untitled spinoff headlined by Weatherly and de Pablo and written by John McNamara (Trumbo, The Magicians). All three executive produce.
Nicknamed NCIS: Europe, the new action-packed spinoff, set to start production later this year, will follow Tony (Weatherly) and Ziva (de Pablo) as they find themselves on the run across the continent.
NCIS is one of CBS Studios’ most valuable franchises and its expansion has been a goal for the studio. This is one of two new NCIS offshoots greenlighted this year, along with the Young Gibbs prequel series for CBS, NCIS: Origins. It is also the second extension of the NCIS franchise beyond the U.S., following NCIS: Sydney, which has been airing on CBS in the U.S.
After Ziva’s (de Pablo) supposed death, Tony (Weatherly) left the NCIS team to go raise their daughter. Years later, Ziva was discovered alive, leading her to complete one final mission with NCIS before she was reunited with Tony and their daughter in Paris. Since then – and where we find them in the new Paramount+ original series – Tony and Ziva have been raising their daughter, Tali, together. When Tony’s security company is attacked, they must go on the run across Europe, trying to figure out who is after them and maybe even learn to trust each other again so that they can finally have their unconventional happily ever after.
Tumblr media
“We’ve been talking about this story for many years, and now with John McNamara at the helm, we are ready,” Weatherly and de Pablo said. “The world of Tony and Ziva (and daughter Tali) promises to be an action-packed roller coaster fueled by love, danger, tears and laughter. We also want to acknowledge and thank the fans from around the world who supported the ‘Tiva’ movement for years. To this day, they say hello in grocery stores and on the street to tell us how much these characters mean to them and ask what Tony and Ziva are up to now. This is for you!”
Weatherly hinted at a potential ‘Tiva’ reunion last month when his New Year’s tweet, “It’s time to look at time and enjoy the moment!” prompted a fan to respond, “We all would rather look at you and Ziva reuniting.” Weatherly highlighted the comment, adding, “Stay tuned… for this might be an interesting year for such ‘moments’!” He further fueled speculation this week by responding to a fan tweet lamenting about him and de Pablo, “miss the chemistry and magic you both create,” with the cryptic, “the universe works in mysterious ways…”
De Pablo, Weatherly and McNamara executive produce the spinoff series with Laurie Lieser, Christina Strain and Shelley Meals. The series is distributed by Paramount Global Content Distribution.
“I’m incredibly excited to step into the NCIS universe with Cote and Michael and thrilled to explore it from a few new angles,” McNamara said. “Given that the franchise is such a global sensation, I think it’s phenomenal that CBS Studios and Paramount+ have given us the greenlight to shoot in Europe. As to the title of this series, if I told you what it is, I’d be violating the Espionage Act.”
Tumblr media
Weatherly, an original NCIS cast member, had been with the series since its launch in 2003. He left after 13 seasons and went on to headline another CBS/CBS Studios drama, Bull. Speculation about his potential return to the NCIS franchise picked up after Bull ended its run last spring. He recently did a surprise cameo in the Ducky tribute episode of the mothership series.
De Pablo joined NCIS in Season 3. She appeared in Seasons 3 through 10 and exited the series early in Season 11. In the Season 13 finale, it was revealed that Ziva apparently had died in an explosion in Israel. She returned three years later in 2019, where it was revealed she was alive and had gone into hiding. She made a surprise unannounced return in the last scene of the season 16 finale, which aired on May 21, 2019, in which Ziva arrives at Gibbs’ basement to warn him that his life is in danger. She later appeared in the first two episodes of the show’s 17th season and in that season’s 10th and 11th episodes as part of her storyline.
Weatherly, repped by Anonymous Content, Verve, and McKuin Frankel Whitehead, and de Pablo, repped by UTA and Entertainment 360, have remained close off-screen. In 2018, they teamed up to executive produce detective drama MIA, which was set up at CBS.
Twenty-one seasons in — currently ranking as the third-longest-running U.S. primetime drama — the mothership NCIS series remains the most watched non-sports program on broadcast. A big global seller, which once ranked as the most watched drama in the world, the venerable procedural has spawned three spinoffs in the U.S., NCIS: Los Angeles, NCIS: New Orleans as well as NCIS: Hawai’i, which kicked off its fourth season. The franchise recently went international with its first non-American offshoot, NCIS: Sydney, which also has done very well in the U.S., ranking as the most watched new series of the fall.
Veteran showrunner McNamara most recently served as an executive producer on the Apple TV+ series Physical and prior to that co-created and executive produced Syfy’s The Magicians.

Actually, going back to yesterday's topic of TMNT 2003 and it's lack of romantic subplots with the turtles themselves, I think this is the part where I mention that TMNT 2003 actually came into my life at just the perfect time?
So a little over a year ago, I ended my first serious relationship as an adult. I don't like talking about my ex too much even now, but we were together for over five years and after the break up, the next several months were spent stewing in a boiling pot of rage, sadness, and regret. I wanna say all my negative feelings towards my ex and our relationship peaked during May - July 2023 and didn't simmer down until around autumn, which coincidentally was about when I started watching TMNT 2003. (I'm also convinced that a lot of the stress from the breakup led to some of the minor-yet-concerning health problems I've been dealing with over the last several months, but I have no way of proving that.)
One of the big problems is that, at the time I broke up with my ex, I tended to watch/play a lot of romance-focused media. Under normal circumstances, I'd still be able to regularly engage with a lot of the shows and video games I normally do without being becoming a bitter ball of anguish. Unfortunately, within a couple of months of breaking up with ex, games I used to love like Rune Factory 4 Special or shows like Snow White with the Red Hair became absolutely unbearable play/watch because of all the negative feelings I had towards my ex. If a love interest wasn't reminding me of my ex with certain...behaviors, I was looking at a relationship onscreen and thinking to myself "Why couldn't we be like that?" It was a nightmare.
Fast forward (lmao) to... god, when did I start watching TMNT 2003? I wanna say I started watching it either late August or early September? The pipeline of how I ended up watching TMNT 2003 is a weird one, but there were a couple of things that stuck out to me when I first started watching it. For starters, even though it was a Western cartoon, there were certain quirks about it that reminded me of the anime I usually watch (namely the fight choreography and being so heavily plot-focused rather than episodic in its storytelling) and I found myself gravitating towards it because of that alone. And I just love the characters. The turtles themselves are incredibly well-rounded with their own strengths and flaws, and the supporting cast and antagonists make the world feel very alive and lived-in. (I personally can't get over how half the time the turtles aren't even attempting to get into trouble; they usually just end up walking into the plot of the week purely by accident.)
Tumblr media
But besides that, as I mentioned in my other post, even though there are a couple of romantic subplots in the show, most notably the April/Casey one that spans pretty much the entire series, the turtles themselves never end up entering a serious relationship with anyone. The closest we ever get to romance with one of the turtles is Don's one-sided crush on April, which was never going to go anywhere on account of her being an adult and ending up with Casey, and I wanna say the crush is almost entirely dropped by midway through Season 3. Beyond that, the turtles are never shown becoming physically attracted to anyone and all their important relationships--Splinter, April, Casey, Klunk, Leatherhead, Honeycutt, Sydney, Angel, the Professor, the Justice Force, Traximus, the Daimyo, Usagi, Gen, Renet, the Ancient One, the Acolytes, Cody, Serling, and Starlee--are all strictly platonic. And you know what? That's okay by my book.
It is a fact that society regularly insists that the key to happiness is finding your One True Love and places more emphasis on romantic relationships than platonic ones. I personally don't want to die alone, but at this point in my life, I don't need a romantic relationship to be happy--in fact, I think being in a relationship would just complicate things when I'm still getting my shit together as is. When you look at Leo, Raph, Don, and Mikey within the context 2003, I cannot recall a single moment where one of them complains about how their status as a one-of-a-kind mutant turtle means they'll probably never land a partner and as far as I can tell, they seem perfectly happy as is. They have each other, they have Splinter, April and Casey are there too, Klunk, all their other friends--really, what would giving one of the boys a love interest do for them? The answer; not all that much, honestly. In fact, I feel like the risk of giving any of the 2003 turtles a love interest far outweighs the reward.
Now, mind you, I don't think it's impossible to give one of the 2003 turtles a serious love interest--in fact, I have a lot of thoughts about how it could be done right--and that it actually would be something worth exploring in a reboot/sequel series that'll likely never happen, but again, I don't think that TMNT 2003 suffers for the lack of turtle romances and is perfectly fine as is. 2003!Leo, Raph, Don, and Mikey are very lovable characters and are able to have fulfilling relationships without any of them being romantic in nature and I think that's a good message to send to people, whether you're a young kid or a grown adult. Romance is great, but so is a crushing bear hug from your three brothers, your rat dad, and the two humans you adopted.

Review: ‘Madame Web’ is actually a good movie. Yes, really.
I'm not gonna lie: while I was heading to the theater, I was concerned going into “Madame Web.” The majority of X, formerly known as Twitter, users seemed to be against what they saw as meager storylines and weak writing, characters, and performances, especially compared to other Sony/Marvel superhero movies, so I was hesitant. I was expecting “Madame Web” to be a lot worse than it was, but a few good performances and strong found family themes elevate “Madame Web” above some lesser Sony/Marvel superhero movies.
Columbia Pictures’ “Madame Web” was released in theaters on Feb. 14 and follows Cassandra Webb (played by Dakota Johnson), a paramedic in New York City. Webb finds herself having to protect three teenagers from Ezekiel Sims, a murderous adversary with superhuman powers who is hunting them.
“Madame Web” is set in 2003 and sort of pays homage to the conventions of the comic book movies of that era. The muted color palette and minimalistic special effects are all designed to remind viewers of movies like 2002’s “Spider-Man” or 2003’s “Daredevil.”
Also, like many of those movies, Webb is depicted as aloof and antisocial, with her friend having to drag her to social gatherings. Occasionally, with these characters it doesn’t feel realistic, but Johnson really sells it which makes it all the better when she finally finds her chosen family.
The other star of “Madame Web” is Adam Scott. I’ll admit that Scott and his glorious deadpan was half of the reason why I actually watched the movie in the first place, and he absolutely killed it as Ben Parker, a name most Spider-Man fans will recognize.
That’s the other thing about Sony’s recent Spider-Man Universe — it doesn’t have Spider-Man, but it gets really close. Sony is trying to convince people that its movies are in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but they’re not. It is this confusion that is driving audiences away from its movies after films like “Morbius,” which was both a critical and commercial failure. It’s a shame too, because with better marketing more people might be able to actually enjoy this movie.
I mentioned that Adam Scott was half the reason I wanted to watch “Madame Web,” the other half was because of Isabela Merced. Merced, known for her starring role as Dora the Explorer in 2019’s “Dora and the Lost City of Gold,” brings layers to the role of Anya Corazon, who was my favorite of the three girls. The A-plus-student Corazon was one of my favorite characters in the 2017 “Spider-Man” animated series. Still, Merced portrays her as more than just an intellectual here, which I appreciated.
Sydney Sweeney and Celeste O’Connor were okay as Julia Cornwall and Mattie Franklin, but the script doesn’t give them much to do other than be a goody-two-shoes and a rebel, respectively.
The writing for “Madame Web” is kind of basic. The hero gets powers that she can’t control, finds the other main characters and must come into her power to save them – it’s all been done before. I am willing to forgive it, though, because of the ending.
I’m a sucker for the found family trope. It’s one of my favorites and “Madame Web” is a great example of it. Webb is initially reluctant to save the girls, but after learning that their real families have abandoned or left them, she takes it upon herself to protect them. By the end, Webb accepts Corazon, Cornwall and Franklin as her chosen family.
The villain in “Madame Web” is also bland. Sims sees a vision of Corazon, Cornwall and Franklin killing him, which is fine, but what I don’t get is why he doesn’t just try to talk to them first, instead of going right to hunting them.
I also thought the dialogue mixing for him was off. Whenever he spoke in voiceover, it sounded much deeper than his actual voice.
There was a lot of good humor in “Madame Web.” Johnson and Scott have a good rapport as Webb and Parker, with Scott stealing the spotlight in every scene he is in. The girls also have good chemistry.
The music was surprisingly good. I appreciated the use of Britney Spears’ “Toxic” as a plot device, and Tiffany’s cover of “I Think We’re Alone Now” was also appropriate for the scene, because they were, in fact, alone.
Unlike most of X, I actually enjoyed “Madame Web.” If you ignore what people on the Internet say, maybe you will too.

Occupation: Late Night Radio Host for 100.3 Pirate radio.
Family: Richard Llewellyn (Father), Bronwyn Llewellyn (Mother), Griff Lllewllyn (Older brother), Cynthia Llewellyn (Younger sister).
tw violence, injury // @aurorabayaesthetic
Second born of the Llewellyn brood, it was almost like Reginald Llewellyn was sent to test everything his parents had thought they knew about parenthood. As soon as he could walk, he could run headfirst (literally, on several occasions) into danger. As soon as he could talk, he could spin a yarn. He had a big imagination and an even bigger penchant for exaggerating when he knew he would be rewarded with attention for it.
Where his parents and his older brother were academically gifted, Reggie was just loud. He liked to make a racket and to cause one, and he never stuck to a hobby for longer than a month. Drums lasted three weeks, football lasted two, karate made it three and a half weeks.
His parents always found his everchanging whims charming, though his teacher’s rarely agreed. Reggie embodied the word average as a student, never excelling but not failing outright either. From reception right up to Year 8, he carved out a place for himself as the class clown, gaining frequent reprimands and trips to isolation from his teachers. The move from Cardiff to Aurora Bay hadn’t helped much in that department, he was exactly the same from middle school and all through high school.
When the time came to start seriously considering college and what kind of life he wanted for himself after it, Reggie opted to take a gap year. That was how he found himself as a holiday rep in Ibiza from ages 18 to 22, with one year stretched into four in what felt like the blink of an eye, he knew that his promise to his mother that he would get a degree was just like half the things he said – empty air. He decided to travel instead, working odd jobs and making his way through central Europe on a series of trains.
By 24, he was trekking through Asia and supporting himself in much the same way. By 26, he was Australia bound. He spent a year and a half down under, living with his then best friend Street Smith, a California native he had met while doing necessary farm work to keep his visa. It was in a bar in Sydney in December 2018 where Reggie’s smart mouth finally caught up with him and a disagreement over a pool table turned violent. After hurling some insults at the Aussie who he had exchanged words with, he ended up getting jumped in the alley beside the bar while trying to stumble his way to an Uber, which resulted in a scar on his right cheek from being bottled and lingering issues with headaches stemming from a concussion he got during the incident.
That was the first and only Christmas back at Aurora Bay with his family Reggie ever missed.
Rattled in the aftermath, Reggie was forced to take stock of his life so far and whether he had really made anything of it. Living in the moment had always been where he was most comfortable, but the carelessness he usually exhibited was frayed by a genuine fear experienced during the attack that he might not see the next one.
Deciding to move back stateside, he and Street split rent on a shared room in Los Angeles where they spent time mulling what to do next. Over the years, both had amassed a decent following on their respective Instagrams from their travels, and the combination of the two of them sent both their engagements skyrocketing.
After creating a successful dual TikTok account in 2020, they decided to listen to their audience’s demands and began to work on a podcast together. FaceTime Your Mom was an instant hit, the name serving a play on the fact both of them had been terrible at keeping up with their families when they had been solo travelers. Clipped versions of the YouTube recording of their podcast went viral from time to time, and everything seemed to be on the up for the pair.
That was until their bust up in 2023, when Reggie walked out mid-recording of an episode of FYM and never came back. Street had wanted to recount what happened in Sydney as a storytime on an episode for months by then and each time Reggie refused and when he was blindsided with a mention of it mid-episode about an entirely different topic, he ended the podcast and the friendship then and there.
Faced with uncertainty that was entirely his own doing, Reggie decided his best course of action was to go home. He showed up in Aurora Bay for Thanksgiving 2023 and hasn’t left since. He briefly crashed at his parents before finding his own digs in Seabrook with his best friend Fletcher, and he’s recently started a new gig as the late night host for 100.3 Pirate radio.
PERSONALITY.
+ goofy, adventurous, spontaneous.
- indecisive, scattered, unreliable.
FUN ADJACENT FACTS.
FaceTime Your Mom’s vibe pre it ending was very The Basement Yard vibes aka two dumb bitches just telling each other exactlyyyyy except into a podcast mic JSHGFSGHJ
every episode ended with “and don’t forget, FaceTime your mom”
the intro of it was a snippet of a deliberately shoddy and slightly more upbeat cover of Facetime with my Mom (Tonight) by Bo Burnham recorded by Reggie and Street. They promised a full cover for the 200th episode but the podcast didn’t get that far
Was officially diagnosed with ADHD at 31, though anyone who knew him well could have told him that just by being around him.
The Nald was Reggie’s short lived rap name. He uploaded to soundcloud for three months at 17 and he’s haunted by his digital footprint ever since.
Put on a pair of crocs for the first time and never looked back. Got the name Dundee from how often he wears them.
Absolutely loves a fun croc jibbitz
Is the absolute worst when it comes to keeping in contact. Loses his phone often, will reach out on strange numbers when he gets a replacement one.
Terrible texter.
Excess energy to the max, gets very restless if he has to be still for too long.
Has a bunch of tattoos from his travels.
A chancer through and through, has worked a bunch of jobs he’s completely unqualified for because he can talk the talk and it gets him everywhere.
Lies about the origin of his facial scar because he doesn’t like to talk about what happened to him. It ranges from plausible (took a spill in someone’s kitchen on a drunken night and hit the counter edge) to absurd (got side-swapped by a bear, you should see the bear).
Has found a way to survive on 5 hours sleep a night, far from ideal but since his attack he finds it difficult to drift off unless he’s exhausted or baked.
His party trick is perfectly pronouncing llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllanty (longest town name in wales). it’s where his welsh fluency starts and ends.
truly believes wales will win a world cup in his lifetime (delulu)
his favorite song is Want That Old Thing Back by The Notorious B.I.G
had a mohawk for 2 weeks in 2022

A     tolarnogalleries.com
Rosemary Laing is a photo-based artist. Her projects are most often created in relation to cultural and/or historically resonant locations throughout Australia. With interventions undertaken in situ or through the use of choreographed performance work, she engages with the politics of place and contemporary culture.
B     Victoria Lynn
Laing has spent time researching the history of land and the notion of landscapes at length, and through multiple angles. This has included film, literature, and painting, and the belief systems of Indigenous people. “Laing asks us to think through our own relationship to these bodies of knowledge and our sense of belonging and displacement in these landscapes.
C     Rachel Kent
Eschewing digital means, Laing worked in situ to construct her dramatic tableaux, with performers from athletes to stuntwomen, and other collaborators.
D    artgallery.nsw.gov.au
In the 'flight research' series Laing photographed a woman wearing a bridal dress suspended in the air. In some works she hovers over an extensive mountainous landscape seeming to defy the laws of gravity. In others such as this image there is a poignant sense of impending disaster as the bride tips forward hands outstretched, seeming to anticipate her eventual contact with the earth. The bright cerulean blue of the sky and the white of the bride’s dress make a dramatic contrast and seem symbolic, the blue suggesting infinite space and traditionally the heavens and the white dress carrying the weight of virginity, innocence and purity.
Laing has created several series around flight and movement including 'brownwork' photographed at Sydney airport in which figures interact with planes and tarmac in unexpected ways. However the 'flight research' and 'Bulletproofglass' series are the most enigmatic with their subject matter of hovering brides. These surreal images echo the role the bride has had in popular culture - in films such as 'Muriels wedding' (1994) - and in high culture in such paintings as Arthur Boyd’s Brides series. The symbolism of the bride remains powerful in modern and contemporary culture and Laing participates with her own images which suggest both freedom and transcendence but also impending tragedy and disaster.

This drawing is near completion. Here's what I have. As you can see, I drew two additional characters from the Fireman Sam Series. Before their Debut, some characters were part of other services for their respective countries, the United Kingdom, or the Commonwealth of Nations. Here's a list of the Characters and where they were before their debut on the Fireman Sam Series. It also includes what Uniform they have on in this drawing. Hi Jess, thank you so much for opening up book rec and congrats on 100 followers :D I'm looking for books that can be comp to a novel I'm writing (so similar things are my target). Can you find sth that is a spy thriller that leans more toward James Bonds-y, Kingsman-y sorta spy flick where there are colorful villains and world-ending scheme? (rather than realistic intelligence business). If they have a strong element of romance, that would be super swell as well. I would love to read about 3 of these, if you can find them, and hopefully they are recent releases, or as new as possible.
Again, thank you so much :)
I am so sorry I took so long to reply. Real life got in the way, but I'm happy to share some titles I found that might fit the bill for you.
I avoided suggesting most books in series, and it seems like all spy novels are in series!
The Secret Service of Tea and Treason by India Holton (April 2023) is the third book in her Dangerous Damsels series. Alice (aka Agent A) is in charge of thwarting an assisnation attempt on Queen Victoria, but must partner with her rival, Agent B. This book got all the stars in the major library review journals, and it doesn't look like you need to read the first two books in the series to read this one. Definitely historical, and the romance element is strong.
Stars and Smoke by Marie Lu (March 2023) paris up Winter Young, a 19-year-old male pop star, with Sydney Walker, a 19-year-old operative, who must take down a crime boss together. The crime boss' daughter is a hige Winter Young fan. There's romance, villains, and takes place in modern day.
Hawke by Ted Bell (June 2003) is an homage to James Bond. As a child, he watches pirates murder his parents. Thirty years later, he is charged with saving the United States from being bombed by the Russians in the Cold War. He's a playboy, has toys, and there are over-the-top villians that we expect in a Bond book or film.
Alias Emma by Ava Glass (August 2022) - Secret agent Emma Makepeace has 12 hours to bring the son of Russian dissidents into custody without being detected in London, one of the world's most surveilled cities. Definitely action based.
Finally, The Moneypenny Diaries by Kate Westbrook (January 2005) is written in Miss Moneypenny's point of view. The description sounds cheesy but fun, and it will give you the James Bond fix you might be looking for.
Let me know if you end up reading any of these titles and how they worked out for you!

NCIS is celebrating 1,000 episodes by doing what the franchise does best -- bring people together.
On Monday night, the long-running CBS series will air its 1000th episode in the franchise more than two decades after first hitting the airwaves. In the 21 years since the pilot aired in September 2003, the show has amassed an unmatched fanbase, created 4.2 trillion minutes of television and spawned several wildly successful spinoffs based in Los Angeles, Hawaii, Sydney and New Orleans.
In celebration of the major milestone, ET was recently on set to mark the victorious moment for NCIS and CBS and spoke with cast members from all five shows, who teased what is to come in the highly anticipated special episode, which airs on Monday at 9 p.m. ET.
"We'll get to see my character, McGee, in a position that we have never seen him in, in 20 years. I'll give you that much," NCIS mothership star Sean Murray said. "If I attach anything else to it then I give it away."
"If you're like an old school fan of the show, tried and true, you're gonna have some real cool Easter eggs and some really interesting, fun things to see in the 1000th episode," Murray said. "We're not just letting it go by as one of our regular episodes, you know what I mean?"
He also teased some possible cameos from NCIS cast members and friends of past years. While Murray did not specify any names, it's safe to say fans are crossing their fingers for a Mark Harmon appearance after his departure in 2023. Also on the table are fan faves Cote de Pablo and Michael Weatherly, who were recently announced to be getting their own 10-episode spinoff.
Elsewhere on set, Wilmer Valderrama -- an NCIS star who has also appeared on NCIS: Hawaii and NCIS: Los Angeles as Nick Torres -- shared that the filming of the 1000th episode was special for many reasons but particularly because it brought together the cast and crews from across the franchise.
"It's so cool to see all the shows come together to celebrate today," Valderrama, 44, said. "This is their win as [much as] anyone else’s, you know?"
"[It's] just fun to celebrate the 1000th," NCIS: Los Angeles star Chris O’Donnell said. "We had 14 wonderful years as we spent time obviously on this set, we were launched out of this show, we came back, did crossovers, so it's big, you know? The extended family is real."
O'Donnell's iteration wrapped in 2023 after contributing more than 320 episodes to the franchise's total count. The series also starred LL Cool J, Daniela Ruah, Linda Hunt and Renée Felice Smith.
The 1000th episode of NCIS airs on Monday, April 15, at 9 p.m. ET.

Home has a number of prints by the late and great Sydney Ball available from our stockroom - pictured is Canto XV, 2003.
This work is from a suite of screenprints that revisit Ball’s ongoing series of ‘Cantos’ paintings, drawings and prints, which he first developed in the mid-1960’s while living and working in New York between 1963 and 1967.
With their bold structured forms of unmodulating colour and precise surfaces, the ‘Cantos’ signalled the domination of colour expression and formed a new direction in abstract painting in Australia, culminating in ‘The Field’ exhibition at the NGV in 1968.
The title Cantos is drawn from a cycle of poems by Ezra Pound.

The Greatest Cricket Clashes: India vs. Pakistan
Cricket, often referred to as a religion in India and an obsession in Pakistan, has produced some of the most intense and emotionally charged sporting rivalries in the world. While the sport itself is loved and cherished in both nations, it's when India and Pakistan face off on the cricket field that the true essence of this rivalry comes to life. These matches are not just games; they are battles, where the stakes are high, and the passion runs deep.
Historical Context:
The cricketing rivalry between India and Pakistan dates back to 1952 when Pakistan played its first-ever Test series against India. Since then, the matches between the two nations have taken on a life of their own, transcending the boundaries of sport. The geopolitical tensions and historical conflicts between the two countries have often spilled onto the cricket field, making these encounters some of the most eagerly anticipated events in the cricketing calendar.
The Passion of the Fans:
Tumblr media
What sets India vs. Pakistan cricket matches apart from any other sporting contest is the fervor of the fans. Cricket in these countries is not just a sport; it's a way of life. Millions of fans from both sides of the border are emotionally invested in the outcome of these matches. The atmosphere in the stadiums is electrifying, with passionate chants, colorful banners, and a sea of national flags. It's a spectacle that no other cricketing rivalry can match.
Cricket Diplomacy:
Interestingly, cricket has also been used as a tool for diplomacy between the two nations. During times of political tension, cricket matches have provided a platform for dialogue and a brief respite from hostilities. The famous 2004 series, often called "Cricket Diplomacy," saw India inviting Pakistan for a historic tour, which helped in easing relations between the countries.
Epic Encounters:
Over the years, India vs. Pakistan cricket matches have produced some unforgettable moments. From Javed Miandad's last-ball six off Chetan Sharma in the 1986 Austral-Asia Cup final to Sachin Tendulkar's blistering innings in the 2003 World Cup, these matches have seen heroes emerge and legends being made. Each encounter is etched in the memory of fans, and the performances of cricketers in these matches often define their careers.
World Cup Clashes:
The most intense battles between India and Pakistan have taken place on cricket's biggest stage – the ICC Cricket World Cup. These matches carry the weight of billions of expectations. The 1992 World Cup clash between the two sides in Sydney remains one of the most iconic encounters in cricket history. Pakistan emerged victorious, led by the charismatic Imran Khan, and went on to win the tournament.
The Economic Impact:
Apart from the emotions and the excitement, India vs. Pakistan cricket matches also have a significant economic impact. Advertisers and sponsors clamor for airtime during these matches, and television ratings soar to record levels. The revenue generated from advertising, ticket sales, and merchandise during these contests is staggering, making them a financial bonanza for cricket boards and broadcasters.
Sportsmanship Amidst the Rivalry:
Despite the intense rivalry, it's heartening to note that cricketing spirit and sportsmanship have often prevailed. Players from both teams have shown respect for each other's skills and celebrated each other's success. Instances of camaraderie between Indian and Pakistani players off the field have demonstrated that cricket can be a unifying force, even in the face of political tensions.
The Future of the Rivalry:
The future of India vs. Pakistan cricket clashes is always uncertain due to the unpredictable nature of political relations between the two nations. Series have been canceled or rescheduled in the past due to diplomatic issues. However, cricket enthusiasts on both sides of the border hope for more frequent encounters, as they recognize the potential for the sport to foster goodwill and understanding.

Australia Open: Sindhu knocked out in quarterfinals
Sindhu, who has slipped to world number 17th following a series of early exits, was looking to make her fourth semifinal of the season but found it tough to tame USA's Beiwen Zhang.
Tumblr media
SYDNEY: Two-time Olympic medallist PV Sindhu bowed out of the Australia Open after going down in straight games to USA’s world number 12 Beiwen Zhang in the women’s singles quarterfinals here on Friday.
Sindhu, who has slipped to world number 17th following a series of early exits, was looking to make her fourth semifinal of the season but found it tough to tame Zhang, losing 12–21 17–21 in 39 minutes in the USD 420,000 super 500 tournament.
In 10 past meetings, Sindhu had won six times against her opponent but she just couldn’t get going on Friday against the 33-year-old Chinese-born American Zhang, who showed better control to come up trumps.
Sindhu had beaten compatriots Ashmita Chaliha and Aakarshi Kashyap in the first two rounds but her loss to Zhang would come as a big disappointment as she heads to the World Championships in Copenhagen, Denmark to be held from August 21 to 27.
The 2019 world champion, Sindhu has been going through a lean patch since her recovery from an injury, and has repeatedly made early exits in as many as seven of the 12 BWF World Tour events this year.
Early this year, Sindhu had parted ways with Korea’s Park Tae-Sang and then briefly worked with SAI coach Vidhi Chaudhary. She is currently training under new coach Muhammad Hafiz Hashim, the 2003 All England champion.
Among other Indians in fray, HS Prannoy will face top seed Anthony Ginting of Indonesia, while 2021 world championships silver medallist Kidambi Srikanth will take on compatriot Priyanshu Rajawat later in the day.
