We’ve gotten more information about Dragon in the last year than we did in the previous 20 combined, and yet so much of who he is and what he can do is still a mystery. When he first appeared people had all sorts of theories, and even after we learned his full name there were still more questions than answers.

Rereading this now, I wonder what, if anything, his connection to Roger is. The juxtaposition of Roger’s words with Dragon’s first appearance make me think about what Dragon thought of Roger. At first glance Roger seems to be saying something kind of generic and inspirational, but the more we learn about the One Piece the more it makes me think. We know the Revolutionaries were founded after Roger died, but how was Roger viewed by Dragon and the other founders? Did they have an inkling about what Roger found at Laugh Tale? Does that even matter to them when they’re already determined to overthrow the World Government regardless? Also who recorded these words of Roger’s and how widely were they disseminated around the world?

Dragon’s approval is also interesting here. He’s a shit father, being so absent that Luffy didn’t even know he existed, but he may have had some desire to ask Luffy to join the Revolutionary Army at some point. He could also simply be glad that despite being raised by Garp, Luffy didn’t wind up becoming a Marine. It sounds like Dragon views Luffy’s desire to become King of Pirates as something that at least puts him on roughly the same side as the RA. That in itself makes me think he knows more about Roger than meets the eye, if the title of King of Pirates is somehow linked to the goals of the Revolutionaries.

Financially Fucked and Dealing with Climate Change (Tips On How To Survive Wildfire Season):

I'm not an expert, I'm just poor and the trees are on fire again❤️. Please reblog/add on your own tips or any information regarding fire safety, smoke safety, health, etc.

Before we get to how to clean the air, let's start with how to keep yourself safe. I can tell you to stay inside and avoid being out in all that smoke, but most of us are selling our souls to corporations and have jobs we have to go to. bummer.

1. Masks

Anyways, the ideal mask for this would be an N95, but a scarf or any kind of mask will also help you a little. Significantly less effectively than an N95 but it's better than no mask. Definitely wear while out and about, and consider wearing inside depending on how the air is in your home. Wash regularly if you're using a reusable mask or a scarf.

2. Washing

When you get home after being outside, take a shower and change your clothes. Wash all those pollutants out of your clothing, wash all the smoke particles off of your skin, and moisten up that air!! You're gonna want the air wet, I'll explain why in a minute. Not so wet that mold could begin to grow in your house though, to be clear.

3. Stay away from chemicals

Your lungs are tired. You've been working all day, breathing polluted air all day, your throat is sore and your head is killing you. You know what WON'T make you feel better? Breathing in the fumes of bleach, Lysol, Febreze, ammonia, etc. when you need to clean, stick to white vinegar or lemon juice, or something else natural, since you can't ventilate the house with all that smoke outside.

4. Honey & Ginger

Inevitably, your throat is sore and your head hurts. Honey and ginger will help you with that. Tea would be perfect. Peppermint tea will help too, any warm liquid with honey in it actually. Ginger is full of antioxidants, honey is full of probiotics, and mint soothes the throat and mouth.

5. Limit Excersize

Isn't excersize supposed to be good for my lungs? Yeah, it is. But your lungs are already working overtime just to survive the smoke with minimal damage if possible. So don't put extra strain on them now. Wait until the air is clear to play any sports or do any strenuous excersize.

6. Water (pt. 1)

Drink sooooo much water. Drink all of the water. And then drink even more water. Your body has this magical way of flushing out toxins and magically healing just by drinking water, and by magical I mean very scientific. I'm not a scientist tho, or a doctor, but its something something about kidneys and the liver idk, just drink water...

7. Public Places

Maybe a window in your home is broken. Maybe the vents don't work. Maybe you don't have a home. Whatever the reason, public spaces are a safe bet if you need somewhere to go with filtered air. City hall, libraries, and malls are all good options. Don't stay by the doors, especially if there's lots of people going in and out and smoke is wafting in. Go find somewhere away from unsealed windows and doors that doesn't smell or look hazy.

Okay, that's all I know about that. I'm not an expert. Now we're gonna talk about ways to clean ur air WITHOUT BUYING AN AIR PURIFIER, BECAUSE SOME OF US ARE POOR GOD DAMN IT. I cannot count how many results on the internet have told me to just buy an air purifier. I am EXTREMELY POOR 😎

Ways to clean the air in your home from wildfire smoke with things you probably either already have or can easily acquire:

Water(pt. 2):

Good ol' plain ol' water. I'm not a scientist, so forgive me for my lack of perfect articulation, but basically water absorbs smoke particles. Makes em clump together and coagulate so they're not just floating everywhere in the air. Also, as the water clings to the pollutants, it cools them down, which causes them to fall to the ground/floor. So unless you're army crawling everywhere, this is something to look into. Just get a spray bottle and mist water everywhere, aiming for just, like, the air and stuff. Or get a bowl of water and leave it to sit out and absorb toxins throughout the day. Maybe don't drink the water afterwards, but you can use it to water your plants. And speaking of plants~

Plants:

plants are your best friends when it comes to cleaning the air! We all know they take in carbon dioxide and release oxygen, but did you also know that some of them absorb mold and smoke particles from the air too? Well you do now! A list of plants that are especially good at cleaning the air include, but are not limited to:

-Aloe Vera

-Rubber Plant

-Any kind of Ivy (pothos, english, etc)

-Bamboo! (Cat safe)

-Snake Plant

-Spider Plant (Cat safe)

Baking Soda:

Baking soda works much like activated charcoal in this scenario, what with its ability to absorb so many impurities! And baking soda's best buddy in every 5th grade science project ever, white vinegar, can help you out too! Leaving a bowl of baking soda out, or leaving a bowl of white vinegar out, will deodorize the air; but it's not just making things smell less horrible, it doesn't just mask scents, it absorbs and 🔥ELIMINATES🔥them.

wow ok i gotta dump a bunch of lore from the story i've got going on in my mind with this au lol

also thank you izzy for that very awesome idea of the antagonist having a polluting stand thats literally SUCH good idea ok. im obsessed with it.

so, some of you who have read the lore about skagen know he nearly drowned as a kid but got caught on a fisherman's hook and thats how he got the fucked up eye and scar.

well in this au, the hook he was using is one that he found washed up on a beach. he doesnt really know or understand why he felt compelled to use that hook; it looked really old and kinda useless compared to his modern ones. it was made out of something that looked like bone, and when he touched it, to his surprise it was still extremely sharp; sharp enough to poke through his skin and make him bleed. without really thinking about it he set out to go fishing and thats when he caught skagen on his hook, saving him from almost drowning yadda yadda.

what the fisherman didnt realise until later is that the hook awakened stands in both him and skagen.

years later,  authorities are noting a quick decline in the local marine wildlife on the swedish west coast. after testing the water they also notice an absurd amount of pollutants in the water. local fishers are forced to go out further with their vessels in order to even be able to catch anything that isnt completely full to the brim with plastics or half dead from oil. the weird thing is, nobody has really seen any oil spills in the area. nobody has reported anything about it either.

but there is one fisherman who still manages to sell quite a bit, and he quickly becomes someone that everyone on the islands know about. after all hes pretty much the only one that keeps fishing in the same waters and seemingly has no problem despite the worsening conditions of the ocean.

fish, birds, seals keep washing up dead on the beaches and it eventually becomes a huge problem and people are concerned for not only the wildlife's health but also the humans.

skagen and his parents are not being able to catch or sell anything, and people are slowly beginning to turn their eyes towards the lone fisherman that doesnt seem to have any problem. most people accuse him of simply being a dickhead who sells sick poisoned fish to people without caring for anyone elses health, however skagen gets an odd feeling every time he passes him by the docks, like something is tugging at his very soul. he tells solvei about this, and while she doesnt get him she of course trusts him. the two of them decide to confront him one evening at the docks when the fisherman is returning back after a day at sea. the second solvei (in her kinda intense and eager way) starts questioning him, he gets his fishing rod out and immediately attacks her by throwing the hook at her face. it gets caught under her chin, slicing the skin from chin to lip. the fisherman flees on his boat, like a coward. skagen brings out his stand förutan vind on pure instinct and sits down to helps solvei stop the bleeding, but as he does, he turns to watch the fisherman leave. they both lock eyes, and skagen can see the fisherman also has a stand. he slowly starts to connect the dots of the entire archipelagos situation from the last couple of years.

and so solvei develops and stand as well, which is called sunnanvind! my idea with her stand is that it can heat the air and create mirages, but heating the air also means it can create deadly temperatures in a small given area. it also uses its "tail" to attack on a shorter range, kind of whipping its enemy like a thresher shark does to its prey.

OH AND ALSO. förutan vinds ability! in typical jojo fashion none of it makes sense irl but whatever. it can basically force the winds into meeting and cancel each other out, essentially "freezing" the air in place. when it does this it can basically hit pause on the air, that includes the air in peoples lungs, including skagens lungs. the area of effect on this ability is 5m from the stand, so whenever skagen uses this ability he has to move out of the way. this ability is also limited to roughly 2 minutes before it tires skagen out too much. other than this ability, it can redirect and force winds in whatever direction it needs to, enabling him to sail even when there is no natural wind. because han kan segla förutan vind >:)

I'm a few chapters into two different web novels right now and I'm being indecisive about which I want to go back to now that I finished SPL vol 2.

A few quick notes on my thoughts on each novel under the cut

NPNPH is something I started out of almost academic curiousity. Tai Sui is a borderline masterpiece that rewrote my brain, and it also has probably the best female characters I've encountered in a web novel that's not baihe. The earlier Priest works I've read so far have been good but not jaw-dropping, and the female characters just. aren't. I'm two volumes into SPL and I think there's one named woman that's not both dead and evil. And the politics of Tai Sui regarding social order and race and to some extent the military/police feel really different than what I've encountered so far in Priest's earlier works. What happened to Priest between 2015 and 2021? Is Tai Sui a fluke or is she progressing? Does she always write better women in the novels that aren't danmei?? I Need To Understand. No Pollution No Public Harm was published between Tai Sui and the other earlier works I've read, and it has a female love interest. Maybe this will shed some light on the mystery that is what the fuck is going on with Priest??? God I hope so.

Anyway, the novel itself just okay so far, but I'm only a few chapters in, so that could change.

JWQS is, of course the baby's first Baihe novel. What I've read so far is mostly pretty good, though I am somewhat put off by how it deals with Agula's culture. I like Agula a lot and I hope she kills everyone with no condemnation. She deserves it. I'm definitely going to come back to this eventually. It's just a question of if I do so before or after indulging in one of the other options.

I don't like Erha. I don't think it's well-written and I am, quite frankly, just not the target audience for this novel. I dislike the whole conceit of the main romance. I'm honestly baffled by why/how this series is so popular. I've read two volumes and I still don't get it. Unfortunately, that bafflement does make me really curious to read more. Maybe if I keep going it will get better?? And I'll understand what appeal it has beyond just Horny?? That's an evil urge, but it's there nonetheless.

btw, in the Pollution Powers AU, Angie saves Stan's life. Stan is highly flammable in oil form (something that @vulpixen actually suggested, iirc), and there's an incident with a flame where Stan actually does catch fire while he's in oil form.

Angie, who has that sort of "keeps a very cool head in high stress situations due to constant background anxiety" thing, leaps into action. she uses her powers to stretch far enough to grab the closest fire extinguisher and uses it on Stan (she has practice from using fire extinguishers to put out explosions and whatnot from Fiddleford's experiments on the farm).

Stan is injured but survives, thanks to Angie keeping her head while everyone else panicked. he's allergic to saying "thank you", so he doesn't do that (unless Fiddleford or one of their friends presses him to do so) and instead he tells her later that he owes her.
