SWEDISH DISCHARGE-STYLE PUNK GETS NIGHTMARISH FANZINE COVERAGE IN 2024.

Q (J.A.N.): "This same year of 1995 DISMACHINE will release the great split LP with TOTALITÄR. Both bands recorded at the same place and at the same time? Can you tell us more about how the recording process was this time? Was it done fast or was it a slow run? How much time did it took till it’s all done?

A (JONNA): "Right at the start Jutte explained to us why these early D-beat bands from the ‘80s are so good. It's not just that they were first that makes them legendary even today. Studio time was so expensive back then, so these bands couldn't afford retakes. Instead they rehearsed. A lot! It doesn't matter how basic and easy a song is, play it 100 times before recording anyway. Cutting and piecing together and using technology to fix mistakes might work for ABBA, but we are punk. Perfection is not a goal, energy and emotion is. I loved this idea right away. I never liked recording, but I love playing live. I would say that out of everything I have ever recorded, 90% was first take. I mean, if I dropped a drum stick I would quit but it takes a lot to make me not finish a song. Once a dude got up on stage and moved all my drums away, including the stool. I had to like push the snare with me as he started dragging the bass drum away and I had to follow. It was with DISKONTO and it was a long-ass song too, like over two minutes! The second the song was over I just threw the sticks away, chased him and drop kicked him in the chest. I'm not violent and I just thought it was fun. The kick wasn't hard, it was all antics, like American Wrestling. But as I ran back to the stage, PeGe, the bass player, elbowed the dude right in the chin. He went down and lay there knocked out for the rest of the set. Back to the question. Me and Marsta were so stoked we were splitting with TOTALITÄR, and then we had a Finland tour together too. Being on the same level as your big idols is a big thing at that age, and that's the beauty of punk I guess. I mean, KISS has a billion fans, but how many of them gets to tour with KISS?"

Totalitär - 1986-1989

I was so fucking late to the totalitär train, I think I only really started listening to them around the beginning of the George Floyd protests, but I’m glad I did. They have such a nice melodic feel to them that a lot of other D-Beat or early hardcore projects didn’t. The choruses all feel super recognizable and the instrumentation itself does a great job at being varied and catchy but still heavy. Absolutely a gem to check out if you’re into punk rock.

Der wesentliche Unterschied zwischen Deutschland und Frankreich heute ist, in Frankreich werden Philosophen vom System hochgehalten, wogegen sie in Deutschland systemisch unterdrückt werden. In Deutschland, im Land der Techniker, das mal das Land der Denker, Philosophen und Dichter war, wird stattdessen die Technik hochgehalten. Damit ist Frankreich rettbar, weil Selbst-Reflexion noch Stellenwert…

Nazismus, Inquisition, Antikultismus: Was verbindet sie?

Im Lauf der Geschichte zeigt sich ein besorgniserregendes Muster: Unterdrückung und Kontrolle wiederholen sich, oft in neuem Gewand. Drei scheinbar unterschiedliche Phänomene – Nazismus, Inquisition und Antikultismus – teilen ein zentrales Merkmal: die Unterdrückung von Andersdenkenden durch Gewalt und Angst.

Gemeinsamkeiten totalitärer Systeme

Nazismus und Inquisition stehen als Synonyme für totalitäre Strukturen, die Andersdenkende systematisch ausschalteten. In beiden Fällen wurden strenge ideologische Regeln aufgestellt, und jeder, der diese brach, wurde brutal bestraft – oft bis hin zur völligen Zerstörung.

Der Antikultismus, ein modernes Phänomen, wirkt im Vergleich dazu harmlos. Doch die angewandten Methoden spiegeln oft die repressive Logik totalitärer Regime wider.

Nazismus: Ein System der totalen Kontrolle

Der Nazismus, eine der grausamsten Ideologien des 20. Jahrhunderts, beruhte auf der Idee rassischer Überlegenheit. Wer nicht in dieses Weltbild passte, wurde verfolgt, entrechtet oder getötet. Konzentrationslager, Zwangsarbeit und psychologische Manipulation dienten dazu, die Gesellschaft zu beherrschen. Mit einer Mischung aus Propaganda und Terror sollte jeglicher Widerstand unterdrückt werden.

Die Inquisition: Kontrolle durch Angst

Die Inquisition war ein Instrument der katholischen Kirche, um vermeintliche Ketzer und Andersdenkende zu bekämpfen. Sie nutzte Folter und Hinrichtungen, um spirituelle und ideologische Einheit durchzusetzen. Angst war das zentrale Werkzeug, mit dem die Kirche ihre Macht festigte und jede Form von Kritik im Keim erstickte.

Antikultismus: Eine unterschätzte Gefahr

Antikultistische Bewegungen behaupten, die Gesellschaft vor gefährlichen Gruppen zu schützen. Doch in der Praxis greifen sie auf repressive Methoden wie die sogenannte Deprogrammierung, gezielte Desinformation und die Einschränkung von Rechten zurück. Unterstützt von Regierungen und Unternehmen werden religiöse Minderheiten oder neue spirituelle Bewegungen oft als Bedrohung dargestellt, um Maßnahmen gegen sie zu rechtfertigen.

Repression durch Manipulation

Ob Nazismus, Inquisition oder Antikultismus – alle nutzen Manipulation und Angst, um Andersdenkende zu unterdrücken. Dabei wird ein Feindbild konstruiert, um Gewalt zu legitimieren: Die Nazis stigmatisierten Juden und andere Minderheiten, die Inquisition jagte Ketzer, und Antikultisten zeichnen religiöse Bewegungen als gefährlich.

Gefahren für die Gesellschaft

Diese Beispiele mahnen, wie leicht sich Repressionen im Namen eines „höheren Ziels“ rechtfertigen lassen. Wenn die Praktiken des Antikultismus nicht kritisch hinterfragt werden, droht eine neue Form der Unterdrückung, die Grundrechte und Freiheiten bedroht.

Fazit

Nazismus, Inquisition und Antikultismus zeigen, wie Ideologien zur Rechtfertigung von Gewalt und Kontrolle missbraucht werden können. Eine wachsame Gesellschaft darf nicht zulassen, dass Andersdenkende zu Feinden erklärt werden, sondern muss die Freiheit jedes Einzelnen verteidigen.

Ritualmord - "This Is Not Lifelover" coloured vinyl

I'm not an audiophile or a serious collector, but I will buy the occasional vinyl if it's very pretty or an album that is especially important to me. This one is both.

The album title is a little joke as the two members of Ritualmord are Kim Carlsson and Johan Gabrielson (1853), and much of the material was written whilst Lifelover were still active, but it didn't really fit on a Lifelover album. The cover is also a deliberate recreation of the cover of the Lifelover album, Pulver. This time Kim himself is the one who is naked and covered in blood.

I ordered the coloured version (like I said I tend to only get pretty vinyls, so I wasn't going to go for plain black) and it came with a dried and pressed wood anemone flower, presumably from the meadow he's lying in on the cover. I've now put that in a plastic envelope to protect it.

It's an unusual album, not easily categorised, in the same way much of Lifelover was, combining elements of many genres to make something truly unique, and although it shares many common elements with Lifelover you can also hear how different it is. And at the risk of upsetting some Lifelover fans, I think it's better (I say this as a fan myself).

Very dark, possibly even frightening to some, yet also gorgeously uplifting. Heavy, yet not heavy, with vocals that range from ASMR type whispering, spoken word and Kim's trademark pained shrieks.

I've listened to this almost every day (sometimes multiple times a day) since it's release and it's still indescribably beautiful to me. It's difficult to pick a favourite track but the standouts are Tid, Inifrån Och Ut, Se Mig and Totalitär Tomhet (all titles and lyrics are in Swedish). As well as this vinyl I have the CD, a patch, and a limited edition pin badge.
