why the umbrella academy is an emotional roller coaster
I just rewatched this scene in the second season of the umbrella academy and it’s so sad?? like why, umbrella academy, why??
diego’s literally my favorite character and this scene is very unlike the persona he creates throughout the entire show (like the hero complex thing), which i think is why it’s so sad
but really, diego’s such a softie, which is why he’s my favorite haha

Hargreaves x reader (Purpose, p1)
Tumblr media
She was sweet, charming, and gentle. However, everyone but her siblings seemed to be enchanted by the youthful girls person.
Born on the same day as the other thirty six children, she claimed the power of a sixth sense. She could feel others emotions. The moment she walked into a room she could feel how they felt, which came with its side effects.
She grew up to become sensitive and weak in the eyes of her siblings. Despite her power she couldn’t fight. If anyone got physically hurt around her she felt it. Sending her into battle was a recipe for disaster.
So she stayed away with Harold Hargreaves and number seven, Vanya. The two were close, even had rooms right next to each other.
The other siblings despised her. Because, as soon as she hit puberty she discovered another point to her power. If she touched someone, she couldn’t make them feel how she felt.
So, she made it her own personal mission to be happy all the time. Not that it was hard, she just so happened to be a extremely cheery person as it was.
The girl loved everything. From sitting contently and listening to Vanya play her violin and gently singing along, to baking with Grace, the girl was a ball of joy. Her heart full giggles seemed to brighten the walls of the house.
Even Harold Hargreaves, the infamous hard heart around the household, had a soft spot for the girl. She was the only one allowed to hang around his office. She spent most of her time in there, actually. Purhaps that was the reason her siblings seemed to ignore her, ridicule her, and look own upon her.
And she forgave them each time. However one day as she sat in her fathers office, eyes tucked in a book (but not reading), she began to wonder,
“I want a purpose.” The young girl said suddenly, perched in her spot. Tucked away in the corner of the office, on the big arm chair. That’s where she could always be found, sitting in silence with a thick book in her lap.
“Eight, you have a purpose. Now let me work.” The older man said gruffly, his eyes not moving from whatever he had been doing. The girl, however, didn’t back down.
“Then what is it? Please Dad? I need to know.” The girl said, shifting out of her seat to stand before his desk.
“Leave me to my work Eight.” The man said sternly, finally moving his eyes to meet the young girls.
“But Dad!” She protested, stomping her foot like a toddler. He slammed his hand on his desk.
“Enough Eight! Get out of my office! Now!” His voice said, seeming to echo around the large house.
She huffed, sending him one last defeated look as she slammed the door.
That was the first time any of the siblings saw her cry. They all watched as the perfect child broke down in the hallway outside his office.
Vanya was the first to approach her.
“(Name)?” She asked tentatively, arm outstretched. She touched the other girls shoulder, only to literally be flung across the hallway.
“Vanya!”
“Are you ok?!”
Everyone raced to the seventh sibling. She was alright and unharmed, although dazed. Everyone turned back to (Name), who stared back at them in horror.
No one said a word.
Scrambling up from the floor, she stumbled down the stairs to the front door.
“(Name)!?”
She turned as she placed her shaky hand on the door knob. It was Five, the nicest to her other then Vanya. Luther and Diego were the harshest, Klaus and Five just ignored her.
He seemed to be asking her to come back, without words.
A monster. That’s what she was.
And as she stood there, with tear stained cheeks, staring at her siblings, she finally realized her purpose.
Opening the door, she ran out, down the street, and eventually, as far away from the academy as she could possibly get.
It wasn’t until years later, at the death of Harold Hargreaves, did they see her again.

Diego x Reader (Unexpected)
Tumblr media
Imagine: Diego introducing his pregnant fiancé to his family.
The siblings hadn’t seen each other together in years. After the events of their abnormal childhood, all seven went on their own paths.
Diego, in particular, had practically fallen off the face of the earth three years before the death of their father.
He hadn’t called Allison or Vanya. Both had their own lives, and for Allison, her own family. Luther was on the moon, so he hadn’t been in the picture at all.
The only one who actually communicated with him was Klaus. Diego was the only one around to help him. Pick him up from rehab, let him crash at his place, talk to him when he needed company.
Klaus was the only one who knew about (Name).
The pregnant woman was Klaus’ best friend, and Diego’s fiancé. She was kind, calm, and friendly. The complete opposite of her counter part.
That’s why when their father died, no one expected Deigo to come walking in with a eight month pregnant woman on his arm.
The first one to see them was Allison, who dropped the plate she was cleaning at the sight. The idea of her closed off brother, standing with his arm over a pregnant woman wearing an engagement ring. No way.
However she was nothing but nice to the woman, who she learned to be named (Name). Allison was actually ecstatic to learn the baby would be born in about a month.
The next to come was Vanya. She seemed a little less excited, but also seemed like she couldn’t care less. However her and (Name) seemed to get along, as (Name) seemed very interested in her spot in an orchestra.
Next was Klaus. He already knew (Name), and gave her a bear hug the moment he saw her. The two were practically attached at the hip as well.
Then Luther. God did Diego wish he never showed up. If it wasn’t enough he seemed to judge his fiancé, he even started a fight in the courtyard.
Insulting him was one thing, commenting about his to be wife was another. If it wasn’t for (name) he probably would of hurt the ape man a lot more then he did.

Evocation, umbrella academy x reader (p/1)
Tumblr media
He’d be disappointed.
"I know." The woman said, taking a swig of her beer.
"God, I know." She said, over looking the city. The rooftop she sat on showcases the colorful streetlights of the small city below.
Addict.
"Yeah," She said as she lit her cigarette, taking a long hit. Her makeup was smeared, her small dress drenched from jumping in the pool. The parties sounds drowned out around her as she stared blankly at her surroundings.
He's alive.
"He's dead. You know that." She said, flicking her cigarette over the edge of the roof. Her bare feet dangled over the edge, her feet swaying over the hundred foot cliff under her.
"He's gone. He's been gone for years. I'm hallucinating. Those visions were fake. I'm even talking to myself for Christ's sake." She said, laughing.
"Fuck." She added, tossing the empty bottle over the edge. She couldn't even hear it shatter as she feel back, her head hitting the shingles.
"Ow."
She took another hit from her cigarette, staring into the vast darkness of the night sky. The tattoo on her wrist seemed to mock her, along with the various scars marking her body. A permanent reminder of her roots.
"Just let it go (Name), let them go." She said, closing her eyes. The alcohol didn't do much to her at this point. She had been drowning herself in poison for so long she became immune.
As soon as she flicked the cigarette bud away she felt her eye flutter shut.
"Not now." She mumbled, falling into oblivion.
———
"Can't sleep?" The little girl flung the sheets off her, staring with heavy lids at her twin. her long (color) hair cascaded down her back as she walked.
"Yeah." She said, pouting. He rolled his eyes, causing her to stick her tongue out.
"Nightmares?" He asked, making her shake her head. He cocked his head, questioning the answer. She stood, her tiny feet paddling against the ground as she made her way over to him.
She crawled into his bed, laying so her feet were where his head was.
"I dreamt you left me." She whispered, eyes glistening. He listened quietly,
"I don't want to be alone Five."
"I would never leave you." He said honestly, looking toward the other five year old.
"It's probably a nightmare."
"I don't get nightmares. Your going to leave me. I dreamt it, Five, and you know about my dreams." She insisted, tears trailing down her cheeks. Her voice was shaken, along with quick and frantic words. He smiled, holding out his pinky. She looked at it for a moment, before locking her own to his.
"I promise I'd never. You go where I do. Ok?" He reassured, making her smile. She leaned over and hugged him tightly.
"Ok, I trust you."
———
When she opened her eyes once more, she was no longer on the roof.
"I took you down, the party's over." A voice said, causing her to harshly turn her head. Standing there was a man with dark curly brown locks. He turned, and met her (color) eyes with a bright green.
"Yeah..." She said, looking down. She was still in her clothe from the night before, her heels next to her. She was sat in a bed. The sun creeped through the broken blinds, casting odd shapes onto the floor.
"Everyone left, you didn't wake up though." He laughed,
"Like a rock."
"Yeah." She said, laughing forced. She rubbed her head and threw her feet over the edge.
"Here," He said, handing her two Advil and a glass of water.
"I slept on the couch by the way."
"Thanks." She said, smiling at the slightly awkward man. He was at least six feet tall, which added to his awkward stance. He had kind eyes through, and seemed to have good intentions along with it.
"Your almost as tall as my brother. Not quite though." She commented, downing the Advil. He raised an eyebrow.
"Really? Never met anyone much taller than me." He joked, smiling goofily at her.
"Yeah, you never met Luther though." She said, pulling another cigarette out of seemingly no where. God, she could never escape them could she. Even she herself found their names constantly escaping her mouth.
"Id like to see this Luther then." He said, turning to sit on the folding chair near the bed. It was her turn to raise an eyebrow.
"Yeah, well you can't for a while. He's stationed on the moon." She added, cigarette hanging out of her mouth. He laughed, before cutting it short with sight of her static expression.
"Your not joking." He stated, watching her fall back onto the mattress and close her eyes once more. Much like the night before, except this time she didn’t bang her head.
"Nope." She continued, rubbing her temples in attempt to rid the hangover out of her head.
"Wow. A mystery." He stated, hearing her flat laugh sound. It sounded sarcastic, but she could tell he was genuinely interested.
"Why are you still in here?" She asked almost mockingly. He instantly got awkward again, standing and knocking the chair over, and shuffling to pick it up.
"S-sorry! I can leave if you want!" He said, cheeks pink. She sat back up, meeting his forest green eyes once more.
"I'm (Name)." She said, holding a polished hand out. He smiled, rubbing the back of his neck as he walked over.
"I'm Brian." He said, shaking her hand. She stood, picking her heels up as she walked out of the room, Brain closely trailing behind.
"This place is trashed." She laughed, seeing the disaster left in his lake house from the party,
"You live here?" She asked, walking to the fridge.
"No actually, this is my uncles place. It was my buddy's birthday yesterday and I let him use it." He answered, watching the girl shuffle through his fridge. She settled with a box of cereal,
"Some buddy he is." She said through a mouthful of lucky charms,
"Also, who puts cereal in the fridge."
"Making yourself at home?" He mumbled as she jumped up on the counter, causing multiple beer cans to fall to the floor.
"Yeah, well consider it payment for me helping you clean the place up." She said, throwing cereal at his chest. He looked taken aback for a moment, narrowing his eyes at the girl wearing a wrinkled party dress.
"Yeah, why not. Don't have much else to do." She added, voice trailing off as she looked down toward the floor.

Luther x Reader (curtain calls)
Tumblr media
———
“Wait for me.”
His own voice seemed to echo throughout his room. It was like a ghost, voice breathy and distant. He knew she wasn’t there, but the words stuck to him and refused to let go. He could recall saying them, her soft nod as she pressed a kiss on his cheek.
Finally, he was back. He had been gone for so long, and everything in his room was covered in a layer of dust. However, the room seemed to taunt him. The memory of her smile seemed to float around the room.
“Luther,” She said, running her hand softly over his cheek. He nodded expectantly, waiting to see what she had to say.
“I’m leaving soon. Don’t forget me, please?” She asked, so soft. It was as if she didn’t care, but he knew better.
He ran his fingers over the record player, the piles of albrums they would listen to together stacked. It left behind a trail in the dust, the shape of his fingers.
———
“I love you more than anything, but if I stay in this house any longer-“ she stopped, her breath hitching as she stood, taking airy steps towards his record player.
“I’m leaving tonight. Either way.” She said, placing a song in. It began to play, letting her breezily dance around the room. He watched, his hands clamped in his lap. They were but teenagers, oblivious.
He knew however, she was going to skip through his fingers.
That night, she slept next to him. And by the morning, she was gone. Just as she had said.
———
“Still thinking of me.”
The voice seemed to break his concentration. He turned, seeing the same woman standing by his door.
He opened his mouth to speak, and shut it again. In his gaping she brushed past him, placing the needle onto the vinyl.
He turned, placing a hand on her waist as she looked down at the record turning. She had been dressed in black, for the occasion. However he knew better than that, she could care less about their fathers death.
“You came back. You always do.” He said, seeing the reflection of her smile on the mirror above the record player. She hadn’t aged a day since all those years ago. He hadn’t expected her to.
“I never break promises. I left you, you left me. It’s only logic we were to meet again.” She whispered, although shrugged as if it didn’t mean a thing to her. He closed his eyes, turning her around. He placed his hands on her face, as if to make sure she was there.
“You’ve changed,” she commented, looking up at him. He let out a dry laugh,
“You haven’t.”
She slipped out of his grasp, moving toward the bed. He watched as she sat, running her hand over the covers.
“Are you going to leave again?” He asked the woman, who ignored him and continued to observe her surroundings.
However, her silence spoke a million words.
“(Name).”
She looked at him worh half lidded eyes, a small smile on her features.
“I love you.” He said, moving closer, knowing she could vanish any second. It’s what she did, dissipate into thin air. Like a magic trick. Except for him it was anything but amusing.
“I-“ she stopped, eyes not meeting his. He watched her with grief stricken eyes.
“I can’t loose you again.” He said, taking another step. She looked up and flickered in and out of visibility. He remembered the argument with Alison all those years before. How he could never forget the breath taking woman who left.
“I know you love me back. You wouldn’t be here if you didn’t.” He said, holding his hand out. She stood, evading his hand in a swift moment.
“Dear, this was just the curtain call. My final bow to this foresaken building.” She said, watching him turn to face her. He listened, waiting for her to vanish again.
She walked up to him, placing a kiss on his cheek. She has did last time, and the time before.
“I’m afraid this is my last goodbye.” She said, stopping back.
And with that, she took a large bow, and vanished into nothing.
