So, they met kind of on a whim.

Moriah had just joined the tribe and wanted to get to know the other magical folk. She met Coricopat first, who introduced her to Tantomile. For Mo, it was love at first sight. She was enamored by Tanto’s elegance, and got a dopey grin as she clumsily introduced herself.

Tantomile was a bit less impressed at first. Another magical cat was fine, but even she was a bit concerned that Moriah could predict the future, and usually tragic futures at that.

Then they really got to know each other. Moriah needed help dealing with the enormous burden she carried, and relied on the twins’ wisdom to help her through it a bit. Tantomile was curious enough eventually to watch Moriah paint, and she started to understand her more. Moriah loved to paint, but she was terrified to accidentally predict something horrible.

They spent more and more time together, Moriah teaching Tantomile how to paint and Tanto helping Moriah with her fears. Eventually it was very clear to everyone else that they were basically courting each other.

Then the ball comes around, and nobody has any idea who’s supposed to do the Pas De Deux. Then, the moon shines in the clearing, and Moriah and Tantomile seem to glisten under the moonlight as they dance together. They had been courting each other, but Moriah predicted they’d fully fall in love a long while later and Tantomile was already emotionally enamored with her so they decided to just skip to the actual mating.

They are very domestic while also mystical. Their den is decorated with a lot of paintings and shiny things, their nest is a big pile of pretty fabrics and feathers. They have dinner with Coricopat every other night (he lives next door). They have a little shop where they give mystical advice, just witchy lesbian cats 😊.

Some years later, they have kittens!

Tantomile gives birth (Moriah is Transfem, so they’re biologically theirs) to twins: A queen named Philomena and a tom named Malachite.

Philomena is owned by a Gravedigger, and she can speak to the dead. What’s odd about it is that she mainly speaks to dead humans. She’s more cynical and dark, though very close to her mothers and brother.

Malachite’s owner makes potions and such, and he likes to kinda just stare at the jars- He takes a lot more after Moriah, and is more cheery and comical. He gets along well with his Uncle Cori, they’re both magical but goofballs.

JUSTIFICATIONS UNDER THE CUT

i wanted the kittens to be furby babies for obvious reasons. they are so small

the adults are standard furbies and all the song cats (minus the OLLDDDD elders) are special edition/prize furbies

aforementioned elders are 2005 furbies. i love those things

i chose mostly off vibes. colors, cool features, names, gimmicks that matched--some are closer to their replica costumes and others are just. my desire for batshit colorful nonrep designs

omg i absolutly adore all your tantoteazer art/post/headcanons/just everything

the moment i saw the musical i came out obsessed with those two and your blog just feeds my obssesion so ty for that ive been wanting to write a fic about those two (since there are basically none out there) so i wanted to ask if you have any tips for characterizing them (i wanna make sure that i get them right and you seemed like the best person to ask)

Okay literally Tantoteazer has become one of my favorite ships out of any fandom so first of all *thank you* for one of the most flattering asks I've ever gotten ggjdkfksjfdj

Second of all I wouldn't worry too much about characterization when it comes to Cats--don't stray too far from the three personality words and you're golden. Cats is the first piece of media I'd ever written fanfic for because the characters are all so vague and up to interpretation that I was not intimidated by the prospect of having people act out of character. I would encourage you to think about what personally draws you to Tantomile and Rumpleteazer and go from there!

Like for me, a lot of the interest comes from Comparing and Contrasting.

Tantomile is more reserved, thoughtful, and introverted and Rumpleteazer is more loud, spontaneous, and energetic.

But both cats are part of a duo wherein they are both nearly identical in appearance and behavior, and their "other half" is deeply intrinsic to their identities.

And I love the idea that they'd be fascinated by eachother--someone so very different than them, and yet at the same time still relatable. And I think you always learn more about yourself when you hang out with people different than you, so I think the two of them spending time together gives them a stronger sense of self and identity outside of their male counterparts.

Also I think Witch GF and Criminal GF is rife with comedic potential like holy shit the bits and schemes they could pull off

Sorry this took so long, just school. I think answering all of these will take a long time lets just be honest. But I'll try to work with these whenever I can. ALSO, there might be spelling and grammar mistakes because english is not my first language.

My thoughts and feelings for the twins were like nonexistent when I first got into cats, but after seeing the international tour in november they just shot right up into my top ten. Espessially Tantomile as she was the green eyes that went by me when the show started and was like 4 meters from me during the naming of cats and Mister Mistoffelees (and I swear we had a special moment during the naming of cats cuz we 100% made eye contact and right after that she reached her paw out, TO ME, but sadly there were two people in our way...)

Eh, so with that being said, here are my headcanons for everyones favorite mystical twins!

Headcanons:

Tantomile and Coricopat share the same spirit so if one of them becomes the Jellicle choice, they are both chosen.

Although the spirit is the same, the cats are not. Coricopat is much more um... dumb. It's not the right word but the only one I can think of. Like he's just.. he's there, having fun. While Tantomile is definitely the older and more mature of the two. Their reactions during the Mistoffelees number is the best explanation I can give. Just look at them.

When it comes to their powers they are both very strong with their psychic energy but again Tantomile is just keeping a little secret about her more cryptic side. The only other cat to know about her other side is of course her other half. They are like ying and yang kinda, but not really. Again, this thing with putting my thought into words. Either way, more on that later.

Random but Coricopat loves butterflies.

Backstory:

Now my usual backstory for these two is that they lived with a real witch and that they found the junkyard and the Jellicles thanks to their powers. Quite simple.

But, today I read through the Cats wiki just for fun and stumbled across the hc that Tantomile and Coricopat are Macavitys children. And I just died right then and there.

Is it in my main headcanons for Cats? No... But it sure as hell has it's own little world in my brain now. Just, stop and think about it for a minute and perhaps join me on the floor while I scream about the potential angst.

Family:

This goes without saying but, they're twins.

While they don't really have a real parents, unless you wanna go the Macavity route, Munkustrap has an extreme soft spot for them. So Munkustrap is their unofficial dad even though they are just a few years younger then him.

Pairings:

*Slams my hands on the table* CORICOPAT AND FRICKING MUNGOJERRIE ARE THE MOST ADORABLE DORKS YOU WILL EVER SEE!!!

Also love the rarepair of Tantomile and Demeter. Them just laying in Demeters pipe cuddling *chef kiss*

Personality:

Coricopat is a dork, an adorable dork, and I love him. He gets easily distracted, especially when Mungojerrie is within his psychic range.

Tantomile has a calm presence, even when some cats gets weirded out by the twins. Something she hides extremely well however is her cryptic side. Let's just say it's very much the opposite of the Tantomile we all know and love.

Plotbunnies:

Oh I loooove this one!

So Macavity is obsessed with magical cats right.. so he kidnaps Coricopat, ya know as you do. The thing is, Tantomile is of course not okay with that.. so um, she ya know. Goes all cryptic and ballistic on Macavitys ass and saves her brother.

Yea, that one has been stuck in my brain for the longest of time and I love it so much.

Food:

Oh uh yeah, they don't eat. Might be a weird hc but it's mine.

Human home:

They primarily live in the junkyard but they do have their little witch hut together with their old little witch lady. It's quite small but it's perfect for the three of them. There is a bunch of pillows and blankest all over the place just for the twins. And there is a lot of purple.

Yessss, absolutely! T.S. Eliot came up with the name Tantomile specifically as a name for a witch's cat! And along with Coricopat, you also get the twin connection, the twin cats Coricopat and Tantomile and the human twins Pietro and Wanda. It's practically meant to be! (Can be really angsty too depending on how much we follow MCU canon 🥺)

The entire village assumed that Ms. Grenaway was a witch, and this amused Tantomile to no end.  Her mistress was the most painfully mundane, non-magical human she had ever met in this current life, with almost childishly dull eyes bereft of any glimpses of far-off cosmos or primordial sea, a voice that trembled with the age of a single lifetime, thoughts you could only sense if she spoke them aloud, and hands that only warmed if she held them over the stove too long.  There was no hint of the spark, the little simmer of two charged souls recognizing each other, that she felt every time Mistoffelees or Hathor or little Jemima came to visit, and of course none of the resonance she felt with Coricopat.  In fact, what she could see of the old woman’s soul was the same limp, watery color as any other human.  This wasn’t necessarily a bad thing in Tanto’s eyes.  It didn’t cancel out her excellent palate for chicken and seafood, her valiant attempts at conversation (humans didn’t have the tongue for it, bless them, but the effort was appreciated), and her lovely home with plenty of sunny patches and cozy dark crannies.  It simply was--she no more expected magic from any human than she expected wings from any cow.

However, according to most humans, there was something odd about an unmarried, rather reclusive woman living off the beaten path in an old house with a sprawling, “overgrown” garden (and multiple cats, no less!).  That, too, might have been a neutral statement, but different humans had different feelings on the matter.  Adults, Tanto noticed, tended to be a lot more tentative.  She heard quite a few whispers past the front gate about how “unnatural” it was, about how “a woman her age really ought to have settled down”... a ridiculous notion on its face.  She’d like to hear someone tell Hathor she ought to drop her current life and find a mate just for the sake of having one.  Many of the women commented how “sad” and “terribly lonely” Ms. Grenaway must be, as if she didn’t enjoy the company of her cats and her roommate, dear Mr. Lewis, perfectly well or find any contentment in her work.  Even the humans who came to buy her herbal remedies treated it like something unsavory.  It couldn’t be simpler in Tanto’s eyes–ginkgo for the heart, elderberry for the head and lungs, St. John’s Wort for sleep, turmeric for pain, and parsley for the blood and liver.  No different than what she would give any of the Junkyard cats who came looking for healing (the rosemary for grey hair was quite another matter, and she resolved to study those effects a little closer to settle her skepticism).  But so many humans held their newly-sold bottles and boxes like they were bombs about to go off.  For all their head-shaking and finger-waggling about “superstition” and “unscientific nonsense”, they were certainly willing to give a great deal of money away, only to treat a handful of herbs like something sinister.  Tanto couldn’t understand it and didn’t feel any great urge to waste her time trying.

The children, on the other paw… children had a very different reaction.  Tanto noticed that their whispers about Ms. Grenaway’s so-called “powers” came with a hint of excitement, the same kind she’d hear from the kittens telling each other stories on the rubbish piles.  One boy had insisted that she never married because she turned all her prospective husbands to toads for this or that offense, which gave Tanto a good chuckle at the mental image.  A pair of sisters assumed the house was haunted and assigned her far greater abilities as a medium than she had in reality.  And one imaginative little chap wondered where she kept her familiar, which they imagined to be a little devil or dragon that rode around on her shoulder.  Sometimes they would flock together at the very end of the path or, if they were feeling bold, right up next to the front gate, hoping to catch a glimpse.  And sometimes, if she had some free time and felt a more whimsical mood overtake her, Ms. Grenaway would invite them in for tea.  She’d brew up enough chamomile and lavender and bake enough fruit cobbler to feed Jennyanydots’ entire class and sit the little ones down in the kitchen, answering questions and spinning yarns Gus would be proud of and letting them look at all her stock as they lay drying.  There were always a few who took a genuine interest in what all the herbs and flowers did, and Tanto would drape herself around her human’s neck like a scarf as she gave an explanation.  And those same few she could always rely on to give exemplary chin and ear scratches.  If only they knew, if only she could tell them where the true magic of the house came from…

At the very least, she mused, she would have no shortage of stories for Coricopat later.

Cats The Musical Headcanon:

This headcanon is mostly about Alonzo but it does include some of the other Jellicles.

Alonzo is the son of Bustopher Jones' sister, along with Mistoffelees, Victoria, Coricopat and Tantomile. Making Bustopher Jones their uncle. Alonzo, Mistoffelees and Victoria share the same dad. Coricopat and Tantomile share the same dad. They have different dads but the same mother. Alonzo, Coricopat and Tantomile were born in the same litter. When their mother died, Mistoffelees and Victoria were adopted by different owners, and Coricopat and Tantomile were adopted by a witch. Alonzo was the only one that wasn't adopted by a human, therefore making him an alley cat. Bustopher Jones refuses to see him as family due to him being a scrappy alley cat. Bustopher Jones also doesn't see Coriopat and Tantomile as family due to their owner being a witch and them being cats with powers that could be used for evil. He sees them both as devil cats. However, he sees Mistoffelees and Victoria as his niece and nephew due to them being adopted into wealthy families. He also sees Mistoffelees' magic as "harmless fun". Alonzo and Victoria are the only two out of all their siblings that do not have magical powers.

Alonzo was then found by Asparagus Jr. and Jellylorum when he was either a kitten or a teen. They adopted him, however Alonzo wanted to remain an alley cat, due to him being used to it and seeing the streets as his home.

Asparagus Jr. and Jellylorum also adopted Plato and George. Etcetera, Pouncival and Tumblebrutus are their biological kids.

Bombalurina and Demeter are like Alonzo's sisters. Cassandra is his mate. Macavity was like his brother before he turned evil and was kicked out of the tribe. Munkustrap and Tugger are like his brothers. Old Deuteronomy is like his uncle. Skimbleshanks and Jennyanydots are like his uncle and aunt.

This is my headcanon and obviously other people can have different opinions. Let me know what you think, I find it interesting to read other peoples’ headcanons.

(Plus I have no friends to talk to about Cats the Musical cause no one I know likes it).

Asparagus Jr. - he just straight up dresses up as his dad

Munkustrap and Demeter - Han Solo and Princess Leia

Bombalurina - Bomba half-ironically goes as a sexy version of a not-considered-sexy character or similar. Sexy Darth Vader was a hit.

Cassandra - she goes as a cute lil witch with an elaborate, homemade costume. Everyone jokes that "Cassandra, are you really just going as yourself?"

Old Deuteronomy - Santa.

Etcetera - definitely a princess. Probably some sort of candy princess. She looks adorable and everybody can't help but smile at how cute she is.

Electra - Hermione Granger. She only speaks in Hermione quotes all night yet somehow is still able to be understood and talked to. Gets Misto to make it look like she's doing magic.

Gus and Jellylorum - they go as growltiger and griddlebone every year and do a scene for the kittens :)

Jennyanydots - dresses up as a mouse and dresses her mice up like cats in little hoods with ears she crocheted them.

Jemima - she goes as a tiny ninja and stabs people with her plastic knife and runs away giggling all night

Mungojerrie and Rumpleteazer - legally have to have their costumes match. They've been Jessie and James, Link and Zelda, Bonnie and Clyde, each other, and also once Teazer stayed on Jerrie's shoulders the entire night while they wore a really long trench coat to be a really tall guy.

Pouncival - has a really elaborate robot costume that he wears every halloween and keeps adding onto it throughout the year so it's even more detailed and extreme every time

Tugger - Knight. He's the one who told Jemima to stab people with her little plastic knife and showed her how with his plastic sword.

Misto - The Phantom of The Opera, complete with brooding monologues, standing somewhere up high for no reason, and magic.

Tantomile and Coricopat - didn't want to come but Cassandra made them. She also dressed them up as bats, which they begrudgingly allowed. They sit in the corner doing some kind of ritual all night lmao

Tumblebrutus - spiderman, so he has yet another excuse to show off his acrobatics. Also because it's cool as fuck.

Bustopher Jones - also Santa.

Skimbleshanks - the candelabra from Beauty and The Beast and he runs arouns singing Be Our Guest all night.

Victoria - lets Etcetera dress her up as a Princess too, but secretly likes it.

Plato - coincidentally, goes as a Prince.

Tantomile and Coricopat

I've never given much thought to Tanto and Cori...where they came from, if they're related to anyone else in the 'Yard, if they have Humans or not...

But this is what I've come up with, after much consideration:

I think that Tantomile and Coricopat came to the Junkyard as adults. They were raised in an abusive Human's home, and the only other cats they had contact with were The Everlasting and an old, sour Queen who treated them as poorly as the Humans did. Most of the time, they were too afraid to speak for fear of bringing attention to themselves, so they used their telepathic powers to communicate silently with each other.

Even though they've been with the Tribe for a couple years, Tanto and Cori are still rather awkward around the others. They have shared thoughts for the longest time that they almost forget who says what, and they're still rather mystified by the openness of the Jellicles. Not to mention that they still have much to discuss, having been witches' cats in a past life.

1. Egypt. She loves her homeland dearly and hopes that if she's ever reborn its in Egypt.

2. Absolutely. Honey anything is her favorite.

4. MaliTart had just broken out of the science lab and was wandering around wounded and aimless until they eventually ended up on Jellicle territory, Lizadora was the one to find them.

5. Very close. They like to joke together and Cori was the one who gave Moriah a blessing to court Tantomile.

6. Tugger thinks that Dragonsnapper needs to chill and just have fun.

7. Bomba is pretty close to Noxebris, mainly because when Tugger isn't around she gossips w him.

I understand that the popular headcanon is that Jennyanydots is the Jellicle's doctor or healer or what have you. But yall are missing out on the comedic potential for Coricopat and Tantomile being the healers.

Like I personally find it more believable that they depend on Cori and Tanto's metaphysical healing (with crystals and herbs and spiritual wellness) rather than like, scientifically based medicine

one of the most famous stories is of the mouthless cat. a cat who stole the soul of a other cat and was cursed to live forever without a mouth. they say he steal the souls of every cat who look in his eyes

gus love to tell the urban legend of a arrogant actor who got angery when he didn't get a part in a theater production and burn it turn. now his ghost is forever hunted by the ghosts of his victims

oh and what about the story of the friendly witch who is said to walk around the city of londen to help every cat in need. for some reason coricopat and tantomile smile when they heard the story.

yes the jellicles love their urban legends. they like to come togeter and tell them.
