Busting Common Skincare Myths: What Truly Works and What Doesn't
In the pursuit of radiant and flawless skin, it's easy to get lost in a maze of skincare myths and misconceptions. From homemade remedies to supposed miracle products, the beauty industry can sometimes leave us bewildered. Let's dive into some prevalent skincare myths, setting the record straight on what's effective and what's not.
Myth: The More, the Merrier
Reality: Layering multiple products may seem enticing, but quality trumps quantity. Overloading your skin can lead to irritation and clogged pores. A personalized routine catering to your skin type - including a cleanser, moisturizer, sunscreen, and targeted treatment if necessary - is the way to go.
Myth: Natural Means Safe
Reality: Just because something is labeled "natural" doesn't guarantee it's safe for all skin types. Allergies and reactions can still occur. It's crucial to read labels, patch-test, and consult a dermatologist before incorporating new products.
Myth: Pores Open and Close
Reality: You might have heard that steam opens pores while cold water closes them. In truth, pores lack muscles, so they can't change shape. Steam can temporarily soften debris, but a solid cleansing routine and exfoliation work better for maintaining clear pores.
Myth: Oily Skin Rejects Moisturizers
Reality: Hydration benefits all skin types, including oily ones. Skipping moisturizer can lead to increased oil production. Opt for a lightweight, oil-free moisturizer to maintain balance without causing breakouts.
Myth: Sunscreen Is for Sunny Days Only
Reality: Sunscreen is a must, no matter the weather. Harmful UV rays are present even on cloudy days and can penetrate windows. Consistent broad-spectrum sunscreen application safeguards your skin from premature aging and damage.
Best sunscreens EVER:
La Roche-Posay Anthelios Melt-in Milk Body & Face Sunscreen
LIVE TINTED Hueguard Invisible Sunscreen Stick SPF 50
Neutrogena Invisible Daily Defense Face Sunscreen + Hydrating Serum with Broad Spectrum SPF 60+
Myth: Exfoliating Daily for Perfection
Reality: Exfoliation aids in cell turnover, but excess can cause irritation. 2-3 times a week with a gentle exfoliant is sufficient for a smoother complexion without harming your skin's barrier.
Amazing Facial Exfoliants:
Dermalogica Daily Microfoliant - Exfoliator Facial Scrub Powder
TULA Skin Care So Poreless Exfoliating Blackhead Scrub
M-61 PowerGlow® Peel- 30 Treatments
Myth: Moisturizers and Oils Aggravate Acne
Reality: Acne-prone skin thrives with hydration. Seek non-comedogenic, oil-free options. Some oils, like jojoba or rosehip, can even regulate sebum and enhance skin appearance.
Moisturizers I personally love:
Paula’s Choice C5 Super Boost Moisturizer with 5% Vitamin C
e.l.f. SKIN Holy Hydration!
CeraVe Moisturizing Cream | Body and Face
TATCHA The Dewy Skin Cream
In conclusion, navigating through the world of skincare requires discerning fact from fiction. An informed approach, coupled with a streamlined routine, is the key to glowing skin. When in doubt, a dermatologist's guidance can be invaluable on your skincare journey. Remember, debunking skincare myths is an essential stride towards achieving your skin's best version.

my extensive skincare routine for healthy, glowing skin 🪄🌟
Tumblr media
morning 🌷
-first i wash my face with tatcha’s “the rice wash” as i like to start the day with a gentle cleanser
-if i am going out that day, i always make sure to apply my soopergoop play sunscreen
benefits of sunscreen: reduce the signs of aging, as it prevents the early onset of wrinkles and fine lines. reduce the risk of skin cancer, avoid inflammation, etc.
-next i apply the tatcha dewy skin cream, this product does wonders for glowy & soft skin!
-my next step is the yttp 15% vitamin c + clean caffeine energy serum.
vitamin c helps to brighten skin tone, act as an anti-inflammatory, boots collagen, diminish scars, lighten dark spots, etc. caffeine helps to reduce inflammation & puffiness, and tighten/brighten skin.
-as an added hydration for skin i use leneige’s water bank hydro essence serum, helps soooo much with skin hydration & moisture.
-my last step in my morning skincare is the ordinary’s hyaluronic acid. hyaluronic acid promotes healthier skin, it naturally occurs in the body & getting that extra boost can help so much with attracting & holding onto moisture.
night 🌙
first i mix the inkey lists salicylic acid cleanser & the dermalogica clearing skin wash to reduce & fight off acne.
-next step is the glow recipe’s watermelon glow pha + bha pore tight toner. this has definitely helped with giving me the glowy, hydrated look while also reducing the appearance of pores.
-next i reapply the laneige water bank hydro essence serum & the tatcha glow recipe
-i also reapply the ordinary’s hyaluronic acid, this time directly before my gua sha routine to give my skin a slippery, hydrated base. here is a link to the video i use for the gua sha routine 🤍
https://youtu.be/veTVPpRb9XE
-a few times a week i will do my slugging routine, slugging is applying a petroleum jelly (vaseline, aquaphor, i use aquaphor) to your skin overnight for moisturized, glowing skin. slugging works by preventing trans epidural water loss so the skin barrier is protected.
aaaand that’s all 💌

NYDG Skincare Colloidal Oatmeal Cleanser ($48-sold out). Tatcha Luminous Dewy Skin Mist ($48). In the description box for the video, Vogue did not provide a link for this item most likely because Natalia never showed the product. However, as a teenager who used to binge watch makeup videos back in 2016, the cap and nozzle of the bottle looks like this Tatcha one. I can’t be too certain that this is the exact one so please be cautious if you want to try out this product because Natalia might have used it.
Tumblr media
Alastin Restorative Skin Complex ($199). La Roche-Posay Toleriane Double Repair Face Moisturizer ($19.99). Zo Skin Health Rozatrol ($91).
Tumblr media
Possibly using FaceGym Multi-Sculpt High-Performance Gua Sha ($60).
ISDIN Eryfotona Actinica SPF 50 ($60).
Shiseido Benefiance Wrinkle Smoothing Eye Cream ($64).  Again, this product was not listed in the description box probably because of Natalia not showing the product properly but it seems this is the eye cream she is using.

Tarte Maracuja Oil ($48).
Tarte The Buffer Airbrush Foundation Brush ($34).
Tumblr media
Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Definer Pencil with Spoolie ($23).

Tumblr media
Covergirl Professional Remarkable Mascara ($5.28).
Olio E Osso Lip & Cheek Tinted Balm ($28). In the video, she uses this as a blush and lip balm. Also, the color she is using isn’t specified but she might be using the Crimson color.

On Sunday, Hollywood celebrated one of its glitziest and most glamorous nights, a night that is literally golden in name. Yep, we’re talking the Golden Globes.
One of the biggest standouts was Darren Criss, who took home one of the night’s top awards for his portrayal of Andrew Cunanan in “American Crime Story: The Assassination of Gianni Versace.” While he looked every bit the winner in his sparkly floral Dior Homme dinner jacket that shined, it was his skin that made us quiver. With its beautiful dew, naturally hydrated look, he looked both healthy and sexy.
The credit, at least when it comes to his hair and skin, can be given to his groomer Kindra Mann, who used something unexpected to give Criss his golden glow. The skin routine she used? Entirely from British makeup artist Charlotte Tilbury‘s eponymous brand (one that also just won a Lightning Award!).
Most of us, especially Very Good Light readers, know that compartmentalizing products by gender is old-fashioned and just plain boring. And we’re glad – and delightfully surprised! – to know that Darren went with this beauty brand to get that dewy glow for the night. To get into award-winning shape, we spoke to Kindra to get all the tea about how she keeps Darren looking so flawless on and off the red carpet.
Very Good Light: Lots of Charlotte Tilbury’s products are geared to women, so is it different using them on a man?
Kindra Mann: I think there are certain products in Charlotte’s line that can cater more toward a man’s skincare. Men and women vary on how much product they want on their skin, but I think that the great thing about some of the products is that they can be for both. Like the Unisex Healthy Glow: It just gives a super soft tint that warms up the skin and doesn’t look like anything’s on it. It’s the same with the Light Wonder Foundation.
At the end of the day, men still want to look good and feel confident but they don’t always want anyone to know that they have anything on, so products that deliver results and give those benefits are really valuable.
VGL: What did you use on Darren for the Golden Globes?
KM: I started with the Magic Cream and the Magic Eye Rescue Cream which was great since he just go back from traveling from where it was cold. I love that moisturizer. I put it on everyone’s skin. you never have to worry about it reacting and it’s great for sensitive skin. Then I used some of the Unisex Healthy Glow to warm it up. After that I went in with the Magic Awake concealer a little bit under his eyes. At the end I used a little bit of the Light Wonder Foundation in Number 5 to sheer everything out a little bit more.
I used the Loose Powder to set it and act as an extra layer to combat shine since there were going to be a lot of lights and it was going to be hot on the carpet. Then I went in with the Airbrush Flawless Finish powder in Number 2 because those powders are like a magic eraser. Whenever I put that on anyone, it creates an airbrushed look without looking heavy. I also sometimes use the Number 3 powder on men as a bronzer because it’s matte. It’s a great trick for men because it’s only a little bit darker.
Oh! And I groomed his brows with the Legendary Brows gel.
VGL: Of course this routine was for a red carpet, but is it something you could wear every day?
KM: Yes! The only big difference is that on a red carpet you have to watch out for shine more. You have to make things more matte in the beginning so they can stand up to the longevity of the carpet. So you would just put a little more powder than you normally would for every day. Even if it’s every day, I’d want it to look as natural as possible.
VGL: Do you have to use certain products differently because he has facial hair?
KM: You have to navigate and work around the beard area differently depending on how long it is. If the product is light enough, you can still use it in the beard area and it’s fine. Treat the skin on the face and beard the same. There’s nothing wrong with using Magic Cream on your face and working any leftover product down into the beard to condition it.
You definitely want to stay away from powder on the beard or applying any foundation in that area because it will change the color of the beard and it will look heavy. It’s more about working it into the line where it’s growing. When it’s short, I do lightly dust a little powder around it. You want to make sure there’s no razor burn or stray hairs. You want to make sure you cover everything.
I love Legendary Brows for the beard area. If someone is missing some hair or their facial hair isn’t super even or for some guys whose facial hair grows in different colors, the brow gel is a really great way to even it all out. It doesn’t run and it stays in place. It looks really light, so you can’t tell it’s there.
VGL: His hair looked great! What did you use?
KM: On the red carpet, guys with curly hair can sometimes look too shellacked or shiny and gels and heavier products can give too much of a wet look. His hair looked pretty good when he sat down, so I didn’t use a lot. I used the Oribe Flash Form Finishing Spray and it was awesome. I applied a little bit of that and worked my hands in so the curl wouldn’t get too frizzy over time. Then I used a little bit of the Oribe Superfine hairspray to finish it.
VGL: Wow, that’s it? KM: The one thing about guys is that they know how to do their hair better than anyone else. Depending on their hair cut, they know where they like pieces to fall and things like that. Even if i do a structured style on a guy, I always tell them to feel free to mess with it if they want so it gets to where they want it to look.
With Darren, I make sure nothing needs to be cleaned up on the back of the neck. I use a comb to lay it all in place and then go through and make sure there’s not seperation or gaps in it. Dark curly hair on men can tend to get piecey and you can see more of their scalp in places. I spray some down with the hairspray afterward as a precautionary measure to make sure it stays in place.
VGL: What other products to you like for curly hair like Darren’s? KM: I love the old fashioned Tancho Lavender Stick for the back of the head. You can’t have long curly hair because that stick is too heavy. So if the hair is curly but short, I’ll use that to tame down any curls that may be out of place. I like the Leonor Greyl Eclat Naturel Styling Creamto help define curl. I don’t like a too-wet look and the styling cream is a nice light product so you can still move your fingers through your hair and it’s not hard.
VGL: What’s in the go bag you give to your male clients? KM: I try to give my clients as much preparation beforehand, but I do give them a little bag to take with them. Depending on how long the night is going to be, I’ll do a pressed powder and a brush to powder the forehead and t-zone area. I’ll als send guys with blotting papers (I love the Tatcha ones), individual packs of Tylenol, a flosser, a couple pieces of double stick tape and a lip balm.

Test Drives: Tatcha, IT Cosmetics & Sephora Collection
Tumblr media
It’s been a bit since I’ve written a Test Drives article! So, let’s kick off March with a few great finds that I made in the last few weeks. I’m always on the hunt for great dupes, must have moisturizers and effective foundations, and that’s exactly what I’m covering in today’s post. I’ll be reviewing Tatcha’s Luminous Dewy Skin Mist, IT Cosmetics’ newest release Confidence in a Foundation, and Sephora Collection’s Golden Hour highlight. As usual, I’ll outline whether an item was purchased or gifted. So let’s get to it!
Tumblr media
Tatcha Dewy Skin Mist (purchased)
I picked up this travel friendly version at Sephora while I was in San Francisco because I felt like my skin was getting dry while I was out one day. The premise is that this can help to instantly infuse the skin with moisture thanks to the mist’s natural botanical ingredients. To use, simply shake the bottle, hold it two to three inches from your face and mist. This can be used under makeup or as a refresh throughout the day.
What I liked
This is a truly hydrating spray which evaporates fairly quickly. That’s not to say that you don’t get the moisturizing benefits. It’s more like saying it doesn’t take forever for the mist to absorb into the skin. While this mist has a more natural/essential oil style scent, it’s not offensive. Of course, the small size makes this ideal for traveling.
What could be better
This isn’t so much a complaint as an honest observation. Most people who review this product rave about how it instantly improves the condition of their skin. While I like this product and definitely use it fairly regularly, I can’t say that I get better results using this either as a refresh or pre-makeup step as opposed to some of my other facial mists or even oils that I typically use.
Sephora Collection Golden Hour Highlight in Twilight (purchased)
Tumblr media
This is yet another item I picked up while I was in SF. I can honestly say it was an impulse buy because I saw the purple pan on the gondola and instantly thought it could be a dupe for my personal favorite highlighter, Kevyn Aucoin’s Neo-Limelight in Ibiza.
What I liked
I was right, this is most definitely a dupe for Kevyn Aucoin. In the pic above, you can see that I have two swatches on my wrist. The top swipe is from the upper half of Kevyn Aucoin’s Ibiza pan on the left, and the bottom swipe is from Sephora’s pan on the right. If you say that you can tell a difference on my arm (not in the pan because clearly they look different in the pan), you’re full of it! I’ve always been a fan of Sephora’s powders, and this is no different. This particular highlight is finely milled which means you get minimal fallout. More importantly, you have great color pigmentation with this and don’t need to use a lot of product to get strong color payoff.
And something in particular that I actually prefer with Sephora’s Golden Hour is that the shimmer is uniform rather than an obvious gradient. As much as I love Kevyn Aucoin’s Ibiza, as you see in the pic above, I clearly don’t use the paler half of the pan, mainly because that paler portion can end up making me look frosty. So, technically speaking, half of the pan is wasted on me. In contrast, since Sephora’s version is more uniform, I can use the entire pan—making this a very cost effective product.
What could be better:
Nothing, I really like this product and didn’t find any issues with it.
IT Cosmetics Confidence in a Foundation in Rich Warm (gifted)
Tumblr media
If you followed my IG stories or checked out my IG Beauty Events Highlight, you know that last week I attended IT Cosmetics’ Spring product launch. Those of us who came out went home with a goodie bag full of skincare products and more importantly, a 10-bottle sampling of their newest color cosmetics launch, Confidence in a Foundation, as well as an additional bottle that we received at their shade match station during the event. These 10 shades are considered their most popular hues that testers gravitated towards during the R&D stage.  This particular foundation comes in 48 hues, with plenty of options for darker skin tones. Confidence in a Foundation is meant to be full coverage with a velvet matte finish.
If you notice that I have 12 rather than 11 bottles (10 + 1 for my shade) in this pic, that’s because when I was at the event, the lighting wasn’t the best and I felt like I was falling between shades. So the MUA who helped me test colors sent me home with two shades.
What I like:
I’m really glad that IT has finally come out with a foundation that’s truly accessible for all skin tones. As much as I’ve appreciated some of their other CC creams, their color options were usually fairly limited with only two or three options for the #teambrownskin or #teamdarkskin crowd. Their previous brown hues would always have a bit too much orange or red in them, meaning that I’d have to limit their wear until the summer when I’m tan and can better match the shades. But this time, I have a shade that matches my “late Fall to Spring” shade.
That aside, I also like that even though this is a full coverage it didn’t feel heavy. Full disclosure, I typically avoid full coverage foundations because I don’t need that level of coverage. Normally I find this coverage level to be too intense, like I’m wearing a mask. That definitely wasn’t the case with Confidence in a Foundation. However to make sure that it didn’t feel or look too heavy, I applied the foundation sparingly and blended with a damp brush.
Today wasn’t my first time trying this product as I’ve probably rocked it a time or two before. I’ve currently been wearing it for just about six hours and it’s still wearing fairly well. More importantly, it plays well with other products too. So, if you’re layering via contour or highlight, it doesn’t slide around or fade away throughout the day.
What could be better:
So, as much as I think this product is great, there is one thing that is somewhat questionable to me. IT Cosmetics claims that Confidence in a Foundation offers a velvet matte finish. No. As compared to their Matte CC+ Cream which is a favorite of mine in warmer weather, this is not matte. Even during the time it took for me to apply my makeup (about 15 - 20 min), this foundation never “dried down” to a soft matte finish like the CC cream did. And I applied my foundation first since I wasn’t doing eye shadow today. At 6 hours out right now, I definitely have shine and would need to touch up with my setting powder to mute that sheen. Mind you, I wasn’t doing anything intense today unless you consider driving to LaGuardia to pick up the hubby and going to dinner afterwards a hefty day of activities.
My Verdict:
Honestly, everything was a winner for me this time. While I did question a few of the claims of Tatcha’s Luminous Dewy Skin Mist and IT Cosmetics’ Confidence in a Foundation, they’re both still great products that I would use.
Check out more of my Test Drives here.

19 beauty products that are worth the money
New Post has been published on https://tattlepress.com/latest/19-beauty-products-that-are-worth-the-money/
19 beauty products that are worth the money
Tumblr media
CNN —
Whether we’re covering expert-recommended beauty tools under $25 or the best Amazon beauty look-alikes under $30, we’re no strangers to the fact that high-quality beauty doesn’t always have to break the bank.
That being said, sometimes a little splurge can make a world of a difference. “Affordable drugstore makeup can be really amazing,” shares London-based makeup artist Jenny Coombs. “But I would definitely invest in high-quality foundations and concealers, considering they’re applied to your entire face.”
Mia Jones, a makeup artist based in New York who’s worked with celebs like Gigi Hadid and Mariah Carey, echoes that sentiment. “Skin care and complexion products are always worth the splurge,” she says. “What you use every day and what comes into direct contact with your skin should be as quality as possible.”
Whether you’re looking to treat yourself to a game-changing skin care tool, gift someone a truly luxurious makeup item or invest in skin care made from only the best ingredients, we’ve rounded up 19 splurge-worthy beauty and skin care goodies for you to choose from. All of these have been recommended by makeup artists, hairstylists and “skinfluencers,” or they’ve been researched and tested by us.
“I love getting microcurrent facials like the one at Joanna Vargas salon,” shares Molly Greenwald, an LA-based makeup artist. She recommends using a handheld device at home to achieve similar results. “They really work in lifting and filling the facial muscles and skin instantly as well as cumulatively over time.”
Greenwald specifically calls out the NuFace Trinity Facial Trainer Device, a microcurrent treatment device that helps to rejuvenate your skin. For a little background on how this actually works, our body’s natural current starts to slow as we age, which leads to many skin concerns associated with aging — like sagging and wrinkles. The microcurrents in this device mimic the natural current of our bodies, which when activated work to tone facial muscles, resulting in bouncier, firmer skin.
Tumblr media
Dermstore
iS Clinical Active Serum
“I don’t know a person that has tried it that isn’t in love with this multibeneficial serum,” shares Greenwald. “It helps with wrinkles, acne and the appearance of pores while also soothing and evening the skin tone.”
While many serums boast specific ingredients that help with specific skin concerns like dullness, acne or dryness, this one is a self-proclaimed “multitasking face serum” with benefits that range from anti-aging to brightening and even acne prevention.

Sephora
Sunday Riley Good Genes Lactic Acid Treatment
This lactic acid treatment from Sunday Riley is a fan favorite and Underscored editor favorite, particularly when it comes to plumping and brightening. Lactic acid is one of the most hydrating alpha hydroxy acids (AHAs), which just means that in addition to exfoliating your skin to reveal a smoother complexion (fighting dead skin cells that lead to a range of skin concerns like bumps, dullness and acne), the active ingredient also moisturizes your skin, keeping it luminous and bouncy.
The addition of licorice as an ingredient (and its associated brightening properties) can enhance your skin’s radiance and lead to the reduction of spots and discoloration, something reviewers love about this treatment. One reviewer writes that “active exfoliants have been dismal because most of them irritate my sensitive skin. Good Genes has turned that all around! It hydrates and gently exfoliates without irritating.”
Tumblr media
Sephora
La Mer The Lip Balm
You’re probably thinking what we’re thinking — a lip balm that costs $70? That can’t be serious. But if you’re familiar with the luxury skin care brand La Mer, the price tag may come as less of a surprise. This mint-scented and velvety soft lip balm calms and conditions your lips while supporting their natural moisture barrier and helping to protect against environmental damage.
It’s free of sulfates, parabens and tons of other less than ideal ingredients, and it boasts La Mer’s signature Miracle Broth — a formulation that aims to help restore your skin to its healthiest and most radiant form.
Reviewers acknowledge the steep price tag but are convinced that despite the cost, it’s worth every penny. One person writes that they have “tried every form of lip moisturizer on the planet, and this blows everything else out of the water.”

Sephora
Tatcha Violet-C Radiance Mask
Tatcha is known for creating some of the most effective skin care on the market, and this creamy vitamin C mask is no exception. Rios credits this mask for keeping her skin glowing, noting its luxurious texture and super-hydrating benefits.
Formulation-wise, it’s packed with rich, high-quality ingredients, from two different types of vitamin C to an AHA complex derived from seven different fruit extracts, and the brand’s signature Hadasei-3 Complex, a proprietary blend of “double-fermented Uji green tea, Akita rice and Mozuku algae.” All of this works together, resulting in a mask that leaves your skin instantly softer, smoother and more radiant. There are also some more long-term effects — the vitamin C helps to prevent signs of aging, while the AHA complex works to improve overall skin texture over time.

Sephora
Gisou Honey-Infused Hair Perfume
A hair perfume may not be in everyone’s beauty rotation, but this option might just convince you that it should be. “This honey-infused perfume is ethically sourced,” shares Yamga, and draws on ingredients from Gisou founder Negin Mirsalehi’s father’s bee gardens. “The combination of minerals, vitamins and antioxidants assist in maintaining your hair’s moisture while also leaving behind a beautiful floral scent.”
Simply spray on your hair after styling for a summer-perfect scent that will linger throughout the day, and of course provide your hair with those benefits Yamga mentions. Just be sure to use a light hand, since a little goes a long way.

Clé de Peau Beauté Concealer Broad Spectrum SPF 25
“This tiny little stick is really all you need in a pinch when it comes to complexion,” shares Greenwald. “The high-quality pigments cover and smooth even the most challenging areas and can be buffed out on the entirety of the skin for a soft focus foundation.”
And she acknowledges that while it’s a big price for what seems like a really small product, anyone who has tried it would attest that it’s well worth its price. Not only do reviewers love the full coverage effect of this concealer, they also love how moisturizing it is. Concealers are notorious for looking cakey or emphasizing dryness, especially throughout the day — but not this product. Because a little goes a long way, the small amount actually lasts quite a while (one reviewer notes up to a year). And the formulation includes SPF 25, which is always a big bonus in our book.

Sephora
Kiehl’s Midnight Recovery Concentrate Face Oil
“I use this lightweight oil at night,” shares Rios, “and wake up with my skin looking fresh and dewy.” The Kiehl’s Midnight Recovery Concentrate Face Oil is one of our all-time favorite skin care products as well, because it’s so simple yet so effective. With ingredients like lavender essential oil and evening primrose oil, the formula works to restore your skin overnight so you wake up with visibly brighter, radiant and, of course, moisturized skin.
If you’re wondering how that actually works, it turns out our skin actually repairs itself while we sleep. Targeting our skin with a beneficial, high-quality oil like this one while it’s already going through those natural restorative functions only helps it along that process.
Sabrina Yamani Yamga, an award-winning hairstylist based in Chicago, is a big fan of the Dyson Airwrap, which we’ve reviewed in its entirety here. “This little device comes with so many attachments that work fast,” she shares, “and uses intelligent heat control technology to give you that salon blowout look without having to leave home.”
While the price tag is high, this product truly performs in a way that no other product on the market does. To start, you’re not styling your hair with the same type of heat as a standard iron or hair dryer, which means that you’re doing way less damage to your hair. The other noteworthy feature, and something that Yamga calls out, is the number and variety of attachments. This product isn’t just a fancy hair curler — it comes with two different sized curling barrels, three different brushes for that easy blowout look and a prestyling dryer, an attachment that achieves a similar result to that of the equally if not more popular Dyson Supersonic.
If you consider the price of all those products combined, the cost of this one product seems a bit less daunting. In addition to all those features, the Dyson Airwrap is just a joy to use — you don’t have to worry about burning your fingers, it’s much lighter than other hair dryers and stylist tools, and the process of doing your hair is just way more comfortable overall.

Trish McEvoy Beauty Balm Instant Solutions BB Cream SPF 35
We’re big fans of an all-in-one product, and this BB cream from Trish McEvoy does it all. It primes your skin, evens out its tone and simultaneously hydrates your skin while controlling oil. Like many luxury makeup products, the skin care benefits of this product are built in — peptides in the formulation help to improve your skin’s texture, while SPF coverage helps to prevent skin damage and aging caused by UVA and UVB rays.
Unlike other similar creams, this option provides much more coverage than a tinted moisturizer, and it’s definitely buildable for anywhere from a medium to full coverage.

By Terry Baume de Rose Lip Care
“I’ve been using this for years,” shares Mireya Rios, an actress and content creator with over 3.8 million followers on TikTok, where she shares the best of beauty. “It’s expensive, but it keeps my lips hydrated, and it smells amazing too.”
This rich lip balm features a suite of nourishing and reparative ingredients, from essential rose wax, which works to soothe and restructure your lips, to floral oils that help nourish and moisturize them, to bio-ceramides, which smooth the skin while providing anti-aging benefits. While it’s perfect as an everyday lip balm, its formulation is also aimed at helping your lips bounce back from periods of dryness or damage.

Luzern Laboratories Serum Absolut V15
“Vitamin C is an integral part of skin care,” shares Jones. “It reverses sun damage, brightens [and] reduces pigmentation.”
She recommends this serum specifically, which features pure vitamin C in addition to a ton of other vitamins and minerals, including vitamins E, A, B3, B12 and D3. Marketed as a multivitamin serum, the blend of goodies in this serum helps to address a whole range of skin goals, from assisting in the production of collagen to reducing inflammation and improving skin elasticity.
“It is so worth the splurge,” Jones raves, calling it “a miracle product.”

Skinceuticals C E Ferulic With 15% L-Ascorbic Acid
It can be tough when a life-changing product is a pricey one. This vitamin C serum boasts a combination of its namesake ingredient, in addition to vitamin E and ferulic acid, which specifically enhances your skin’s protection against environmental damage that can cause skin damage and aging — whether UVA/UVB rays, ozone pollution or diesel engine exhaust.
In addition to that protection, you’ll reap all the other benefits that come with a high-quality serum formulated with prime ingredients, like firmer, brighter and more even skin. It’s been called “life-changing” by one of our editors, who’s grappling with the fact that this serum is totally worth its high price tag.
Tumblr media
Tatcha
Tatcha The Essence
While essences are massively popular in other parts of the world, they’re still not as common in American skin care routines. But if you’ve ever heard of one, it was probably this option from Tatcha. Made from 100% Hadasei-3 — the brand’s proprietary trio of Japanese superfoods — this product is all skin care goodness and nothing else.
Simply splash a bit of the product into your palms and gently press it into your skin. The formulation helps to prep your skin for all steps of your skin care routine while boosting your skin’s own bounciness, texture and radiance.

Tom Ford Eye Color Quad Eye Shadow Palette
Jones calls these eye shadow palettes her favorite splurge. “The presentation of the quad and pigment in the powders are just stunning,” she shares. There are tons of different color and finish combinations to choose from — it’s admittedly hard to choose just one. However, Jones shares that she absolutely loves every palette, so whichever one you decide on is sure to be a great choice.
While people love the matte shades, reviewers go wild for the super-sophisticated, luxurious-looking and eye-catching shimmery shades. Apply them dry for a softer look, or wet for maximum impact — just be prepared for people to ask you about what you’re wearing.

Amazon
Beautyblender The Crown Jewels Blender Essentials Kit
“Beautyblender is the holy grail of makeup sponges and so worth the price,” shares Jones.
While you may be familiar with the standard-size Beautyblender sponge, Jones is also a fan of the different sizes the brand offers for different parts of your face. The smaller sponge in particular is really perfect for blending product into smaller crevices of your face, like along your hairline or on your nose. It can also be used to precisely apply cream or liquid highlighter or blush.
One piece of advice Jones shares is to keep them clean for optimal performance. Fortunately, this kit also comes with mini cleansers.

Sephora
Westman Atelier Vital Skin Foundation Stick
“I love this multitasking foundation,” shares Coombs. “It’s super easy to apply and build — with a brush, sponge or your fingertips — and works great as a blemish and under-eye concealer.”
This foundation stick from Westman Atelier is super luxurious — the container is heavy, the magnetic cap is amazing and the whole thing just feels expensive. Probably not enough reason to buy the product, but when paired with a high-quality foundation, it’s the cherry on top.
“The silicone-free formula contains many skin-friendly ingredients to hydrate and soothe,” Coombs says. The result is a “luminous, natural finish” that falls in the medium coverage range. However, it’s super buildable and great for targeting any troublesome spots.

Equal parts skin care, makeup and technological innovation, the Opte Precision System is a smart skin care device that the brand calls an “all-in-one solution for hyperpigmentation correction, treatment and prevention.”
On the tech side, the handheld device features a little roller at its tip that you slowly sweep across your face. As you do so, the device scans and detects hyperpigmentation using a patented algorithm. Each time the machine identifies hyperpigmentation (some visible, some that may not be visible to the human eye), the device applies a unique serum.
This optimizing serum, which comes with the kit, combines mineral pigments with 5% niacinamide to help treat the discoloration while also lightly covering any dark spots for a super-natural look. The brand says the serum uses 97% less product than foundation, because the coverage is so targeted. Over the course of eight to 12 weeks, the serum continues to fade and eliminate dark spots and discoloration, improving your skin as you continue to use the device.

Nordstrom
Vintner’s Daughter Active Botanical Serum
If you’re sensing a theme here, it’s that serums are often totally worth a splurge. This option from Vintner’s Daughter boasts a stunning blend of 22 natural, multiperforming ingredients that balance, nourish, protect and revitalize all different skin types.
“The oil texture smells incredible, absorbs into the skin beautifully and is a great base under makeup,” shares Coombs. The core of the formulation is the brand’s “proprietary Phyto Radiance Infusion,” a 21-day process in which the nutrients from whole plants are infused into the serum’s formula, at which point additional and essential oils are added.
If it sounds a little bit like witchcraft to you, it does to us too. But the result isn’t just an incredible facial serum — it’s also one with responsibly sourced and highly sustainable ingredients.

How to Do My Summer Skincare Routine
This article may contain affiliate links. See our Disclosure for more information.
Summer skincare isn't just about sun protection.
For me, it's usually one of the most challenging seasons because I tend to break out more, especially near my hairline (thank you, sweat!).
I also get a lot of pigmentation on the sides of my cheeks—even WITH sunscreen.
Thanks for watching!
And of course, it's always hard finding the right products that keep you hydrated and protected, without looking like an oil slick.
That's why this might just be my best summer skincare routine yet!
Not to jinx anything, but so far using these products, my skin has stayed surprisingly clear, even and only slightly dewy, instead of shiny. (I'm not even wearing powder in this photo, and in past summers I wouldn't be able to get away with that!)
Keep reading to find out my skincare goals this season, and everything I'm using right now. And check out my previous routines for spring, winter and fall if you missed them!
My Summer Skincare Goals
Tumblr media
My summer skincare goals include protecting my skin from UV and preventing pigmentation and breakouts.

Thanks for watching!
Alright, here's the lowdown on my skin priorities right now!
Sun protection: The sun is said to be responsible for 80 percent of skin aging, so obviously I'm all about the SPF at the moment. I can remember when I first started doing these mineral sunscreen guides, there were only a handful of high-zinc formulas to choose from, and most were quite heavy and occlusive. Now, there are a good number of lightweight options—so I think that's one reason why my skin is behaving better!
Fading and preventing pigmentation: In the spring, I was battling a serious case of post-acne hyperpigmentation after some Drunk Elephant products made me break out BADLY. That has mostly faded now, although I'm still working on it. At the same time, I'm being diligent about preventing new pigmentation. Sunscreen is half the battle, but so are the right actives. Niacinamide is what works the best for me, and I consider it to be an anti-aging treatment as well.
Preventing breakouts: Like I said, my skin has been unusually clear lately, thank God. But if I learned anything from my Drunk Elephant experience, it was not to get too cocky about that! So I'm keeping up my twice-daily acid routine. I think the niacinamide treatments I'm using right now are also making a difference, along with the lighter SPF and some new toners.
Confession: I fell off the wagon this summer with respect to all my gadgets (admittedly, I went a little wild with them in the spring!). I've just been TOO busy for anything more than an occasional Red Light Man treatment. But, I'm going to get back into using my ZIIP when I have some downtime in August (and yes, I plan to do a review). The microneedling I'm going to save for the fall, as you're not meant to do it after sun exposure.
Since I took you through my skin makeup last time, I won't bore you with that again here (I'm using pretty much the same things anyway).
As always, the majority of these products were purchased by me, and you can see how I scrutinize ingredients lists in this tutorial.
My Morning Skincare Routine
1. Cleanser:
Tumblr media
Youth to the People Superfood Cleanser
My morning cleanser right now is Youth to the People Superfood Cleanser, which I was also using in the spring. This has become one of my favourite gel cleansers—it's sulfate-free, and I don't find it drying at all. (But it might be not be moisturizing enough for dry skin, so I think it's best if you are normal to oily.) While I'm only using it in the mornings, you could also use it at night as the second step in a double cleanse.
I'm also still using the S.W. Basics Cleanser on a Shiseido Facial Cotton on days when I'm not hopping in the shower right away. It's a three-ingredient cleansing water that's great for a quick, gentle cleanse.
2. BHA:
Tumblr media
COSRX BHA Blackhead Power Liquid
What a surprise, COSRX BHA Blackhead Power Liquid is next! I can't see myself EVER giving up this beta-hydroxy acid treatment that I've been using since 2017. As I explained in this review, it treats and prevents breakouts, exfoliates and brightens your skin, fades pigmentation and more. The texture is a liquid gel, and I use my fingers to smooth a generous layer all over my face (excluding the lips and eye area).
3. Serum:
Tumblr media
GEORGANIC Propolis Care Acne Serum
Then I wait about 20 minutes or so to give the BHA time to work before I apply the GEORGANIC Propolis Care Acne Serum. Ignore the name, because this serum is not just going to help acne-prone skin, but also dry or sensitive skin and pigmentation.
First of all, it's got 78 percent Centella Asiatica extract, which is an Asian herb that both moisturizes and strengthens the skin barrier. It also has 10 percent propolis (bee "glue"), which soothes and reduces inflammation, and two percent niacinamide, which has all of these benefits (including brightening). So it's doing a lot more than other serums—and with fewer ingredients! It has a lightweight texture and is highly unlikely to irritate you or break you out.
4. Moisturizer:
Tumblr media
Truly Organic Glass Skin Facial Serum
In summers past, I usually skipped this step and went straight from serum to sunscreen, since moisturizer would make me too greasy. This time, I've been experimenting with Truly Organic Glass Skin Facial Serum, and it's not having that effect at all! (The sunscreen I'm using is lighter, too, but more on that in a second.)
It's interesting that the brand is calling this a serum, because the texture is definitely a cream. It becomes more fluid once you spread it on your skin, so maybe that's why? Anyway, I absolutely love it. Who knew you could make a lightweight but nourishing cream out of soy lecithin, xanthan gum, aloe vera, coconut oil, cocoa butter and vitamin E?!
5. Eye Cream:
Tumblr media
Truly Organic Doll Face Face Cream
Instead of eye cream, I'm using Truly Organic Doll Face Face Cream right now. (I swear, this brand is one of my BEST discoveries this year!) Lately, I've been getting some irritation in my eye area, probably from some makeup I've been using, so I wanted to try a very basic cream that wouldn't cause any more issues. I find that I can't use a lot of eye creams because their ingredients lists are too complex, with too many potential irritants.
Like the Glass Skin Serum, this cream has a very simple, natural ingredients list—in fact, the ingredients are almost the same. Doll Face, however, has a slightly thicker texture and a pink tint (maybe from the seaweed extract?). It's perfect as an eye cream, and I also wouldn't hesitate to use it as a face cream, which I'll be doing once it gets colder. (I've already tested it all over my face, and it doesn't break me out.) Truly obsessed with this brand!
6. Sunscreen:
Tumblr media
Ava Isa Pure Untinted Ultra Matte SPF 45 Sunscreen
For my mineral sunscreen this season, I've got a brand new tube of Ava Isa Pure Untinted Ultra Matte SPF 45 Sunscreen, which the company recently tweaked to create a creamier texture. (There's also a tinted version, by the way, and you can now find them in the US at Credo Beauty!) This is such a great SPF for anyone who hates heavy, greasy sunscreens. It's so light on the skin, and the protection from UVA rays (the aging type of rays) is incredible.
I JUST received a PR sample of the new REN Clean Screen Mattifying Face Sunscreen SPF 30, so I'm going to be adding that to the rotation, too. It's not available yet here in Canada, but you can find it in the US and UK. You can learn more about all my sunscreen picks in this year's mineral sunscreen guide!
7. SPF Lip Balm:
Tumblr media
COOLA Tinted Mineral Liplux SPF 30
As I mentioned in my recent review, COOLA Tinted Mineral Liplux SPF 30 is my top pick for an SPF lip balm. You're getting all-mineral protection in a moisturizing, water-resistant formula. It comes in a bunch of different tints—see my swatches here. My favourite is the coral shade called Tan Line.
I'm not wearing this in the photo above, though! (Oops!) That's Glossier Generation G in Crush with some Lanolips 101 Ointment on top.
8. Face Mists:
Tumblr media
Tatcha The Satin Skin Mist, BIOeffect OSA Water Mist and Pai Rice Plant & Rosemary BioAffinity Skin Tonic
My last step in the morning (and throughout the day, actually) is face mist. I'm BIG on face mists in the summer. Tatcha The Satin Skin Mist is my latest purchase, a "liquid powder" that you shake and then spray on to mattify your skin. I've been experimenting with this instead of regular face powder, and it does a good job of taking away shine without making my skin look dry or dull.
I also like BIOeffect OSA Water Mist, which I was using last summer, too. This one is also slightly mattifying thanks to the silica, and hydrating thanks to the glycerin and hyaluronic acid. The packaging is great to pop in your handbag.
And I just bought another Pai Rice Plant & Rosemary BioAffinity Skin Tonic, which I used two or three years ago and loved. This one is super juicy and refreshing, and is specifically formulated to help balance combo skin.
My Nighttime Skincare Routine
1. Makeup Remover:
Tumblr media
Darphin Azahar Cleansing Micellar Water
Moving on to evening... my first step is always micellar water, and I decided to try out another one to share with you, the Darphin Azahar Cleansing Micellar Water. If you feel like splurging, it does the job, with 94 percent natural ingredients (although BIOeffect's formula is technically more "clean"). It doesn't cause any irritation for me, but I'm also rinsing it off with the next step.
2. Cleanser:
Tumblr media
Indie Lee Purifying Face Wash
There's nothing like a foaming face wash in the summer to get off all the sweat and grime that's been seeping into your pores all day—am I right? I finally got around to trying Indie Lee Purifying Face Wash, which I bought a while back but somehow forgot about (I have way too many cleansers!).
This has a unique jelly texture that turns into a light creamy foam once you massage it over wet skin. Honestly, it's great (just like ALL the cleansers from this brand). It's gentle, sulfate-free and doesn't leave my skin feeling tight. Keep in mind that it's more for oily and combo skin, though. If you are dry, I think the Indie Lee Rosehip Cleanser is better for you.
3. Cleansing Brush:
Tumblr media
Foreo Luna 2 for Combination Skin
As usual, I pair my cleanser with the Foreo Luna 2 for Combination Skin, my favourite gentle cleansing brush. Summer is when I use this puppy the most, since sunscreens have a tendency to clog pores and I'm paranoid of leaving any traces on my skin.
By the way, a new version of this brush has just come out, the Luna 3. The main difference is that there's now an app, so you can customize the treatment intensity with your phone. I'm not sure if they are discontinuing the older one but I hope not! Personally, I feel like I don't need the 3 as the 2 already works perfectly.
4. Toner:
Tumblr media
Benton Aloe BHA Skin Toner and Pyunkang Yul Acne Toner
In the spring, I mentioned that I've started to incorporate a toner step in the evenings, after cleansing and before my acid. I was inspired by NYC facialist Christine Chin, who believes that skipping toner is the number one mistake most people make! My problem was finding the RIGHT toner. Most toners I've tried don't play well with the COSRX BHA for some reason, and my skin goes red, hot and flushed when I use them together. Then I got the idea to try Lotion P50 as my toner, and it didn't do that!
However, Lotion P50 isn't the most accessible product, so I wanted to find some other options I could recommend to you guys. Thank goodness for K-beauty. I found two more toners that are compatible with acids! Benton Aloe BHA Skin Toner contains soothing aloe vera, hydrating snail mucin and 0.5 percent salicylic acid. Pyunkang Yul Acne Toner has willow bark extract (a natural BHA), niacinamide and Centella Asiatica extract. They're both quite cheap!
5. BHA:
Tumblr media
COSRX BHA Blackhead Power Liquid
After the toner, I apply COSRX BHA Blackhead Power Liquid, same as the morning. In past routines, you might remember me using it only in the mornings, with another salicylic acid treatment at night. But since the spring, I've stuck with this twice a day, and I really notice that my skin is always clear now. Like, I can be walking around all day sweating, or going through PMS time, and not even have ONE pimple. This stuff is GOLD!
6. Serum:
Tumblr media
SkinCeuticals Discoloration Defense
As much as I love A313 (reviewed here), I'm taking a little break from retinoids for the next month or so. One, because I finished the tube and had to order another, and two, because I plan to be spending a lot of time outside in August. This paper talks about retinoids and phototoxicity, so I just like to be careful!
Instead, I'm applying SkinCeuticals Discoloration Defense, which was also in my spring routine. I use this about 20 minutes after the acid. It has five percent niacinamide, which acts as an antioxidant and will help me combat any sun-induced pigmentation. There are also tons of studies about niacinamide's ability to repair radiation-induced DNA damage (see here for a few). Yes, I am obsessed with niacinamide and prefer it to vitamin C!
7. Lash Serum:
Tumblr media
neuLASH Lash Enhancing Serum
In my last few routines, I've forgotten to include lash serum, so I wanted to let you know that I've been using neuLASH Lash Enhancing Serum for a while now. You just paint this along your upper lash lines, and it helps strengthen your lashes so that they hang around longer (and therefore look thicker). Coming from Latisse, I think this has helped me maintain those results!
8. Eye Cream:
Tumblr media
Truly Organic Doll Face Face Cream
Again, my "eye cream" right now is Truly Organic Doll Face Face Cream. No, it doesn't have any anti-aging ingredients, but it's keeping my eye area nice and hydrated. I wish more brands would take a cue from this company's ultra-simple formulas! With eye creams especially, the fewer ingredients, the better.
9. Lip Balm:
Tumblr media
Lanolips 101 Ointment Multipurpose Superbalm
As always, my last step is some lanolin lip balm. All that's in Lanolips 101 Ointment Multipurpose Superbalm is medical-grade lanolin, which I think is the best thing for healing dry lips. Ever since I got onto this stuff, I NEVER experience chapping.
For a cheaper (but less cute) option, Lansinoh Lanolin Nipple Cream is the same thing!
Conclusion
Tumblr media
My summer skincare products from Pai, Benton, Darphin, Indie Lee, Ava Isa, Pyunkang Yul, Youth to the People, GEORGANIC, Tatcha, SkinCeuticals, BIOeffect and Truly Organic.
I hope you enjoyed reading about this routine!
Even though I'd describe my skin as combination, I think a lot of these products would work for drier skin than mine, too. I can't say enough good things about Truly Organic in particular. The fact that they can make such incredible creams without a long list of weird synthetic ingredients is just amazing to me!
I hope you also check out GEORGANIC, because that's another one I'd recommend for ALL skin. It's a K-beauty brand, by the way (as are COSRX, Benton and Pyunkang Yul). I'm a bit late to the party but I'm working on a Korean "clean skincare" guide to share with you soon. Stay tuned!

Yet another A-lister has praised the powers of a $19 lotion that’s been around since 1926. This mysterious (or maybe not so mysterious) multi-purpose beauty buy — which we’re deeming one of the most popular moisturizers in Hollywood — comes in a bright green tube that looks so fresh and clean you’d probably buy it even without knowing all of the benefits.
Enter: Weleda’s Skin Food Original Ultra-Rich Cream, an all-over body lotion that was most recently praised by the ever-glowing Lily Aldridge. The model was the latest to show off her nighttime beauty routine for Harper’s Bazaar’s Go To Bed With Me series, and though she called out beauty shelf heros like Barbara Sturm’s Super Anti-Aging Serum ($350; nordstrom.com) and Tatcha’s Luminous Dewy Skin Sheet Mask ($12; sephora.com), it’s Weleda’s Skin Food Cream that especially caught our attention.
Why? Because we have yet another name to add to an already extensive list of celebs who’ve raved about the thick, ultra-hydrating, multi-purpose lotion — a list that includes industry heavy hitters like Julia Roberts, Victoria Beckham, Michelle Williams, and Adele — and because it’s one of the more affordable beauty buys Aldrige uses at night.
RELATED: Mandy Moore and Emma Roberts Found the Best Way to Wear This Sensible Shoe Trend
This versatile lotion has a thick, buttery consistency that feels so luxurious. It’s great for quenching thirsty skin from head to toe (meaning you can use it as a face cream, a hand moisturizer, and a body lotion), but that’s not all. This multi-purpose cream also gives your skin a dewy, glowing finish. In fact, in 2017, Beckham shared with Into the Gloss that Weleda’s Skin Food was her go-to for a head-to-toe glow. And in the newest Harper’s Bazaar video, Aldridge notes that about 50 percent of makeup artists she’s worked with use it as a base before applying makeup. The result? A healthy, shiny radiance that, according to the model, photographs really well. Let the selfie session(s) commence.
Regardless of whether your skin needs a surge of moisture on your hands or the illusion of a post-vacation glow, Weleda’s Skin Food is the answer. Shop the celeb-loved cream below and see what all the hype is about firsthand.
Buy It! Weleda Skin Food Original Ultra-Rich Cream, $18.99; dermstore.com

One Week Challenge: 10 Step K-Beauty Skincare Routine
One Week Challenge: 10 Step K-Beauty Skincare Routine ⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ @MyTherapistSays ⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣ https://mytherapistsays.ca/one-week-challenge-10-step-k-beauty-skincare-routine/
Skincare: it is so damn hard. It can also take up tons of time in your day! The Korean beauty industry swears by a ten-step skincare routine (which can take upwards of 30 minutes). I’m here to test it out, see the benefits and if it’s worth it to spend so much time, energy, effort, and cash on your skincare. Everyone’s skin is so different, the thing I love about this challenge is how the products are all customizable to you, you can focus on clarifying, brightening, moisturizing, or really anything that your skin needs. Skin can change based on hormones, eating habits, drinking habits, and more.  Basically, there are four different (very broad) skin types, normal, dry, oily, and combination. I fall under combination which means that my pores on my t-zone can be an issue, I have minor random breakouts, I get oily on my t-zone but can get rough dry patches in other places – basically, my skin is all over the place!  This routine is great because when my skin is oily I can focus on that, but when my skin is dry I can also focus on that!
My interest in Korean skincare sprouted from when I was searching the internet to find some cool sheet masks (I will write an article to review the 10 different masks I ordered once they arrive). I stumbled upon Soko Glam, a Korean skincare site which makes Korean skincare accessible to people around the world! Sephora does have some k-beauty brands – but definitely not the whole roster which is what makes Soko so amazing.
While stalking the website I stumbled upon something amazing, the 10-step Korean skincare routine. This got me super intrigued, I realized that I was missing MANY steps in my skincare and that I could be doing so much more for my skin! I did not know how much of a lengthy process this would be though. Almost immediately when I was late to my fave workout class (they didn’t let me in and I got sad/stressed) I ran to Sephora to pick up some all new products to incorporate in my new ten step routine. I had a rough day at work and needed some retail therapy, don’t judge me! I grabbed everything I was missing to complete this routine and am challenging myself to try out this routine for 7 days straight.  I will see how I feel (skin wise and otherwise) and I will let you know if this is something I’m going to stick with or not at the end, and if it’s worth it to try this challenge out for yourself!
I did my research, read this article from Soko Glam, spoke with a Sephora rep. at the store and told her about what I would be doing, and came to the conclusion that I needed a toner, essence, some new moisturizer, sheet masks (which I ordered on Soko), and I needed to figure out my cleansing situation. Now I will take you through my routine, and give you a little weekly progress report.
1. Makeup Remover/Oil Cleanser
There is a reason this has 120k loves on Sephora, the Green Clean Makeup Removing Cleansing Balm by Farmacy is super amazing. I am the type of girl who usually sticks with a makeup wipe from Neutrogena and MAYBE a cleanser or cleansing mask if I’m feeling it (usually not in the morning, and usually not when I’m too tired at night, so I would say about two nights a week – otherwise I just use the wipe – I know, I’m so bad). The cleansing situation is probably the biggest change to my routine but I am loving it. This cleansing balm is so nice and feels so luxurious on the skin but is also super powerful at scrubbing all my makeup away! I had waterproof mascara on and this did the trick almost instantly. It left my skin feeling refreshed and awesome, it smells great too.
2. Water Based Cleanser
Here I actually use a Korean skincare brand! I have been using Glow Recipe’s Blueberry Bounce Gentle Cleanser for a while now – and I am truly here for it. It normally sits in my shower waiting for me to wash my face in there – but now it’s getting used more often so it’s made its way to my vanity! Mazel Tov cleanser, I’m so proud of you.
3. Exfoliate
For exfoliating I’m gonna alternate between an exfoliating mask (Summer Fridays Overtime Mask) which I have been obsessed with for some time now, and these NuFace exfoliating and cleansing wipes. I think I will use the mask every other night, and the wipes every morning and on the nights when I don’t use the mask. The mask smells so good and really leaves skin super exfoliated but also super-nourished, smooth, and soft.  The wipes are so amazing because I love how when I use them I can actually see the leftover makeup that I’m picking from on my skin (that would have been left behind if I missed this step so thanks K-beauty routine). The wipes also have a really nice light exfoliation as they just have these tiny little bumps on one side of the wipe, it feels really nice on the skin.
4. Toner
One of the new products I’m incorporating is the Ren Ready Steady Glow AHA Tonic, I just got this at Sephora and have been loving it. It smells super fruity and refreshing, but I can tell it’s really getting into my skin with some chemical exfoliation and some PH balancing. I finished my Glossier Solution and moved on to this – unfortunately, this took the cake and beat out my love and devotion for all things Glossier.  I still love Glossier and I am incorporating one of their products in the line-up, but for toner, this stuff really gets the dirty shit out of your skin and leaves you with the perfect base for the rest of your skincare.  Even after my 3 cleansing steps, I find that there is still some makeup/dirt residue picked up by this toner.
5. Essence
I had just recently purchased the Tatcha essence and have become obsessed. The effect it had on my skin within – I kid you not – days is outstanding. I now cannot go without this in my skincare routine, it keeps my skin plump, smooth, and super hydrated but also I’ve noticed that I get less oily throughout the day when I use this! You don’t put it on with a cotton pad (i thought that was how you did it and I wasted a ton of money on the SKII essence by using it this way and it did nothing for me).
6. Treatment/Serum
The good thing about treatments and serums is that you can mix them, layer them, and use this step to really personalize your skincare routine to exactly what your skin needs that day. The ones that I’ll probably focus mostly on during this little k-beauty challenge are the Sunday Riley Good Genes, the Glow Recipe Pineapple C Brightening Serum, the Youth to the People Superberry Hydrate and Glow Oil, and the First Aid Beauty Ultra Repair Oat & Cannabis Sativa Seed Oil. I’ve been using all these before and find they really work and do exactly what they claim to do! This way I can mix and match and say if I want to clear up my skin but not dry it out I can mix Good Genes with the Ultra Repair Cannabis Oil.
7. Sheet Mask
So as I mentioned, I ordered a bunch of Korean sheet masks online, still waiting for those to come so in the meantime I have been using what I have stashed away at home. I have a few of the Farmacy Hydrating & Brightening masks, as well as the Glow Recipe Watermelon Glow Jelly Sheet Mask, and the Saturday Skin Cotton Cloud Probiotic Power Mask. These all are pretty good for me, I love the jelly masks more than the cotton ones because I find they absorb into the skin more and leave my skin feeling bouncy and plump!
8. Eye Cream
So here we go Glossier, your time to shine. I picked up the Glossier bubble wrap (made my mom and sis walk back to the Glossier flagship in the pouring rain to get this after I forgot it because I’m annoying AF and I love Glossier) on a recent trip to New York and have ever since been obsessed. It’s bouncy and super hydrating so good job Glossier! This step is so soothing, and sometimes I’ll use a jade roller to de-puff my eyes even more.
9. Moisturizer
I have been loving the Protini moisturizer from Drunk Elephant recently, it is so fresh and dewy, super moisturizing, and I also find it evens my skin tone out a little bit as well. All around amazing. I also think it clears up some acne or at least makes acne less frequent on my face! When I reach this step in the routine I am so happy because I’m replenishing the moisture, but also it means that my routine is coming to an end!
10. SPF
This is the only thing in my routine that differs from morning to night, I don’t put any SPF on at night. When I use SPF in the morning I am obsessed with the Supergoop City Serum because it’s a sunscreen but also has some amazing nutrients for your skin in it as well. I always find sunscreen to feel weird on my face and pill up under makeup, but this one sinks in right away and is amazing! I haven’t gotten sunburnt since using this so I would give it a 10/10 rating.
Now onto the routine, let’s see how this goes…
DAY #1
I was honestly really excited to start this little challenge out, I love skincare and was really excited to extend my routine. The one thing I realized on day one was exactly how long a ten-step skincare routine takes (and it’s pretty damn long). For most steps of the routine, I like to wait a few minutes in between to let the skincare really sink in, but once you add two minutes between each step you’re already at a twenty-minute routine! In between steps I’ll brush my teeth, brush and/or style my hair, and maybe watch a little bit of Game of Thrones.
After doing the routine both in the morning and at night I can honestly tell you that my skin has never felt better. I love how clean my skin feels, but it also is SO nourished because of all the time and products being lathered on. The time thing may take some getting used to, but as of right now it is so worth it.
DAY #3
Okay – so I started this whole routine out on the weekend, but now it’s the week, and I have work (I have to be at the office at 7:30 am some days).  I am NOT a morning person, so waking up an extra thirty minutes early just for skincare is really pushing it for me. I had to rush through my routine this morning and not take breaks between each step. The routine did not feel as nourishing mentally or physically but at least I got it done! My skin is radiant though, even my mom noticed! So that’s a plus.
I have to say though, taking thirty minutes of my night to do skincare is probably the most relaxing part of my day! Self-care is so important and I really feel like when I take the time to do this ten-step skincare routine it nourishes my ‘self’ and allows me to take a minute to reflect on my day! I LOVE the nighttime part, but the morning routine is tiring.
DAY #5
My skin has never been like this! I’ve always had decent skin, minimal breakouts, I get oily by the end of the day, sometimes have some dry spots in the winter, but otherwise, I’ve never been very upset with my skin. This routine though is adding things to my skin that I didn’t realize I was missing! I never noticed how textured my skin was on my forehead and chin until I realized that the texture was almost gone! My pores have never been so discreet, and the elasticity of my skin is so amazing! Makeup goes on like it never has before, but I’ve really been able to keep my makeup minimal because my skin is so radiant on its own!
I’ve gotten over my early morning grudge because the results are to die for! I’m also trying to incorporate more self-care into my routine if I’m going to be set out so much time for this skincare routine I may as well get some other benefits too! I have added in jade rolling consistently between step 6 and 7, I do deep breathing exercises while letting my good genes treatment dry on my face, and I’ve also incorporated some self talk into the routine and try to say 3 things I like about myself while cleansing, and then while my sheet mask is on in the morning I’ll say 3 things that I’m looking forward to for my day and at night I’ll say 3 things I’m grateful for from my day. I also use essential oil with my diffuser and keep this on in the bathroom while I complete my routine.
DAY #7
So today is my last day of the challenge, but I’ve decided that I am most definitely going to extend it. Once I got over the early morning hump I realized how important it is to take time when I wake up and before I go to bed for myself. Doing skincare is great because it gives you a break from your phone and lets you look in the mirror and focus on the good! I’ve found that my routine is not only amazing for my skin, but the results in my mental health, stress, and confidence are stellar as well. Even if you don’t have the time to do the full ten step routine, try to set out a morning and night routine for yourself, and include some self-care aspects into your skincare routine. Consistency is key, and your skin and mind will for sure see benefits!

4 Useful Tips For Finding Your Glow
From primers to moisturizers, it seems that every other product promises some sort of illuminating effect. Yes, we all want that coveted glow, the one that looks as though a halo is blasting its ethereal shine onto our faces, but which products actually work to give off this all-over youthful vibe, and which product is right for you?
Take a look below at our 4 useful tips for finding your glow.
1. Limit your illuminating products to one per skincare regimen (note: this does not include your handy spot treatment highlighter). A great way to ease into this trend is with an illuminating primer that can be used pre-makeup as a base or on its own for subtle “everywhere” shimmer. Try the original luminizer base, aptly dubbed dew in a bottle, Burberry Fresh Glow Luminous Fluid Base ($48), Charlotte Tilbury Wonderglow Instant Soft-Focus Beauty Flash ($55), a favorite for plumping, priming, and delivering anti-aging benefits, or Honest Beauty Everything Primer ($27), which offers the most subtle golden glow, while it plumps and primes the complexion.
2. For less glow (a.k.a. illumination), use your shimmer product closest to the skin, like a shimmering moisturizer or serum. Make the skincare product give good glow, not the makeup. Try Tatcha Balanced Pore Perfecting Water Gel ($68), which gives off a subtle speckle of golden glow and works on all skin types, including oily (BB obsessed!) or Dr. Barbara Sturm Glow Drops ($145), the coveted anti-aging serum that also offers a beautiful glowing texture.
3. If you’re a fan of BB and CC creams, opt for your illumination item to be an illuminating BB or CC cream – there are so many great ones on the market that’ll give you a moderate amount of all-over shimmer while still tackling skin issues like aging or dull complexion). We love It Cosmetics CC+ Illumination ($38) – with an added SPF of 50.
4. For a serious statement-making glow, choose a basic liquid illuminator, which has the highest concentration of illumination, and combine it with your foundation of choice for an all-over dewy goddess look. You can also use these liquid illuminators to spot treat, meaning dab a small amount onto brow and cheek bones, bridge of nose, and cupid’s bow post-makeup to draw the light to your best assets. Try Nars Illuminator ($30), come in four shades but we’re keen on Hot Sand, or Nyx Cosmetics Born to Glow Liquid Illuminator ($7).
Remember to use an illuminator on your chest as well. It’s an epic way to hydrate, blur imperfections, and bask in a healthy décolletage dew.

10 Best Oils for Extremely Dry Skin
Hii IMBBians,
Oils are a complete savior for dry skin. Ask Rati and she will also agree to this. Gone are those days when we used to think that oils will ruin our look. Now, oils are extremely lightweight and they penetrate deep into your skin and provides correct moisturization and dewiness. Thus, here we have done a complete roundup of some of the best oils for extremely dry skin:
1. The Body Shop Vitamin E Facial Oil:
This is a lightweight facial oil which is extremely comfortable on the skin. Not only it keeps the skin moisturized all throughout the day but it is also extremely effective in removing acne scars. With continuous usage, you will be able to see that your skin texture has greatly improved.
2. Bioderma Anti Age Oil:
This is another lightweight oil which not only adds moisturization to your skin but also helps in providing anti-aging benefits to your skin. It reduces fine lines and wrinkles and combats any kind of dryness or dry patches on the skin.
3. Tatcha Gold Camellia Beauty Oil:
This is a Japanese oil which is extremely rich in anti-oxidants which help to seal the moisture within. It also contains fatty acids which are extremely beneficial for dry skin. It also contains 23 karat gold extracts which add a beautiful healthy glow to your skin.
4. Joelle Ciocco Face Oil:
This oil is enriched with vitamin A, C, and E which improves the texture of the skin in long run. It also contains omega 3 fatty acids which help to provide moisture and repair your skin from inside.
5. Votary Face Oil:
This is a rosy and luxurious smelling oil which does wonders to your dry and dehydrated skin. It is a thick oil but gets absorbed into your skin within seconds. It sinks into the skin and makes sure that your skin texture is improved over a long run. This does not feel sticky at all on your face.
6. Seaberry Moisturizing Face Oil:
The oil is enriched with lavender extracts which makes the skin glowing and hydrated at the same time. It is a bit heavy and thus, you need to give it a good 5-10 minutes to get into your skin completely, otherwise, it might stain your pillows. This oil can be used as a perfect night skincare regime.
7. Sunday Riley Artemis Hydroactive Cellular Face Oil:
It is luxurious but still not heavy on the skin. The oil feels extremely comfortable on the skin. This can be used both in the morning and at night time by extremely dry skinned beauties. It leaves a beautiful dewy glow on your face.
8. Honest Beauty Everything Organic Facial Oil:
The facial oil is made of pure seeds and root oil which provides sufficient nourishment to the skin. The facial oil also has antioxidants and vitamin E which help the skin to glow and it ensures that your skin is in perfect shape.
9. Tata Harper Retinoic Nutrient Face Oil:
The prime ingredient of this facial oil is rosehip oil. Rosehip oil is very thin but extremely strong in nature. This should never be used directly on the skin. You need to use it in diluted form. And with continuous usage, you will be able to see that the facial oil has improved the texture of the skin and healed dry patches of the skin.
10. Clinique Turnaround Revitalizing Treatment Oil:
This is a deeply nourishing facial oil which heals dry patches of your skin by regular usage. This treatment oil is rich in multivitamins which improve the texture of skin with time.
