Jamie spending so much time with Roy and visibly being so close to Roy that even Roy’s little niece takes note and ensures he’s invited to their Uncle’s Day celebration as Uncle Roy’s best friend, YET Jamie still being surprised, flattered and excited several episodes later when Roy does something as simple as invite him out for a beer, because that’s clearly something that’s unprecedented—the first opportunity to hang out as friends without any guise of it being for football—is just soooooo!! The implications are so silly. Roy definitely spent the entire season framing every interaction he had with Jamie around “work” and “training” even when he really just needed to be around someone (well, specifically around Jamie) because his ass couldn’t just admit he likes having Jamie around. We know from the show he showed up at least once in the evening for “once more before dinner” (Roy…it was literally dark outside and you’d already had Jamie running around twice that day. be forreal)
…so anyway! Roy bringing dinner over to Jamie’s 4 nights a week and it’s really because he doesn’t want to eat alone and having his meals with Jamie is just better, but he still disguises it every time as “well I obviously need to make sure your nutrition is sound and you are eating enough and the right things this is a very important part of your training. I am doing you a crucial service.” Roy bringing Jamie along with him when he watches Phoebe because Phoebe and Jamie adore each other, but Roy “makes” him show her some footie tricks in his back garden and claims it’s because “being able to explain it to someone else is how you become a leader on the team this is very important” or else has him haul phoebes around on his back or whatever as “strength training” to make himself feel better about just wanting Jamie to be there to hang out. Roy following Jamie back home after matches because he needs to “assess his post-match routine and make sure he’s not overdoing it,” but really it’s just them plopped on Jamie’s couch watching bad reality tv and judging it together. And then *obviously* he might as well stay over, so that he can also observe and give Jamie his helpful advice on a morning wake up and stretch routine. Totally necessary!
And look, part of Jamie understands what’s really happening here and at least sort of knows Roy really does like spending time with him outside of just work and training (hence all his best friend teasing on Uncle’s Day), but Jamie is also a bit of an idiot (affectionate) who in equal measure sort of believes he’s just deluding himself and that all of this really has been an elaborate and effective training scheme from Coach Roy.™️ They perplex and bewitch me. s

so, apparently the finale is called “so long, farewell” which has so many layers and connections i can’t deal with it. firstly it’s another musical lyric as a title (this time unedited from its original text unlike the la cage episode) and we already know that ted loves a musical.
secondly it brings back the julie andrews conversation in episode three which was possibly one of my favourite interactions of the entire season.
but thirdly and (possibly most importantly??) the entire plot of the sound of music is that maria is sent somewhere she originally doesn’t want to go, she gets there and feels instantly out of her depth. the team children try to force her out and the adults don’t take her seriously but gradually, through her unwavering positivity and gentle care she makes an impact on every single person. kids and adults alike, all changed for the better because of her guidance. but then!! maria falls in love, thinks she is no longer needed and she Leaves. she runs, goes back to the convent where she feels safe but then, after a honest conversation and a realisation of her own purpose and the importance of being true to her heart she Returns! she comes back, her role slightly changed but still just as important and involved.
all this time I’ve been worried that ted will be like mary poppins and leave when he is no longer needed, when he’s served a purpose. but this episode title has me feeling (hoping) that maybe he’s like a different julie andrews character after all..

Ted doing that weird analogy thing isn’t that strange, even in this situation. He always does these things. Talks about something that seems totally irrelevant but that has a core message. You can hate his analogy as much as you want and sure, it was messy. But what he really tried to say was actually really nice and something that you don’t hear that often. “We care.” Because yes, as the players say, they don’t care that Colin is gay. And it IS supportive but at the same time, it IS kind of dismissive. And this is what Ted is trying to say, Colin has faced so much hardship because of who he is and will continue to do so whether or not he comes out to the public. So they should care. Because that’s what true allies should do. They should care. Because not caring could lead to indifference. (Not saying that the team would end up feeling indifferent, they would probably kill to protect Colin tbh.) It's such a small detail to include but I think that it's beautiful. Because it's so true, "We don't not care.". Yes, we don't care that you're queer, you are still you, but we DO care about what you've been going through and will go through. I don't know, I just think that it was a great thing to adress, how seemingly accepting words can be interpreted.
Something else about Ted's clumsy analogy I want to bring up that I find interesting is that they cut to Trent’s reaction when Ted says “because I didn’t care” with air quotes. And Trent is smiling. Because I believe that Trent understands Ted. Sees what he’s trying to say. Trent picks up on what Ted is saying before Ted spells it out for Colin (and the team) and we also get to see Trent’s reaction to that moment. But Trent already knew that’s what he meant. Colin and the team just needed Ted to speak clearly. And perhaps he should have done that from the start, but he got there in the end. But Trent already understood.

I am so deeply in my Jamie feels today idek why. But specifically Mom City.
Like Jamie sulking all episode and then going out into the night, looking all suspicious with his hoodie up, sneaking out. Walking down dark streets, where could he be going??
Then they get there. He smiles at his friendly step dad (which I find very sweet for some reason?? Like he could be bitter or salty or even just like jaded about having a step dad but no, he genuinely lights up at him answering the door, being back home), and his mom. His mom!! They hug like it's been a century and they keep hugging and even as he introduces her to Roy and Keeley they don't let go. Even as Simon moves to go to the kitchen he has to scoot around them (and he doesn't bat an eye at their affection, this is their normal!) and they still don't let go.
It's just so precious. It warms my heart after knowing from earlier seasons that he has such a shit dad that no, despite that, Jamie is and always has been so, so loved.

Believing in rom-communism is all about believing that everything is going to work out in the end... Now, it may not work out how you think it will, or how you hope it does, but, believe me, it will all work out.
#ted lasso spoilers#ted lasso#otp: you liven up the place#mine#m*ne: lasso#i like don't want to tag this with anything i'm having a thought exercise lmao#this is the tip of the iceberg for real i really do think it's their movie#and on an emotional level i'm devastated by this and on an intellectual level i'm just. fascinated#if we take the end as endgamey (though i'm partial to hannah canon ha)#within that endgame the universe gives her a consolation prize of a ted#and i don’t even think that’s my biased reading like his name means the same thing he also is from another country is also divorced also has#a child who evidently can be moved around more easily maybe cause she’s younger and amsterdam is closer#plus all the other similarities we’d talked about after amsterdam#and all the little moments that fatefully lead rebecca to this moment are moments with ted#ted walks away from her and she walks out the door to find this man again#it wouldn’t have happened if she didn’t need to say goodbye to her soulmate#with all of that idk it seems like they added this man not just as love interest but so that he'd be specifically#filling the void ted left in her life and in their romcom#to invoke sleepless in seattle like that when there is a very clear fated soulmate relationship at play#and then to give the ending to another character#like no shade to matthijs he's a fine man but#it just seems intentionally to say the hero of this story has to leave#so 'god's gift' is this substitute#is it the 'it just doesn't happen twice'?? is ted like the maggie of this situation???#is it 'the dream of someone else' which kinda seems like hannah's reading??#you can't always get what you want (the romcom ending the way you think it's going to) but you get what you need (them ending up with their#respective families and possibilities for the future)???#it's just that isn't it. just a completely heartbreaking realization of ted's romcommunsim speech#it's bananas and on purpose and i'm in pain

Nothing to see here, just a woman watching Roy Kent hug Jamie Tartt so tightly and getting just a little tiny bit emotional about it

Was actually thrilled to have them include Roy and Jamie’s season 1 pitch brawl in the A Look Back video because the only reason Beard would ever have done that is to demonstrate the stark contrast between the rivalry that came before and the friendship they have today. That’s the joke, after all: the frankly absurd discrepancy between what they once were and what they are now.
And it’s notable that we get this after the Beer Date Incident, when Roy and Jamie both fall back into bad old habits and it becomes clear that brawling might not stricly be a thing of the past. The thing is, though, that the aftermath is so very different these days. They no longer need to be seperated by their teammates – they figure out a different and less violent (though frankly also very stupid) “solution” to their quarrel, pursue it together, and when that falls through they contemplate and admit their idiocy and go off to share a meal and make nice. The vidoe doesn’t reignite any tension; they are clearly fine at this point, both of them smiling and with Jamie looking over at Roy like that.
Our boys sure did stumble in this episode – as they will again, no doubt – but a stumble doesn’t change the fact of the road already covered. They have come so very far.
(I also love this because the little meaningful and somewhat pointed look Beard is giving Roy allows for the conspiracy theory that our friend Willis somehow learned what happened the other night and wants to remind Roy that yeah, this is what you were and is that really something you want to go back to? Uh-nuh, get it together, man.)

so is the whole 'sam is a leader on this team and the new highly sought after star footballer of afc richmond' storyline ever going to get brought up again, or are the writers done caring about sam now that he isn't rebecca's love interest anymore

okay i know everyone always assumes that trent would be the one who like is experienced and knows what he's doing and is comfortable in his sexuality and out, while ted... well, i've definitely seen some interpretations where he's plenty comfortable, just not really out, but i think a lot of fan content tends towards it either being something he's repressed or he's literally only just discovered, etc. which is all valid by the way, i'm not knocking that at all, and i totally get why that vibe is what people end up going with. but like. have you considered the opposite. ted is like, pretty comfortable in his sexuality, people just make assumptions because he was married to a woman + his whole vibe of affable midwestern dad and all. trent, though, having assumed he was straight up until now, is having a Full Crisis over apparently his first crush being That Goddamn American Coach With The Ridiculous (And Unfortunately Hot??? Somehow?? Is This What Trent Is Into Now???) Mustache.

I’ve seen interesting posts about Jamie and Rebecca being more likeable because they go from bad to good and it’s the opposite for Nate (a simplistic description I disagree with lol).
I guess it makes sense: you root for characters bettering themselves. The famed “redemption arc.” Except Nate is brown.
Let’s say Nate acts like s1 Jamie. Nate insulted Colin once and apologised and he’s retroactively The Homophobe™. Do you think this fucking fandom would root for Nate if he bullied the “AFC himbos” constantly???
Imagine Nate acting like s1 Rebecca. He betrayed Ted’s trust once in an act of desperation. This fandom is calling for his head. What if Nate made calculated repeated attempts to ruin Ted? Who the fuck would be rooting for him then??
Fandoms tolerate characters of colour. They’ll conditionally accept the “good ones” e.g. Sam, Dani and s1 Nate. Bu the minute they “overstep,” it’s over. Fans don’t want growth, they want a reason to freely and openly be racist.
For redemption arcs to work, fans need to believe in a character’s journey and that there is good in him. Fans also need to understand and make peace with a character’s mistakes and blunders.
Redemption arcs don’t work with characters of colour.

sorry i thought about what they did to roy kent in season three of ted lasso and now i have to lie down for a week
#beebles#ted lasso#roy kent#take this as positive or negative im not your mom#but. my god#what if in the final season of our show we took one of the most beloved characters and we took all the development we'd given him over#three seasons and we fucked it and we didnt make it better#even though we keep reminding you every two episodes that he's critically insecure and he's incredibly guilt ridden and he's been doing#everything in his power to be better#backsliding is fine. i love a good backslide. bitches should be backsliding more often#but to put him on that path in the final season of your series and then not resolve it#like. one of the last things we see him do that isnt like. debatably a dream sequence.#is beat the fuck out of his friend who hes spent two seasons making and then demean the fuck out of his exgirlfriend who he wanted to marry#in the Last Episode.#of the whole show.#again i love a good backslide but what in god's name was THAAAAT!!!!!#we know roy's a violent guy we know he struggles with emotional intelligence we've seen all this happen#but to fuck up all the progress he's made and then not resolve it in any way by the time the show ended. ugh#truly feels like they spat in roy's face by the end of the show#like roy's trying to be better for keeley and he ends up being better for himself and then he ends up fucking everything up. Again.#at the very end of the show. what was the reason.#he's fighting with himself for the whole season and then its over. embarrassing really#he's got bright shining moments where that development does shine through but most of it is just painful to watch.#silly. silly shit.
