Tbh I think it's better that they didn't confirm if Lili bought Asuka her T8 clothes because the way Asuka dressed in 8 then implies she CHOSE to resemble/match elements of Lili and a Western European style either on purpose or subconsciously, aside from the bird and biker motif design and silhouette, that would reinforce the way she sees Lili now

Even after all the events of Tekken 8, I still don't believe that Kazuya and Jin hate each other that viscerally like they do Heihachi, especially Kazuya. Some of the grudges they hold against one other are personal (Jin hating Kazuya for trying to kill him in T4 when it was actually Kazuya's devil, or Kazuya trying to kill Jin because he gets in the way of his world domination plans), but they simply remain on that level - their fight against one another is mainly motivated by different goals and ideals that don't actually hold a lot of personal history between the two, because Jin had never encountered his father prior to Tekken 4, nor was Kazuya aware of his son's existence before the events of the fourth tournament.
It is more logical that their hatred for Heihachi goes far deeper than anything, because he was the only person that had a huge influence in their lives, and a very negative one, of course. With Heihachi having had backstabbed and killed both of them (Kazuya twice and Jin once), I think the writing team could have taken a chance to make a plot point where Kazuya and Jin bond over their shared resentment towards the old man and team up in order to kill him while reluctantly trying to accept one another as father/son, with Jin still being wary of Kazuya, considering he was told by Heihachi that his father was "the worst of all and rotten to the core", but becomes conflicted on the inside once Kazuya reveals the truth about himself and Heihachi in the end.
It would be an interesting concept indeed, as well as adding to the evil father trope and potentially setting up Jin's corruption arc that wouldn't lead to whatever the hell storyline in Tekken 6 was, but rather something more complex and intriguing, as the young Kazama was designed to be a flawed hero, in-between good and evil.
This small change would make the whole story a dozen times better than it is in canon and I am still dissapointed that the writers have not considered this in the slightest.

asuka ask game? pick your favorite one
ok so i do enjoy asuka guiltygear but i have been thinking REALLY hard about asuka tekken as of late so we're talking about her today
also this took me WAY too long to post i apologize but it Is out here so yaaaay
favorite thing about them:
ok so legally i have to mention asuka's tekken 8 design because motherfucker WHAT were they thinking with that one. what the fuck was the inspiration. but i love it so much i cannot lie
other than that, i really enjoy her rivalry with lili and how moderately insane that bit has gotten, and i like how they've kept her a character who is a) defensively focused in her gameplay even among the generally aggressive play of t8, and b) has a generally down-to-earth feel to her despite. Everything. happening in tekken
least favorite thing about them:
so i was actually talking to a friend about this recently and she explained my feelings really well, its like. asuka feels like the protagonist of another story that isnt being told.
it feels like she has so much stuff that COULD be a really interesting plot focus for her but it just. hasnt been? like everything between her and feng COULD be so neat but its just been sort of...by the wayside for the past few games in favor of keeping up with the mishimas (new sitcom there btw)
favorite line:
asuka's quotes are fun but most arent super noteworthy unfortunately? its mostly pretty standard fare for fighting game open and win quotes unforch :( i will say though, i do really enjoy this win line in t8 from her:
It's not good to fight all the time. Well, see ya!
bc like. girl. what do you think youre out here doing rn. girl please
(note: i dont speak japanese so i couldnt say anything towards this, but i wonder if asuka speaks with a kansai accent/dialect in game? her being from osaka and all, itd be a cool little addition)
brOTP:
omg actually ive seen stuff between leo and asuka that's been fun before i really enjoy that, iirc theyre not super close in the main canon but i wanna say in the non-canon webcomic theyre friends? i think thats right? either way its a fun concept
OTP:
asulili...uwoagh........
fellas is it gay to buy your rival's dojo and fill it entirely with roses to get their attention? certainly not. certainly.
i do wish we saw some amount more narrative tension between them since most of it has sort of dissolved by t8 but i do think theyre really cute and as mentioned before i really do enjoy their whole bit its awesome
SHOUTOUT ASULILI WEEK BTW I DONT HAVE THE TIME TO PARTICIPATE BUT I AM HYPED ABOUT ITS EXISTENCE
nOTP:
i do not think i have been around long enough to see another pairing for asuka, let alone one i dislike, so i cannot answer this question LMAO
random headcanon:
spun my mental wheel of headcanon topics and it wouldnt stop spinning for like half an hour unfortunately so im just telling you that i think asuka would play baiken or may in strive
unpopular opinion:
i still havent been here long enough to know whats unpopular regarding her :,) although i think in terms of gameplay i think she's cooler than most people believe, though i do agree that her current iteraiton in t8 isnt very strong within the meta unforch :(
song i associate with them:
i can nigh on guarantee that it's because ive been listening to this song while thinking about her really hard recently but absolute zero by natori (banger btw go watch the music video it goes unbelievably hard), i think the lyrics arent entirely unfitting though!!!
favorite picture of them:
i really like this profile art option for her, the posing is fun and the textures on the clothing are really impressive
Tumblr media
and then also i have to mention her preset 3 outfit which i LOVE SO SO MUCH
Tumblr media
(apologies as i cant find a better example pic and do not feel like opening t8 at 2 in the morning on this day)

TEKKEN 8 - Reina Reveal & Gameplay Trailer
TEKKEN 8 will launch for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam on January 26, 2024.
First details on Reina via The PlayStation Blog:
A design that emphasizes the duality in Reina‘s character. We were eager to work with Ms. Mariko Shimazaki, who had previously contributed as a designer for characters like Kazumi and Josie for Tekken 7. We contacted her to handle the design during the early stages of brainstorming character concepts and keywords, despite giving her the challenging task of capturing a genuine martial artist’s appearance with a bold fighting style that blends elements of Taido and Mishima-style karate, while being a young woman who appears somewhat mysterious and has that duality. She delivered an exceptional design. Thanks to the design proposals we received from Ms. Shimazaki, the grand direction for Reina was clear from the beginning. In creating the 3D model, we worked on incorporating elements related to her hidden background and duality and how to shape it into an appealing design. So, please do keep an eye out for these aspects. Attacks that reflect her personality and acrobatic movement based on Taido Reina employs an acrobatic fighting style rooted in Taido, using swift and brutal techniques such as knife-hand strikes, eye pokes, and scratching that reflect her character. She utilizes a special movement called Sentai to close the distance quickly and launch rushes, while Unsoku allows her to deliver powerful attacks with agile footwork, demonstrating a speedy and aggressive combat approach. In addition, Reina has somehow acquired techniques like Wind God Fist and Spinning Demon, synonymous with the Mishima-style karate, and even exhibits a power fighter aspect, delivering powerful moves from the Heaven’s Wrath stance once used by Heihachi, who is now deceased. Her offensive capabilities near walls, in particular, are among the most potent of all characters. A design that emphasizes the duality in Reina‘s character. We were eager to work with Ms. Mariko Shimazaki, who had previously contributed as a designer for characters like Kazumi and Josie for Tekken 7. Tekken 8 adds newcomer Reina
Gematsu Source
Tumblr media
Bandai Namco has released a new trailer for Tekken 8 revealing newcomer Reina as a playable character.
“Reina was a character conceived during Tekken 7’s story development a decade ago,” Tekken 8 director Kohei Ikeda said in a PlayStation Blog post. “She plays a vital role in Tekken 8’s story, The Dark Awakens. Despite her fashionable and charming appearance, she exudes a charismatic sense of evil, reflecting her character’s duality in both personality and fighting style.”
Here is more on Reina, via Ikeda:
Attacks That Reflect Her Personality and Acrobatic Movement Based on Taido
Reina employs an acrobatic fighting style rooted in Taido, using swift and brutal techniques such as knife-hand strikes, eye pokes, and scratching that reflect her character. Reina is a character that emphasizes duality in various aspects. To create a distinct counterpart to the powerful Mishima-style karate, we chose Taido as the second fighting style. Taido is known for its graceful and speedy movements, with sharp and agile attacks. When producing Reina’s Taido techniques, we collaborated with the renowned expert, Mr. Tetsuji Nakano, who has won the Taido World Championships four times. Mr. Nakano is not only knowledgeable in Taido but also in various other martial arts. His advice on brutal techniques helped bring out the distinctive features and personality in Reina’s movements even more.
A Design that Emphasizes the Duality in Reina’s Character
We were eager to work with Ms. Mariko Shimazaki, who had previously contributed as a designer for characters like Kazumi and Josie for Tekken 7. We contacted her to handle the design during the early stages of brainstorming character concepts and keywords, despite giving her the challenging task of capturing a genuine martial artist’s appearance with a bold fighting style that blends elements of Taido and Mishima-style karate, while being a young woman who appears somewhat mysterious and has that duality. In creating the 3D model, we worked on incorporating elements related to her hidden background and duality and how to shape it into an appealing design. So, please do keep an eye out for these aspects.
Tekken 8 is due out for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, and PC via Steam on January 26, 2024.

Annon-Guy: What would your idea of a good Fighting Game Story Mode be structured? How would you go about it im designing it?
So far, I think BlazBlue, Injustice and Mortal Kombat (9, X, 11 and 1) have the best fighting game story modes while incorporating the gameplay into the narative in my honest opinion. Even Tekken 8 appeared to takes notes and than some and I haven't even played the game yet!
While Guilty Gear Xrd (SIGN, Revelator, Rev 2) and StrIVe had a good story and fantastic cinematic presentation, it sadly loses points for having no gameplay. It says something when Arc System posted StrIVe's story mode on YouTube for people to watch if they didn't want the game. While the older Guilty Gear story modes are old fashioned, they still provide a good story on top of you ACTUALLY playing the fights out, no matter how ridiculous it may seem at points (like Axl Low being unable to jump due to overeating Jam's food... 😂).
As much as people have beef with some games for "not being interactive enough", there's such a thing as being "too interactive".
Let's put it this way, in the original Guilty Gear XX, story mode itself was a MAZE... and if you took the wrong route, you'd fight a super hard unkillable boss if you weren't careful.
Take my word for it... Reload and Accent Core hold your hand compared to the original "unpatched" GGXX. And that's STORY Mode... it's not even Mission mode, which the game is even MORE notorious for!
QTEs, button mashing sequences, stuff like Asura's Wrath... in my humble opinion all that interactivity is a bit overkill.
If a player wants to relax and enjoy the story, let them relax... don't make them jump through flaming hoops if they don't want to.
OPTIONS. That's what it boils down to.
OPTIONS... GIVE THE PLAYER OPTIONS TO CHOOSE TO FIGHT OR SKIP OR SAVE SOMEWHERE.
Let them experience the game their own way.
Even with Mortal Kombat 11, you can create a custom A.I. to fight the towers and story missions for you and just sit back and relax for that whole ordeal.
It doesn't always have to be a huge button mashing fest or super boss challenge or some twisted guessing game with random negative status effects thrown at you like snowballs from hell.
A little balance goes a long way, whether you specialize in action games, fighting games, or just want to sit and read like it's a Visual Novel (or in my case and preference, a comic book).
Soul Calibur 6 created the ingenious Mercenary System for precisely this reason... Hire Mercs to fight your battles for you... it makes things easy, lets you negotiate tougher challenges a bit, until you get what you came for. For tougher fights, you can prepare equipment ahead of time and strategize like it's an RPG.
When telling a story, the more options that story has, the better the experience.
And even if you want multiple "routes" to open up player creativity or just to hide a few secrets, there's ways to do that in a very structured manner.
Final Fantasy XV has multiple endings for its DLC, and the game lets you approach those in a very simple manner, you can even revisit some points easily based on where you last saved your game.
For more dramatic encounters, make it an "optional boss fight" with incentives if the player overcomes the challenge. Not that hard a concept to work out.
Capcom had some of the best rewards for defeating bosses in the past with their games, and such a thing would be no exception in games like Tekken as well. Even Darkstalkers.
But, like I said, some of the BEST stories come from games that don't think it's a fighting game at all... Libra of Souls in Soul Calibur 6 is a mode I will never stop lauding the praises of.
As a concept it is the true successor of the original Edge Master Mode from Soul Blade/Soul Edge, the very first Project Soul game.
I just think more fighting games need to be treated like RPGs, and more RPGs need to be treated like fighting games.

h-how..why... did they crucify Xiao like??? That's so random and omg poor girl what kind of leak is that?? Also Kazuya and Jin working together lord... whoever made these "leaks" was on crack methinks
They MUST'VE been on crack. Like there's so many hilarious things about it. The blatant Christianity symbolism. Like again, yes - devils and angels have always been a part of the series, and Unknown's levels had references to "heaven" and "hell" in the real Tag 2. But... that's literally as far as the "religious symbolism" goes in the entire series. To start throwing in crosses and stuff is a bit too blatant for Tekken's tastes, I feel. Also like why is Xiao being crucified anyway? Likely to lore Jin, but WHY CRUCIFIED???
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I'm guessing "Great Unknown" and "Omega Heihachi" were the ones to crucify Xiao??? Why. I dunno. Unknown looks like something you'd see back on deviantART in 2005. Also, despite the fact that the cutscene shows Kazuya and Jin teaming up, apparently Asuka is ALSO a part of this team????
Tumblr media
Also Heihachi's final form... jesus Christ. And like, maybe three teammates would be an alright concept except -
Tumblr media
There's screenshots of them fighting against two people???? Three against two???? And the player's the one with the advantage???? It's another thing that's just so fucking bizarre and isn't logical at all.
Also like the most illogical thing is Kazuya saying FUCK. WHEN WOULD THEY EVER SAY FUCK IN A TEKKEN GAME??? SERIOUSLY, IF KAZUYA SAYS FUCK IN TEKKEN 8 - I WOULD LITERALLY REACT LIKE THE ANGRY VIDEO GAME NERD DID.
youtube
(it says age restricted - but there's nothing bad other than the repeated use of the word "fuck" SDJFDSFJNDSF)
BUT LIKE... what amazes me so much about these "leaks" is that most leaks are usually just a picture of a fake character model/design, or a fake roster. but like??? This "leak" was SO FUCKING ELABORATE. It's like the creator of this had a whole entire fanfic thought out. I mean, to crucify xiao, all the christian symbolism, the fact that there's a FAKE CUTSCENE IN WHICH JIN, KAZUYA, AND ASUKA ALL JOIN FORCES. LIKE THIS "LEAKER" HAD A WHOLE STORY MODE PLANNED OUT AND EVERYTHING.
THEY MUST'VE BEEN SMOKING CRACK.

Can I just say that I really love Jun's design? It's very Final Fantasy-esque and the color palette is very pleasing to my eyes especially I have fondness for characters in white. Normally, I'm hype for Tekken for Bears, Devil Jin and Xiaoyu so me being hype for the game due to another character instead of the listed above is new to me. I hope Harada and the team give her justice this time and that plot hole of her disappearance can be explained
Jun's Tekken 8 Design
Hey! I'm so glad you're looking forward to Jun, I am too! I'm really glad she's returning in monochrome too, it feels like an important depiction of her character to always favour black and white, especially mostly white colour palettes.
I have to admit I wasn't over the moon with her design when I first saw it. I don't dislike it or anything, it's just not what I'd imagined a returning Jun will look like. I'm still not totally clear on whether she will return as a vision or in person. The interview at the world tour yesterday said she is "missing" and not dead, implying that they do want her to physically return. I'd be more cool with this outfit if it's how Jin remembered her when he was fifteen, but if she's actually returning from being missing, I'd love to have had a more, "out of the wilds" look, combined with some more aikido or miko look, maybe a little like this one of Asuka's, which looks like traditional aikido gi top and hakama but is reminiscent of miko clothing to me:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Asuka's p1 outfit in TK5:DR | traditional aikido uniform | a miko priestess
That said, I do like Jun's concept art, and the details that went into it are really beautiful. They released it all yesterday at the world tour interview and it's really nice to be able to see all the thought and detail that went into it.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
There's something gentler and more ethereal in the concept art that doesn't quite translate for me into the render, but I definitely don't dislike how she looks. I'm really curious to see what her other outfits will be like. It would be cool to have some of her more practical outfits back too, like her karate gi from Tekken Tag Tournament. Either way, I'm very excited and looking forward to what role she will play in the story. Cheers for the ask!

Have you played MK1 yet?
I'm v broke so unfortunately I won't be getting it at full price. I wanna get Assassin's Creed Mirage, Resident Evil 4's Separate Ways DLC, The Tomb Raider I-III Remasters and Tekken 8 so MK1 is not a priority.
I have watched early access gameplay from Matt McMuscles and Maximilian Dood, among others, though and I'm very pleased to say that the story is actually much better than I thought it'd be.
Without getting into spoiler territory I'll say that they're going for an overall more comedic tone, which I feel is a much better fit than the overly dramatic one they had opted for in the past, and that characters like Baraka or Reptile, the series' designated jobbers, actually have personalities and backstories for the first time... ever!
I do feel like character design is a downgrade from MK11, the cameos in particular look way too ugly and less detailed than the main characters, and the whole concept seems too goofy to me in general, but on the other hand almost all the stages look gorgeous - a really unique take, considering how most MK stages are usually all doom and gloom.
Small things that still bother me are the Japanese god of thunder Raiden being randomly Chinese, Czech Smoke also being seemingly Chinese out of the blue as well and NRS still not knowing how to pronounce Raiden, Ryu and even learning a new word to mispronounce, Yakuza. Like, it's embarrassing at this point, do better.
Overall the game looks fun but not like something I have to get right away, especially with Street Fighter 6 already out and Tekken 8 on the horizon. I'll wait for the inevitable ultra super duper wow deluxe edition to go on sale.

The Nintendo Switch has continued to be a major success for the video game company and their platform has some of the best fighting games in the industry. The genre really has found a great home on the Switch, which uses its unique Joy-Con controllers and gameplay mechanics to bring out the full potential of these games.
RELATED: The 10 Best Sports Games On The Nintendo 64
Although not all of these titles are exclusive to the console, those games owned by Nintendo certainly give the Switch an advantage. What's more, the titles that are available on other consoles still play fantastically on this wholly unique platform that players have come to love.
10 Mortal Kombat 11
Tumblr media
The Mortal Kombat series has gone from strength to strength in recent years and with its cinematic reboot upcoming on HBO Max it seems like a good time to revisit Mortal Kombat 11, currently available on the Nintendo Switch. While not a Switch exclusive, it makes great use of the platform.
The game has been praised for its narrative, diverse roster, and even for some of its surprising DLC. Those who own the Switch have not been left out, though, with players able to experience what may be the measuring stick for the rest of the genre on the unique console.
9 Power Rangers: Battle For The Grid
Tumblr media
The crossover of two Japanese heavyweights, Nintendo and Power Rangers is certainly something to be celebrated. The fast-paced title really works on the handheld console, with fans praising its wide range of heroes from the beloved franchise.
The game uses a tag-team mechanic few others utilize, and while some of the sound design and visuals might be off at times, the gameplay itself is as fun as the show. There are a lot of both simple and complex elements to get used to, especially in regards to the use of more specialist maneuvers, but fans of both the genre and the brand should check this title out.
8 Pokkén Tournament DX
Tumblr media
A mixture of both Tekken and the Pokémon franchise, this fighting game has everything a player could want out of the genre. Featuring heavy hitters like MewTwo and Pikachu, this is a title actually updated from the WiiU and brought to Switch consoles.
RELATED: The 10 Best Sports Games On Nintendo Systems
It's brash and loud but a lot of fun to play, with simple mechanics allowing anyone to easily pick up the title. Despite its straightforward approach, this game puts a fresh coat of paint on both fighting games in general and indeed on Pokémon, which has very few titles in the genre for fans to explore. Split-screen and online play both give this title some variation in how audiences can interact with it.
7 Super Smash Bros. Ultimate
Tumblr media
Hailed as one of the kings of the genre, the Super Smash Bros. series has always impressed fans with its wide range of Nintendo characters and its compelling campaigns. A Super Smash Bros fight feels different from other games in the genre thanks to its many wacky gameplay elements.
Super Smash Bros: Ultimate on Nintendo Switch might be the best of the franchise. It's an absolutely huge game, from its range of locations to its packed roster, and there's a certain magic to the oddball combinations that players can make in this title alone.
6 Streets Of Rage 4
Tumblr media
Streets Of Rage is available on other platforms, but the Switch manages to allow players to feel more in on the action than Xbox, PC, and PlayStation. This is a return to form for a franchise over two decades old, with updated visuals, bringing the game to a new generation.
The mechanics feel similar in a way, but while so many other titles provide a classic arena matchup style of gameplay, this is more of a step back in time to the days of the side-scroller. Energetic and featuring some great combos, while the campaign is straightforward, players will keep coming back for the gameplay itself.
5 Arms
Tumblr media
Nintendo has an exclusive here that works as a fighting title, as well as both a boxing and a party game. Arms is completely wacky in every conceivable way, with its colorful visuals providing just a hint as to how much fun the title is to play.
RELATED: 10 Best Nintendo GameCube Games That Still Hold Up Today
It's incredibly chaotic but easy to get involved with. The comically sized boxing gloves and stretching arms provide the damage in these fighting arenas, as players battle it out in a set of varied albeit slightly uninspired locations. The game is well-balanced, though, meaning the frustration of other games in the genre is well avoided.
4 Street Fighter: 30th Anniversary Collection
Tumblr media
Few games are as iconic as the Street Fighter series, which celebrated its 30th Anniversary in 2018. Nintendo and Capcom put together a very special package for Switch fans that included the franchise's famous titles, bringing them to the next generation of players.
The game also boasted concept art and arcade-realistic gameplay mechanics that would have certainly taken older fans back to their youth. It's a must-have title for the Switch and one that demonstrates how much fun some of these classic games can still be today.
3 Dragon Ball FighterZ
Tumblr media
Nintendo was well aware that thanks to the popularity of the anime show, new fans might be trying out fighting games for the first time. The Dragon Ball title might be one of the best introductory games to the genre, yet it still appeals to veterans all the same.
The visual style chosen for the title meshes perfectly with what fans have come to expect in both the comics and the on-screen sides of this universe. The movesets are familiar, the roster is diverse and the pace is just as quick as it should be for these lethal warriors in battle..
2 Naruto Shippuden: Ultimate Ninja Storm Trilogy
Tumblr media
The Naruto titles have been varied in terms of fan response, yet this three-pack brings the whole series to the Nintendo Switch with updated graphics and all of the DLC from the entire trilogy. The result is a title that's sure to make any fan of the franchise happy.
What's more, the 3D style of gameplay that develops through the series is quite refreshing compared to some of the 2D scrollers available. With some unique combos and a gripping story, this is for players who want to get sucked into an ongoing campaign within the genre.
1 Kirby Fighters 2
Tumblr media
Sure, Kirby might be available in Super Smash Bros.... but why have one Kirby when you can have almost two dozen? The game allows players to take on all sorts of Kirbies, from a new Wrestler style to Bell and Ninja. Each type of Kirby has its own unique gameplay.
Kirby Fighters 2 is a basic title but one that families can enjoy together. It's a great party game and also boasts both iconic Nintendo locations and some other well-known characters from the Kirby franchise, including the beloved Meta Knight. This is a classic title to have on the Nintendo Switch, which really celebrates the company and the genre.
