So watcher keeps their patreon and the supporters over there have to pay twice if they want to see everything? Or will the patreon content be available on the streamer as well? This is confusing.

So my understanding of the situation the Patrons are in right now is that the ONLY benefit to continuing to pay for the patreon subscription is that they still get access to Watcher Podcasts.

So yes, the Patrons have to pay "double", essentially. Probably what's going to happen is that a lot of people on the patreon cancel their subscription. It simply isn't worth it anymore.

And as for whether the exclusive content on the patreon is moving to the streamer, I don't think so. I scanned the website for exactly this when I looked at it. I'm pretty sure if they were moving the patreon stuff over there, then there would be more Watcher Weekly and behind the scenes at Watcher videos on the streamer.

I agree it's very confusing. Seeing posts from patrons on here and then also finding some patrons in the comments section of the YouTube video, it sounds like the patrons are just as upset as we are. Like... the whole point of the patreon was to help fund them because we liked THEM as creators and didn't want them behind a paywall. And so if I had been a patron, this decision would feel even more like a betrayal because Watcher is simply saying they weren't good enough.

Like I genuinely don't know how to emphasize that those 12,122 people (last I checked) that subscribed to be patrons were doing that so that the 3 Million people who were subscribed to the free YouTube channel wouldn't have to.

Usually when a creator makes a patreon, the understanding is that the content Simply Would Not Exist without them. There are plenty of YouTubers and other creators who rely on their patrons to make the content worth the time and resources to make, and if the patrons disappeared then the creations would simply stop happening, the creator would have to find a new project or potentially a new job. It's essentially the same relationship you have between a commissioner and a creator. Patrons give the money for the creator to create what they make best.

But this decision from Watcher makes it feel like they're looking at their Entire Audience this way. They see the difference between 12k patrons and 3M subscribers on YouTube, and they feel that if they forced those 3M to pay, then they could lose the ads and do what they want with production.

But those 12k patrons were there by grace. With kindness. Those 3M subscribers were there because they were welcomed with love, not because they could obviously afford to be a patron and they were just chosing not to be. (Because apparently anyone and everyone can afford this, right?) The 3M subscribers are not a funding resource to be mined. They weren't an untapped fountain that was holding back the water.

We loved them. We thought we were respected for just being there. It's not even that we feel entitled to free content, it's that if Buzzfeed had been behind a paywall, most of us never would have heard of these guys. And with this move being primarily about production quality, it implies that things of "quality" must be behind a super expensive paywall. And that simply isn't true.

I've even already seen some YouTubers discussing this move, saying they have more than 25 employees and they manage to pay them. YouTubers who know how to do the math on how much money each Watcher video would make, and they they should be turning a profit with each episode. The quality should be possible without betraying the fans this way.

But I've already talked a lot here, and this is waaaaay beyond the question that I was asked lol. It's just that while the average viewer of Watcher is disappointed and upset about this, the patrons already had money in this, and they're in such a strange place now.

ohhh how delightful to receive this! I haven't written about them in awhile.

honestly i think it was kind of bad. max was incredibly hurt that daniel was leaving the team, leaving him as a teammate, and ultimately figured that daniel wanted to leave him as a boyfriend also. how could daniel still want to be romantically involved if he was leaving the team? leaving the team because of max?

daniel tried to explain that he didn't want to break up but he couldn't be with red bull anymore professionally because he had other goals and dreams. it was hard and messy for daniel, too, because he loves max the person, but max the teammate made things hard.

i think they probably took some time apart; max had a really hard time reconciling the idea that daniel could still love him but not want to be teammates. in his mind he couldn't get past that. how could daniel leave red bull because of him, but still want to be in a relationship?

i'd say it wasn't miscommunication because daniel tried to be as clear as he could with his intentions. he loves max. wants to be with max, still wants to go home with max every day. but max really couldn't separate his personal life from his work life. he's still so young and has growing and maturing to do, and the first few days and nights after daniel telling max what he was doing were really hard. lots of arguing, and talking into the night, and lots of crying on both parts, and max being unable to understand or accept that they could still be together through this.

daniel went back to his apartment. he never officially moved out of his place and into max's but one day he'd just... stopped going home. now being 'home' feels foreign because there's no max, no cats, just cold empty loneliness.

they never truly broke up or had that 'this is over' conversation but they spent a few weeks apart over summer break, trying to pretend to their friends like they weren't absolutely miserable, and being unable to tell their friends and families why. they're not really out to anyone but their trainers, who were really in the need to know category.

daniel's first year at renault was rough on both him and max relationship-wise. during summer break they could pretend everything was mostly the same, and they agreed to try to work through it and be together through the season. max was trying his best but he was still sad, still hurt, still feeling such conflict inside about how he could feel that daniel loves him but also believe that somehow he must not if he left red bull. it's always been hard for max to separate work and personal life, because driving has been his life for all of it.

i think ups and downs for that first year were common. times where they'd agreed to be together and get back to their lives together, and times where max's confidence was just shaken. he'd tried so, so hard to be brave and make his feelings known to daniel in the first place. he'd made his first move when he was just barely nineteen and been rejected spectacularly; embarrassed and heartbroken, but determined nonetheless. he'd waited for daniel to be okay with their age difference. pretended everything was cool for an entire year until he was twenty and daniel couldn't argue he was a kid, anymore. he'd waited, and tried so hard to be chill. he'd never committed himself like this to anything but racing, before. daniel had been it for him. two years together and he'd never so much as glanced at another man - devoted and in love and obsessed with daniel.

it devastated max to have daniel go to another team, and not be together all the time anymore. what if daniel met someone else? what if daniel realized he was wasting his time with max - too young, too focused, too obsessed with being the best, too immature. what if he found someone else, more his age, more exciting, interested in more things than racing. then what?

so. yeah. that first year was rough. max had to work hard on his own confidence in their relationship. it wasn't that he didn't trust daniel, it was mostly that he worried daniel would realize max wasn't all that special. he had to work hard on understanding that daniel could, and did, still love max despite not wanting to be on the same team anymore.

it wasn't easy and they had lots of fights, and tears, and hard talks, but i think when 2020 hit that made them really have to sort it out for good. lockdowns and shutdowns meant nothing but time together to work it out.

and they did! it might have taken a year of ups and downs, back and forth, together and apart at times, but they slowly got there. were committed to each other. and max figured it out. he still never wanted daniel to leave red bull. he still wishes daniel hadn't. but max is slowly learning that work and life don't have to be the same thing. he's learning.

it'll be six years for them this fall. six years. nearly a quarter of max's life. they survived 2019. they'll survive anything.

hmmmmmm no i don't think so? like. after what happened during doomcoming, i think she was very Concerned™, shocked, maybe unsettled. she knows Shauna is capable of betraying her but now she knows Shauna is capable of much more violence than expected.

but i don't think Jackie was ever afraid that Shauna would physically hurt her. in dramatic lesbian fashion, Jackie would think that no physical harm Shauna was cpaable of could hurt more than the emotional hurt she had already inflicted on her.

i have many thoughts on romangerri being kind of queer yes tomgreg is a gay ship for straight people and romangerri is a straight ship for gay people. roman is a bi disaster and gerri’s got secrets and a whole huge past we aren’t privy to so yeah yeah i accept this as bi4bi but it doesn’t really matter because it’s also capitalist4capitalist and their combined crimes and personal flaws cancel out the queer rep. love their non-normative filth. love it.

gerri and tom’s mom are both lawyers. you can’t prove they didn’t fuck.

in terms of other stuff, my fave interpretations are:

- it’s a bit oedipal but also roman has always just thought she’s hot. he’s had a crush on her since he was a child

- gerri fucked logan at some point

- it’s fin-dom as well as fem-dom lol

- roman can actually fuck her eventually

- shiv and the old guard suss it out early on. kendal and logan do not.

- gerri never hits him no matter how much he begs

- she started the whole thing because she is terminally curious and a closet freak but she humoured him as a way of securing a roy to use in her professional power struggle. roman fell hard and fast. post-canon i think she admits she’s got a soft spot, but it takes ages for it to be actually fully reciprocal.

please tell me your thoughts about The Fears

1. To me the corruption is the scariest cause wdym there's something inside me slowly rotting me inside to out and there's nothing I can do about it apart from let it take me and it hurts and there's no known cure (btw I am deathly afraid of getting cancer)

2. Flesh isn't as scary as corruption cause like it could be removed from the idea of life, we used to go to the Bangladeshi butchers and watch then cut slabs of frozen fish using their huge machines and shit but also gore and body horror kinda terrifies me, it goes hand in hand with medical horror, like someone's been sliced in half and you realise just how fragile human life is, how at the end we're just organs that are pumping blood and moving chemicals around.

3. Slaughter is less scary than the others cause it could be comforting being killed as a collective but also the theme of death continues, the idea of masses of bodies is so very human in it's causes and consequences and doesn't feel so fictional

4. Buried is less scary than the others cause it's less about death but listen. my entire life I've been terrified that I'm just gonna get stuck somewhere. Like I once couldn't get a churi (bracelet) off my wrist and I got so panicked I just smashed my wrist against a wall to break it off. So yah.

5. The stranger is less scary than the buried cause I could run away from the stranger but the idea that this person I know is not at all who I thought they were is bone chilling. It feels like betrayal at its core.

6. Dark is less scary than the stranger cause over the years I've gotten slightly less scared of the dark but I've gotten more scared of people not being who I thought they were. The dark is comforting, it's a sensory neutral and a life saver on some days. Other days i sprint up the stairs cause I'm scared the murderers hiding in the cupboards will stab me.

7. Mmm now that I think about it I'd probably put web a little higher cause I despise the idea of being manipulated, like don't fucking do that to me, if you want something just fucking ask. But maybe I was right to put it here cause it mostly just makes me irritated than scared.

8. This is the mm kinda chill territory I think cause spiral is just how I spend my life, my brain is not a fun place to be so yeah I'd enjoy being the incarnation of indescribable for the rest of my existence but also the idea of losing my control over myself is a little scary despite my having so much experience in it

9. The eye is ok, I feel some comfort in being watched over, never been left alone, constantly needing information like I get it, I was an autistic 7 year old gorging myself on horrible histories once. But also like if eyes started growing on me I'd start screaming and never stop but I think that's more body horror than beholding

10. The vast is so fucking comforting like the idea that I could just be inconsequential in the face of everything, I could maybe just relax and float in the nothingness for a while. But then also I'm scared of drowning so like I'm bringing arm bands

11. Everything ends. I'm good with consistency and the idea that everything ends makes me feel like there's something to keep going for. I'm not good with endings but what comes after, I am extremely skilled at.

12. I adore the desolation. Oh how I've fantasised about giving it all up, watching it burn before me, the cruel satisfaction in it. I like how quiet everything is after it's been destroyed. A clean slate.

13. Yeah so I have re occurring dreams about being hunted. I think it's half the idea about being wanted enough for someone to pursue me if I run but also the comfort of survival mode. The comfort of knowing the fight won't ever end.

14. The lonely. Oh man. Let's just say I'm on 40mg of fluoxetine for a reason.

Interesting question! :0 Let me see here...

Alex and Maru have enormous potential. Alex showing off, maybe on the beach or working out, hurts himself. He doesn't want to scare his grandparents so he heads straight to the clinic by himself. At first he rejects Maru's help-- he wants to see Doctor Harvey-- but Maru patiently explains that Harvey is tending to the Farmer and isn't available.

Maru ends up having to give Alex stitches and he takes it like a champ. Until she tells him he can't use his arm for anything too intense for a while so no gridball or working out. Alex protests and Maru shrugs, saying he can do whatever he likes but if he doesn't listen to her, he'll end up back in the clinic.

It doesn't take long for Alex to trust her medical knowledge and, in time, he's actually more comfortable being seen by her than by Harvey in most cases.

This is fun, actually, I could do a few more match ups in the future :D!!

Richie and the werewolf symbolism. Thoughts because I love it. On one had silly goofy funny character. On the other hand Richie seeing himself like this monster.

I LOVE werewolf!Richie. I was afraid of werewolves when I was younger and somehow wanted to be one? But I love werewolves now and so it makes my hyper fixations all!!!!

The symbolism is beautiful. He has this part of him that he cannot control and he feels out of control, just like a werewolf trying to keep control over the full moon.

And, if we’re going with bisexual Richie, he’s struggling with these two parts of himself, one of which he’s desperately afraid of. He doesn’t want to be different. He’s already bullied and seen as a loser (and not the good kind). He thinks secret coming out would destroy him and it’s the same for a werewolf. They absolutely cannot change or come out with their identity either.

I swear, I could write a novel on this. He’s afraid of HIMSELF. He’s afraid of who he is and what he’s hiding and this part of himself that isn’t accepted. It’s terrifying and so the physical version of it is his exact fair. It’s enough to give him nightmares he won’t talk about to a soul.

OH BOY, nonny....here's where I reveal my spicy onion that ME1 is the best.

I just have a thing for a good Beginning story, you know? A strong introduction to a universe and its core cast, a simple mysterious problem that you Know is going to unfold into something much more complicated, being able to see this rich new world unfold, the actual finding of the found family, etc. etc. And ME1 gave us all of this in such a dazzling way. Sure, gameplay is a little dated, but you all know I'm not in it for the gameplay anyway. I'm not sure my experience playing ME2 or ME3 paralleled how I felt playing ME1. Both were excellent as well, but there's a special tug on my heartstrings when I think about the first installment.

Even spicier onion of mine: ME1 > ME3 > ME2. But those are words for another post!

In actuality his partners generally have homes of their own and not every single one of them is at his house all the time and there's also his base camp so he's totally capable of making room, he just doesn't want to). 💜: Perihelion's favourite memory of the pianist is probably every time she trusted him during playing with soul. He loves being trusted, it gives him the opportunity to demonstrate his care through keeping that trust.

The pianist's favourite memory – (and this will show my "forgot to screenshot pretty much all of playing with soul") is probably how steadfast he was when she showed back up again and asked him for help – she showed up and he was not only delighted to see her and welcoming but offered immediate material support. Honestly the fact you found us though Wife's fic is so fitting I am sure she is the reason we call it Sketchbook to this day .
