OUGHHH sorry to be on anon, I need to make a proper tumblr to talk to people in hermitblr but currently I only have a sideblog and am not gonna expose my ten year old main aklsdjhfdklas, but I am the author of the romeo and juliet au tysm you made my heart grow warm and fuzzy and then explode I've never seen my fic mentioned out in te wild before <33333

to fuel ur theatre au brainworms, in the romeo and juliet au: mercutio is bdubs + benvolio is cleo, and jimmy and joel are sampson and gregory (two capulets from the start of the play they're such dumbasses my absolute beloveds), so we've got the design philosophy of the montagues and the capulets mirroring the aesthetics of the family and the bad boysss. (I never came up with a design for bad boy!Ren when he steps in as Tybalt instead of Grian during show week but I feel it's not too hard to imagine hehe)

but also (separately from that au, because I saw other talk of the life series and theatre and plays on ur blog) I constantly think about the life series as a greek tragedy, specifically in relation to the purpose of the series' inevitable tragedy being catharsis for the watchers (with the watchers also being literally the viewers). we love to see them suffer!!! but there's also a bunch of politics surrounding greek tragedies that Plato and Aristotle had discourse about that you can rope into it and tldr; my understanding is catharsis was Aristotle's answer to Plato's concern that tragedies' emotive affect could encourage rebellion against the state, with Aristotle saying that instead the cycle of pity and fear and eventual catharsis felt by the audience has a "purifying" effect that's like an emotional release from those emotions instead. Then with the extra layer of lore the fandom has surrounding Grian running away from the watchers, if Grian designs the life games, to the end of sating the watchers' need to emotionally feed (thank you Martyn for that piece of lore I'm stealing it jkfhdsk), the purpose of the games could be the cleansing of the watchers' discomfort with him running away and being a player and maintaining the status quo where Grian is actually the one in control !!!! even if he makes himself suffer. also different characters "curses" as their harmatia!! And, if we interpret the watchers as a fictional force AND the viewers simultaneously, then the chorus could absolutely be watchers who are vocal in the fandom - removed from the "players" (and OH how I love the dual meaning of minecraft players and players as in actors) but providing additional commentary and insight into what's happening that further feeds the emotional experience of the audience !!

in order of worst to best we have-

F - satosai. get out of my face, satosai.

full disclosure though- i used to really like satosai, but then i grew as a person and part of that is realizing satosai is painful amounts of overrated and mid (im joking obviously, though i do truthfully dislike it, no shade to you if you do. plus i still look at ship content of it sometimes because it’s there in mass amounts and they’re cute sometimes). also some satosai fans are so annoyingggg (you know the ones) and will go after other saiki ships and be like “anyways satosai better” and i do genuinely think you’re annoying and should get off of my page if you do that.

E - kuboyasu x teruhashi. it goes in E tier for “Eh?” because i do not get it

i have nothing to say about them, to the point that it’s not even funny. this is like, a very sober crackship to me. im sure someone who does really like this ship could sell me on it but it hasn’t happened yet. i see this ship around sometimes and just get so confused. i do not see the chemistry

D - kubosai. even more confusing than the last one in some ways but i kind of see the charm of it.

again though, nothing much to say. they work aesthetically, like—the bones of a good ship are here, but there’s no meat to tear into. in their canon/close to canon versions i cannot see it at all (probably because i like other ships with both of them a lot more), but in a good fic or au i do very much indulge in the BAMF x BAMF content. yeah idk what else to say, they’re so low on here because i just do not think about them as a romantic pairing or seek it out. i don’t know why it’s so popular (unless there’s some solo chapter with them as a duo that ive never seen)

C - imuteru, hii x satou, and makoku (with one u). yeah, I know, C tier for “Contreversial Take” i suppose.

OK LET ME EXPLAIN OFFICER-

imuteru used to be higher up on the list, but then terusai took over my body and soul, and i just can’t really see them together anymore. whenever i think of imuteru i think of unrequited imuteru on imu’s end and that makes me sad :( for some reason this same effect didn’t happen with teruchiyo or mikoteru but that might be that those two have other ships with the characters aswell idk

satou x hii would be further up because i do really like them together and i think the whole luck balancing thing is super cute, i just don’t think about them enough to put them higher. yes, your boos are understandable, and your tomato throwing. someday i’ll decide to read a fic about them and it’ll probably become B tier idk

.. ok now you REALLY HAVE TO HEAR ME OUT. makoto x kusuo could be so funny. this is a true crackship, and one laced with the absolutely most fatal drug cocktail you’ve ever seen. in a world where makoto isn’t literally a walking incest joke and is just a protective and pretty idiot it slaps so hard. kokomi would hate it, kuusuke would hate it, his parents would be questioning how kusuo managed to bag a famous actor without mind control. it is utter chaos and so so much better for it. i think they should be more popular and it’s probably my worst saiki k take. still, putting them any higher is basically saiki k fandom sacrilege atp so.

B - nendou x saiko, mikosai (+mikoteru and teruchiyo which weren’t on the tierlist for some reason), kaisai, and yumekai. now we’re getting somewhere. i quite like all of these.

nendou x saiko is just very fun to me. idiot for idiot but it’s in the romcom rich guy who doesn’t know shit meets guy who doesn’t know shit either. silly x tries to be serious but can’t really pull it off. i think they can both mutually make each others lives better + their interactions in canon were great. i wish they were more popular

oh boy mikosai!! oh boy, mikosai… mikosai is the first sight of my polyship i like to call “psychicshipping” which is where i ship all of the PK psychickers together romantically as a weird kind of OT4. i have so much to say on mikosai and a lot of thoughts about them, and i do genuinely like them as a pairing a lot, BUT. it ranks lower than the other psychicships because the fandom put a bad taste in my mouth with it. often, i see a lot of people hating on terusai in favor of mikosai or saying that mikosai is somehow more valid and im like “?”. it often feels like mikosai is the het saiki ship for teruhashi haters, which SUCKS because i do see the vision. like, THIS:

this is great, yk? they look good together and the dynamic is great, but the way the fandom treats and characterizes them is not even close to how they should be, at least to me it’s not. this image sums up my feelings on them pretty well:

closing thoughts: i should be the only one allowed to ship mikosai because only i understand them NEXT

mikoteru + teruchiyo bonus round because i like them too and they deserve to be here: these ships are both great in my professional opinion, but their paragraphs get combined because i don’t have a lot of vested interest in them specifically despite really liking them. I think teruhashi’s problems could all be fixed if she had at least one girlfriend (preferably more) and that is my only thoughts really. i get very happy when i see people making ship content for either of these, please make more yuri content with teruhashi now thank you !!

kaisai!! this was the first saiki k ship i read a fic for and the first ship i enjoyed. it’s very nostalgic to me because of that. to me they give “greasy gamer who could be blown over by a ghost of wind boyfriend who likes getting himself into trouble x stoic but secretly sweet boyfriend who subtly protects him” which is a rare and overlooked dynamic i think, and something you can’t really get from kubokai. kubokai might still be better but that doesn’t mean kaidou doesn’t have two hands now does it? closing thoughts: i think they’re very cute and need more people to see that, romantically or platonically.

yumekai. i think they should’ve been canon in the end idc idc. i might like other ships with these two more but that does not mean i won’t acknowledge how much i like them. they are honestly one of the best het ships in the entire fandom and need more recognition!! they can be angsty mutual pinning. they can be toothrottingly fluffy. they can be so infuriatingly stupid (they are always stupid but shush). they can be the incarnation of young love. they can and should grow old together. the only reason they aren’t higher up is because, like i said before, i like other ships with either of them so much already so there’s not enough room in my heart for them 😞

A - mikosuka (plus aikechi and torikechi bonus rounds that will both be getting their own paragraphs this time), saikechi, torisai, kubokai, and nendou x hairo. OH YEAH BABYY! all of these are solid and the fandom hasn’t ruined them, in fact all of the stuff ive seen of them slaps. 10/10

mikosuka. please be more popular aaa!! the only reason it’s not is because of how much toritsuka got done dirty in canon for the “pervert character” trope- and how much the fandom just despises him. they’re hilarious in a “married couple who do nothing but fight all the time but everyone can tell they love each other anyways” way to me, not to mention how they’re also a part of psychicshipping. i do think they work better as part of a polycule with saiki to center them, but i saw a post about how aiura could’ve been mistaken and toritsuka might’ve actually been hinted as her soulmate and it’s been a majority of my thoughts since. i think they should get married after a long journey of selfdiscovery for them both where at the end of it they decide they both like life better with each other. i think they should stay in a “will they won’t they” like idiot love interests in a bad but popular tv show forever. i live laugh love mikosuka. i think they both deserve better (mostly aiura but toritsuka too in some ways). closing thoughts: brain running wild all the time 24/7 for these guys forever and ever.

aikechi. i hadn’t really thought about them before making contact with @/no-psi-nan’s posts about them but now my eyes are OPENED!! honestly before that i just saw them in the polypsychiccule as connected via their mutual love for saiki but not with each other directly, but now they are so much more than that to me. he’s the right amount of calm to nicely contrast her passionate fire in a way that the other two just aren’t. they are the pinacle of competent 4 competent while still being idiots in their own ways. aiura shows a picture of him to someone and says “this is my loser pissboy husband. i love him so much”

torikechi. i started liking them in a similar way that i started liking aikechi but the vibes with them are so very different than aikechi. compared to toritsuka, akechi is the cool one and that is crazy 2 me. really really dumb x only a little bit dumb but extremely unhinged in other ways. akechi can finally talk at someone who and be halfway listened to without annoying the other person because of toritsuka being used to ghosts randomly appearing to talk to him all the time and he is ecstatic. toritsuka is just happy to be here and also very confused tbh.

saikechi. what’s there not to like about saikechi tbh. a lot of canon backing and the childhood friends trope? peak. the potential that this ship has for angst and hurt/comfort is sososo good gahhh!! akechi being torn up about saiki leaving and saiki feeling guilty. saiki thinking that he’s done something horrible and not expecting forgiveness, but receiving it anyway :((( aaaaa!!! “you really shouldn’t forgive me. you should hate me” x “i already forgave you, and how could i ever hate you when i love you so much?”. like??? hello??? they make me cry. they make me so happy. they can help each other heal and become better. they could even make each other worse if you play your cards right (you’d be evil for it tho). closing thoughts: screaming crying shaking sobbing throwing up clawing the ground and punching my pillow because of how much i care about them

Best Underrated Anime Group K Round 1: #K2 vs #K7

#K2: A show where any universe/plot is possible

The series is based on a manhua where the main characters are drawn as stick figures, so they can be placed in any situation, essentially making different AUs canon while any genre is possible. Some of these stories have overarching plots (they’re sort of like actors), some are more slice-of-life, and some have more hard-hitting moments of angst or occasionally cute, romantic stories between the leads: the mild-mannered Beryl (Green) and the easily-embarrassed Sapphire (Blue).

In this show where each episode is set in a different world, how would they encounter each other time and again?

#K7: A story of children who want to be acknowledged

Painted in red, the word "VON" is all that is left behind after a terrorist attack on a nuclear facility in Japan. The government is shattered by their inability to act, and the police are left frantically searching for ways to crack down the perpetrators. The public are clueless—until, six months later, a strange video makes its way onto the internet. In it, two teenage boys who identify themselves only as "Sphinx" directly challenge the police, threatening to cause destruction and mayhem across Tokyo. Unable to stop the mass panic quickly spreading through the city and desperate for any leads in their investigation, the police struggle to act effectively against these terrorists, with Detective Kenjirou Shibazaki caught in the middle of it all.

#K2: Beryl and Sapphire (Xiaolü He Xiaolan)

It’s genuinely just such a cool concept! Getting to see these characters in practically any story/setting while still featuring the (usually same) main characters means you still get attached to the main cast, but you really get a diverse range of plots and ideas.

You may find yourself getting super attached to one (as I did for the Robo-Beryl arc, because I liked the character of Robo-Beryl but I also found Sapphire’s shyness/crushing adorable), and many of even the shortest ones are really interesting.

The OP even features them as actors and the title cards are film clapboards, which is such a cool way to tie in the main set-up!

Plus, because the manhua features them as stick figures, Ocarina (the original creator of Beryl and Sapphire) has way more room to explore deep ideas or just silly jokes; the flexibility of stick figures means we get lots of deep, philosophical writing/dialogue, and the donghua adapts that quite well.

Beryl is fun and Sapphire is super cute, and I love seeing how they interact in different universes/stories (and yes, they are very shippable!). Their default design is technically male, but sometimes they’re female too.

Some of the storylines are also super creative and really really do just punch you in the gut with feels. I don’t think I’ll ever forget some of the more tragic arcs…

Yet at the end of the day, Beryl and Sapphire is a really cute donghua, with a lot of feel-good stories to it! It even finally came back after like 4 years with season 2, which focuses on one of the over-arching arcs (the Demon King Beryl one), and we’re still getting discussions of deeper ideas alongside comedy, and Beryl and Sapphire are as cute as ever!

The new art style is quite pretty and hey, if you’re a fan of the playful, teasing (yet still can be rather emotionally reserved) type and the easily blushy type, Beryl and Sapphire may just be for you! 😉

The big thing to this show is that the directors are Shinichirō Watanabe and Yoko Kanno, aka the team behind Cowboy Bebop. But in all seriousness, the show still haunts me and the music can still bring tears to my eyes. The art is incredible, and the characters are tragic. Is there an "original" au for Jax and Mia? And for the this means war au, does Jax help the remaining humans? Befriends others besides Mia? And the big question, what happened to Jax?

THIS IS LONG SO IT'S GOING UNDER A READMORE

The original universe for Jax and Mia is the ride or die universe where giants and humans exist in an integrated society. There's shrinking and growing technology to make things like furniture, food and clothes for the 2 species without too much material waste. Shrinking/growing technology is not used on living things as it is deemed too risky.

Jax is a giant that was born with a birth defect that made him Way too big to safely live among the other giants and humans (giants are around 150ft and Jax is Jax Sized) so since the government is scared of what he potentially can do, they isolate him in a house they grow to his size and keep him in the middle of nowhere where they check on him periodically to make sure he isn't going to go on a rampage any time soon. He's told he isn't allowed to go into populated areas or be seen by other people to avoid mass panic.

They also eventually put a prototype of the shrinking technology into him so he can shrink down to human size and go to the city for food and necessities rather than just relying solely on the government for food and income but given the faulty nature of this technology, it's uncomfortable for him to use and he can't shrink for long periods of time.

Jax wants to be an actor but due to the complications around his existence and the fact that he can't stay reliably shrunken down at movie sets, he settles with voice acting from home until an eccentric movie director finds an old news article about his birth and decides that he Needs Jax to play the villain in his upcoming movie because Jax is Big and that would make a cool and scary villain. Plus it would cut costs on special effects. The movie director won't take no for an answer and begs the government (along with Jax cuz a c t i n g) until they finally give in and let Jax go under the condition that he remains human sized outside the movie set since he's been civil this whole time.

Through an unfortunate event after his first day on set, he meets Mia and helps her out and a few days later, when he finally grows to his normal size around a lot of other people on set and starts freaking out cuz he's not used to being around so many people, especially since they're so small compared to him (whenever a government agent comes by he has to shrink down so he doesn't have much of a point of reference) and he doesn't want to hurt anyone, Mia returns the favour and talks to him after, eventually offering to role play villain scenarios with him at his house to help him gain more confidence in acting like a villain around other people for the movie. And Thus Friendship Commences.

Also fun fact, the way every au ties in to the ride or die verse is that each alternate universe is basically the real way Jax would act in those scenarios (eg. evil giant merman rp = lighthouse au).

And for your other questions:

Jax and Mia do travel around and help out people after they grow comfortable with each other again. Jax uses his new body and size to restrain monsters and help Mia out with fights while Mia does the Maiming and Killing.

People do generally stay away from both of them, Mia being seen as a deserter and Jax being Jax but they do sometimes escort people to safe places. It's very much a them against the world type deal.

And basically the monsters that ravange the world are called war machines and were made by an unknown group for unknown reasons. The process of making a war machine involves taking a living thing and through a bunch of grotesque experiments, turning them into misshappen monsters. Humans, animals and plants are all fair game but the organization quickly learns to stop going after humans cuz human war machines can usually be reasoned with and thus aren't effective (thus why Mia was so confused to see a humanoid war machine when she first sees Jax again). When the whole war machine thing was just starting though, Jax was nabbed off the street on the way home and was subjected to said cruel experiments. He survived and became a giant shape shifting sludge puddle though since he refused to fight or get violent even when attacked, he was eventually put in what was essentially a sensory deprivation tank and forgotten about.

That is until the base got raided and the unknown horror that was kept in the back was found and released as a last ditch effort.

Mass Effect AU where humans are fictional. Like there’s a major fictional series, probably video games or something, call it “the human chronicles” or something, which has as its main thing “what if we suddenly contacted a new, ambitious, adaptable species” and that’s where humans are from.

The series for the most part has a small but dedicated fanbase until their seventh entry, the first to make romantic elements a central part of the work. The story focuses on an asari maiden scientist who meets a human military officer who not only confirms all of her crackpot theories, but has evidence that they’re facing an urgent extinction crisis that only her scientific background can understand. While the romance with the human is the centerpiece, other possible romances exist, such as with the turian loose canon with a heart of gold who serves as foil for the entry’s villain, and the quarian machinist who finds a key part of the evidence. Indeed, the sympathetic depiction of quarians drove a substantial number of sales into the Migrant Fleet for what had previously been a series with an almost all-asari audience.

An expansion that would include romantic content with the ship’s physician, a more sensible and calm human than the bombastic captain, was cut shortly before being announced due to a change of studio ownership.

While the next entry in the anthology-style series was a relative flop and released to poor reviews, a smaller studio was contracted to make a direct follow-on to the seventh entry, again with a romantic focus. However, as the voice actor who had portrayed the flagship love interest was filming a major part in a Blasto movie at the time, the former central love interest had to be written out as an active character, dying in the beginning of the story, with only a few other voiced lines in flashbacks. The new central love interest, a drell double agent who is indispensable to both sides of the underground war that the story focuses on, became an unexpected hit as a character, with intense forum shipping wars between sides who favored him and sides who favored the previous entry’s love interest. The story ended as a tragedy, with the double agent taken prisoner by the antagonist and the protagonist left truly alone.

Summary: Macen Virius was supposed to be breaking things off with his costar. Instead, he’s pretty sure he might have just caught feelings. Damn it, it was just supposed to be a sex thing...

There was nothing like the end of a long day of filming to make Macen want to go to fucking sleep.

Every muscle in his body ached as he left the set to change out of his costume. Moments before, he had been in the blown out remains of a battlefield. Post would add the effects, but his hands still ached from holding his prop rifle and clicking the useless trigger button. Honestly, if he had been human, he would have expected an imprint there.

He was going to have to ask his costar about that later…

“Where is he anyway?” Macen’s mandibles twitched as he glanced around. Everyone was heading off, but there was no sign of Mass Effect’s leading man. Usually, he stuck around to talk to his costar – then again, he didn’t see the other ‘Commander Shepard’ either. They must have both taken off early…

He envied that about humans. They got out of costume and makeup way too quickly.

In the end, he too was back in his regular clothes. As he walked, he rubbed his right mandible, trying to get the feeling back. Part of playing Garrus meant that he needed fake implants to imply he’d had half his face blown off. With how numb that mandible got, it certainly felt that way. No doubt about it, he was looking forward to the final season where all he would need is scar tissue. At least he’d be able to move better in that.

A beeping drew his attention to his wrist as he left the set. His omnitool was letting him know he had a message from a certain fake redhead. As humans put it, curiosity killed the cat (don’t ask him, he didn’t even know what a cat was) so he opened it.

Alex Jones: Hey, rehearsal at my place tonight?

Alex Jones: I can get takeout from that levo-dextro place again. You liked their noodles.

He had liked their noodles. What he didn’t like was… well, this.

“You’re getting too attached, Virius. This is just supposed to be about sex.” He shook his head, half considering calling things off so he could have the night to himself. Problem was that his stomach had started to growl at the thought of those noodles. Besides, tomorrow’s shoot was supposed to involve a lot of emotional moments – he needed all the feedback he could get.

With any luck, he’d end the night in his own bed without fucking the human. After all… he was a turian of self-restraint and control. He could totally handle this.

…

Yeah, he was just going to keep telling himself that and hope for the best. Damn sexy human…

An hour later, Macen found himself standing in front of his costar’s door, frowning as he stared at the metal. As hard as he tried to talk himself into ending things, doubt still gnawed at his stomach.

He should end things. It never ended well when he got too into somebody.

“He should understand… it’s just sex… he’s my costar, and it’s just sex.” Macen shook his head again, frowning as he started to key in the human’s door code. Alex had given it to him a month prior, mostly so if he was going to be late he could get in.

That probably wasn’t a good sign, but he had elected to ignore it.

The door clicked opened, and he stepped in. Much to his surprise, the sound of upbeat music met him in the hallway. Not only that, but someone was singing to it if his translator was anything to go by. The damn thing was working overtime as he sidled closer to the entrance to the living room, holding his breath as he peaked in.

Lucky for him, Alex’s back was to him. The human had cleared a space in his living room in order to have room for what he was doing then. However, Macen was having a problem processing what “that” was. Well, he knew it was dancing – a somewhat odd version of it – but it was just so… old fashioned.

Also, since when did Alex dance?

“Let’s chase the dreaming light, and I’ll truly be myself…”

Dancing wasn’t the only thing on the menu. Macen’s jaw dropped as he realized the soft, sweet voice he had heard in the hallway was coming from Alex himself as he worked through the song with flowing, easy moves. Something about it was so painstakingly familiar, yet he couldn’t put his finger on it as he stood mutely in the hallway, watching the scene in front of him.

He had to wonder… what did it look like from the front?

“There’s a scene I want to show you. You have to wait for it… so let’s make a promise!”

Alex moved into a different position, holding out his hand to an imaginary audience that Macen couldn’t see as he took a step up. Every one of his moves were precise, even though he was doing nothing more than dancing around his apartment in his socks. Clearly, he had been practicing…

But for what?

“There’s a gentle wind wrapping around me… isn’t it warm?”

Macen knew a bridge when he heard one, and he felt himself holding his breath as he watched. Alex was getting closer to his imaginary audience now, probably for whatever was going to come in the final chorus. Maybe it was because he was so focused on the man that he hadn’t noticed his heart had begun to beat faster, but it thudded all the same.

“They’re overflowing, these endless hearts…” The man suddenly turned on his heel, facing the entry way. “Please carry them to tomorrow!”

And then no more singing happened as the precursor to the final chorus played behind him. He was fixed on the turian standing in his living room, looking rather shocked as if he hadn’t given him the door code. Macen wasn’t doing much better, mind you – he still hadn’t managed to shut his damn mouth.

And people thought they were cool. If only the blogs could see them now.

At least Alex shut the music off as he regained sense. He reached for a towel to dry off his apparently sweaty face, cheeks a slight pink from exercise. Maybe it was the sweat that had made him shine in that moment. For all Macen knew, it had caught the overhead light when he spun around like that.

Meanwhile, his heart wasn’t slowing down. Still…

“Uh… I guess my text didn’t make it.” At least his mandibles were starting to work. “I didn’t miss the noodles yet, did I?”

The human put his towel down as he started towards his phone propped up on a stand. “They’ll be here in 15 last I checked.”

The music started playing on his phone as he frowned. “Damn, I knew I spun the wrong way…”

This caused Macen to cock his head to the side. “Were you recording yourself for social media or something?”

Doubtful; this kind of thing definitely wasn’t in the human’s wheelhouse. After all, he was supposed to be playing Commander Shepard. While the man had some oddities, he probably didn’t dance around like that.

…

Then again, who fucking knew. Dude was weird.

Alex was still checking his phone as he spoke. “No, just recording my practice to see where I need to improve for filming next week.”

Surprisingly, he was grinning as he looked up. “I’ve waiteda for this for a long time, so I want to get it right.”

Something about the way he smiled did awful things to Macen’s stomach. However, the statement set his mind whirring. While he wasn’t a complete Reaper War freak like some of his coworkers, he at least knew enough to be sure something like that hadn’t happened. After all, there’d be videos, right?

Definitely videos, no way Joker would’ve let that slip by.

“Ok, you’re going to have to fill me in on this one… since when did Shepard do a little dance?”

Alex chuckled – again, there went his stomach. “2185, to be exact. The Normandy ran into a rogue AI that accidentally found its way into Shepard’s music collection. They needed to distract it, so he wound up putting on a little show. He disabled the cameras beforehand, but he wrote about it in his journal, so we know it happened. And now I get to do it on TV and make all the people who think he was just a military guy hate me. I’m thrilled.”

Clearly – he was sparkling again, and this time it wasn’t from the sweat. Macen felt his heart beat harder again, and he tried to distract himself by looking towards the door. If those noodles could save his ass, he’d marry them.

Besides, he was supposed to be calling things off with the guy.

Alex was still looking through his phone as he spoke. “It’s been such a long time since I’ve done a dance routine for TV, I was worried I forgot how. I’m definitely a little rough, but it’s better than I thought it would be. Good thing the director let me know early so I could practice a bit more.”

Macen started to open his mouth to ask, but then the memory came to the surface. He knew where he had heard the voice before, and honestly he was surprised he had forgotten about it. Back then, he had secretly loved to watch it.

Secretly, of course, because Citadel Idol Heart was really more of a girl’s show. The popular teen drama about idols competing in a Citadel-wide talent competition in hopes of seeing their dreams come to life had run for a few years, and he had seen every episode. More importantly, he had once crushed on the main character, a blonde idol with blue eyes and the sweetest voice he had ever heard. Whenever she took the stage, he had been unable to look away.

Just like he couldn’t look away now…

“You… I forgot you were on CIH.”

It was now Alex’s turn to blink back surprise as he looked up from his phone. “You watched that?”

“Kind of…” His eyes darted. “Your voice hasn’t changed much. I mean it’s gotten older sounding but I’m glad to know it wasn’t autotune or anything…”

Things had officially gotten awkward. There he was, with the crush from his teenage years… and he was fucking the guy without even knowing it. Life was weird, and it was getting worse by the second. If only teenage him could see him now…

The man’s cheeks turned a light pink at the compliment. “Well, it’s not like I’ve gone on T or anything, so no big surprise there…”

He got up, probably to check for the noodles. “I take it you were part of the Melody fan club then. Unless you were an edge lord and went with Black Rose. Her fan club was the absolute worst and insisted we hated each other, but I was the best man at her damn wedding last year…”

The rest of his statement was drowned out by the opening of a door and the ruffling of a paper bag. At last, the noodles had arrived. Unfortunately, Macen realized he didn’t have much of an appetite. His stomach refused to calm, and his heart still pounded as he sat there, processing everything.

At least the application of a warm box to his mandibles helped.

“Macen, your noodles are going to get cold.”

He blinked and realized Alex was nudging him in the face with his food. That shot him back to reality as he took the box and proffered plastic fork that went with it. The human then settled in next to him – not across! – and started to dig into his own box.

Right… food. And they were supposed to be rehearsing. And he was definitely supposed to be breaking up with his costar.

“I had the pin.”

His comment left silence in his wake. Alex had stopped eating and was giving him a rather incredulous look. This caused Macen to duck his head in lieu of eating noodles. After all, it was hard to do so politely when you had a face like his. Really, he should have sworn them off… but they were just so damn good he couldn’t resist.

Damn humans and their noodles, they were out to get him.

“You had the fan club pin?”

Yep – there went his mandibles, flapping in the breeze. “I was a big fan, ok? What can I say, everyone loves an underdog story… and you maybe… looked good in that one outfit. The orange one…”

Melody in the orange outfit had been taped to his bedroom wall until he left for basic. Hell, it might still be there…

“God, you’re such a nerd.”

Alex was chuckling though as he put his fork down. It was a nice sound, though it did horrible things to Macen’s stomach once more. Thoughts of noodles evaporated as he sat there, taking in the sound of the human’s mirth. He really needed to laugh more often… maybe he should work on making that happen.

“Well… I can’t exactly let a fan down, now can I?”

He stood and crossed the room to the open space he had created. The music was soon queued up to where he had last stopped, and Alex took position once more. The smile on his face made Macen’s heart want to stop as he sat there, a noodle still hanging from his mandible.

“I can take off into the dreaming sky… because I’m not alone.” Alex winked as he moved, following the song. “Wherever it is, I feel like I can go across the distant sky…”

Then the music swelled as it led into the final chorus. Macen forgot how to breathe in that moment as he watched his costar dance and sing along to the ancient song. All he could think of was how much better he had gotten since the days of CIH…

And how much he wanted to kiss him.

“It’s not enough to put into words, so I’m putting it into a song I’m wishing will reach you.” Another smile as Alex twirled, then began his final pose as the song began to wind down. “Beating my heart~”

The last pose, with his head cocked to the side and hands clasped together, held as the music faded. Then there was silence in the living room as Macen struggled to remember how to function. Right then, there was nothing there but Alex and the table in front of him that kept him in place.

Shit.

“It probably needs some work, but I think I’ve got the basics considering it’s only been a couple hours.” Alex landed back on the couch, picking his food back up. “What do you think, Macen? Got anything you noticed?”

Yeah… his heart was still beating like crazy.

“Macen?”

The turian shook his head – probably launching the noodle in the process. At least it didn’t hit the man next to him, so he could thank his lucky stars for that. However, it was hard to think then as so many feelings and thoughts crashed together.

He was supposed to be calling it off… that was why he came over. This was just supposed to be a sex thing… but every bone in his carapace was telling him to grab the other man and kiss the daylights out of him. They hadn’t even ever kissed outside of sex or prepping for scenes…

What the hell was wrong with him?

“I uh… I don’t know the song, but maybe hold the last pose a bit longer. They might be able to make your eyes light up a bit more.”

Alex nodded at this. “I’ll make a note. Also, don’t you hate cold noodles? Last time you wouldn’t stop complaining when the delivery guy was late…”

Right then, Macen wasn’t sure what he hated or liked as he shoveled the food into his mouth. He just needed something, anything to keep him away from the thoughts currently blooming in his mind.

He knew this path – he hated it. It never ended well. And long ago he had told himself he was never going to walk down it again if he had any sense in his head. This was nothing more than a rehash on an old teenage crush… he could overpower it.

“We need our energy to practice.” He slurped down the last noodle, glad that none were sticking to his face this time. “Tomorrow’s going to be hell if we’re not ready.”

At least his costar nodded as he worked to finish his dinner. “Tell me about it, I have a damn imprint on my trigger finger from that damn gun…”

Well, at least on the bright side that question got answered. It did nothing to quell the bubbling feelings Macen was trying so desperately to beat down, but at least his curiosity was sated for the moment. Maybe that would get him through filming.

One thing was for sure… he was fucked. No way about it – he was just plain fucked. The universe was laughing at him, and he only had himself to blame. All he could do was hope he could hold back and wait for the feelings to pass.

If they didn’t… see the previous statement for clarification. Fuck… he was supposed to be a turian sharpshooter, not a lovesick puppy. He didn’t sign up for this.

Exhausted Parents Kiss

Just a little drabble with my oc, Xavia, and @gaysparkler's oc, Dalila for oc week

According to the clock hanging on the wall, Xavia and Dalila had exactly 53 minutes of sleep when their new baby, Anderson, began crying for the third time that night. Xavia did her best to hold in her groan when she realized that it was her turn to check on him.

They adopted Anderson only three weeks ago, and it had been a hell of a ride since. None of their daughters had been this unruly when they were babies—and Xavia, Dalila, and Liara took care of them from the womb and on, unlike their son—and Xavia just hoped that Anderson was an outlier and none of their future children would be as merciless as him. Xavia just wanted one full hour of sleep, was that too much to ask?

“It’s your turn,” Dalila murmured, and Xavia sighed.

“I know, I’m getting up, just give me a second,” Xavia said. Oh, she didn’t want to leave the comfort of their bed…

“When did Liara say she would be back? Anderson is kicking our butts with just the two of us here,” Xavia whined. That was probably another reason she thought Anderson was so much worse than their other children: Liara had been gone for almost two weeks on Shadow Broker business, and their usual three mom rotation had been cut down to two. Now, not only did Xavia and Dalila have to manage three school-age children on their own, there was also a screaming baby with absolutely no idea what being awake and quiet was like. Xavia didn’t think she could last another two weeks and still maintain her sanity.

“Um, she should be back in a day or two, I think?” Dalila said, sleep still thick in her voice. “You’re right, though. We may have saved the galaxy from the Reapers, but we are no match for Anderson Hale T'Soni Shepard.”

Xavia chuckled. “I don’t think the Crucible can help us with him.”

Dalila murmured something else, but it was too quiet for Xavia to understand, meaning Dalila was already almost back to sleep. Xavia only briefly wished it were her before she ripped the covers off herself and sat up. She quickly wiped the rest of the sleep from her eyes, then summoned all the willpower she had and slid off the bed and onto the cold, hardwood floor below. She walked down the hall of their apartment—after their third daughter, the three parents decided to move into a bigger house elsewhere on the Citadel, and Freider, Kaidan, and their two daughters lived in the old apartment Captain Anderson gave Dalila.

Xavia opened the door to the nursery, and she picked up the still-screaming baby. Singing and rocking him was usually enough to put Anderson back to sleep after fifteen minutes or so, but once he was laid back in his crib, he would immediately begin crying again, which would mean another fifteen minutes of singing and rocking. It took Xavia nearly an hour to get him to fall asleep then stay gods there be that Anderson would sleep through however many hours there were left in the night.

Xavia nearly passed out walking back down the hallway, and the happiness and relief she felt to be back under the covers of their bed was beyond her own comprehension. She could write sonnets about the joys of laying under a nice, heavy duvet, warmth radiating off of one of her wives as they slept next to her. Oh, what a relief it was!

Her joyous inner ramblings were only increased in intensity as Dalila turned and Xavia was able to bask in the wonders of her wife’s face. Dalila smiled sleepily, and Xavia grinned back.

“So, he’s finally down, then?” Dalila asked, and Xavia nodded. “Ah, yet another battle we can count as a win.”

“For now, at least,” Xavia said. Dalila chuckled, then she closed the space between the two of them and kissed Xavia chastely on the lips. When she pulled back, they were both smiling like idiots, despite how tired they both were.

“We’ve already done this three times, we can do it a fourth,” Dalila said. Xavia leaned in for a kiss again, this time significantly less chaste as she held Dalila’s face in her hands.

“And a fifth, and a sixth…” Xavia said between kisses.

“Hmmm, we’ll see,” Dalila laughed, though it was muffled by Xavia’s mouth. “We’ll have that discussion after Anderson can walk. I’m not having another set of kids just a year apart, and I’m sure Liara will agree.”

They pulled back again, though this time for good. They said goodnight for the fourth time that night as they snuggled together, eventually falling asleep in each other’s arms.

Mass Effect!Actors AU continuation:

So I was thinking about this more after my last post of headcanons for this and so I decided to focus on every party member and a few headcanons for them when it comes to the idea of all the characters in the trilogy being Actors working on the new "breakout" series of Mass effect that is probably also a majority of the casts first "real" role.

Here is my original post of this AU

Mass effect 1:

Cast:

Shepard (Jane/John):

Both Shepards aren't well-known actors until they become lead roles in this series and have mostly done stunt work or like single episodes in crime dramas. They're both actual siblings since directors wanted them to resemble each other closely and also know how to mimic certain traits asked of them. Mass effect is their big break and they rise in popularity after the first season of the show is aired.

**The filming of the Mass effect is done separately for both genders and its exclusively to have both Shepards show both Renegade and Paragon personalities. It's almost like 2 different shows are being filmed and the show intentionally tries to keep most of the choices of each Shepard as unique as possible. There's an ongoing war in online fandom about which version of the show is "canon." Both Shepards are trolls and throw out "info" to add fuel to the fire**

Joker:

Joker is a well-known comedian and this is his first real role as an actor in a show so he is beyond the moon in wanting to do as good as he can. He does have vorlik’s syndrome which writers of the series wanted to include as part of his character and so Joker was glad this was something that didn’t stop his career to start as an actor. Joker was already used to having fans as a comedian, but his work in the show shoots him in popularity quick and he and Shepard are quick to learn what it’s like to suddenly have way more fans than expected. Joker ends up being the one who does the most interviews since his skills of deflection and avoiding spoilers is notorious. He also has the best stories of the cast and crew being dumbasses and has tons of blooper reels that he shows in some of the interviews. This helps the cast become even more lovable.

Anderson:

Anderson is also not a well-known actor and usually was involved more in directing until he is cast in his role and quickly becomes a fan favorite. He is professional and often never has issues in breaking character or messing up since he's been in the business for a long time but working with Shepard does cause him to occasionally get caught in bloopers of messing up his lines and bursting out in laughs. His popularity for him is probably what saved him from many instances of potential death on the show. Since he isn't as present in later episodes of the show, later on, he ends up getting a spin-off of when he was younger and was a specter candidate with Saren. This spin-off has Anderson, Saren, Hackett, Nihlus, and Kahlee Sanders and spans a few seasons with occasional cameos from other cast and crew potentially playing different roles.

He's good friends with Saren and they frequently go to interviews/fan events together in costume and stay in character much to the delight of their fans.

Saren:

Like Anderson, Saren has been in the industry for years and he's a well-known actor. Usually works in romance or drama so Mass Effect was a change for him to play as a villain. It shoots him up in popularity too since he gets a specific fan base of followers that are absolutely head over heels for him. Saren gets many fans yelling at him about his role's evil deeds and he likes the attention and laughs it off. His popularity grows and he is often asked to come back and film some flashback scenes in later scenes.

Saren and Nihlus have a few solo episodes that go in-depth of their friendship and so when that scene comes when Nihlus is murdered there's a fan uproar for a few weeks.

(Also contrary to Saren’s anti-human personality in the show, he’s actually very pro-human. Probably even married to one and all the flashy insults he throws at Shepard in scenes comes from his partner who gave them to him lol.)

Kaiden/Ashley:

Both Kaiden and Ashley are involved in both versions of the show being filmed with both Shepards and so their filming schedules are packed and they're often the actors you rarely see outside of the set. They're both well known and have been in many popular series before they were cast for the show so they're not at all bothered by the amount of work they're pulling double duty on. Both of them have much more freedom in improving and not following their scripts since they have to repeat many scenes with Shepard which gives them a lot of positive feedback from everyone on set.

Both actors also rarely show up to interviews since they're both prone to accidentally let a spoiler slip and they also have to play coy on the "who is Shepard going to save in next week's episode!?" Due to the popularity of Kaiden and Ashley's interactions with Shepard in episodes, they get a lot of questions about potential romances on screen. Directors deliberately have flirty dialogue open to interpretation for them and Liara.

Garrus:

Garrus is also not well known as an actor and this show becomes his breakout role after he spent most of his roles as a bodyguard, criminal, or general crowd member. Garrus was initially assuming he'd only be involved for a few episodes since all actors got a warning that no one's fate on the show was secure and it was open to writers of the show to kill off characters. After Garrus' first episode though, he was received with so much fanfare that he wasn't prepared for it. Even writers and the show directors were shocked by the amount of attention he got and they quickly had him be a more supportive role to Shepard. Like Kaiden/Ashley/Liara, Garrus was subjected to many fan questions of if he was potentially going to be the main love interest. Garrus is determined to do his best in this new role he's given and plays up his character as much as he can which goes a long way with fans.

Garrus at first was in many interviews with Shepard, Tali, and Wrex, however, after his popularity boomed he had to become more hidden since he also started to be asked to film more scenes with both shepherds and was being written to become a "best friend," role for them. This translated as well outside of filming which caused a lot of rumors. Garrus was placed in a similar situation as Kaiden and Ashley were of being slowly given more freedom in how he played his character with both Shepards which caused him to have a much more packed schedule.

Tali:

Tali is pretty well known as an actress and she usually only goes into romantic comedies and soap operas so her casting in the show is a new direction for her. She enjoys being able to play a new kind of character and becomes fast friends with both shepherds and the cast. Tali loves making others break character and succeeds the most with Garrus and Wrex who she gets a lot of scenes with since they're the only aliens aside from Liara who get extra episodes to help develop them further as comrades and their backstories. Due to Tali's history in romance films, she is also a quick fan favorite and is bombarded with questions about being a love interest like Garrus. She's used to this sort of questioning in interviews so she plays along as much as she can and only gives fans small teases.

Liara:

Like Tali, Liara is well known for her work in romance films but she generally enjoys being in more historical dramas and documentaries, this role was offered to Liara, and was told she would be a permanent cast and crew member for the foreseeable future. She took the role since it was her first of this genre. Due to her popularity when she was announced as being cast in the show, directors decided to have her character be openly flirtatious with both Shepards which after completing the filming of the first season they called both Liara and both Shepards back to set to film bonus "what if..." episodes of romance scenes with Shepard. This was also done with Kaiden/Ashley and not with Garrus and Tali, much to fans' disappointment on that.

Due to Liara's phenomenal acting of the loss of Benezia, she was given a few extra episodes that expanded her character's relationship with her mother which further raised Liara's popularity with her fan base. Benezia is chaotic however and makes it a goal to have Liara break character and there is a great blooper reel to prove it.

Wrex:

Wrex was initially cast as a character that was meant to die in the show and he was asked to be as unlikable as possible. Wrex has also been in the industry for a long time and so he rarely has issues in his work and he's very open to helping other new actors such as Garrus. He and Garrus spend a lot of time together working on different scenes and also helps out Shepard with working on their lines.

It quickly became apparent after his first few episodes and chemistry with Shepard and the cast that he developed a fan base and the closer they got to filming the ending of the season he was getting frequent questions if he had been confirmed to return for season 2.

When this started happening directors told all the cast to drop hints that it could be anyone to derail speculation and Wrex was ready to give a spectacular scene of his death at Shepard's hands until he gets the script that showed directors decide he was staying alive.

Bonus:

Nihlus:

Nihlus is extremely popular and is one of the first actors that are announced for the mass effect show and there is a long period of speculation among fans on what his role is going to be and it comes to every fan's shock when they watch the first episode and he dies. This causes an uproar that eventually leads to the writers creating a few extra episodes with him and Saren to help build up the friendship that was portrayed on the screen. This helps the fan's reactions but Nihlus gets even more popular for his unfair death. He comes back often to film flashbacks as well with Saren on occasion.

Hackett

Hackett is a respected actor and he is often seen doing more voice-over work as well as prefers being in military films which he was glad he could stay in a similar role for this show. Fans, however, were open about hoping for Hackett to be more involved in future seasons which was something that he did end up doing in future seasons of Mass Effect 2 and 3. Due to recording voice-over work the most during the first season, he didn't get much of an introduction to the cast so he only became closer to the cast in Mass Effect 2's season.

Mass effect 1 main crew personalities vs. who they play:

Shepard/s: They play their part as a professional commander but they have no sense of direction and are the complete opposite to who they play perfectly on screen. They take constant photos of everyone and accidentally post some they aren’t supposed to which causes an uproar with their fans. Constant rumors of them being involved with the cast that they themselves never deny or confirm.

Garrus: Is the most like his own character in personality. Knows nothing about calibrations and has to take time memorizing actual algorithms to pull it off. He and both Shep’s become best friends off screen and are also always getting in trouble in taking pics he’s not supposed to. He’s the subject of constant speculation of being in a romantic relationship with one or both Shepard’s. This isn’t new though since its the same with Tali and Liara.

Liara: Loves history but isn’t actually that invested in only one thing like protheans. She likes focusing more on living being rather than those who are no longer around so she enjoys talking about it. Liara also becomes very close with Shepard, Tali, Wrex, and Garrus. She’s also pretty similar to her screen counterpart.

Tali: Tali is slightly different from her screen counterpart and is much more hardcore in partying than everyone else. She’s the one you will find inviting everyone to the club after work and will be on the headlines more often about her impressive ability to hold down liquor. Fast friends with Garrus, Liara, Wrex, and Shepard. Tali like Garrus is constantly being speculated on if she has some sort of relationship with either Shep.

Wrex: Mom friend of the main group. He’s the oldest and the escort for his cast mates since none of them really expected the popularity they got from the show. He acts a bit as a body guard but it isn’t that easy after he himself becomes more mainstream and eventually he’s the one organizing Tali’s crazy parties so that they aren’t bombarded with too many fans. Big soft man who grabs the whole cast and gives a manly hug and cries when the show’s season is wrapped up.

Kaiden: Like Tali, Kaiden lives it up and he parties like a rock star. He likes to interact with fans and his cast so he lets loose when he can. Though it’s not as often as he would like since he is usually always working on a project. He’s much more open and charismatic than his screen version and so he and Tali bring a lot of chaos when they get wild.

Ashley: Ashley isn’t as wild as Kaiden and Tali, but she does let her hair loose and enjoys spending time with the whole cast. Contrary to her character being suspicious of aliens, Ashley is more comfortable with her alien cast mates and she’s probably also dating one in her private life. Who? you’ll never know. She swaps stories with Wrex and Tali on best and worst roles they’ve had and they have a great friendship.

(This got kinda long and I wanna keep this all in one post so it’s all together in one place so I’ll make a cut of Mass effect 2 and 3 under this) 

Mass Effect 2 New Cast:

Shepard:

After their first season, Shepard is much more known and quickly is given much more freedom in their ability to be more to what they believe their character should be like. Both Shepard’s also had a lot of sway in encouraging directors and writers in creating special episodes for romance options that fans had been hoping for. Both Shepard’s become fast friends with the new crew and get into many chaotic situations with them.

Miranda:

Miranda isn’t a really popular actress but she is well known in the modeling industry and she recently decided to try her hand in acting. This is her first real role so she is very excited to be involved. She get’s a lot more help from members like Thane, Mordin, Tali, and Jacob outside of takes in teaching her how to go about certain scenes and how to memorize her lines. Miranda is a fast learner and is up to speed pretty quickly. She is fast friends with Jack and because of it, their rivalry on screen is easy for both of them to pull off. Miranda also gets support from TIM when they have scenes together which is the most nerve wracking for her as TIM is probably the most elite actor the whole show has. He ends up taking her under him in a sort of mentor/student role.

Due to Miranda’s popularity rising she is given a small spin-off of her escape from her father and the rescue of her sister.

Jacob

Jacob isn’t the most widely known actor and usually goes more into comedy and action films. Although the second season of mass effect 2 isn’t a comedy he isn’t completely out of his comfort zone with the many action scenes they film. Jacob enjoys spending time with Thane and their chemistry helps them in their confrontation scenes just like Miranda and Jack’s. Jacob doesn’t have to change his own personality to fit his role much but it does give him a new preservative of acting in a more dramatic manner when he and Shepard film his loyalty quest.

Mordin

Mordin is a top tier and well-known actor and he enjoys playing scientists and villains. However, this time around he is especially careful in his lines since his character is very quick and so he trips up on his lines frequently when he’s in the middle of explaining medical jargon to Shepard. This causes the cast to constantly burst out in laughs and there are many blooper reels of this. Mordin is very laid-back and spends time with every cast mate in the effort to get to know them better and is very close to Kasumi, Samara, and Grunt.

Mordin has the habit of breaking props while he’s in the middle of a fast paced dialogue that it’s an ongoing joke on what he will break next. He, Kasumi, and Garrus frequently break their props.

Thane

Thane is also a massively popular actor due to his many roles as a mysterious, sexy, and unobtainable man. He’s been in many action, drama, horror, and thriller films and series. His reputation is impressive but outside of his performances he’s almost the exact opposite and it takes him a long time to practice to be what is asked of him. Thane also is used to not having to repeat scenes frequently and thus if he spends too much time having to redo a scene he is prone to breaking character and laughing or falling into fits of giggles because he’s not used to it. This is most common with Shepard, Kolyat, and others like Samara and Garrus. Thane usually doesn’t perform emotional, tear jerking scenes so it goes to show his ability to wrestle tears out of the whole cast when he and Kolyat have their scenes together. (However, when asked to re-shoot these scenes both Thane and Kolyat are hysterical and can’t hold it together for long)

During the first shoot of Thane’s introduction he crashes through the ceiling due to having too much weight and he’s stuck suspended in wires that has the entire cast and crew roaring in laughter. Many photos were taken and Thane had a terrible bruise and pulled muscle afterwards but it was really funny.

(Thane becomes such a fan favorite that after his death in Mass Effect 3, he’s given a spin-off to explore his tragic past. Kolyat is also cast in this spin-off much to his distress of not wanting to be in an actual main character role)

Samara

Samara is also a model who turned to acting after she passed her maiden stage and so has a strong connection with Miranda who is just starting out. Samara is widely known since she has spent a lot of time in different genres of films and shows and so she is one of the more elite actresses out there. She is however, determined to make everyone on set break character once. It has been her trophy of making others break and yet none can break her own discipline when it comes to acting. It becomes a bit of a game of everyone breaking once and yet no one seems to be able to break Samara’s will to stay in character. The closest anyone has gotten was when Shepard decided to improv the entire scene sequence of her loyalty quest. Samara stuttered a few lines but recovered smoothly which was the best anyone could do.

Samara’s twin sister Morinth was asked to film scenes which confused the hell out of everyone which added to Samara’s goal of breaking everyone at least once.

(Samara also receives a spin-off to explore her and her daughter’s backstories after mass effect 3)

Jack

Jack is fairly-known in the industry and has been an actress since she was young so she has a lot of control over her abilities. Jack spends HOURS in makeup to have all the tattoos put on her but she enjoys it and has mentioned constantly that she wanted to be a part of the show since it started. Jack is extremely nice and friendly with everyone which at first is a whiplash when she turns on her angry aura during her first scenes with Shepard and the cast. Usually Jack loves being in comedies, horror, or dramas as a friend character but she couldn't turn up playing an angry person. She has worked with other cast members like Thane, Jacob, and Tali in other shows and films before so she's not much of a new face to a few of them.

Jack, like Thane had a mistake in her first introduction take where one of the cuffs on her arm wasn't snapped off while she was trying to run that when she sprinted she was yanked back and landed hard on her back. It was hysterical and she was also out of commission for a few days recovering.

Legion

Legion is one of the newest members and he is the first of his kind to really pursue acting. His motivation was seeing all of his people making an effort to act in the first season of the show but ultimately only being characters who were shot. He has a lot to learn but he's helped by the entire crew. He beat boxes and does the robot frequently in between takes.

Kasumi

Kasumi isn't well known and this role is one that shoots her into the spotlight. She's usually worked as a stunt double and recently decided to try her hand at being involved more than just stunts. She knows nothing of thievery so she spends a lot of time being taught by directors and going into training to do all the wild things she has to do. She's also really chatty which she has to control while in scenes. She enjoys the experience and she shows off her skills of acting when she worked with Shepard and Keiji during their filming of her loyalty quest. Kasumi received many offers to be in other projects after this.

Zaheed

Zaheed was popular in the industry when he was young but after having his family he took a long break from filming anything and only ever appeared in advertisements or voice-over work. He decided to audition for this role after becoming a fan of the first season and he often is very excited to share how excited he was to get the role. He's the dad of the group and he has to actually put on his accent during scenes since he regularly doesn't have it. In his previous work he spent most of his time in roles as a clean cut and sophisticated man so being a mean mercenary has him extremely excited to do.

Grunt

Grunt is young and has only been in a few shows and films and usually has only had very few opportunities to expand his career so landing a role in this show is a massive step for him. He’s immediately taken in by Mordin since Grunt is very new to having a larger role to play. Grunt becomes a fan favorite and his chemistry with Shepard prompts many filler episodes to be written to establish a parent/son dynamic between the two of them which every single cast member show up for since Shepard and Grunt are in fact almost joined at the hip even outside of filming. Grunt is the softest out of the entire cast and thus everyone take it upon themselves to make sure Grunt never sees a hate comment under interviews. Grunt can get in character very quickly and is determined to do his job flawlessly but sometimes during all that rampaging in action scenes he’ll toss a crew member pretty hard and so when they yell cut, Grunt is quick to apologize and hold the crew mate in his arms in a big hug.

TIM (The Illusive Man) 

Tim is the most elite and the most well known actor out of the entire cast of actors. He is incredibly busy so even accepting this role was a surprise to his fans. He’s not by any stretch as mysterious or an asshole as when he plays the illusive man but he is rarely on set unless he is needed and even then he spends most of his time in his own trailer and only steps out to interact with the people who he has scenes with, which are usually only Shepard and Miranda. He takes Miranda more under his wing on scenes since he understands its more or less her first real acting gig and gives advice to Shepard as well. Usually both Shepard’s are seen on the set filming when Tim is there since his schedule is so strict they need to film all his scenes first and together so as to not waste too much time. Only on rare occasions will Tim actually come to set to observe his other colleagues that he has worked with before such as Mordin, Samara, and Thane. Otherwise he only appears in interviews and to help promote the show.

Edi

Edi isn’t well known and when she is introduced, she gains a fan base of many people wondering what she looks like since she only ever did voice-over work during the filming of ME2. Although Edi has never been shy to show her face once fans learn who she is, just like Hackett many want Edi to eventually become more than just the voice of the AI. Edi impresses everyone with her vocal range and actually does end up in a relationship with Joker after they meet in order to film their scenes together. Unlike Hackett though Edi is always on set to voice her lines to the crew since her involvement is more direct and thus she quickly becomes friends with everyone.

Returning cast:

Joker, Garrus, and Tali’s roles became much more involved and so did their friendship with Shepard. All 3 end up the most in blooper reels and in photos together during filming. Garrus becomes much more comfortable in his role and builds up his confidence as an actor with the help of others on set. Tali also becomes more comfortable in this genre. Joker also enjoys his choice of trying acting.

Wrex, Liara, Kadien/Ashley all remain for a few episodes but generally speaking are only around set for a few days and thus are seen more in online platforms cheering their old cast and crew and encouraging fans to interact.

Bonus cast:

Kolyat: Kolyat is actually related to Thane and unlike their onscreen relationship, they’re very much close and have a strong connection as father and son. Kolyat usually works as a stunt double for his father but when he was introduced to the writers and directors they decided it would be best to have actual family members portray their parts. Kolyat has gone years studying the way his father performed and he becomes a fan favorite by how good he is able to keep up with his father’s acting ability. After his brief appearance he was given offers to pursue acting but he turned them down since he was not interested. Thane tries to convince him to do it though.

Morinth: Like Kolyat, Morinth has not been someone who enjoys being on screen unless its for modeling. She usually only helps her sister Samara when situations are needed of having some sort of identical character. Otherwise she tends to stay in her modeling gig.

**Aria/Nyreen: Aria and Nyreen are an actual married couple that enjoy picking projects where they can work together. At first for mass effect 2 only Aria was cast since Nyreen was busy raising their child at home and was offered a role in mass effect 3. Both women are polar opposites to their roles but have both been in the industry for a long time.

Romanced Crew:

Due to both Shepard’s being open to catering to the audience they convinced writers to film more “what if” episodes of what romances with those in mass effect 2 would have been like. This brings many new fans into the show and it further spikes the popularity for many of the old and new cast. Garrus, Tali, Liara become household names and they are no longer just “well-known,” actors from their first season. They can’t be out too much in public any longer but they do adjust to the popularity well enough.

Shepard also becomes one of the top actors and they are offered many roles once they finish wrapping up filming the season.

Bad ending bonus

Just like the extra “what if” romance episodes, writers of the show decided they wanted to film a “bad ending” to the show and thus had all the cast and crew return to film their deaths. This was an episode that was aired on Halloween for shits and giggles and it tore fans hearts since no one knew exactly which version of the show was “canon,” It’s not until months later that directors finally let fans know there would be a 3rd season with the cast alive.

Mass Effect 3 New Cast

James Vega

James comes from a wrestling background and decided he wanted to try his hand at acting. This works in his favor and although he doesn’t become a huge fan favorite as others before him have, he does gain a fan base and this is something that he loves since it is his first time trying this sort of career change. He gains a lot of help from everyone on set and he works his ass off to make sure he does his best. It pays off as once they finish filming he is given many offers for other projects as well as given a spin-off to go into his backstory that is only briefly mentioned within episodes. James becomes great friends with Garrus and Javik since they film together the most.

Javik

Javik is well-known in the industry and has been sought out by many agencies for other projects but he is one to choose a role that he believes would be the most fulfilling and challenging. When he received the script for his role he immediately took it since he felt that acting as the last of an alien kind who is bitter was a fantastic idea. He is fast friends with Liara and they spend hours outside of filming to hang out and they end up getting rumors of being involved romantically which only heighten during their scenes together since their chemistry is easily seen. Javik is very nice but usually stays in character ALL day when filming so he usually doesn’t stop acting until he’s off for the day or is returning at a much later hour for re-shoots.

Diana Allers

Diana is a popular actress and has been in many top-budget films so her inclusion to the show is extremely noticeable. She’s a bit of a snob but she isn’t too overbearing about it. She tends to hang around those who have the most experience in the hopes of gaining some more ties into the industry. She’s generally friendly with others but she’s not usually seen interacting with much of the cast unless they are all together in interviews or promoting the show. Due to being the most snotty of the entire bunch, the crew take it upon themselves to prank her. Usually they are small ones in the hopes that she “chills out,” according to Joker.

Steve Cortez

Steve joins the cast and quickly becomes friends with everyone which is something that everyone appreciates. He is known mostly for his work in soap operas and his ability to make you cry is something that he is proud of and often has the whole cast in tears when he’s performing his scenes related to his husband. Steve becomes a bit of a heartthrob with the audience.

Samantha Traynor

Samantha, like Joker is a comedian and joins the cast after being recommended by Joker. Sam has had more experience in films and shows since she has been around longer in the industry and enjoys working on shows more often since it gives her the liberty to work on both of her career choices. She’s very confident and melds well with the cast and only has had a few scuffles in her ability to memorize her lines. She’s the one more likely to completely blank out in a scene because she forgot her lines. It sends the entire cast into a frenzy of laughter.

Bonus:

Mordin, Thane, and Legion’s death episodes cause fans to uproar and their deaths aren’t expected which hits harder for many, including the cast. Thane’s death particularly is taken hard when writers deliberately write his dialogue to imply his love for either Shepard as his final and dying wish. It sends everyone into tears on set. Legions “does this unit have a soul?” becomes one of the most commented things in online platforms causing discourse. Mordin’s passing was only slightly hampered since writers decided to have him survive in Renegade’s shep’s story.

 Samara also has a death episode under renegade shep. This causes some fan backlash.

“what if” romance episodes are once again created for every romance that was given in mass effect 2 and new ones were created for Samantha, Steve, and Diana.

Edi’s popularity rises once she is introduced into the season with her body. 

Kolyat is once again offered many roles in other films and shows with his acting in both Thane’s death and the citadel episode.

“The citadel” episode is the last filmed and every one of the cast and crew are in tears when they’re filming re-shoots. No one can hold it together. Not even Samara. Garrus, Tali, Wrex, and Liara particularly never let go of each others hands when they’re in between takes. 

Shepard is the worst in crying but they hustle through their scenes before the waterworks come. 

When the “What if,”  scenes are filmed for romances in the citadel episode, Garrus, Tali, Liara, Kaiden/Ashley are the hardest to film and they’re all fighting to not cry. This is also true in their final scene together with shepherd in their other final episode re-shoots of “priority: earth.”

Anderson and Shep’s last scene together is done in one take and is the fastest done in the final days of filming.

Once the entirety of the show is filmed every cast member who has been a part of the series show up and throw a large party for themselves. :)

Jason gets adopted by Bruce and instead of becoming Robin, he channels all his frustration and energy into a more, uh. Conventional outlet? Basically, Alfred gets hold of him and while Bruce is busy planning for new baby Robin, Jason is being introduced to Shakespeare and suddenly there's no interest in punching bad guys, just in learning fencing and joining the drama club. Which. Okay?? He guesses he's now a stage dad??? And, of course, with Alfred to train him and very enthusiastic parental support, Jason becomes an outstanding actor.

Tim, meanwhile, has a different life path. Without Batman taking an interest in his parents, the Drakes both die in Haiti. Tim goes into the system and has to learn to look after himself, look after all the other kids that need protecting too, because he can't not.

This is our backstory. Now the main show.

When Jason sees the person that Bruce hired to keep him safe after the recent round of death threats (apparently people aren't pleased with him playing a gay man in a positive and uplifting way), he wants to laugh. This guy is nearly a foot shorter than him, with half his muscle mass.

"You're supposed to protect me? Yeah right."

"Mr. Wayne, your father was aware of my credentials when he hired me and your father's valet personally vetted me."

Jason does a double-take because Alfred is crazy thorough when it comes to Jason's safety. (Bruce is too, but Bruce keeps trying to hire people who don't know the front end of a gun, which—Jason gets it, okay? But it's a good idea to at least have some knowledge of firearms in order to effectively counter them, even Batman gets that, but for some reason that logic goes out the window when it comes to non-vigilante stuff.) "No shit?"

"His daughter was the one who recommended me when the position became open. We've worked together in the past."

"That's ah. Good to know."

And then, like. There are all kinds of shenanigans that mostly involve Tim manhandling Jason to safety multiple times and showing that his very slick suits are hiding all kinds of muscles and eventually they end up hiding under the counter in a coat-check at some fancy party because this is Gotham and rogue attacks will happen. Tim pulls his weapon and insists that he's going to clear an exit for Jason and is about to pop up and do that, so of course Jason has to pull him in for a kiss before he stupidly risks his life, how could he not??

They get out safe and sound, but upon exiting the building it becomes obvious that this is a big, city-wide incident. Tim is scanning everywhere, trying to determine the best route to take to get his client safely out of the city (and definitely NOT having his cheeks heat up every time his eyes stray to Jason's mouth) when Nightwing and Batgirl just. Appear out of nowhere? And guide them to what's essentially a bunker/fallout shelter to wait out the chaos?

The end up stuck there for several days because that's how long it takes Gordon and the Bats to get things under control. By the time they come out, Tim has to tender his resignation due to conflict of interest, wink-wonk.

Shepard was alone when he caught up to her just outside the diner in the nearby alley, leaning against the aluminum siding and scowling at a large ventilation duct for some reason. 

“‘Archangel’ huh?” she muttered without looking up at him. “That’s…dramatic.”

Garrus chuckled, half abashed but not bothering to deny it. He wasn’t a good enough actor to pull it off and she wasn’t gullible enough to buy it even if he was. “Subtlety isn’t really a quality people look for in a local vigilante.”

What do you think would have happened if Korra hadn't been so badly hurt by Zaheer and was back in action within 2-3 months rather than 3 years?

Hi! Thanks for the ask! This is an au scenario with so many interesting possibilities.

The short answer: Game of Thrones, basically.

The long answer: I think there still would have been a lot of controversy surrounding the future of the Earth Kingdom Empire Republic, but much of it would get played out in the political arena—through alliances and intrigue—rather than through military conflict.

Assuming that the Earth Queen is still assassinated by Zaheer, the earliest parts of the campaign would play out in largely the same way. Kuvira and Baatar still fall out with Suyin and leave Zaofu for Ba Sing Se. However, when Korra joins up with them after a short period of convalescence in the Southern Water Tribe (and with Asami in tow), Su is forced to make a political calculation and retract her talons a bit. The idea that Kuvira betrayed her to pursue an unjustified power grab rings hollow to the public when the avatar herself is out on the front lines with her. In order to preserve her standing among the world leaders, Su sends money and resources to support the humanitarian efforts of the campaign, but her relationship with her son and former protege remains acrimonious.

Although the two have a shared vision of stability, prosperity, and modernization in the Earth Kingdom, Kuvira is willing to go to extremes to make these ideals an immediate reality, while Korra is more inclined to settle for incremental progress in the interest of maintaining peace and balance. Korra is disquieted by how Kuvira's forces dealt with the Dai Li prior to her arrival, but later concedes that there was really no peaceful way to remove the group's stranglehold over the city. Kuvira is irritated by Korra's focus on the environment—feeling that she prioritizes the whims of spirits over the needs of her people—but comes to appreciate the need for balance after witnessing the devastation wrought by angry spirits firsthand.

The avatar and the uniter disagree often, loudly, and at length throughout the campaign—Korra insisting that they must provide support to all municipalities, not just the ones that join their cause, and Kuvira railing against the legal and financial privileges conferred upon royalty and nobility—but somehow maintain a wildly effective working relationship and a strong friendship.

Meanwhile, the technology division—headed by Asami, Baatar, and Varrick—cranks out advances at a rapid pace. The spirit vine project gets underway a year earlier than in canon and is quickly established as a renewable energy source. Due to Asami's meticulous lab protocols—and her refusal to trust Varrick alone with the vines—the lab accident that led to their weaponization never takes place. Thanks to the combined efforts of the engineers, running water, electricity, and high-speed rail reach nearly every corner of the Earth Kingdom.

As the Earth Kingdom seems headed towards a period of calm and prosperity not seen since the Age of Yangchen, unrest threatens to begin anew over the question of who will lead the nation into this future.

After meeting Wu and finding him lacking, Kuvira has reservations about turning the kingdom back over to him—as in canon—and says so publicly in a live interview produced by Varrick's mover studio. The interview sways public opinion, especially among the young, and leads to mass demonstrations in Ba Sing Se, Republic City, and other locales against the restoration of the monarchy.

President Raiko, who has invested considerable time, effort, and UR taxpayer dollars into building a positive relationship with Wu—and picking all of his ministers—calls a meeting of the world leaders, prepared to spend all his political capital on getting the prince on his throne. Meanwhile, Suyin, the King of Omashu, and the leaders of a few other wealthy states make a play to declare independence from the reunified Earth Kingdom (and its higher tax rates for the rich) altogether.

In the meeting of the world leaders, Tonraq backs Kuvira, and Eska and Desna follow suit (if only because Wu annoys them and they'd prefer to see him less often). Raiko, of course, supports Wu and Tenzin agrees (if only for a swift return to normalcy and civility). Korra—who doesn't really get a vote on these things—attends the talks, but refuses to make any public comments on the matter, not wanting to escalate tensions by choosing a side.

The final decision largely comes down to Fire Lord Izumi, whose vote can go either way. In her view, neither option bodes particularly well for the Fire Nation. On the one hand, Kuvira's ascendancy would make the Fire Nation the only hereditary monarchy left in the world, making her rule (and later that of her children and grandchildren) much more vulnerable to calls for reform or revolution. But on the other hand, Wu's leadership would be so weak that he would either throw the largest country in the world back into instability, leading to the resurgence of bad actors like the Red Lotus or shadow governments like Long Feng's Dai Li, or allow it to become a vassal state of the United Republic, in thus turning the latter into the world's sole superpower.

Liking neither option, Izumi calls for a pause in discussion among world leaders and then sets up another meeting. In the presidential suite of the Four Elements, the Fire Lord tells Kuvira that she will support her rule over the Earth Kingdom in its entirety—including Zaofu, Omashu, and other states that wish to break away—but she will only support her as Kuvira the Earth Queen. In essence, Izumi asks her to enter a political marriage with Wu to preserve the image of the monarchy, and promises to deliver not only her backing, but also Tenzin's if she's willing to comply.

Being a shrewd political actor, Kuvira knows what she's being offered—legitimacy, longevity, unfettered power, unchanged borders. The only problem is, she's already engaged.
