I absolutely love how Evangelion has left such a lasting impact on popular culture even outside of Japan! So much so that there are several references to the classic anime in major American animated shows like Steven Universe & Gravity Falls!

Knowing that Rebecca Sugar & Alex Hirsch are apparently also fans of Hideaki Anno’s magnum opus puts a massive smile on my face!

seeing the end of evangelion in theaters was fucking amazing

the surround sound made it sound like people were laughing in one corner of the theater, but it was actually just one of the characters in the movie

and i could hear sounds that i couldn't when i watched the movie on my computer, sounds that i didn't even know played at that part!

and i knew the credits were in the middle of the movie, but the end was so much more impactful because of that when i saw it in theaters!

shinji stopped strangling asuka when she reached out to connect with him, he cried, she said "how disgusting", and then the words "the end" showed up on a white background

then the screen went black

and everyone was quiet

and we all just got up and left when we were ready

but then after that, when i was in the hallway, i saw someone else with a rei plush

i held mine out to them and said "high five" and our plushies high fived!

people complimented my cosplay

i saw someone with a cool shirt and i told them i liked their shirt

i connected with people!

i may never meet them again, but i had that connection with them because i saw we had a common interest and i reached out!

seeing that movie made me feel like i want to try to do that more

it made me feel like, even though i tend to be quite an anxious person, i can still connect with people and make new friends

it made me feel like there are more people in the world who i can connect with and who i can love and who can love me, too!
