But if the Nome King could take out Mombi, the witch with the most Wickedness, that didn't say much for my chances of defeating Ev's most sinister senior citizen on his own turf.

Title: Dorothy Must Die
Author: Danielle Paige
Series or standalone: series
Publication year: 2014
Genres: fiction, fantasy, retelling, adventure
Blurb: She didn't ask for any of this. She didn't ask to be some kind of hero. But when your whole life gets swept up by a tornado and takes you with it, you have no choice but to go along, you know? Sure, she's read the books. She's seen the movies. She knows the song about the rainbow and the happy little bluebirds. But she never expected Oz to look like this. To be a place where good witches can't be trusted, wicked witches may just be the good guys, and winged monkeys can be executed for acts of rebellion. There's still a yellow brick road...but even that's crumbling. What happened? Dorothy. They say she found a way to come back to Oz. They say she seized power and the power went to her head. And now, no one is safe. Her name is Amy Gumm...and she's the other girl from Kansas. She's been recruited by the Revolutionary Order of the Wicked. She's been trained to fight. And she has a mission.

So is the DMD Scarecrow story your idea or did you get it from someone else. Because it’s really good so far, it’s like a twisted version of wizard of OZ.
Can’t wait for the next part (hopefully).
Nooooo no no XD, its a book series by Danielle Paige! ^^ You should read it!! There are 4 main books (Dorothy Must Die, The Wicked Will Rise, Yellow Brick War, and The End of Oz) plus, I believe- 3 books with mini novellas in them? I'm reading one of those at the moment (Vol 2 cuz its the one with the individual Tin Man, Scarecrow and Lion focused stories).
They draw inspiration from the movie, the book, and the underrated sequel movie which I think is very cool even having never read the original L. Frank Baum book (Its on my list though ^^).

i don’t know about you, but i love retellings! as a kid, i grew up surrounded by the wizard of oz given that my extended family lives in kansas. i was not sure how the story could be reimagined, but paige’s twisted version of oz was extremely engaging and refreshing. it did not take long for me to root for “the other girl from kansas” —amy gumm. seeing that the last time i read this series was i six years ago, i am definitely due for a reread! i recommend this collection to lovers of fantasy, retellings, and the world of oz!

Why does there have to be a beginning and an ending?... If you ask me, it's all middle.

THE END OF OZ BY DANIELLE PAIGE
The final instalment of a series that I love ever so much.
Because the stories of Oz are my favourite tales ever and I hold Dorothy and the gang so closely to my heart, I would’ve expected to be appalled by a modern, radical adaptation. Wrong-O.
It’s wonderfully accurate. It includes parts and places straight from Baum’s original works, which is so important to me! One might think that to execute this series perfectly, that the author would have to read Baum’s 15 original works, but I didn’t expect that much and I was pleasantly surprised when I got it.
I initially thought that there was no possible way that I was going to be fully happy with the outcome. I genuinely thought, and after my extensive experience with the ends of YA novels, that Amy would stay in Oz with Nox. I really thought that. So for her to choose Kansas. Then for Nox to appear in Kansas… Shock. I mean, this is a guy from a literally Magical place. Why would he have chosen Kansas? Why would she? Anyway, it all worked itself out in the end.
Unfortunately, there are may parts of the previous books that I don’t remember and so I wasn’t able to appreciate now. For example, in the story selections, I remember something about Melindra and Lanadel’s relationship, but nothing much. I can’t even remember meeting Melindra originally… Anyway, still love the series. I suppose that will only make for more mystery when I read it the second time around.
A good read. Would recommend.

Book recommendation? Yes. If you're into Young Adult, Fantasy Fiction, or Twisted Classics. I suggest picking up this series. It's a take on what could happen if Dorothy returned to Oz and decided she wanted all the power.
