I've got a rec. it's maybe the best pacific rim au I've read of any fandom. wwx left after piloting alone (jc was knocked out but does science with the Jaegers/kaiju after) and then he adopts a-yuan. but of course the Jaeger program needs him back (and guess who he's paired with😏)
a good sense of family among the Jaeger pilots and every else in the Jaeger program (except for one person who gets what's coming to them) with multiple povs. I don't think you need any pacific rim knowledge to read it - Anon

Summary: The Untamed/Pacific Rim fusion nobody asked for but I wrote anyway. =D Wei Wuxian shook his head. “Listen, Wen Qing, even if I was willing to come back, I don’t have a partner anymore. Jiang Cheng can never set foot in a Jaeger again and you know that.” “Then we’ll find you one.” “And I let some complete stranger into my head? That’ll go well. They’ll run screaming into the night.” Newcomers to the Pacific Rim world welcome!

Weekly Music Roundup 5/7/24 :D
Hey! I hope y'all had a great week. I've been super busy as of late since I'm packing and preparing for a long trip, but I still managed to squeeze some listening into my miserable daily Walmart visits. I didn't keep with the daily schedule, but I have many albums to get through on the 12-hour drive that I will probably be on when this is posted. Good times!
This week, I listened to:
underscores - Wallsocket (Director's cut)
Everyone Asked About You - Everyone Asked About You - EP
Tinashe - 333
English Teacher - This Could Be Texas
Syzy - The weight of the world

underscores - Wallsocket (Director's cut) (2024)
I started my Friday out by listening to the new Wallsocket deluxe “Director’s cut” tracks. Holy shit holy shit holy shit holy shit. These new tracks, albeit mostly familiar to me ("My guy (Corporate shuffle)" and "Northwest zombie girl" can both be found on Wallsocket ARG websites, and April teased "Stupid (Can't run from the urge)" on Tiktok), are absolutely breathtaking. "My guy (Corporate Shuffle)" is a wonderful throwback pop song that has a simple shuffling beat, but by the end of the song it goes absolutely insane. "Northwest zombie girl" is super fun as well, but not my favourite upon first listen. I think i need a little more time with "CCTV" to really get it - these are my initial thoughts and not full reviews, and I still need to deep dive into this one's lyrics. However, the standout has GOT to be "Stupid (Can't run from the urge)." "Stupid" is a cute glitch-pop track with the punchiest percussion I've ever heard in a song. This might sound kind of weird, but each time I hear the kick I feel a kick in my chest. It's epic. The melodies are incredibly earwormy and I haven't been able to get the song out of my head. Overall, this new "Director's cut" builds upon an already incredible record (SERIOUSLY. Listen to Wallsocket if you haven't already. It's insane) with even more well-produced, well-written, well-sung, bangers. I wish anyone listening to Wallsocket for the first time "Good Luck!"
Everyone Asked About You - Everyone Asked About You - EP (1997)
We love a 4-track EP moment. I saw one of my AOTY mutuals give this a 100 so I listened to it because I had a free moment, and 4-track EPs are, like, my favourite thing ever. This is a cute set of twee / emo love songs with sugary melodies and adorable lyrics. It’s wholesome and loving and absolutely gorgeous throughout!
Tinashe - 333 (2021)
I can't recall a time I've ever been this excited about an artist as I have since I heard my first Tinashe song. Her artistry is unmatched and I seriously admire her refusal to adhere to basic cookie-cutter r&b, instead embracing a really unique and eclectic style. She’s been so consistently making some of the most innovative music in the industry, so it’s no surprise that 333 is as excellent as it is. This is a really solid addition to her discography, and while I think BB/ANG3L is a stronger record, 333 still shines. There's so many moments on this album that set it apart from other albums from similar artists. She explores so many different sounds and vibes on here - everything from breakbeats on "Shy Guy" to dance-pop on "The Chase." I'm so happy Nashe is getting more recognition these days; she really deserves all her flowers!!
English Teacher - This Could Be Texas (2024)
I first discovered English Teacher in August or September of last year, when their song "The World's Biggest Paving Slab" appeared on my Youtube recommended. I had that song on LOOP for months after that - it was just so damn good. I didn't really keep up with ET as a band in the months between "Paving Slab" and This Could Be Texas, their debut record. I saw it on AOTY when it first came out and was strangely, really scared to give it a listen. So I put it off way more than I should've. I guess a part of me was afraid that this album wouldn't live up to my expectations only hearing "Paving Slab.' But god damn did they deliver. Suffice to say this very much DOES live up to my expectations. There are so many diverse sounds and themes being explored here, all while going incredibly hard. The vocals are excellent, and the melodies are all so memorable. It's an ambitious album and it's clear that they've mastered their craft already, one album in. Ughhh it's so good. There's more exciting moments like the aforementioned "The World's Biggest Paving Slab" and "R&B," slower and gentler cuts like "Sideboob" (my FAV!!), and really fun synthy cuts like "Not Everybody Gets to Go to Space," which while being my least favourite, still sticks out to me! If that's the lowest point on your album, you have a damn good album. I'm so glad I mustered up the courage to finally listen to this, and I will eagerly await what other lessons my English Teachers will teach on their next record.
Syzy - The weight of the world (2024)
I want to start this blurb out by saying that riddim is NOT my forté. I am totally unfamiliar with the conventions of the genre and how this holds up compared to Syzy's contemporaries. That being said, this shit is heavy as fuck. I went into TWOTW totally blind, with no prior knowledge of what kind of music Syzy makes. All I knew was that there was a kmoe feature.
Each track is so intricately put together, with really delicate nuances and details hidden beneath the layers. This is an album that demands every ounce of your attention. I tried listening to this while reading a book (usually goes well, even with really loud shit) and I could not focus on the book at all. There is no way to tune this out. That being said, you won't want to tune this out. You will sit down and listen to TWOTW and you WILL enjoy it. There's something to like about this record for everyone - not just those who normally jive with this type of music. The melodies are incredible and the buildups and drops are immaculate. The production is so detailed, with flourishes here and there that keep you engaged. Not to mention the kmoe feature is phenomenal.
"HEART123" features a gorgeous, euphoric melody, and great vocals from Kale. The first drop took my breath away (as many moments on this project did...I need an inhaler), and the energy was infectious. Same goes for "Take my energy!", an obvious standout and definitely one of the best tracks I've heard this year. What the fuck? I'm headbanging so damn hard. The outro is one of the gentler passages on the record, giving you some breathing room before you're thrown back into the fun with "Caught up (in circles)" - a track that sounds like exactly that: spinning rapidly in a circle. That's my favourite 3-track run on the record, but I could go on and on about the track continuity like this. TWOTW manages to find a wonderful balance between soft, ambient sections and visceral yet euphoric drops. There's buildup and release. Inhales and exhales. Ups and downs.
This is starting to exceed my usual "short review" length and I'd really rather not make this a wall of text. I'll probably write a longer review for this record because HOLY SHIT??!?!??!!? But all in all, I think The weight of the world sees Syzy making some of the best electronic music out there. It's explosive and euphoric, with passages that both take your breath away and breathe life back into you. It's an insane effort and I'm definitely going to delve into more of their discography in the future. Wow, I love dubstep.
Okay! And that concludes my weekly first listens. I may or may not post next week - I'm going to be really busy and might not have time to write these. Nonetheless I'll try my best. See you soon and I hope you all have a great week :]

A preview for The Weight of the World chapter 16
Claire sat down on the bed, wincing at the soreness of her lower body. She stretched her legs out, noting the swelling of her calves and ankles. Her attention was drawn to Leon as he stripped off the grimy clothing from his body, dropping it in disgust. The redhead held in a gasp as she saw the physical proof of the torture he had endured.
Bruises littered his skin in varying sizes and colors. His complexion was pale, and his cheeks were gaunt. The rest of him looked whittled down. The strong muscles and confidence he normally displayed were absent. Lack of sustenance and degradation of his psyche left him a slip of his former self. He must have felt her eyes on him because he met her sorrowful gaze easily.
“I guess I look like absolute shit, huh?”
Claire felt her heart crack.
“Yeah,” she agreed, refusing to console him with falsities. “You have been through hell, Leon.”
“That’s an understatement,” he chuckled mirthlessly. “Come on, let’s shower.”
She bit her bottom lip with a feeling of unease.
“Okay,” she whispered. “I’ll need your help.”
A shadow flickered across his face. It was quick, but she caught it.
“Who hurt you?” He frowned, a darkness in his gaze that Claire had never seen. Sadness splintered behind her sternum.
“I don’t know who did this,” she sighed, trying to pull off the zip-down hoodie with great difficulty. She gave up, feeling flustered and annoyed. The twins kicked and Claire gasped at their strength. She relaxed when she felt Leon’s hands on her belly.
“Hey, kiddos,” he whispered. “Easy on your momma, okay? We’ll get some food and sleep soon.”
Claire watched Leon as he comforted the babies, a gentleness lighting his eyes that left her breathless. She felt heavy, hot tears dripping down her face. His gaze was on hers the moment a whimper left her lips.

The Weight of the World
The Uzumaki join the peace talks fairly early on, to adjust their own treaties now that the Uchiha and Senju have brokered a tentative alliance. Mito, who had been visiting family when this political mess started, returns. She is accompanied by three red headed Uzumaki and a boy that looks to have Kumo descent. The boy is introduced as Uzumaki Naruto, meaning he is one of the few Uzumaki born that inherit the colouring of their non-Uzumaki parent. It’s a surprisingly rare occurrence.
Tobirama is reminded, strangely, of Uchiha Sasuke.
The blonde is kind and easy to relax around, making friends easily with everyone who he talks with. It’s a useful skill for the treaties and more than once he ends up shattering rising tension, keeping the peace talks peaceful. He acts like an idiot most of the time, not in quite the same way as Hashirama, but there’s a sharp intelligence lurking in those blue eyes. He and Hashirama hit it off immediately and he even got Madara to open up to him enough for them to be considered friends. Tobirama knows the boy is chipping away steadily at his own defenses but... he can’t bring himself to care. The Uzumaki are allies and have been for a long time- that’s not going to change, no matter the result of this attempt at an alliance. At something more.
(Peace, Hashirama calls it, Naruto and Madara just as insistent at his brother’s side. Tobirama is more hesitant, less accepting of the ones that killed his younger brothers in cold blood, but he’s willing to try.
Has been trying, if the village plans he has stuffed away in his room, in his lab, in his office, are any indication. He doesn’t mention these to Hashirama or Madara. Not yet. Not until he knows it’ll be a success because if he endorses too much, gives Hashirama too much hope and it doesn’t work out, he’ll-
It’ll destroy Hashirama.)
"A marriage alliance," Rei, Tobirama’s favorite elder, offers, bringing his attention resolutely back to the current peace talk. The Uchiha bristle like offended cats and Tobirama’s brow furrows in confusion. There was no way they could have insulted the black-haired menaces just by mentioning it. Before it can escalate, before Tobirama himself gives in to his curiosity, the sun-kissed blond speaks up, surprisingly somber and serious.
"That’s impossible," he says, and his voice cuts through any rising tension like a hot knife through butter. He’s not at all accusatory or derisive but he stated the words like they’re irrefutable facts. Tobirama tilts his head and his gaze meets Hashirama’s equally confused eyes.
"Why?" Surprisingly, it’s Mito that asks. Naruto shrugs but not in a manner that says he doesn’t know but rather that he doesn’t really understand why he has to explain.
"The Uchiha only marry for love," he says matter-of-factly. "They don’t do arranged marriages or anything cuz the freedom to love is a big thing for them.” His nose wrinkles, the more serious air dispersing in a moment. "I mean, I don’t really understand arranged marriages either. They’re stupid."
"Really? Why do you say so?" Rei inquires, honestly curious. Another elder may have been insulted at such a swift refusal, particularly made by someone outside of the clan they were proposing the idea to; she’s his favorite for a reason.
"Well, they won’t really like each other and they might never like each other so their marriage might fall apart and since the alliance or peace was built on their marriage," Naruto shrugs, letting his words hang in the air. "Seems smarter to just work together on something." He shrugs again but there’s an almost mischievous spark in his eyes. "Like, say, a village." Hashirama freezes, jaw slack. Madara splutters, ear tips turning red. Tobirama grows suspicious. First Sasuke with his saving of Izuna and his lie, now Naruto with more information than he should rightly have. Something else is going on here; something bigger that they know.
Later, he hears Izuna ask Naruto, voice sharp, "where did you learn that?" The blond grinned, bright like the sun, and had leaned forward like he was sharing a secret. Perhaps he was.
"A man lost on the road of life, two of them, really, and an utter bastard of a teammate," he says, grin turning impish. It’s just loud enough for Tobirama and Izuna to hear but no one else. When those blue eyes flick to him, he knows it’s on purpose. Then he skips away, calling loudly for Mito. Tobirama takes the few steps to stand by his former rival’s side, both of their eyes still on Naruto as he bugs the Uzumaki delegation about something.
"Whatever happened to Uchiha Sasuke?" He asks.
"Sasuke?" Izuna inquires, tilting his head slightly towards him.
"The one that saved you," Tobirama clarifies after a moment, eyes narrowing in thought. He has a bad feeling about this.
"...I don’t know," Izuna says quietly, startling honest. "I never could find him again." They don’t speak again to each other but they have an understanding. Sasuke and Naruto are suspicious, no matter how helpful. Any animosity between themselves will be put on hold until they can figure out the truth behind these two strange shinobi. Shinobi that seem to have been trained together, despite how impossible that had been between an Uzumaki and Uchiha. The way they said it implied at least one more teammate, as well. A mystery that demands solving.
The Uzumaki delegation stays with the Senju, as expected, but Naruto disappears, only returning when he wanders into the peace talks. When asks, Mito had only offered a secretive smile and a vague, "oh, he explores, visits friends, you know how it is". Tobirama does not know how it is, something Mito knows, but he’s confident not even a boy like Naruto could have friends scattered around in Fire Country when he’s never been here before the peace talks. The Uzumaki stay on their island and the ones surrounding unless they’re merchants, after all, and Naruto is most certainly not a merchant. He gets nothing else out of the delegation, however, and Naruto seems to have an uncanny ability for timing his conversations with Izuna and Tobirama- now practically on a shared war path -with arguments between the stubborn elders of the three clans.
Then, two days before the Uzumaki leave (Mito staying, of course, to spend more time with her betrothed. Hashirama is elated), he disappears entirely (Tobirama caught the faintest traces of Sasuke’s chakra, half-forgotten in the political mire, but both Uzumaki and Uchiha signatures were gone before he could investigate).

Deaged Oz AU following Lionheart's betrayal
For @maskyartist, who wanted a scene where Oz breaks down and lets himself be a ten year old. This felt like the perfect point in the story to do it.
Qrow snapped awake with the ease of a trained huntsman. The night had been quiet, peaceful. But that silence was broken now by quiet, hiccupping sobs coming from one of the sleeping mats the kids were laid out on. Whichever one it was sounded heartbroken and he had a bad feeling he knew exactly who it was.
Moving quietly, he made his way to Oz's mat. Well, he was right, much though he wished he hadn't been. For all that the boy, so much younger looking in sleep, was still very much unresponsive, he was thrashing and moaning, tears streaming down his cheeks as he wept uncontrollably. Qrow gathered him up into his arms, uncaring of just how damp he was and started to rock him gently, humming nonsense into the boy's ear. That seemed to calm things slightly, though the sobs remained and Oz was shaking in his arms. He'd never seen him cry like this before, but then what Leonardo had done had certainly affected him on a very deep level. He'd been expecting something to break, even if not to this extent. He continued to rock him, wrapping him in his own cloak for added warmth. He was certain Oz would hate knowing this had happened when he woke up, but at least right now he could give him the hugs he so needed. At least here, in this moment, both of them were safe.

Somethings don’t seem so bad when you have someone with you. Never easy, but at least bearable. The important thing is you’re not alone. So that when you fall, someone can at least catch you and help you stand again.
