The Cliffs by J. Courtney Sullivan
This book was so well done. It is a tale of women throughout time in a very small town on the water in Maine. The story begins with a woman named Jane, and we meet Jane through the lens of her infatuation with a house on a cliff in the little town where she lives. Through the vehicle of the house, we meet people from the recent past, distant past, and the future. The story discusses so many interesting topics - colonialism, feminism, women's burdens, and so much more. The characters were so richly written that I felt as though I truly knew them. Not especially a fast read, but an in-depth and beautiful tale that I was happy to stay with an read for as long as it took. I would HIGHLY recommend this book.
This ebook was provided by NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

The Cliffs (but my Au in 5 sentences or less)
The Cliffs: Robert has tried everything to calm his fussy toddler son. He's tried videos, books, parenting advice, and even the dreaded ‘ignore them’ mindset but it was all in vain. But buying off a considerably worn-out golden teddy bear at a thrift store has become a lifesaver. His son was finally silent, sleeping with the golden bear and having an attachment to it. But the more his son spends with the teddy bear the more Robert feels something worse is yet to come.
The Breaking Wheel: Reed has always been bullied by Julius, ruthlessly being mentally and physically challenged in school to no end. Growing frustrated, Reed claims that he can handle anything up to Julius’s mind and Julius figured out the best place for it. If Reed could spend one night in the new Freddy’s pizzeria with all kinds of animatronics then he’ll leave him be. Reed agreed only if Julius would come with him to see if any of them would man up to stay for that long. Julius agreed, thinking nothing of the horrors that would happen within the pizzeria and the monsters from within.
He Told Me Everything: Chris feels completely and utterly alone with what he has to deal with. He can't talk to his family or friends about the issue so he takes to the internet to vent out his frustrations. He managed to find someone that understands his issue and is always there for him whenever he needs to vent. One day, however, his friend asks if they could meet face to face, and not thinking too much of it, Chris agreed. Thinking of the pfp of a bunny in mind, Chris travels to the intended destination to finally meet his internet friend.
Stitchwraith: Ryan is missing. The moment Larson entered his apartment after the event of the abandoned warehouse he found his son missing from his room. He can make all the calls he wants, face his enraged wife, and even face criticism for leaving his child alone in his apartment. He doesn't want to think about it but he feels as if he already knows who or what tool his son is. Looking upon the childish drawing that his son created, he sees a thin and elegant figure of a Puppet crudely drawn holding his son’s hand.

i met one of my aunt's archaeologist friends/colleagues earlier today & he was telling me about legends that not too far from here there's the ghosts of a roman legion that people see walking up the cliff towards the edge of the sea and then off the edge of the cliff and onwards, because the coastline has receded so much since roman times that the 'land' they're used to walking on goes on far past the point it falls into the sea today. and like. OUGH. I don't even strictly believe in that type of ghost but I'm Obsessed with this image of them still interacting with landscape that has crumbled into the sea & completely disappeared over the thousands of years since they were alive. ghost landscapes Real

The Cabin lift, now disused, one of Blackpool's architectural wonders. Tourists say, "I wonder what that's there for".

The previous weekend had been the vacationers' last hurrah, the town packed full of people and cars. For three days, wanting to avoid them, Jane barely left the house. Not until 7pm on Monday did she go further than the end of the road. She wandered then to the Cliffwalk, and found it close to empty. On the stretch of sand in the distance, not a single umbrella could be seen. All the tourists were sitting in traffic on 95, homeward-bound. The people of Awadapquit had their town to themselves again. This was her favorite time of year here. It had been her grandmother's favorite. Her mother's too.
