i found your blog through those drawings u made of the bats as. well. as bats and ive rlly just tuned in since!!! and then i got recommended your drawings with ra's and the bat bats (haha) and kid talia and just generally being a good guy and it was intriguing to me at the beginning!!!! since back then i was still following the general (unfortunately) popular fanon interpretation of ra's as an evil scummy irredeemable bad guy and from those drawings i just kept checking out your ra's content and slowly getting invested in him outside of the bad guy fanon ra's view i knew

and like. idk i phrased this differently in my head BUT!!!!! those drawings of you really did shift my interpretation of him and has gotten me interested in like saving up to read his comics and because of those drawings i enjoy taking a scroll (haha. get it.) thru his tag on here (so much filtered out tim posts. not fun.) and i just like thinking about him in general!!!! i like to doodle him and see posts about him!!!!!!! and it was all because of those drawings you made!!!!!!

to you it may just be rather insignificant or unimportant when you post those drawings of a ra's that is good and loves his family and is more than the fanon interpretation that he's stuck with!!!!!! to you it may just be regular fun sharing your interpretations of ra's!!!!!!! but idk i just find it really important for you to know that i do deeply appreciate all the posts you make about him and it's important to me that you know that it was genuinely impactful for me!!!!!! i am not kidding at all!!!!!!!! i gained a genuine appreciation for ra's in general and that appreciation of him has led me to being just generally happy because having characters i like thinking about a lot makes me happy!!!!!!!!! you have impacted me very positively with just that!!!!!!!!

awww thank you! i really appreciate it! it’s fun that someone out there thinks of the as the ra’s al ghul guy. he totally just captivated me, i got sooo fixated on him, and it’s honestly been kind of fun to read about him.

i don’t think it’s insignificant either! i stumbled upon ghost-maker by accident while looking at someone else’s blog, (they’re now a mutual of mine <3) and was interested in him and then i fell so in love with him now that i have tattoos and made merch and cosplayed him because i came to adore him so much. sometimes a small little spike of interest can lead to something so much more.

also, i read so many of Ra’s al Ghul’s comics online using free sites! comics can get so expensive and trying to collect physical copies can be hard! don’t ever feel bad for reading stuff online for free :)

its fascinating because - this isn't true. The bank isn't the cause of everything going to hell for Amy. If we want to pick a point, it's Leviathan's attack but...

On the other hand, Leviathan's attack is the result of the unmasking of the Empire (and maybe Noelle's presence, according to common fanon) and the chaos that had created, and Coil was only able to do that because of Dinah which he captured during the Bank job.

Also the whole Lung being caught and Bakuda going nuts thing, etc.

So she's sort of right.

This is where it becomes really hard to actually get a good understanding of what exactly happens to take the Amy we see in Interlude 2 (the girl who is trying to be the voice of moral reason for Vicky, little miss police brutality herself - that is the takeaway from Interlude 2, coming in blind) to... the girl who is going to (according to the 'Official Interpretation™' anyway) rape her sister.

We only get a first look at her in Interlude 11h, and 11h crams so many revelations into one chapter and doesn't give us a chance to digest and then Amy vanishes again for a whole arc and then only a little shows up in 13.

Obviously, a lot is going on in the story, but I do think if it was really important to Wildbow that we take a certain POV on Amy, as he purportedly intended, maybe he should have shown more of her.

So we don't really know what was going through her mind, or what her life was like after the Bank and before Leviathan. Vicky does say in 11h that after the Bank Amy was acting differently... it both does and doesn't make sense she'd react so badly to the near miss in the Bank (near miss in terms of the reveal of her horrible secret that actually had it been revealed in the bank probably wouldn't have ruined her life as much as she was afraid of).

So without that look, it's hard to say if Amy is right that everything went bad because of the Bank. On the one hand, it's easy to say that's all nonsense. On the other hand, the Bank could have been the catalyst that ramped up all her anxieties and issues and set into motion the thought patterns that made her run away after healing mark.

(i.e. perhaps no Bank, Amy is in just enough of a better enough mental state to not run off. Probably not but... maybe)

Narratively, of course, the bank is indeed when everything goes downhill for her and for the entire city, implicitly. Arc 1 and the capture of Lung is the start of the story for us the reader, but for the city at large, Arc 3, and all that comes with it wrt to Dinah does end up being the point where the story really kicks into motion and gear, and where wider events go nuts.

As for Amy's immediate 'fuck off Tattletale'... yeah, I mean, if I was Amy, I would be like that too. Tattletale isn't evil, exactly, but she's not exactly a nice person to be around, especially when you're as wound tight as Amy, and the girl just can't not poke at shit. And to be honest, I'm not sure Tattletale's track record of eliciting intended reactions from the people she's poking at is as good as she, or some fans, seem to think. She's great at knowing shit, sorta, but she's not great at actually using what she knows on people, arguably.

3. Least favorite canon thing about this character?

i have studied Gregory's canon character extensively and it's a huge reason why i love him so much (and why i so despise a certain fanon version that has eclipsed canon) so this is really hard. HOWEVER….. i do hate his canonical reaction to learning Stan failed his mission. i know it's just to make Wendy start to dislike him so she'll get back together with Stan at the end of the movie, but this was such an important mission that Gregory put so much effort into planning! it implies the death of one of his only friends, Christophe! there's no way Gregory in that moment is the same as the Gregory in the rest of the film to me. or i have to believe that's he's just SO upset that he's lashing out and his tone poorly conveys the true depth of his emotions.

8. What's something the fandom does when it comes to this character that you despise?

can i say the entirety of Hell//park lmao. lowkey serious. i've spoken often about how HP was a blight on Gregory's characterization, interpreting him as a generic snobbish evil twink. this (or one of the many HP spinoffs that copy-pasted this personality instead of his canon one) was unfortunately a lot of people's introduction to him as a character, which means that i see many Gregory fans taking him one of two directions: 1) they take him the sexy sadist manipulater route, cold and dismissive, hungry only for power 2) they infantalize this version, making him more like a random xD feral wild card silly guy if you were ever in the Gravity Falls fandom, they do to him what people did to Bill Cipher basically. and don't get me wrong, i'm not saying i dislike people doing that! i love how insane the GF fandom goes with Bill but it makes sense for him bc he's a chaos demon. Gregory is a revolutionary freedom fighter with occasionally poor people skills. i feel like barely any active fans remember that.

16. What's your least favorite ship for this character?

i have one beloved mutual who likes this ship so i hope she understands but….. probably greg/stella. most bc every art i see for it ever is HP-based (designs and personalities) which i am clearly not a fan of lol. also, all the love to the Estella fans out there, but she's just not for me. which makes it hard to care about ships that have her.

22. If you're a fic reader, what's something you like in fics when it comes to ths character? Something you don't like?

ok this is a little hard to describe but i love when fics show that Gregory actually cares?? whether it be for Christophe (as most of the fics i read are gregstophe lol) or about his job or a cause or whatever. i find a lot of fics are able to show him as a caregiver, but don't always show him caring. to me, that's such a core part of who he is. he fights bc he cares, he helps bc he cares, he gets angry and sometimes flippant about others bc he cares so much about what he believes in that he puts on blinders to others' (and tbh his own) emotions. something i don't like is when people do the exact opposite of this lol.

25. What was your first impression of this character? How about now?

i do not fully remember what i thought of Gregory specifically, but i have such a vivid memory, right after i watched BLU for the first time, going onto [social media platform redacted bc my account there is cringe af] and saying how i totally shipped Gregory and Christophe and wanted to RP them with someone lmao now... well, i still ship him with Christophe so not much has changed there i guess. but now i like to think about him much more in depth than i did back then. back when i was younger, i don't think the fic i wrote really explored the actual characters so much as it put two guys through a bunch of tropes. nowadays, i want myself and the reader to really understand the depth of those two guys and why exactly i am putting them through certain tropes.

Hmm... this is hard HAHA I can't think of any atm! I always love Pokémon au's, so anything I love in the Pokémon universe will be fun! Oh, and the other day I watched Death Note right before I went to sleep and had a Light Yagami!Hemlock dream which was...an experience. Not sure how a Death Note Star Wars universe would work, a lot of stuff would need to be changed, but it would be funny as hell.

Q - A fandom you’ve abandoned and why?

Another hard one, I don't really abandon fandoms, I just...stop liking shows as much and don't feel the "need" to interact with them anymore. I guess I still really enjoy Gravity Falls, but don't engage with the fandom at all anymore except when I'm feeling nostalgic. I didn't even know about the current countdown on the website until last night! I used to be ALL on top of that!

W - A trope which you are virtually certain to hate in any fandom

I'm not sure if the question means fanfic tropes or au's or what. So I'll just list some stuff in general fandom spaces I don't like bc I'm a hater. If you like these, MORE POWER TO YOU! I'm sure there's HEAPS of stuff I like that you don't! Live laugh love <3

I don't like coffee shop au's, florist au's, the "omg they turned into a baby and the other/s have to look after them!" trope, honestly not a huge fan of soulmate au's, dont like a/b/o at all sorry.

I HATE it when certain characters (COUGH COUGH WRECKER, COUGH COUGH PINKIE PIE) get get infantilised/woobiefied despite being grown adults just because they're a bit silly. I DO NOT LIKE IT when grown adults are reduced to The Mum Of The Group™ for...no reason. Yes, that last point is about fanon Echo. I do not like fanon Echo and I am not in the mood to talk about why rn HAHA.

Anon, honestly there are more but saying the real heavy-hitting will get me assassinated by the fandom secret service.

O - Choose a song at random. Which ship or character does it remind you of?

I don't really think of pre-existing characters or ships when I listen to music, to be honest! When I listen to music, I primarily see if it can remind me of one of my oc's. And you know, if I actually enjoy the song or not. So I won't be able to answer this question, either!

That being said, Brutus by The Buttress (I LIKED THE SONG BEFORE TIKTOK FOUND IT!) reminds me of Captain Rex. Not because of the "My name is Brutus, but the people will call me Rex" line, but because the theme and story of the song matches up with my personal headcanon of the clones secretly holding grudges against the Jedi for always, even if unintentionally, being famed and loved throughout the galaxy for being peacekeepers and fighting the war while it was actually the clones on the front line dying, with lifespans too short for the senate to seriously consider actually giving rights to. For most clones, it was a mild annoyance. For others, it was a real grievance.

I like to think, in my interpretation, the line "I don't want want you have, I want to be you" has two meanings. The first: Those jealous clones maybe didn't mind carrying out Order 66. Of course, it's wrong. The Jedi did their best. But if I were a clone...yeah. I might harbour some ill feelings towards the sect of people using me like that. I would want to be appreciated as more than a solider, I'd want the right to choose. I'd want to be them.

The other meaning I have relates more to Rex himself. I wonder how much pain and guilt he's felt since the ship went down with Jesse and the others still in it. He is one of few left to pick up the scraps and continue fighting what seems to be a hopeless battle without resources or assurance. He's the one people turn to, now. How often does he think of Jesse, or Cody, or Fives, or Kix? How many times has he remembered the total lack he had when he was trying to kill Ahsoka, and ordering his men to do the same? Watching his own body and voice act unable to stop it... I think it eats away at him. I think he has major survivors guilt. I think he sometimes, privately, secretly, wishes he were Jesse or Ridge or Fives. I think he wishes he were dead. "I don't want what you have, I want to be you". He wouldn't feel as horrible. He wouldn't feel anything. He'd see them again.

I know neither of these headcanons are popular, nor well-thought out atm HAHA but that's what I feel!

Rambling below cut, I'm cringe, proceed at your own risk

I felt emboldened to write this bc A) I've been trying not to slip into a manic EP and B) was emboldened by a fellow blogger who wrote abt something similar.

Confession time: I've really never understood the concept of kinning a character. Like yes I've had characters I can relate to I suppose. But never someone who I was like. Yes that's me.

Until I found The Wolverine™ and the clouds parted and the heavenly light shone down upon me as angels sang to me sweetly.

I watched wolverine:origins when I was much younger, but it wasn't until after DP3 that I was really like yeah let me go watch all the Xmen movies. Part of it is also that I am so incredibly down bad for both Wade and Logan, like I have brainrot, I have consumed poolverine media in some shape or form almost everyday for months now.

I havent had a fandom become this much of an interest in a long time. The last time was in 2016 with Voltron. (God y'all remember that shit? That was the good ol days. Truly the golden age of Tumblr and fandom) anyways, I've been obsessed, and the interest hasn't wavered. Usually I would have gotten bored with a fandom or ship after a couple months. But these characters...

Another thing that sets it apart, usually, I tend to daydream about an original character or self insert interacting with this world or these characters. I love creating a storyline to fit myself into the world. I enjoy thinking of how these characters would react to my OC.

But that's changed, where I find myself easily seeing myself as Logan when reading fics or thinking up scenarios.

I think there's multiple reasons why I enjoy putting myself in this characters place so much.

1) I relate the the concept of being a grumpy old man / lone wolf type.

in the sense of, I don't understand computers well. I'm an introvert. I generally don't have many friends. I have said on multiple occasions I wish I could go just live in the woods. Like I think I could make it, genuinely lol. I've also had people assume I'm older than I actually am. Something about the way I carry myself. And old people love that, because I guess they perceive it as me being more respectful towards them.

2) this is more fanon. But. Every fic I've read with Logan as a transman. I just relate so much. I also headcanon Logan looking more like he does in the comics, shorter, like 5'8 instead of 6ft like in the movies. I also think he would have a little more of a stomach, a higher body fat percentage than Hugh Jackman has lol. Also in the comics they usually draw him as real hairy which I love. This interpretation of Logan as average height, bigger, hairier, just makes him so much more relatable to me as a fat hairy trans man.

3) I kinda could look like Logan, in the sense of. Im a man with short, brown hair, a beard, brown eyes, more body hair. Also,there is so little representation of men who are bigger and hairier. Like I feel like I could never relate to, say an anime character in the same way because it's so unrealistic. I love that so many people find this character attractive for these traits. To see people write about Logan gaining weight and being healthier. Or how part of the attraction is that this man is hairy like a bear lol. It helps me feel better about my body in a way.

2and 3 are kinda the same but

4) The idea of regressing into something feral. I really do not like age regression at all. However you make that up grown man into a puppy? Into a subservient dog? Or alternatively

You make that man into a snarling feral animal? Watch him snap and claw and tear shit up? That does something for me. Like yes in a sexual sense. But also in the sense of. I often feel disconnected ffrom my body or reality. The though of being so entirely in the present moment and so entirely yourself that all you have are your base instincts. It soothes something in me.

The thought that, I could be aty very worst. Either my most helpless, naive, vulnerable, trusting self. Or my most angry and unhinged self. And I could still be loved. And I could still be desired. To think I could express myself fully and be accepted unconditionally has honestly changed my fufking brain chemistry.

Like part of why I'm so invested in this character is I feel like when he's healed, it heals a part of me I wouldn't have been able to otherwise.

Also, I just enjoy how this fandom is not afraid to deal with dark subjects, like violence or even things others would consider gross like gore and body horror. I've even read fics about everything from chronic pain, to sexual assault, gender dysphoria, homophobia, grief, manipulation.

You wrote a fic about piss kink? Weight gain kink? Cannibalism? Okay cool post that shit. Ya know? I really appreciate that it doesn't feel censored here when so many other spaces are losing their edge. Bc God forbid we talk about sex or violence on the internet 🙄

It feels safer to be someone who's experienced difficult things, like I'm not afraid of being judged if everyone else interacting with this stuff is also a freak of some kind ya know?

And man, it's difficult to say which fandom I like the most. Apart from DBH, I haven't really interacted with what I would think of as The Fanbase™, so for the sake of comparison I'll focus on the characters.

My favourite characters - if we talk about canon - are probably Death Stranding. I don't reblog stuff from that game often, but the humanity of the main cast is amazing, and the struggle against a quiet, unforgiving landscape... let's say it is A Vibe.

In terms of the favourite cast that I like to play with like a collection of dolls, however, I'll have to say Call of Duty. I'm only familiar with the reboot universe, but between mw19, mw2, and mw3, there is actually a lot of characters I can work on. It helps that the operators' backgrounds are on the vaguer side, which gives me a lot more room in terms of their backstory, characterisation, relationships, etc. Some of my interpretations are quite different from the so-called fanon though, and most of the characters I'm into aren't exactly the most popular ones anyway - e.g. my Otter/Wyatt fanfic is the second fic with the tag on ao3 and they've been around since mw19 - so most of my ideas exist either in Discord DMs or WIPs in my Google Drive. Maybe I'll finish another one some day. Idk if you've read the omegaverse aledolfo fic but by god that universe has expanded a lot since that fic and has got a lot darker too. I won't call my interpretations canon though, because again, the actual 'canon' of the operators can fit into half a sheet of A4 paper. Not saying I'm disregarding it though; I know ignoring canon is the approach of a lot of people, but for myself I prefer knowing the rules before breaking them. It's just more fun to me to work within the loose limits set by the information provided to us in the games.

When it comes to favourite cast to write, it's a tie between CoD and Mass Effect: Andromeda, the former because I always have fresh ideas and the characters are legit fun to play with (especially if you allow them to be toxic, make mistakes, and be their own self instead of shoving them into a select few tropes), the latter because I keep returning to them. Nothing grand about the MEA cast because most of my ideas are closer to slice-of-life things, but boy is CoD's dynamics fun to play around. The international politics. The implications of the different factions in mw19. The composition of the two PMCs in mw2. I know a lot of people try to stay on top of the politics, but why sanitise things when leaning hardcore into the political aspect makes the sandbox so much more interesting and dramatic?

I can go on for much longer, but what I have in mind will probably take days if not weeks to comb through. Anyways, hope I've answered your question, and feel free to ask any follow-up questions if you have any!

I'm new to Leverage fandom, and I'm a tad confused🙈 What's meant by ot3? Because I really like P, H, E as a platonic team, and close friends, but I only ship Parker and Hardison romantically. Does the ot3 mean platonic? Or is it all 3 of them as a romantic poly triad? "Everyone" in fandom seems to ship ot3, I feel so out of the loop, what am I missing? I tried to find hints in the show of Eliot being part of the romance, and I don't, and I want to be part of it all, but I don't understand

And I have shipped triads before, so it's not /that/ I can't wrap my head around. it's just Eliot being romantically involved with Parker and Hardison I can't see. But people keep saying it's canon, and that it's not a fanon ship, and that's where I'm lost. Because obviously I'm missing something huge, this is the biggest pairing in fandom for a reason, and I feel stupid, because what don't I see that everyone else does? Please help!

Yeah, so basically, if you're only into Parker and Hardison romantically and Eliot as their bestest bud, that's a valid interpretation. Parker/Hardison are explicitly a couple, and Eliot does still date other people. I don't think anyone will really make a case that you're wrong for not seeing it like that.

But, essentially, it's a combination of the show naturally grouping them together, a friendly fandom averting shipping wars, and idealization of the individual ways those three show devotion.

The show makes a distinction, in terms of character work, between Nate&Sophie, who are a unit and will bounce off each other for most of their development and subplots, and Parker&Hardison&Eliot, who are a unit and do the same. Nate&Sophie are a couple, and Parker&Hardison are a couple, and then there's Eliot, sort of flapping free in the wind, prime shipping real estate without a recurring love interest but with two characters whom he unarguably loves and bonds with.

And the chemistry is important too. Parker&Eliot is a good dynamic: they're both damaged and hardened and trying to find a purpose in a world that left them to their own terrible devices. Eliot gets Parker in a way Hardison, who is remarkably trauma-free for a word-class criminal, doesn't. And anyone who's seen Hardison&Eliot knows those two have committed to annoying each other for life; they both come alive when they're needling each other, but they both take care of each other in their own quiet ways. Given this show devotes way more screentime to the found family than the romance, we get about as much time spent on those dynamics as we do on Parker&Hardison, and we see how indispensable each one is.

(If Leverage had a bitchier fandom, this would probably result in endless feuding, but no one wants that here, and this is a happy compromise.)

So yeah, if you don't see it, you don't see it, and I honestly don't have it in me to write a lengthy post with lots of screenshots and examples of moments they Invented Love™, but basically, the show gave us a romantic pairing plus one extra person who can never be cast aside and who loves each member of the pairing as much as they love each other. And then the show told us they're going to stay together for the rest of their lives. This is what happens.

Honestly I’m kinda boring when it comes to headcanons, they’re mostly canon compliant or I end up floating about on the general consensus of popular fanon. Here, however, is a bunch of little titbits!

~Hifumi draws like Boichi. The idea he has a super detail oriented style and not a cutesy one cracks me up.

~The difference between Taeko and Celeste; those colour contacts are prescription. (Taeko doesn’t look too dissimilar to Toko and she hates that)

~Likewise, Gundham takes forever to get ready as he re-applies the “wards necessary to allow mere mortals to withstand the presence of The Supreme Overlord of Ice”

~Kazuichi on the other hand is au naturale. He just looks like that.

~Hiro is right, where do you think his clairvoyant abilities came from?

~Taka has had to shave every morning since he was 13, (he looks like Masaaki Sakai from Monkey if he grows it out) Mondo will never be able to grow any facial hair, and he’s salty about it. His hair is naturally curly but he straightens the back for that Pomp Aesthetic

~Taka is a very restless sleeper, never wakes up in the same position as he went to sleep. At Hope’s Peak he usually finds himself waking up across the room, on the floor.

~Additionally, He eats like a gannet - maximum efficiency (until he gets indigestion) [more on this]

~Red eyes and a diabolical resting bitch face is the dominant trait of the Ishimaru Bloodline. (POV trying to have a casual conversation)

~Takaaki is a divorcee not a widower; his marriage was an arranged one organised by Toranosuke, and when the scandal went down the marriage was dissolved by the bride’s family. [more on this]

Ah! I can understand the confusion! That was actually an older Mondo, as the anon had asked about Kaito being Mondo and Taka’s kid. I’m easy going when it comes to pairing characters together, I don’t mind answering questions along that vein! I love to see other people’s interpretations, and how they imagine a relationship develops. I’ve seen some absolutely adorable art of them as a couple! Personally however, I don’t have a good idea of their chemistry in my head, so I don’t think of them as being together. At the very least not in this weird AU thing I’ve got going on.

Bold of you to assume Takemichi hasn’t been keeping it a secret. Not out of fear or shame, but rather because Michi would do anything to keep nosy, overbearing, meddling Daiya out of his love-life. He’s seen how Daiya absolutely ROASTS Mondo every-time he strikes out, and Michi ain’t about to open himself up to that. I imagine Daiya finds out whilst frequenting a gay bar- like that Doctor/Donna Doctor Who scene:

(Thank you so much! That’s so very sweet! I’m glad you like! :D) SO I didn’t originally have a timeline when I started making the comics, but NOW I do, so it’s a bit of a mess lol! BASICALLY: ~Daiya survived the bike crash  ~Mondo & Taka go to Hope’s Peak  ~They become friends (I have a comic planned for this, and it’s NOT a sauna scene *wiggles eyebrows*) ~[The Yakuza Incident] this is when Mondo catches feelings, but chalks it up to the adrenaline of the situation ~[Mondo meets Takaaki] and [makes a great impression] ~Daiya is introduced to Taka, and gives him “The Shirt” unbeknownst to Mondo  ~Taka has his own Gay Panic™ (this is another comic comin’ in the pipeline!) but he doesn’t recognise it for what it is. ~[Takaaki finds The Shirt, and him and Daiya make their plan] ~[The Hershey’s Kiss Incident] Mondo has to ask himself some PRETTY SEARCHING questions after this, whilst Taka has to wrestle with the revelation that if Mondo asked for a kiss, Taka would not hesitate to do it. ~ and Finally, eventually, a Confession (this is another comic, but it’ll deffo be a while before this one is done)

Takemichi sees the Oowada brothers as a single unit - he is 'second’ to both of them. So, whilst Mondo is at Hope’s Peak, Takemichi defaults to keeping an eye on Daiya to give Mondo some piece of mind, since Daiya still a target for rival gangs. Takemichi’s title of ‘second’ is just a formality of the gang. Daiya doesn’t really go in for the hierarchy stuff, but it’s the gang that insists on it and Mondo unfortunately really internalised it. From the gang’s perspective, you have the suave leader, his sharp, loyal 2nd in command and his volatile brother he has to reign in, when in reality Daiya delegated a lot of his responsibilities to Mondo and Michi over time, and was more a figurehead than an actual leader by his retirement.

(I’ve got some more Leon in a future comic - have a peek, he’s got such a cheeky face) [this comic is now done!]

Mondo’s unsuccessful romantic attempts are the favourite gossip topic of a surprising amount of class 78 tho’ not within earshot of Mondo obviously - They’re secretly cheering him on but they also have a betting pool based on how quickly he’ll scare the girl away. Celeste has made a very tidy profit.

I agree, Mondo in specs is A+, but yes, ‘tis a persona reference.  I FULLY recommend Persona 4 if you get the chance! It’s a JRPG, but the ‘dungeons’ are people’s psyches, and when they’re inside they have to confront a ‘shadow’ which is basically some aspect of themselves they’ve repressed or heavily dislike. The stress of being in the dungeons causes people to get dizzy and confused, and the glasses stop that- it suggests Mondo has already confronted his own shadow, before Taka had to confront his. . .

That’s some excellent analysis right there! Taka 100% has some deep seated issues to do with his relationship with control. I think his new friendship with someone so far outside his understood norm of ‘acceptable’ would have rattled some of those insecurities loose.  There would be an inherent need for Taka to try to ‘improve’ Mondo’s behaviour - to try to make Mondo more “acceptable to society”, the way Taka was taught to be. But by doing so, he would be removing something that makes Mondo who he is. It would come down to an internal fight of being a hypocrite for overlooking Mondo’s anti-social behaviour, or trying to control Mondo and making him into something he’s not. Taka would hate himself for not being able to accept Mondo wholesale, the way he wishes people would accept himself, and the way he knows friends SHOULD do - basically a microcosm of the wider span of his anxiety with his chosen path and future.

(ahh! <3 thanks very much!) Here’s a bit of a behind the scenes! I do all my sketches in colour ‘cos I find it easier on my eyes. I have trouble telling the difference between colours of a close tone, so it’s easier to see when distinguishing between the sketch and the black lines when I’m doing lineart. Red just happens to be my go to since it’s quickest to get to on the colour slider and I’m lazy. The sketches you see are pretty much 1 to 1 what I use for lineart, minus the half tones. If I have multiple sketch layers, I’ll use multiple colours so I can see easier, but usually I do all my sketches directly on my guideline layer because I’m a madman. Here’s a coupla examples:

here’s a rare one where I didn’t draw directly onto my messy af guidelines- but I always start with red, then blue, then green and very occasionally purple if I need a fourth.

I keep the mini-comic sketches in red since I think it looks better. Black is harsh and can be unforgiving and I think it makes it easier to see how rough my sketches are. In colour it’s a little softer - and to me - more pleasing to the eye! (and even when I do use black- it’s usually at partial opacity to soften it out)

the assumptions people seem to make about him in regards to shipping;;

a lot of people are weirdly noisy about how Against shipping Rev with anyone they are?? and other than people who simply don’t like his character to begin with(which is fair and obviously just a matter of personal preference), this seems to come down to three things: 1. they assume sexual/romantic interest is just impossible for him, even though he’s still got a human consciousness rattling around in there. I’m flexible on this tho since it’s really just personal interpretation and Rev is...... Super Messed Up. 2. they can’t imagine robofucking, when it really isn’t much of a stretch to imagine that in a universe with robots there are people who will be Into That & ways to make it work 3. the biggest peeve for me is when it just smells like someone is CONVINCED a ship with him would be abusive. more on that below

I poke fun at Rev a lot but especially in the actual practice of writing him, I do my best not to woobify him. I understand that narratively he is meant to be a villain, he is meant to be irredeemably evil, he has A Lot of Problems and toxic traits, and yes some of those toxic traits are bound to bleed into a ship to some degree or another. shipping with him is never going to be easy and there will definitely be rough spots and imperfections just like in a real relationship.

but the fun of fiction and characters with depth is giving them room to grow. by default, Rev is an absolute piece of shit who goes out of his way to physically and emotionally hurt everyone around him - but it’s fun to imagine what could change about his treatment of another person if he actually came to care about them.

if someone’s not interested in exploring that idea, that’s fine! but it bugs me how people will dismiss or outright shit on the people who are interested, just because of Revenant being a Problematic Fave™

Besides Discourse™, not really. I’ve definitely decided not to follow people in the first place over petty stuff like talking a lot about a headcanon or ship I didn’t like or not liking one I do.

7. Is there anything you used to like, but now can’t stand?

Honestly, the Deuteronomy Bros headcanon. It’s whatever, I just hate how universal it is. I like to headcanon Tugger and Munk as brothers, but I prefer past Munkcavity to Macavity being an estranged brother. Most fanon in the Cats fandom bugs me cuz the show’s so up for interpretation and I don’t want there to be One True Interpretation. I could go on about my “Jerrie and Teazer aren’t related OR dating” thing too.

11. Is there an unpopular character you like that the fandom doesn’t? Why?

Not in any current fandom I don’t think, but part of the reason my love for Spring Awakening faded was definitely the constant fandom hate of Melchior. Yeah he’s very much at fault for what happened in the hayloft (although I would argue that putting ALL the blame on him and none on society misses the point), but I always related to him a lot, and it sucked to see pretty much all my SA mutuals start dunking on him nonstop and my fics featuring him get less and less attention. Sometimes your comfort character is an asshole. Sigh.
