Part 2 of the Mamma Mia series

By the time evening rolls around, you’re exhausted. You somehow managed to make it through the rest of the day without losing your job or murdering George since he was smart enough to stay away from you. A few of the screenshots had made their way to you, and if it wasn’t you they were gossiping about, it would’ve been funny. Dressed in a pair of sweat shorts and a baggy T-shirt, you fall back on the bed, staring at the ceiling until a knock on the door pulls you from your thoughts. Sighing, you get up to open it.

“You’re the first one, come on in,” you say, stepping aside to let Lewis in. 

“Got you some sweet treats,” he replies, handing you a box that smells divine. It has your stomach growling with the realisation you skipped dinner. 

“Thanks,” you offer, feeling touched he went out of his way to get this for you. You place the box on the desk, taking the lid off to peruse the selection of baked goods. 

“So Kevin knows, huh?” Lewis asks as he takes a seat on one of the chairs. 

“Sort of?” you say through a mouthful of muffin. Before you can answer any more of his questions another knock sounds. Opening it, you’re greeted by a grinning Mark Webber.

“Oh sweetheart if you wanted a mouthful, all you had to do was ask,” he says instead of a hello. You roll your eyes as you swallow.

“You’re such a filthy man, get your mind out of the gutter.” 

“Baby, you love me filthy.” You groan at his comeback and wave him through. You can hear him exchange pleasantries with Lewis behind you while you wait in the door opening when you spot Kevin making it out of the lift. 

“Promise me no punching. I will explain everything, but please…” you warn him when he’s in front of you. You can see the muscle in his jaw tick when he hears two male voices coming from inside the room but he nods before walking inside. You close the door behind him and lean against it. 

“And to think I have to have this conversation sober..” you mumble. Taking a deep breath, you walk back into your hotel room where you find Kevin on the other chair next to Lewis and Mark on the desk chair. 

“Okay,” you sigh as you sit down cross legged on the bed, “Before I explain why all three of you are here, I need you all to refrain from making comments. Whatever derogatory term you’re thinking, know that my self-worth has already called me all of them.” You look up at all of them, seeing very mixed reactions. Kevin looks apprehensive but nods, Lewis gives you a soft smile while Mark just smirks. 

“So,” you start, picking at a loose thread on your shorts, “After Spa a couple of things happened. Kevin and I had an argument about my loyalties with regards to our… situationship.. So instead of celebrating my team getting a podium, I was drowning my sorrows in the hotel bar where Lewis found me, which led to flirting, and kissing and… And to me sleeping with him. Oh Jesus.. I was still so angry at Kevin for some of the things he said and so when I bumped into Mark in the hotel lobby the next day, I just.. I guess I fell back into old habits? Sadly for me, Mark is my worst habit and I swore I had given you up when you walked out on me in 2013 but my pussy is a traitor, what can I say?” You take another deep breath and find the courage to look up. “And then later that same day Kevin and I talked things through, put all the cards on the table. We decided to give us another go and celebrated accordingly, even though we then decided to call it quits at the end of the summer break. So yeah, one of you is the father and I have no idea who, but none of that matters anyway because I am not keeping it.” They’re all quiet for a moment as they take in this information. The three men share a look that you can’t place.

“Why don’t you want to keep the baby?” Kevin asks you, and you see the hurt in his eyes. One of the reasons you decided to call it quits was your vastly different timelines for starting a family; Kevin wanted nothing more than to be a father but you didn’t want to put your career on hold just yet despite knowing that at 33 time was starting to run out. 

“Being a single mum is hard enough, but being a single mum in this industry? With all the travelling? And then the financial responsibility.. I can’t in good conscience bring a child into this world knowing I can’t give them what they deserve.” 

“What if you didn’t have to do it alone?” Lewis asks, leaning forward. You scoff at that. 

“I’m being serious, My. What if?” 

“I don’t know. Maybe? But who’d date a woman who has turned her life into the plot of a Mamma Mia prequel?” 

“I would,” Lewis, Kevin, and Mark manage to say as one. 

“What?” You’re pretty sure the exhaustion is playing tricks on you and you mistook their answers.

“Sweetheart, we are all smitten with you. Who wouldn’t be? You’re smart, funny. Sexy,” Mark adds with a wiggle of his eyebrows that has you rolling your eyes.

“So, what? We’re gonna play house together?” You are genuinely so confused. How is this ever going to work out? Surely you can’t date three men at once, that’s ridiculous.

“I wouldn’t call it ‘play house’,” Lewis says, looking at Kevin and Mark, “but yeah. Let us prove to you that we can make this work.” 

“You’re all insane. When this gets out -because it is when, not if- the media is gonna have a field day. I can only imagine the headlines, “Paddock whore slept her way to the top”. Yeah, no. No way,” you scramble, panic rising in your throat. 

“Fuck what the media says. Nine out of ten times it’s bullshit anyway,” Mark says. 

“Leave all of that out of the equation. Would three men taking you on dates really be the worst thing?” Kevin asks you. You groan and bury your face in your hands. You know the answer to this, you know they know you know the answer to this. 

“I guess not..” you mutter.

“So let us woo you. Give us two months and if by the end of it you genuinely don’t feel a spark, no hard feelings,” Mark offers, leaning forward.

“Yeah, you can still decide then whether you want to keep the baby,” Kevin adds. You mull this over as you fidget with the hem of your T-shirt. Two months would give you until the end of the season to decide, but it would also mean having to continue with this pregnancy that you’re still unsure of is a good idea. 

“One month. And I will cancel the appointment.” 

“Deal,” they once again say in unison. The only thing going through your head is oh God, what have I done?

Chapter four

Your body suddenly can't move.

What the hell did you do last night?

Bia is still sleeping in bed with your new friends besides her, and you are the only one awake. You were trying to remember what happened after the game, but nothing was coming out of your mind.

You weren't that stupid to send him a n*de.. or were you?

But if that happened, someone would have stopped you. But on the other side, all of you were drunk and immature.

And if you really sent him a n*de of yourself , then it will be all over Internet. Just like the other photos of you two together.

You screwed up bad..

Finding the courage to open up his messages alone, not wanting to wake anyone up this early in the morning, you are even more shocked when you see his text.

Before you click on the photo he sent you, you read what he wrote you.

I am happy that you looked at the match, and I'm also sorry for the gossip that it's going around right now. I hope I didn't cause damage to your relationship.

Relationship? What relationship?

You were the one who thought that you made Gavi and his girlfriend break up. But he was thinking something completely untrue. You don't have a boyfriend and you never did.

Right now, you were trying to think who could be that boy he saw you with. But as you were trying to remember who he was, you suddenly realised that he also sent you a photo.

You opened your phone again, tapping to his account.

When you counted to three, you clicked on his photo, and your heart melted at his sight.

It was a selfie of him and Lewandowski, smiling at you. He also wrote on it that brought us good luck .

That? What that?

Now you begin to think again what picture could you have sent him to.

And if somehow it was a n*ude.. did he really show it to everyone else around him?

But you weren't the type of person to do that. Even when drunk. It just wasn't your personality.

So.. your photo brought him luck? You smiled a bit.

Oh, and then you realised that Gavi actually texted you. Well, you texted him first, but he replied.

And he was also having you at his following list. That's.. Nice. You smile once again.

"Bia, wake up!"

"Hm?"

"Gavi texted me!"

When everyone heard that, they all got up immediately.

"He did what?" asked Lucas.

"He texted me, look."

"Screenshot his photo," Bia said, and before you could stop her, Lucas already did a screenshot on your phone.

"What! No, now he's going to see it!!!!"

"And? It's better than not having the photo? I bet he made it by himself just for you."

You think about it. Maybe..

"Uhhh" you groaned, sitting on your bed. "Do I have to reply to him?"

"What's even with that question? Of course you have to!?"

"But what do I say?"

"Just, I don't know. Congrats on your win?" Liam says.

"But then he'll let her on seen." Laura interrupts. "It has to be something like, congrats to your win, you did amazing. How are you feeling after the game?"

"Of course he feels happy, they won?"

"Bia, I mean if he is tired or in good shape. Maybe he got injured, which I don't think so. He'll get the question, right, Lucas?"

He looks at her while thinking what to answer.

"Boys often misinterpret questions like that."

You nodded. "Then what do I say?"

"In my opinion, you should really add the congratulations part. It's important." Lucas says. "Boys like to feel important and appreciated.

"Ok, so first I'm saying congrats. After?"

Silence. Everyone is thinking.

"Should I go with something like I hope your training goes good today?"

"Ah, I don't know-"

"I got it!!!" Laura says. "Just reply to his photo with a photo and you can add there the text you want to say. He'll sure be curious on your photo."

"Yesss! That's it! But I have to be pretty. Everyone, help me!!"

They all helped you with a pretty outfit, your hair and makeup, and after about 1 hour, you were ready to take the picture.

Smiling widely, you sent a photo of you saying congratulations on your win, guys. you did amazing. visca barça.

Perfect. Now you wait.

Today, waiting for his reply, you walked around Barcelona, chatting and laughing. You stopped near your friends' restaurant and started singing and dancing traditional Spanish songs until the L family was ready to close.

All the time you were looking at your phone, hoping for a text from Gavi who seemed like wouldn't come.

When you said your goodbyes, you and Bia went to drink something near your hotel. When you were talking about your future college, your phone buzzed, and you freezed.

"So??"

You look at her with a big smile.

"Gavi."

"I wanna see, I wanna see!"

Bia was whining just like a little kid, but you were also so excited to read his text.

Well, he sent you another photo.

He seemed like he was in a bedroom, assuming it was his, smiling into the camera and having his thumb up. He was adorable.

If you want more photos of me, tell me. You don't have to screenshot. Also, you didn't tell me about your boyfriend. Is he mad?

"He is definitely flirting with you!"

"I don't know.."

"Well he totally is. Reply to him."

You took a quick photo of you, with your orange juice on your hands, smiling sweetly.

I'm sorry about that. A friend of mine screenshoted it accidentally. And about my relationship, I don't know where that came from. I'm single.

After 5 minutes, he replied.

"Wow, y/n. He is quick. I told you he is into you!"

Now, it was a photo with half of his face saying my bad, sorry. so are you still asking for pictures?

You did a similar picture as he did last time, and wrote first of all, I didn't ask for any pictures, second of all wouldn't your girlfriend be upset that you are talking with me?

"Are you sure you want to send that?" Bia asked you.

"Well even if he is Pablo Gavi, if he has a girl at home, he has to right not talk to other girls."

After about 20 minutes, he replied.

The photo was again with half of his face saying that are u jealous, y/n?

You blushed hard.

"Ooooo, he is flirting with youu."

"Shut up, he is typing.:

"Let's get home. We can't stay here for another hour. We also have to look for colleges."

You nodded and while you were walking back to your hotel, you were looking intensely at your phone.

Right when he was about to send his text, your mom was calling you.

You groaned hard while Bia was laughing.

"Yes?"

"Hi, sweetheart. How are you?"

"Mama, I'm kinda busy. I'll call you later, ok?"

"Did something happen? Are you ok?"

"Yes, don't worry. We are heading to our hotel. I'll call you there, ok? Bye."

"Bye, don't forget to!"

After ending the call, you go to see what Gavi said.

You blushed even harder.

"Whatt???? I wanna see too."

Yes, I am a footballer, but I don't cheat. I don't have a girlfriend and I didn't have one recently either. I think you know a lot about me, but I just know your name. Wanna meet me tomorrow at 13 after my training to show you the museum from Camp Nou? I promise I won't steal you. Bring a friend if you want. I'll bring Fermin too.

"Say yes, say yes, say yes!"

"I don't know, Bia. I feel like it's happening too fast."

"It's the right time, trust me. When fo you want him to ask you out. A day before we return home? Say yes!"

You slowly nodded, accepting his offer." You'll come with me."

"You didn't have to ask." she says super excited.

I'm throwing them under a cut because it's long as heck and there are spoilers for the following: (I also hope that gif blocks the spoilery images from showing up in previews or anything.)

I'll admit, I have always lived and breathed Westerns. Laura Ingalls Wilder was part of my bread and butter growing up, I now live in a cattle-dense part of the country that was directly affected by that part of US history, I loved the hell out of watching Red Dead Redemption 1 and 2, the "wild west" has called to me so viscerally. I think part of it is that my families settled here in the Midwest. Now, specifically related to Horizon Mirages - the information on shepherds and such has been really interesting to get into. They (and by proxy our Shepherdess) live in structured wagons to keep up with the sheep on their rotations across the plains. The similarities and differences between cattle and sheep has been really interesting to get into.

I thought about who would have interesting stories to tell. I don't actually know if they're all love interests yet, or if they become platonic. I also looked for foils to the 141, but that was kind of last-minute when I tacked on their relationships to the 141. I wanted a way to bring together some of my special interests - beekeeping, distilling, sewing, fiber arts) into the story in a way that made sense. Because if I'm going to write things, I might as well write about things I have some knowledge of, lol. The Shepherdess was the first one out of the gate, nearly fully developed at idea creation. The other three have gone through a number of changes and morphs to what you see today (and they very well may change between now and publication. The General Store Owner started as a homesteader, for example. The Seamstress was just a widower, husband lost to a rogue shoot-out, but had no career (or maybe she was the school teacher? I don't remember now).

Okay, the quality is 💩, but hopefully it's legible and not too spoilery. I learned how to redact PDF's today! Neat! (I was hoping to be able to blur it out, but alas, this was the fastest solution I could find on company time. 😅) Screenshot to PDF back to screenshot kinda tanked the quality lol.

Re: the timeline. I fudged the years a little bit. I think I kept canon years where they were, but I made Soap a little older. I just...I was struggling to write him as a 20-something, so I made him 6 months older than me. Because artistic license. Also worth noting: those are not all siblings of his. Some are cousins.

I really hope there's not too many spoilers here, and that you're more excited than disappointed when the truth's revealed. This is just one aspect of the story anyway.

Which of my projects is the spookiest? Yeesh, I suppose it depends on how you define spooky. Feylands has a few spooky vibes in it, so does The Contract. 7 Sins Bookstore does too, now that I think about it. But none are intentionally spooky in the Halloween sense. Just spooky in the eerie/something's not quite human here way.

Precure All Stars F

Film cure groupings breakdown based off the trailer + thoughts:

1: Team Sky. Sora, Yui, Manatsu and Puka. The three most recent lead cures, and while I haven't seen Tropical Rouge or Delicious Party yet, from what I can tell they're all pretty matched personality-wise in terms of being high-energy characters. They also have the new mascot with them. They appear to meet in some sort of rocky location where Summer and Precious echo the classic Futari Wa building jump on the rocks. Nice callback. I have no idea where they got the minecart from, but the level of chaos here tracks 100% for this group of cures.

2: Team Prism: Nodoka, Mashiro, Amane and Laura. A softer set of cures, and of course, we get the VA match up of Mashiro and Rabirin in the same scenes! They can't not make some sort of reference to that. Following on from Tropical Rouge, they appear to meet on some sort of beach location. Nodoka and Mashiro's running training comes in handy later on when they're all running from something. The new mascot appears with this team in the trailer too. It'll be interesting to see where that comes into play.

3: Team Wing: Haruka, Tsubasa, Haa-chan, Saaya, and Elle-chan. I just Had to get this screenshot for them wiv little birdy boi on top. They all look so happy. And they had ballons before. Balloons! Flying with balloons!!! So these four all have a flight theme (with a hint of flowers) going on, and appear to be in quite a hilly location, requiring them to fly from a to b. Part of the trailer shows a cloudy valley with a castle in the distance which they seem to be trying to get to. With the magic of Haa-chan at their side, they are obviously travelling in style, though, I don't think that lasts. (see point 6)

4: Team Butterfly: Ageha, Lala, Asumi and Yukari. The adult/more mature cures (allegedly). I love this grouping already because they make Ageha look a LOT less in control of things, which is entertaining. Also they are riding a creature. Bets on Yukari taming it with her scritches and Asumi talking to it to ask it to help.

5: Why have I got a number 5? Well,

For this. The rest of the cure team leads. I feel like there will be some point where we will get some sort of cameo from the rest of the cures (or their leads at least), likely at the climax of the film, as it would be unlikely for them to completely omit the other teams on an anniversary year. Very good likelihood of Cure Black and Cure White appearing in speaking roles even if they're not billed. It is an Anniversary year after all.

6: One more match up I want to talk about:

Elle-chan and the new mascot. Notably no cures around, so I wonder if Elle-chan gets seprated from Team Wing at some point. :( But it'll be interesting to see how that goes down too, as we still don't know a huge amount about Elle-chan anyway.

Breakfast time at Sandra and Beppe's. Beppe wants to take her up to Leicester to see his family - the source of the original breakup (apparently they didn't like her for not being Italian) - but Sandra is cagey and heads out to work.

Guess who's on her doorstep, as usual?

He claims it's the only way he can get in touch with her and makes the usual ultimatum! He's leaving Thursday - she says she'll call him later...

The background music continues to deal me psychic damage. Tom Jones' Sex Bomb playing in the pub while Peggy acts heartbroken over Frank's spinning bow tie 🙃

Laura joking about kidnapping Ian's kids in (apparently) very poor taste but it's emphasising the subliminal messaging acting on Sandra, innit? She's worried that if she runs off with Joe though it'll be held against her in terms of custody. This is why ultimatums aren't helpful, young Mr Robbins!

Also once more, pleasantly surprised by the way Frank and Pat's affair gets into the effects of that on the friendship between Peggy and Pat - she's already lonely because of Frank, and now her best friend isn't in a position to support her because she's also hiding things.

Anyway, Beppe's being a dear about this trip to Leicester and talking about taking Joe horse riding. Do they have horse riding in Bristol, hm?

I should probably warn anyone tempted to watch these that Barry is on a strictly enforced diet and his wife is an asshole about making him stick to it. Could be triggering for anyone with issues around food.

Ian unhelpfully gives Sandra Thursday and Friday off for a trip to Leicester when Beppe asks him for her.

LMAOOO Tivik (the guy with the bust arm who Cassian shoots in Rogue One, played by Daniel Mays) has chained himself to the Slaters' gate because he loves Kat, and swallowed the key to his padlock. Among the audience he's drawn, Sandra asks what his problem is, and Beppe says "Some guys don't know what it's over." Oh ho ho ho...

Sandra's still trying to get out of going to Leicester on Thursday - she offers to bring Joe on the train on Friday pm and Beppe agrees. She asks Ian not to mention that she still wants Thursday off...

Today we have shouty Jack >:(

He goes on and on in the usual bloody way until he makes Sandra cry. You can see why the Met Police hired him 🙄

Then after all the shouting he goes all quiet and soft of course, and when Sandra says he can come to the house on Thursday because Beppe will be away he has the cheek to ask gently "Are you sure this is what you want?"

Sandra tells Beppe she's leaving. She says she can't keep pretending that she loves him (which is a contradiction of what she told Jack in the first episode)

Uh oh, Beppe heads outside "You're not taking my son!"

Jack pops out of the car 😬😬😬

Bless him, Jack gets a punch in but it's a 'restrain the arrestee' kind of punch not the brawling Beppe's good at. Beppe isn't taking this well at all. "I thought you were my friend?!"

Robbie's not confident he can break up this uh. Street fight on his own.

Mark gets Beppe to break it up because Sandra and Joe are watching.

Beppe grabs Joe and takes him inside.

Joe doesn't seem all that happy, and Beppe won't pick up the phone to Sandra (with grumpy Jack in the background). He is feeling guilty af though. And Laura's helping. Donkey Kong therapy :')

Laura's too good for this world - truly, she suggests Beppe talk things through! As if anyone has ever done that on EastEnders dkskjssjsjfff omg he does try it! Genuinely, Beppe is the better person at the point.

Oh goooodddd the locals are all on open-season bitch-fest about Sandra and Jack now D:

Jack thinks Sandra's letting Beppe call all the shots. He's so awful :')

"I don't remember inviting you."

"You didn't."

My god if the big dick swinging ego of these two idiots was spread evenly through the population we'd have no impostor syndrome left in the world.

Beppe finally gets the truth about how Sandra and Jack lived together for years.

Ugh god I have such mixed emotions about Jack looking so protective while Sandra recounts her miscarriage woes again

Jack says a month or so later she up and left :(

Beppe: "She's good at that." But he does seem to understand...

Beppe: "It's all been about Joe, ain't it?"

Sandra: "No..."

Jack: "Uh, yeah!"

Beppe, who raised Joe alone after Sandra left him, is understandably dubious about Joe having a better family life with them.

Jack is wearing the ultimate 'no fucks given, no regrets' expression

"I'm so glad you can't have any more kids coz you don't deserve the one you've got!" Stay classy Beppe.

Sandra's had enough and Jack invokes the courts.

"And when we come back, we're taking Joe with us!"

End of Part 3. Wow, Jack is really not boyfriend material! :’) But then again, the narrative of EastEnders doesn’t really take a moral standpoint and everyone’s behaved pretty stupidly badly. Read on to find out how things can be resolved in a(n ir)rational world!

Caleb & Bobby: Not so Innocent

I made these screenshots because I think it's interesting that Caleb and Bobby seem to be the ones responsible for the demise of the hikers and the journalist.

I know a lot of people tend to have this sympathy for Caleb, but honestly? He seems like the one out of the three werewolf Hacketts who are the most comfortable with biting/killing people in werewolf form.

If you go for the Blood Pact achievement, Caleb is responsible for the majority of bites (Nick, Dylan, Kaitlyn, Jacob) and also eats Max if he swims to shore.

EDIT: Kaylee bites only Abi then gets iced by Laura.

We know it's not Chris, because he's chained up in Hackett House, which - as always - begs the question of why Caleb and Kaylee are allowed to roam free and - again - I'm going to put the weight of this on Caleb, because the way Kaylee's character is described would imply to me that she doesn't want to be out and about.

However, she IS responsible for Caleb's being the first one bit, so I could see her caving to any peer pressure from him out of guilt.

Then there's Bobby - he's mostly portrayed as a gentle giant who's turned violent to protect his family, but I have a hard time believing he doesn't know right from wrong.

Considering his bulk of work is done at the scrapyard and Caleb also works at the scrapyard, one has to wonder what the two got up to in regards to both of them being responsible for the hikers and the journalist.

Again, this is all speculation on my part, but I yet again find these facts and ideas interesting and like sharing them.

Silas? Silas!

A theory about / analysis of Silas’ movements because the idea that he’s been sitting in one place for six years peeves me greatly. 

So, first things first, he hasn’t been. Travis calls him a nomad and mentions sightings of him at one point. He also has a map in his office that looks like this:

I don’t know much about reading maps, so I can’t tell how vast of a territory that is, but it should cover the entirety of the Hackett Woods, at least, seeing as that’s where the hunt takes place. That’s a lot of land according to the game (the ByB end credits podcast, to be specific). 

It’s clear that Silas doesn’t just hang out around one summer camp. He’s moving around the territory but probably has established routes - “nomad” kind of implies that. 

And based on that, I would guess that the Hacketts also haven’t been hunting him in their back yard for six years. They’ve probably been following those sightings / their general idea of Silas’ paths, although, yeah, they haven’t been leaving their forest. Kaylee says so in her letter to Constance:

“...I wanna know what’s outside the forest...”      

When the events of the game take place, Silas likely happens to be back in the area closest to the camp. 

Another thing that, in my opinion, implies that Silas doesn’t stay in one place is Eliza’s dialogue from her death scene:

She repeats that she’ll wait for him several times. She is the one pinned to the land close to the camp (literally, if you fail her QTE), not Silas. Also please take a close look at the screenshot above. With this image in mind, let’s move to my second theory [a gaaame theory!] related to Silas. 

Silas’ lair =/= the place where the fire took place. How so?

(Besides the obvious, as in, Travis having no idea there’s a place in the woods filled with stuff from Harum Scarum. Like, duh, of course it’s not the same spot where a huge fire started by his family members took place. Come on.)

In Eliza’s scene, we can see that the traveling show is set up in an open area. The lair, when it’s found by Laura in the prologue, is described as engulfed by the forest - but that’s too much forest to have grown around it in merely six years.

The screenshot is a bit dark but there’s a huge tree to the right of the lair and a log behind it. The cage isn’t near such trees in the flashback. Besides, there aren’t any other burnt structures around the lair, just the forest. 

So what is this place? Well, Silas probably made it for himself after the fire. He’s only a werewolf for one night a month. Most of the time, he’s just a man. He’d need shelter for when he’s around and in his human form. Sure, he’s “feral” but he’d still be capable of dragging stuff around and arranging it as he sees fit. 

It’s probably not very far from the original place (as indicated by a partially burnt Harum Scarum poster Laura sees pinned to a tree) but it’s deep enouth in the thicket to have remained hidden until Laura happens upon it.

Another detail to speak for this theory, imo, is the trunk Laura finds.

How and why would it get there on its own? It’s found in a small ravine - that’s nowhere near where its original owner, a perforemer, would’ve placed it.

Which leads to my final thoughts about Silas - and they’re sad. He took what remained of Harum Scarum into the woods with him. He placed those things around his lair - because that was his idea of a safe place. A cage surrounded by a traveling show’s inventory. That’s... so tragic, to be honest. Safest in the cage, not knowing any other life. It does paint a heartbreaking picture. I can see why Laura would hesitate to make the final shot at the sight of it.

And as for the Hacketts, three men (one old, another not all there mentally) have been hunting one in a vast, old forest for six years. They failed. Were they bad hunters or just unlucky? Was there magic involved? Or were they sabotaging their hunt on purpose? The world might never know. 

But anyways, here are my thoughts on these parts of the story - hopefully they’re logical enough or at least entertaining. Thanks for reading. :)

AINI character profiles

I was reading some interviews with Okada, and it turns out he introduced three characters in each interview. I copy-pasted them into this post along with their full-body renders because I feel like a lot of people haven’t seen this stuff. I’m not re-sizing the images to make them all fit nicely (sorry) so click on them to see the full thing.

Tokiko – VA: Laura Post – Japanese VA: Yoko Soumi – President of Naixatloz Japan Branch The president of Naix Japan. A believer in Simulation Theory, she sincerely believes that the world she lives in is fake and was created by someone. According to her, the purpose of Naix is to find a “seam” that should exist somewhere in this world, to bring down the false world, and to lead people to liberation.

Chikara – VA: Frank Todaro – Japanese VA: Mitsuru Ogata – Director of Horadori Institute of Genetics A brilliant scientist who established the Horadori Institute of Genetics at a young age. The institute mainly researches DNA treatment and gene therapy. As the investigation of the Half Body serial killings progresses, the Institute’s involvement with the mysterious “Bats490” video, suspected to be related to the case, emerges. As the director of the institute Horadori also becomes a target of ABIS’s investigation.

Masked Woman – A mysterious person. Appears to be female based on body shape.

Lien -VA: Y. Chang -Japanese VA: Hidenori Takahashi -Unemployed – A young man who frequents Matsushita Diner, Lien was there when Ryuki went to the diner as part of his investigation.He had recently lost his job, and was alone at the diner, mourning his loss, but found love at first sight with Kizuna and proposed to her on the spot.

Fans will remember internet idol Iris, also known as A-set or Tesa, as the bright and peppy teenage girl who was internet and social media savvy. Her interest in the occult and urban legends is still strong. Now, Iris is a senior at Sekiba High, and she is also part of the dance studio. She witnesses the sudden appearance of half of a dead body alongside Mizuki.

A brand new character for the sequel, Kizuna is part of Iris' dance club and a good friend to her and Mizuki. She is the daughter of an extremely rich family.

Another new character, and a professional comedian. His TV appearances haven't been very successful, but he has made a living as a quiz show host. He was the host of a webcast where the right half of a dead body suddenly appeared.

6th Grader. Komeji’s son. His parents are divorced. He lives with his poor comedian dad, but despises him. In the same grade as Mizuki, but doesn't seem to have much contact with her.

Owner of Brahman World Cuisine. He runs a restaurant called Brahman in Golden Yokocho. Always wears a mask for some reason. His cooking is excellent. The restaurant is frequented by members of ABIS.

Made Café Maid. A Sekiba High Senior and "Mermaid" at Sunfish Pocket. She has a sharp tongue, but is never really malicious. She's in the school dance club with Iris and Kizuna. A regular at Brahman and close with Gen.

(Me taking over) I find it interesting that most if not all of these characters are as they appear in the past/Ryuki’s story based on gameplay screenshots. The only person I remember seeing future!Mizuki with off the top of my head is The Masked Woman.

I remember the character introduction yt video describing Lien as a locksmith, so maybe he’s unemployed in the past and then gets a job in Mizuki’s time?

Odd that Iris is re-introduced to us while none of the other old characters are. Hrm

I learned some new things from this, like Tokiko and Naix’s beliefs and goals, that Komeji and Shoma are father and son, and that Kizuna comes from money. I like how much context these descriptions add.

Edit: about Naix, the purpose of the Hidden Bats experiment is probably to test bugs in the “simulation”. One of the secret messages in the ARG talks about how superhuman abilities are considered glitches in The Simulation, so they could be testing the subjects’ SHIFT abilities to locate and break that seam Tokiko wants to find.

Edit 2: looking back on the box art, I think those designs at the bottom might be the Mizuki-time ones. Amame and Kizuna, who are teens in Ryuki-time, look different, like Kizuna is missing her hat for example and Amame seems to have her hair down instead of pigtails. I remember people mistaking Shoma, who’s Mizuki’s age, for Ota. But the adults don’t look too different. Either Tokiko’s at a weird angle or she gets a haircut.

Interesting that that Masked Woman isn’t on the box art as her own thing. Implying that she’s one of the people already there, perhaps?

You were in the middle of a house showing when your phone started buzzing incessantly. Not wanting to seem unprofessional, you ignored it as you talked with your clients about the features of the house before sending them to explore on their own for a few minutes. 

Checking your phone you saw that you had missed three calls from Laura. There was no reason for her to be calling you repeatedly unless something was wrong and you quickly called her back, your heart pounding. 

“Hey mom I’m in the middle of a showing, what’s up?” 

“Have you heard from Cale today?” She asked.

“Not since first thing this morning…” You replied, anxiety growing. “Mom what’s going on?” 

“Cale’s not answering his phone. We don’t know where he’s at.” You could hear Gary in the background as the two of them rambled back and forth. “Y/N...there are some pretty nasty rumors online about him…” 

Your heart plummeted to the ground and your stomach twisted violently. 

“Send me screenshots?” You pleaded. After just a minute or two, images flooded your phone that made you want to physically vomit.

Hearing the footsteps of your clients, you pocketed your phone attempting to mask all of the emotions rushing through your mind. After chatting with them about the house, you moved to leave and though you had planned to take them to see two more, your heart just wasn’t in it. Explaining that a family emergency had just popped up, you promised them you would reschedule as soon as possible before sliding into your car. 

Your attempt to get ahold of Cale went straight to voicemail and you groaned just wishing he would pick up. Opening first instagram and then twitter you realized just what had started it all. The avs had posted a summer update about Cale with a few pictures from Iceland that he must have sent their pr department. The top reply on twitter linked an instagram post from Sara’s page where she was obviously pregnant and wearing a waitressing uniform. Her vague status read ‘working for that dough since my baby daddy is useless’ You’d barely looked at all and you were already furious and devastated, you couldn’t even imagine how Cale was feeling. 

Driving home, you called your favorite coworker pleading with her to take what appointments of yours today she could before calling the rest to reschedule. With your work commitments being taken care of, your plan was to go home and change before trying to find Cale. The moment you pulled in your driveway, however, you felt your heart settle because that was definitely Cale’s car. Dialing Laura’s number again you shut your car door quietly, not sure what state you’d find Cale in on the other side of your front door. 

“Hey mom...his car is here. I don’t know what I’m about to find but you know I’ll do everything I can…” Laura insisted that you could call right back if there was anything you needed and after hanging up with her, you slipped your key into the lock, pushing your way inside. 

The house was quiet and after toeing off your shoes, you padded down the hall in search of your boyfriend. The sight that met you as you reached your bedroom door broke your heart. Cale was curled up on your bed, his shoulders shaking with sobs. 

Crawling in beside him, not caring if your dress got rumpled, you pulled his head to your chest, cradling his large frame as best you could. 

“I’m here...I got you.” You whispered, one hand scratching gently over his scalp while the other ran up and down his back. Though Cale buried his head against you, he didn’t react otherwise and you felt his tears gathering against your skin. “What can I do Cale?” You whispered eventually, hating the helpless feeling this situation had left you with. 

The silence of Cale’s response made you swallow hard. You wanted to scream from the rooftops about how people were making false assumptions, how Cale was the victim in this not his ex, how even if they were right it was none of their fucking business in the first place. But you knew it would only make things worse. The only real option was to let things die down on their own. You knew the truth, Cale’s family knew the truth, your family knew the truth, Cale’s teammates knew the truth. What anyone else thought really didn’t matter but that didn’t make it hurt any less. 

When Cale finally cried himself to sleep in your arms, you continued to hold him for a few minutes before you finally pulled yourself from bed. Changing clothes, you grabbed your phone and stepped out to the kitchen for a glass of water, dialing Laura again as you leaned against the kitchen counter. 

“How is he?” She asked immediately. 

“He’s asleep now. Finally cried himself out.” You mumbled. “He hasn’t said a word mom. It’s obvious he’s devastated, but I don’t know what to do. How do I fix this?” 

“You can’t.” She admitted sadly. “Just be there for him. That’s all you can do. It may not feel like much but I’m sure he appreciates it. I appreciate it. I’m glad he’s not alone. That if he didn’t feel comfortable coming home that he felt comfortable enough to go to your home. He’s safe and you can get through this together, we can all get through this together.” 

“Why do people have to be so mean?” You vented, just frustrated with all of it. 

“I can’t answer that. But don’t let this rock your relationship, that would only be giving these people what they want.” She insisted. 

“I’m not going anywhere mom. Cale is stuck with me.” Your words made Laura laugh and you sighed softly. 

“I’m sure he’s so upset about that.” She teased. “My son is absolutely gone for you. I don’t know how I didn’t see it before.” 

“I don’t know mom…” You grinned shaking your head. “Makes me wonder what else he got away with that you don’t know about.” You joked. 

“Not funny Y/N.” She lightly chastised. Taking another sip of water you heard the buzz of a phone that wasn’t yours and you followed the sound, finding Cale’s phone with his keys at the front entry. 

“Hey mom...I’m gonna let you go. I don’t want to leave Cale alone too long even if he’s sleeping.” You said, tucking your phone against your ear as you flipped Cale’s over seeing strings of notifications flash across the screen. 

“Sounds good dear. Love you. Let us know if you need anything.” 

“Will do...love you too mom.” 

You didn’t want to invade Cale’s privacy too much but even a quick glance at his phone told you that his teammates were worried about him. Unlocking his phone with the code you’d memorized just a few days into vacation, you opened his group chat and started typing a message. 

Hey guys, it’s Y/N...I haven’t read more than the 1 or 2 messages that flashed across the notifications screen because I don’t want to overstep. Just thought you guys should know that Cale really isn’t in a mindset to look at his phone. He’s not ignoring you...I’m sure he’ll get back to you guys soon...he just needs some time to process. If you have any urgent concerns my cell number is (587) 122- 3456. 

Before you could talk yourself out of the message, questioning if even that was too intrusive, you pressed send, dropping Cale’s phone back with his car keys. It didn’t take more than a minute for your phone to ring and though you hesitated, answering revealed the voice of Gabe Landeskog. 

“Y/N? This is Gabe.” He greeted. 

“Hey Gabe.” You whispered, moving over toward the couch so that you were a little bit farther away from the open bedroom door. 

“How is he?” The question made you sigh, your head falling back against the couch. 

“Not so good.” You admitted. “He’s asleep right now...hopefully his dreams provide him some peace.” 

“And how are you?” He followed up, not bothering to comment on Cale’s status any further.

“Heartbroken. Angry. Helpless. Take your pick.” You groaned. “There’s nothing I can do but be here and it’s frustrating.” 

“Being there is probably more significant than you realize Y/N. Cale is a very private person and if he trusts you that’s not nothing.” As Gabe spoke you realized that even though you’d told your parents about your relationship, Cale must not have told anyone else yet. 

“I know it’s not. I just…I want to fix it. And I know I can’t. I know we just have to wait and let this die out. But in the meantime I have to watch this tear him apart. It’s hard.” Gabe hummed in acknowledgement, a slightly uncomfortable silence filling the air for a moment before he spoke again. 

“All the guys have his back...your back if you guys need anything. I’ll try and get them to back off a little so he’s not overwhelmed when he’s ready to talk. And I’m sure Cale will appreciate you reaching out to us on his behalf. I know the guys are relieved to know he’s being taken care of.”

“Thanks.” You breathed, still thrown by everything that had happened today. 

“Well I’ll let you go. And Y/N... I’ll have Mel add your number to the Better Halves chat...glad you guys figured it out.” Gabe was just a little too intuitive and you shook your head as you ended the call. 

Cale was still asleep when you crawled back into bed beside him, your hands rubbing soothingly along his skin again. With your brain focused on what you could possibly do to make things better, you missed Cale starting to stir, his blue eyes droopy as he peered over at you. 

“I’m sorry…” The sound of his voice made you jump and when you looked over at him, you saw the distraught expression remained on his face. “I shouldn’t have dragged you into this…” As he spoke he shifted to sit up, his legs swinging over the edge of the bed. Moving alongside him, you wrapped your arms around his shoulders, pulling his body back against yours. 

“You have nothing to be sorry for Cale. You did nothing wrong. This is not on you. This is on the idiots who think they know what they’re talking about when they don’t even have the most basic of their facts straight.” Cale flinched just slightly, but you felt it, your heart picking up speed. 

“I still caused you pain. I’m not supposed to do that.” Something told you that the next words to come out of your mouth were possibly the most important words spoken in your relationship...more important than ‘I love you’ had been. 

“Cale Douglas Makar…” You declared, refusing to let him get up from the bed as you shuffled to stand in front of him. “You listen to me and you listen to me well. You are not the cause of my pain. I hurt because you hurt. The people that hurt you are the ones that hurt me...not you.” Forcing Cale’s cheeks up to look at you, you brushed your thumbs along his jaw. 

“Never apologize for ‘dragging me into’ something. We are partners, we are equals. You cannot carry the emotional burden of this relationship alone. And lately you’ve been doing more work in that regard than you should. So DO NOT apologize. It’s my turn to carry the weight. Let me. Let me support you like you’ve supported me. Let me care for you like you care for me. Maybe I can’t physically carry you out of a lava tube...but I can lift you up emotionally, mentally...I can give you the strength to get through this. You are not alone. You have me. And I’m strong enough to handle this even though it upsets me. Use me. Please. Don’t push me away because you think you have to protect me and handle this on your own.” 

Cale’s tears dripped along your fingertips and you leaned forward pulling his body into yours. 

“We’re gonna get through this Cale...it’ll all blow over. And when it does it’ll just prove to the rest of the world what we already know. That you’re incredible. And we’re unshakable. So whatever you need. I’m here. All you have to do is say the word.” 

“I love you.” Cale’s words were muffled by your clothing, but you heard him loud and clear. 

“I love you too. Always will.” You assured him, nails scraping against his scalp again. Staying like that until his breathing steadied, you dipped down to kiss him gently but deeply. 

“C’mon...let’s order a bunch of junk food, put some stupid comedy on tv and just relax.” You directed. “Though you should probably call mom first. She’s a little concerned and I know hearing your voice would make a big difference.” 

When he nodded, you stepped back, though you didn’t make it far before Cale was wrapped around you again. If he needed to be a koala tonight, you were perfectly okay with that. 

“Do you wanna use my phone so you don’t have to look at yours?” You asked softly. “I did jump into your team group chat to tell the boys to back off a little so you shouldn’t have as many notifications but you can use mine if you aren’t ready to deal with any of that.” 

Cale didn’t seem at all fazed that you had used his phone but he willingly accepted yours, calling his mom. You’d placed an order for food on your laptop while they talked and upon the end of that conversation, you settled in on the couch for the night, only moving for food or drinks. As another episode of the sitcom Cale had picked ended, you looked down at him snoring softly, his head on your chest. 

Today had been exhausting...this week had been exhausting, but you’d dealt with it together and now Cale knew that he didn’t have to bear the weight of the world by himself. You were bound to have bad days every now and then, but together you could get through so much more than either of you could separately.

Jessica cuts off one of Matthew's lines and Claire almost misses an entrance, but overall it was just a perfect performance with a perfect audience.
