Game Over - Haechan SMAU Masterlist

Synopsis; When members of NCU's ESport's team start dropping out of this years tournament due to schedule conflictions, Haechan is put in a tough situation. Does he bite back the hostility of letting a girl that he doesn't even know join the team so they have a fighting chance at this years championship, or does he let the frustration and stress of being Captain weight him down and hurt the team in the long run.

What happens when members of the team are unable to play and ESportsCaptain!Haechan has to recruit a certain journalist to compete. SUBJECT #1138-B7 was brought to the operating theater, prepped and draped in the usual fashion. Intravenous access was established using a 20-gauge catheter inserted into the left antecubital vein. Electrodes were placed on the scalp for continuous EEG monitoring. Additional sensors were attached to record heart rate, respiratory rate, and galvanic skin response (GSR).

Subject presents as a 25 year old male, physically healthy, baseline vitals recorded WNL. Subject exhibited signs of anxiety and resistance, which were managed by the use of sedatives (2 mg Midazolam IV).

[09:53:11]: Subject questioned to establish baseline cognitive and physiological parameters. Orientation, recall, and basic comprehension intact.

[10:00:00]: Infusion of proprietary psychotropic agent PCA-35 initiated at a rate of 5 mL/min.

[10:03:48]: Subject displays signs of restlessness. Cortical activation indicated by increased uptake on EEG. Subject gives responses to verbal stimuli and reports a sensation of lightheadedness.

[10:04:25]: Subject complains of stinging sensation and bittersweet taste. Noted slight tremor in extremities and increased heart rate. GSR indicates heightened anxiety.

[10:05:13]: Subject questioned to establish cognitive and physiological parameters. Noted delayed responses. Subject struggles to follow simple instructions, becomes distracted, provides incoherent explanations of surroundings, misinterprets questions.

[10:09:32]: Subject begins to exhibit signs of altered perception, including auditory hallucinations and delirium. EEG shows increased theta wave activity. Physical agitation observed; restraints effective in maintaining Subject's position. Subject too agitated for cognitive and physiological testing.

[10:14:45]: Administration of compound #GS-P5R initiated at 12 L/min via inhalation mask to reduce anxiety and stabilize neural response. Infusion of PCA-35 increased to 7.5 mL/min.

[10:19:48]: Subject's responses to verbal and physical stimuli decrease significantly. Continued monitoring shows stable vitals but increased physical rigidity. Administered 1 mg Lorazepam IV to reduce muscle tension.

[10:24:22]: Subject’s speech becomes slurred and incoherent. Noted disorientation to stimuli, increased muscle laxity. Decrease in heart rate and blood pressure.

[10:33:14]: Subject enters a semi-catatonic state. Eyes remain open but unresponsive to visual stimuli. Pupils equal but dilated. EEG shows dominant delta wave activity.

[10:42:28]: Subject displays signs of decreased neural responsiveness. Decreased pupillary reaction, continued slow rolling movement of the eyes, jerky movement of the whole body (hypnic jerks). Persistent drooling noted.

[10:45:04]: Infusion of PCA-13 reduced to 1 mL/min. Administration of compound #GS-P5R reduced to 2 L/min via nasal cannula.

[10:50:34]: Subject engaged with repetitive commands in accordance to Behavioral Compliance Protocols. Verbal cues, electronic conditioning, and multi-sensory stimuli reinforcement prove ineffective. Subject remains largely non-reactive.

[10:57:55]: Subject’s eyes remain unfocused with significant drooping. Attempts to direct gaze result in brief eye opening, followed by rapid drooping. Subject mumbles incoherently.

[10:58:06]: Speculum applied to maintain eyelid retraction for continuous observation and responsiveness testing. Subject demonstrates minimal resistance; remains in stuporous state. Droplets of propriety psychotic #3A administered to each eye. Immediate increase in pupil dilation and noticeable twitching observed.

[11:10:19]: Increased auditory and visual stimuli introduced to enhance command comprehension of Behavioral Compliance Protocols. Subject displays signs of severe neural suppression. EEG findings variable and nonspecific, low voltage and slow irregular activity nonreactive to sensory stimuli.

[11:15:52]: Subject engaged with high-intensity visual stimuli (rapid flashing) and continuous auditory commands. Subject shows brief eye fixation on visual stimulus, with occasional facial twitching. Overall response is characterized by slow, inconsistent movements and frequent confusion. [11:20:14]: Administered low-frequency auditory tones and ambient lighting. Subject displays intermittent eye tracking and reflexive vocalizations. Eyes lubricated to prevent irritation; speculum remains in place. Despite the high level of impairment, occasional partial compliance with commands noted.

[11:30:31]: Subject provided with 500 mL saline IV to maintain hydration. Subject engaged with repetitive commands in accordance to Compliance Protocols. Verbal cues, electronic conditioning, and multi-sensory stimuli reinforcement prove moderately effective as demonstrated by increased uptake seen on EEG. Noted severe motor function impairment, persistent drooling, disorientation.

[11:37:48]: Visual and auditory stimuli calibrated to induce deep trance state in preparation for Hypnotic Compliance Protocols. Subject's head and neck stabilized to ensure alignment with visual stimuli. Monitored vital signs remain stable but indicate persistent sedation effects. Subject remains largely unresponsive, exhibiting only involuntary reflexes and intense eye fixation on visual stimulus.

Darcy's Magic & Magic Theory [UPDATED]

Magic Signature: Her magic signature (information about the different signatures is available here) is her unique magic of both psychic and dark magic, and although her magic itself is Lilith's, the magic, the way Darcy uses it, and that combined with her energy as a person contributes to her magic signature

In my mind, her magic signature would show obvious dark and psychic magic, along with bringing a small feeling of foreboding (a fleeting one that you may not catch) if you walk past her or something.

This is also the reason in my mind how Musa in season 2 was able to recognize Darcy during the Trix's first attack at Red Fountain, as both magic users who who the music and psychic element can more easily pick up on magical signatures as they all operate on the same frequency of theta waves (the brainwave present during meditation, hypnosis, and music can interact with the different types of brain waves including this one).

When your brain is in the theta wave state (at least according to Google and from what I remember from classes) you are more connected to your subconscious and can pick up on energies and insights.

Different magical signatures (not just the magic signature) would normally be in this state, and for one's magic to operate on the same wavelength as them makes it easier to pick up on them. Darcy can easily pick up on different magical signatures as they operate on the same wavelength as her psychic magic.

Planet Signature:

"The energy that all things in the magic dimension have, and it comes from the planet they were born form. Plants, faries, witches, specialists, you name it.

One's planet signature gives them enough to manifest a spell but not cast a spell. Casting is giving a spell a clear physical cause and form, while manifesting is willing it into existence."

Darcy's planet signature comes from her planet in my backstory for her: Zenothe (more information in the linked post). It is the previously dead planet where a lot of witches went after being turned away when dark magic and therefore them started appearing. Most of the original witches on Zenothe came from Domino, and they brought a small spark of a flame from Domino (not the Dragon Flame obs, which's connected to the Dominion bloodline) and it merged with the dark/dead/barely existing planet signature of Zenothe to create a dark flame of sorts.

Darcy's planet signature is that of Zenothe, and is identical to other witches from Zenothe who were born there and didn't come to Zenothe from another planet.

This is why she was able to channel a dark flame to burn Alfea's library in season three, the episode where Musa gained Enchantix.

Mental Signature:

"So a mental signature is the natural energy your thoughts, memories, and mental process give off. If you're calm and think things through your mental signature will reveal that, and if you're a bigot and your thoughts show that, your mental signature will show that as well."

Darcy has a naturally strong mental signature due to her affinity for psychic magic, and it is very easy for her to recognize other mental signatures due to her magic as well. It is clear if someone detects her mental signature that she uses the psychic element, due to the amount of magic that is focused in her mind.

More scientifically, the brain. Magic is in one's blood and flows as such, though psychic magic is found and would be located in the veins and arteries in one's brain.

Thoughts, as mentioned in the post about magical signatures, also influence one's mental signature. By this logic, Darcy's mental signature would make it clear that she is a witch (with how witches use negative emotions to fuel their magic), the emotion she most frequently uses if the one detecting her mental signature is skilled enough (being a need for control to fuel her psychic magic, and the emotion of apathy to fuel her dark magic, more information about how emotions fuel magic here), her usually calm and collected attitude, etc.

In one word, her mental signature would be collected and chaotic, as her mental signature is a collection of all her emotions, thoughts, attitudes, and beliefs. As in control of herself, as she is, her mental signature is one caught of off guard when reading it (though her psychic magic naturally protects her mind from being read by these means, at least if the person doesn't put in the magical effort to) would be chaotic.

Darcy & Liltith's Magic:

"Darcy's was quite remarkable. Quite a few of the witches on Zenothe were known for getting their magic from Lilith, though only the shadow side of Lilith's magic was expressed in these few witches (this was purposefully from the witch's side, not wanting to give her power to someone/multiple people she couldn't control). Lilith decided to give her psychic magic slowly, saving most of the magic for last.

Though Lilith's psychic magic is strong, and Darcy was a child, and not a lot of people on her planet knew how to deal with it. She had a neighbour or two who came from other planets with psychic magic who tried to help her deal with it and train her, but it was too much magic too quickly. It was painful."

Darcy naturally had an affinity for dark magic (illusion magic, shadow magic, transportation, all of that), similarly to some others on her planet that got their magic from Lilith. That was the magic she was born with, and the magic she was used to.

Lilith was able to channel psychic magic (the second magic the Ancestral Witch has control over) to Darcy due to that, due to a similarity in magic. Darcy slowly began to get headaches and migraines, as having psychic magic in one's brain is jarring if brought into someone's self too quickly as Lilith had done.

The brain of course controls a lot of the body, and so having new magic in there that wasn't there before impacted Darcy physically. She would have been fine if Lilith channelled only a small amount of psychic magic and left it to naturally develop, or if the psychic magic was introduced slowly over a long period. However this was not the case.

Darcy frequently suffered from insomnia (due to the parts of her brain controlling her circadian rhythm being messed up), headaches, and forgetting memories only to recall them the next day. Until she fully got her psychic magic, and she learned to control it.

These negative side effects of magic do not normally happen if one's body is used to the magic, because the psychic magic would learn to regulate itself on its own.

Psychic Magic: In order to properly and skillfully use psychic magic, one has to have very deep knowledge of how the brain works, its parts, and its different processes. As well as how the conscious, subconscious, and unconscious works. So Darcy is very well versed in the anatomy of the brain and psychology in order to use her magic as well as she can.

Mind Reading:

~ Mind reading works by the user mimicking the brain waves being emitted by the individual whose thoughts they want to read, so that the individual's thoughts are able to move along from the individual into what is known as the "psychic space," which is the distance between the mind reader and the individual. The thoughts then reach the mind reader.

~ Mind reading can work with both the conscious thoughts; the subconscious, thoughts that are not directly in one's awareness but can be recalled; and the unconscious, 'repressed thoughts' that an individual is not aware of. The mind reader just needs to mimic different brain waves depending on such.

~ Mimicking brain waves for this and other abilities is needed so that the target does not realize what is going on and cannot put up defences.

Psychic Linking:

~ Psychic linking is when a psychic magic user links their mind and someone else's across the "psychic space" in a way that is semi-permanent until it is broken off by one of the individuals. This form of a connection across the "psychic space" requires less than the normal amount of effort among the linked individuals to do things such as communicating telepathically, and makes it easy to do so across long distances where it takes a lot of effort and energy to communicate telepathically to read someone's mind.

Mind Control:

~ Mind control is when a psychic magic user controls an individual's conscious thoughts and actions, though this does not require that the individual's conscious thoughts are completely buried/nullified. To mind control someone, one would have to control the person's brain to control the individual's movement, speech, and expressions simultaneously; so temporarily invading an individual's mind through a process similar to mind reading in practical for this, though more deeply ingrained and more invasive than typical mind reading processes.

Telekinesis:

~ Projecting psychic energy across the "psychic space" to the planet signature (one of the three magical signatures) of an object. Everything from the magical dimension has a planet signature, and as such can be controlled by psychic energy that merges the psychic energy into the planet signature.

Hypnosis:

~ A hypnotic state is when an individual becomes more subjective to suggestion, and they are put in a meditative/calmer state. Putting someone in a hypnotic state requires the psychic magic user to put the victim in a more relaxed state with mental manipulation (controlling their stress levels via the hypothalamus and adrenal glands, which are parts of the endocrine system that control stress) and other parts of their mind. This uses less energy than mind control as the victim only has to be suggested to do something instead of the psychic magic user having to control every aspect of the action; the difference between dragging someone through a doorway, or suggesting that going through the doorway would be a good idea.

Clairvoyance:

~ Clairvoyance is the act of seeing events before they happen. To do this one has to open their natural psychic protections up to everything around them while focusing on the thought of what they are looking for specifically. It is a very chaotic and draining process, and Darcy does not use this ability of hers due to it feeling similar to the lack of control she had over her psychic magic when she was a child.

Mental Manipulation:

~ Mental manipulation is the overall manipulation over the physical brain and does not include interacting across the "psychic space." Once again, one has to have a good understanding of the structure of the brain and psychology to do this. Every being that can think has a mental signature (not as strong as those with psychic magic, but they do) and that can be manipulated as such, as the mental signature, like psychic magic, is located in the veins and arteries of the brain. A small (like a speck) amount of psychic magic in everyone's mind so they have awareness, and was given to them by the Great Dragon. Control of this speck for psychic magic users is the same as Bloom manipulating a candle, and once again, reaching across the "psychic space" is not needed and is not recommended, as it can lead to one feeling the same effects of the mental manipulation as the target.

~ Actions related to mental manipulation are, for example: messing with someone's pain reflex to put them in agony, making them hallucinate, feel nauseous, collapse and lose consciousness (this takes a lot of energy and is impractical), making them sleep better or worse, making them lose sight by blocking off their ocular nerve, and other things of the like.

Psychic Healing:

~ Psychic healing falls under the category of mental manipulation and is completed by a psychic magic user manipulating an individual's brain to send more white blood cells/blood/healing stuff to the wound. This is different than time reversal healing, or Bloom's Dragon Flame healing which removes all impurities from the body and gives pure life energy.

Telepathy:

~ Temporarily cementing the "psychic space" between two individuals and sending one's thoughts between them, and this process is easier if the thoughts are in similar brain waves. As such, it is hard to communicate telepathically with someone if one person is stressed and the other is not, though this difficulty does not exist if the two minds are linked through psychic linking as described above.

Self-Manipulation:

~ Basically manipulating your own mind to do certain things such as sleeping better, or becoming calmer. Though this is both difficult to do, and can lead to permanent damage. This is because when manipulating someone else's mind, they recover and the manipulation is temporary due to distance from the psychic magic user. If one manipulates their own mind there is no distance, and it is permanent. Darcy does not go into this part of her magic cause she's not an idiot, and although she knows what she's doing, she's not going to risk anything.

Energy Wave Manipulation:

~ This takes a lot of energy and skill, but if the psychic magic user has the knowledge to do so they are able to mess with objects (such as the simulation chamber Darcy had messed with during reason one) that operate on the electromagnetic wave spectrum by disrupting the frequency of the waves via powerful mental waves (typically beta waves, the wavelength when exhibits when they are awake and alert).

Dark Magic: Dark magic (otherwise known as dark arts) encapsulates control over shadows and illusion magic. Moon magic does not fall under this category. Also, deception magic of illusions can be expressed in individuals separate from dark arts, though those who have dark magic have both shadows and illusion magic, and the two cannot be separated and are one singular element.

Teleportation:

~ It works if the magic user knows the area well, and cannot be done through inter-planet travel (where an item such as Stella's scepture, or a portal is required). One has to clearly picture where they want to transport to (the more clear, the more reliable the transportation is) and let their being move into the "dimensional space" (Point at the air in front of you. That's dimensional space. Any space that's not occupied with an object/by a planet signature that all objects have is part of the dimensional space) not as a physical form and becoming only all three of one's magical signatures at once, and to where they want to go, before regaining physicality.

Shadow Transmutation:

~ Reach out with dark magic. Shadow with similar energy. Control it, move it, bop it, shake it. The more complicated the shape of the transmutation and the bigger it is, the more energy it takes for the magic user in order to control it.

Illusions:

~ Basically filling the "dimensional space" with shadows that are on an atomic level and reforming them to give them a physical form, that can be controlled like in shadow transmutation, though it takes focus to control every aspect of its movement along with filling the "dimensional space." It takes less energy but more focus than shadow transmutation. Illusions are always physical and are often confused with holographic projection, which is an easier process.

Holographic Projection:

~ Filling the "dimensional space" with a duplication of an already existing image. This is not physical and only visual, those these holographic projections could be audible if the original image speaks. Makes shadows on an atomic form mimic an image by giving them a role, and letting them copy that image as such without needing constant control. Basically, illusions in a way, except they take less focus, is not physical, and are more practical during combat

Invisibility:

~ Filling the "dimensional space" around oneself with shadow magic and warping its appearance to fit that of one's surroundings. It uses the same and identical process are holographic projection where the atoms of shadow magic are given a role and does not need constant control to maintain said role. It is easy to stay invisible while using other spells because of this.

Pos/Neg Effects:

~ Some of the positive effects Darcy has because of both her dark and psychic magic is: she can tell time (like Stella) by looking at the sky but especially during nighttime while Stella's ability works better in the day, she can read people very well in terms of their tone and body language, she naturally feels calmer in dimmer conditions

~ Some of the negative effects Darcy has: if she is in extremely bright conditions (normal daylight is fine) it is very unpleasant, with psychic magic it is necessary that one does not burry any trauma or unpleasantries so she has to address things in order to properly use her magic to its fullest level

Brief: A an entry to the species dossier outlining ayuli. Intended for relaying basic biological and sociological information to individuals who need to interact with ayuli for purposes of trade with the Naranaka corporation.

Visual description: On average standing 1.1-1.5 meters tall, the ayuli are stout quadrupeds. Their relatively featureless bodies are covered in a thin layer of velvety black fur, which absorbs around 95% of incoming light. They have no eyes or mouths, though there is still a head present. They have short, pointed ears, similar to a cat's. Their legs are double jointed and digitigrade, and longer than they seem to be at first glance. An ayuli standing up as tall as possible (very uncomfortable) almost doubles its height.

Biological description: Ayuli are lucivores, which caused some confusion during first contact that they may be taxonomically considered plants. Most of the energy they use is gathered from light absorbed by the membranous "fur" that covers their body. Other nutrients they require are absorbed through the skin from the chemically rich ocean water of their home planet. Their only orifices are one for sexual use and one for waste removal (similar to a cloaca). These orifices are fully hidden from view when not in use. The life cycle of ayuli starts at a clutch of eggs. Eggs are typically laid in clutches of twenty to twenty-five, though only two to three will survive hatching. Newly hatched young are amphibious, with very weak legs. They spend most of the first few years of their lives in beach shallows or tide pools. By the age of five years, the ayuli's legs have strengthened and they have entered the juvenile stage of their life. A juvenile ayuli is much like an adult, albeit smaller and typically more slender. They are biologically considered adults at the age of seventeen years (socially, twenty years). Ayuli are divided into three sexes - the female-adjacent alpha-type, the male-adjacent beta-type, and the theta-type. The alpha-type absorbs genetic material from the beta-type, with which it produces fertilized eggs. The theta-type is completely incapable of reproduction, having a few other sexual characteristics instead. Alpha-type ayuli carry a clutch of eggs for eleven to twelve months before laying, as it takes their bodies a long amount of time to absorb the necessary material to form both yolk and shell. Each alpha-type ayuli tends to produce only one to two clutches of eggs over their lifetime, though it's recorded some have produced upwards of ten. Beta-type ayuli are historically the builders and homekeepers of the ayuli family, tasked with maintaining the tide pools that most of their young mature in. In an odd note, the beta-type actually provides the egg cells to the alpha-type, reverse of most organisms studied outside of the ayuli homeworld. Theta-type ayuli are not involved in the reproductive process, and only constitute around a tenth of hatchlings. When theta-type ayuli mature into adults, their telepathic ability multiplicatively increases in strength and range. This makes them extremely useful as long-range communicators and coordinators, and their existence was a large part of why the ayuli developed interstellar travel. Ayuli have very few natural predators. The few predators that do feed off of Ayuli typically target and eat eggs.

Sociological information: Ayuli are classified as a TYPE I SAPIENT species. While most sapient species communicate through audio-visual means, Ayuli almost exclusively communicate telepathically (the only real exception to this being their fear/aggression signal - a tensing of muscles and a pulsing ruffling of the "fur". If you see an ayuli displaying this behavior either de-escalate the situation or leave). They typically are capable of sending and receiving thoughts from a distance of up to around ten meters. Without the assistance of any form of tools or writing, this is their only method of communication. Fortunately for the other species they have chosen to interact with, they have developed highly advanced hardsuits for the purposes of interstellar travel and diplomatic efforts, which can convert an ayuli's telepathic sending into visually displayed text or words spoken electronically. Most ayuli that non-ayuli sapients interact with are clothed in thick hardsuits or armor, with the ayuli only showing skin for very formal events or highly informal meetings. Particularly advanced ayuli hardsuits are not much thicker than human clothing. Touch is considered a very intimate thing in most ayuli cultures - do not touch one without express permission. It's considered likely that this stems from the fact that their membranous "fur" is both their main method of regaining energy and fragile, making personal space and hesitancy to touch a matter of personal safety. While the safety aspect is mostly mitigated due to improved methods of feeding and near constant hardsuit use, the societal pressure remains. Each of the ayuli sexes/genders tends to display differently in their society. Alpha-type ayuli tend to wear lighter clothing, with thin flowy fabrics being in fashion for centuries. Beta-type ayuli stylistically prefer a more hardy appearance, with thick draped cloth or even plating being fashionable. Theta-type ayuli are the most recognizably different, as they by and large wear the robes that mark them as members of the clergy, navigator's guild, or socio-political groups. Do note, however, that to the human eye the three sexes of ayuli are indistinguishable, and, like most sapient species, ayuli do not always dress inside traditional roles. The name ayuli, in their own language, is a shortening of the phrase "child of the great star Ayat". This is related to the most accepted religion of their species, Laiyanism. Laiyanists believe that all stars are part of a great interwoven series of minds, and that the sunlight/starlight they gain energy from is a direct connection to the oldest and most knowledgable of those minds, Ayat. Hardline members of the Laiyanic order tend to be very xenophobic, as view other species' lack of connection to the stars as similar to having no soul. Fortunately for trade, most Laiyanists take the religion more as a tradition than as a guideline for all interactions.

Intersocietal information: Ayuli are one of the earliest species to develop interstellar travel, so they already had a head start on communication and intercultural trade protocol when connected to the MDN. The influence of their culture is estimated to be around 20-30% in Naranaka's hubworlds, with ayuli commonly seen employed in private security, military, diplomatic, and engineering sectors. A large portion of their technology is built to be psionically reactive, resulting in an appearance of there being no controls or readouts unless built for other species to interact with.

Dos and Don'ts Do: speak clearly so that their hardsuit sensors can transcribe your voice. Do not: compare them to dogs. Do: maintain a distance of a few feet as is culturally appropriate. Do not: touch an ayuli without express permission. Do: compliment them on cleanliness, orderliness, or personal control/discipline. Do not: make mention of bodily proportions, weight, muscularity, etc. Do: keep note of what direction their ears are pointed in. It shows the direction their attention is focused on. Do not: assume an ayuli is not paying attention to you because its head is turned away from you.

Common Misconceptions: Ayuli cannot read your mind. They can only read thoughts that are "sent" and most species are incapable of sending. Ayuli are not dogs. They do not act like dogs. Do not treat them like dogs. They aren't cats either. Ayuli are not a hivemind. Hivemind entities are far more interconnected than ayuli society. Ayuli can not eat solid food. Dinner with an ayuli will not involve the ayuli ordering food. Ayuli technology and psionics are not magic. Antimagic fields or thaumic flux fields will not disrupt their communication.

• Subject: “Isaiah Carter” – Detected in both Lagos and London. Facial recognition AI confirmed a 100% match, despite official records showing both individuals living distinct, verifiable lives.

These anomalies exceed the threshold of natural human replication.

If these individuals are rogue agents, it suggests that some are no longer content with taking one human identity and are instead multiplying themselves.

Alternatively, if this is an external force at work, we are dealing with an incursion unlike any previously recorded.

now we have Mimi and her infinite flow esque Death Games she has in her digital ghost space in her girlfriend's server where she's recreating the events that lead to her death to figure out eventually why Epoch was involved (the main character is mimi's beta tester Minuet (working name for him) but mimi is the driving force of the story)

and finally Ultima with the culmination of Epoch's project, who is a literal god/dess of creation, the form of a white hole, because Epoch has achieved space travel and is making it everyone's problem. black hole x white hole

Synopsis; When members of NCU's ESport's team start dropping out of this years tournament due to schedule conflictions, Haechan is put in a tough situation. Does he bite back the hostility of letting a girl that he doesn't even know join the team so they have a fighting chance at this years championship, or does he let the frustration and stress of being Captain weight him down and hurt the team in the long run.

What happens when members of the team are unable to play and ESportsCaptain!Haechan has to recruit a certain journalist to compete. What better way to write a ground breaking column about ESports than to experience it first hand? Luckily for her, Haechan is desperate enough to teach her the ends and outs of competitive gaming.

04; Nu Chi Theta

You arrived with everyone shortly after the party hit off, feeling so out of place. For some reason, Winter was able to coerce you into wearing something so far out of your comfort zone you wanted to curl up in a hide. Luckily you had Renjun with you, someone who you can sympathize with in social gatherings like this.

“How did we let them bring us here? You were my ‘say I’ buddy,” you pouted to him as you all climbed up the stairs towards the booming music you could already feel in your chest. This is going to be a long painful night. You grabbed onto his arm. “I’ll kill you if you leave me Junnie. I’m not playing.”

“If I leave you it’s because I already died,” he rolled his eyes before leading you both inside the front door behind Chenle, Jisung, Karina, and Winter. Those four were in their element. There was going to be no way you two could keep up with them. Jisung would be the closest to Renjun and yours’ social battery but even he looked excited to be here.

Renjun led you both to the kitchen to grab a drink. The second you got there, you contemplated ending it all because guess who was also making himself nice and homey with the booze spread across the counter. “Haechan,” you said. He turned around with a big smile before it immediately wiped off his face. You hate that his smile made your heart skip a little. His body straightened up for a second before he slouched again and threw on an uninterested look.

“Hmm,” he dismissed you as he poured himself something clear into his cup before taking a swig of it. “I figured you’d be home ���practicing’” he air quoted.”We all know you need it. Your skill set isn’t going to help us advance in the tournament so I don’t even see why you bother trying to step foot in an area that doesn’t concern you,” he gave you a pitying look. You clenched your jaw briefly before relaxing and putting on an unimpressed face.

“Aww poor Haechan is feeling threatened? I haven’t even been playing with you guys for a week yet and I already cornered you last match. You’re talking all this talk about me being a shitty player. What does that say about you?” you stepped up to him, pointing a finger at his chest, poking it. “This ‘girl’ almost took you down in a week. I’d focus more on your own ‘practicing’ than mine,” you grabbed the solo cup in his hand and took a big gulp of it. “Thanks for pouring me a drink,” you winked before bumping his shoulder and walking off, Renjun following closely behind you.

“Oooh where did you find a comeback like that my nonchalant queen,” Renjun gently bumped your shoulder, teasing.You groaned and chugged the rest of Haechan disgusting mix of liquor.

He’s so infuriating. He can’t even compliment me a little bit? It’s always ‘you’re never going to improve’, ‘you’re hopeless’, ‘I don’t even know why I bother with you, it’s a waste of time. You’re a waste of time’. You huff, already feeling the frustration sting your eyes as they watered. “Oh come on,” you chuckle quietly as you sniffle, rubbing your eyes. “You know I'm the most chalant person around.” 

Renjun gave you a sad look before rubbing your shoulders and pulling you into an embrace. “Yeah, I know.” you huffed a few more times, getting frustrated at yourself for letting some petty words Haechan said get to you.

Haechan had finally come to a resolve. It was going to suck balls but he needed to do it for the greater good of the team. Yeah. That’s all it was. He pulled out his phone and took a deep breath before typing a message. He stared at it for what felt like forever, deleting it and retyping it before he felt like it was good enough. He hit send and went to find Mark and the rest of his crew to let them know he’s heading out for the night.

“I need a serious drink. Not the shitty excuse of one Haechan was drinking,” you looked around to see where the majority of the crowds were gathering. You grabbed Renjun’s hand, tugging him away from the crowded back patio, back through the doors and into the kitchen. By then, Haechan wasn’t in sight so you breathed a sigh of relief, finally getting a hold on some liquor from the counter. ‘Do you plan to drink tonight? Usually we DD together so I was just wondering if you’d be okay on your own.”

Renjun hmmed a bit before nodding with a chuckle. “Yes I’ll be fine. Even though Jisung seemed super excited for the party tonight, his battery has already died,” he nodded his head over to the living room where Jisung sat on the couch watching everyone around him. “He’ll help me handle you guys.”

“Oh perfect. Because I plan to have a hangover in the morning,” you smiled over at him before grabbing the first thing in front of you. Looks like a tequila night.
