I've been having 'the Golden Core' and JC/WN brainriot...
For JC, Wen Ning symbolises his trauma and grief, everything that went wrong in his. Throughout everything that happened to him, WN consistently remained a key figure. He's a Wen, he was there when JC lost his Golden Core, he's the reason WWX left the Jiangs, he's the Yiling Laozu's (WWX's!!) right hand man, he killed JZX. WN's never actually done anything wrong in everything that has happened but he's still been there the entire time, being directly tied up in everything.
JC already has a complex where he redirects his anger, hurt and blame onto others, usually WWX (though we see him try to do it with JGY who calls him out for it), who's a more reachable figure than others, WWX who readily would take any hurt if it meant JC didn't have to experience it. It's not a stretch he does that to WN too. We see JC being single-mindesly obsessed with killing WN, even more so than WWX (because he still cares for WWX and is stuck in this limbo in wanting to make him hurt like he has been, forgetting that WWX has actually suffered too, while also not wanting to truly hurt him) because it's easier to blame WN. WN, apart from being the person JC sees responsibile for all his problems, is nobody to JC. He doesn't care at all for WN, unlike WWX. We see that he blamed WN for both of JL's parents' death (even though WN wasn't even present for JYL's). JC tries time and time again to hurt WN, insulting him, hitting him in ways that would've have at least seriously injured him were he not a fierce corpse.
That's why it's so important for WN to be the one to stand up to JC and tell him about the golden core reveal, both for his own arc and JC's. Here's WN, who had been a such a key but passive figure in JC's life until now, actually fighting back against JC. WWX would have never actually stood up for himself. He still would have enabled JC's complex that hurt the both of them. And WN sees that.
It's not just about defending WWX in the moment. It's about this cycle of hurt that both of them have been perpetuating, and suffering due to, and it has to end. WN wouldn't have betrayed WWX's trust for words, something that WWX has constantly had to dealt with, and certainly not for himself, seeing that he never retaliates whenever JC goes after him.
Maybe some of WN's own hurt does leak into him telling off JC, as shown by how he reaffirms his sister, the best doctor in the cultivation world, his sister who died despite never hurting a soul. But it was first and foremost because of WWX.
And then WN takes the hit from NMJ, protecting JL and JC, neither of them could hold onto their anger and hatred to WN any longer. Here was WN who he had held responsible for so long, protecting him and his beloved nephew. JC just can't hold onto his negative feelings towards him any longer.

Calling golden age Clark an anticapitalist/socialist paragon is only true for prewar golden age Clark (1938-42). The instant the US entered the war and the character started to be used to sell war stamps, he couldn't act as anti-authoritarian; destroying a car factory for its use of unsafe, inferior materials (action 12), trapping a mine owner in his own mine to force him to improve conditions for his workers (action 3), or tearing down tenement housing in order to force the government to build better, safer apartments (action 8) are all actions that would be seen as actively traitorous in the wake of Pearl Harbor. The Superman office contributed enthusiastically to war propaganda in all the forms of media the character was appearing in (comics, newspaper strips, radio show, and the Fleischer animations). By the end of the war Superman the Character was firmly established as Establishment. Postwar golden age Superman is still devoted to doing the right thing, of course, but now he helps raise money for charity, donates his time and labor to build orphanages, that sort of thing. He's not trying to tear the system down... much as I wish DC would let him try.
Instead of Siegel's original justice cryptid, the furiously kinetic Champion of the Oppressed outsider Superman, postwar to modern day we get a Clark who shifts back and forth on the spectrum of establishmentarianism depending on the writer, but who is generally not allowed to act directly against institutions (Wolfman, Morrison, Waid, Byrne, and Maggin for example all have WILDLY different takes on the relationship between superman and Authority). My personal favorite Take is that Clark as a person is not establishmentarian, but the establishment of superheroes and their conduct codified (or calcified, if you prefer) itself around him and his personal conduct. Both in a Doylist sense and in the continuities where he's the First Superhero a Watsonian one. How does your behavior change when you know people are looking to you to determine what's right and what's allowed for themselves? How does that constrict you, when your actions are dissected and taken for justification? That's why I always think of him as a person whose natural inclination is to be chaotic good, but who restrains himself into being lawful good. Clark would sure LIKE to Solve Capitalism. But he both can't, and will never be allowed to... and that tension, far from being a bad thing, can fuel a good interpretation.

imagining the story from pei ming's perspective is rlly funny i think. this god from all that time ago ascends again (you were there for the first two times) and immediately waltzes into a situation that fucks something up for your descendant (putting both of your reputations on the line, messing up how hard your descendant worked to become a god and how hard you worked to ensure that he would have that chance) and then refuses to let you smooth the situation out and on TOP of that your friend's little sister (who hates you and who you are trying to look out for by request of your friend) is on your case about it too. so you've gotta work all that out and then like. you chill for a little bit (still kind of upset about your descendant) until your friend undergoes a heavenly calamity. and then in the space of like A Day the god from earlier shows up again with a fucking ghost king, your friend dies, the little sister you're supposed to be looking out for disappears, and everything just kinda goes to shit. so you're like. grieving. trying to process everything. until your OTHER close friend goes off the fucking rails with the spirit of that guy she murdered, and then you get called out to the spooky ghost mountain where you're confronted with the girl whose death YOU were essentially responsible for and have never really come to terms with, and then like. you just kind of hang out with these gay people until everything resolves itself. fight some ghosts. fight the heavenly emperor. get your friend to stop being evil for a little while so she can fix the filing systems. and then you just have to keep being the god of love i guess

VINCE IS SO DOWN BAD FOR RODY OH MY GOD??? LITERALLY KILLS HIS EX GIRLFRIEND TO MAKE HIM HAPPY???? THEYVE KNOWN EACH OTHER LESS THAN A WEEK??????
LITERALLY LIKE- MY MAN FELL HARD AND INSANELY. LIKE WHO DOES THAT? I wouldn't have it any other way. Just the way that as soon as Rody came into his life he was like 'I need this man to be so whole-y mine.'
When I was playing the game my pet theory was that he fell for Rody's brand of love, for how he loved Manon (he did say that he spoke of Manon when they first met) and Rody's personality.
(read more because I am so annoying about this game vv)
Something something, how Rody loves so intensely to the detriment of himself (Manon told him to stop giving, to for once in his life realise that he needed to take care of him self and be stable. He can't just account for the other person's needs <- barely know her but I get why Rody was head over heels). How Rody's love is similar to his cooking, burning, burning himself, burning and oh so overwhelming. And I do think Vince wanted the feel of that burn for himself, wanted to feel the warmth and devotion of which he had been so devoid of. To understand what it was he was lacking. How love and cooking go hand in hand in the story, how Vince's dishes were devoid of love, how he can't taste. How Rody's love surely would be strong enough, would be the missing ingredient to allow him to finally taste something. (Also lack of taste going hand in hand with what looks like depression of some sort, or perhaps just apathy for life. How bland his own life may be. How such a love, such a person could perhaps bring some taste to his life.) Vince seems to have killed Manon as a form of trying to show Rody a similar type of love. Giving him something, giving him a meal made out of Rody's own love. A gift since he couldn't give his own brand of love in a way that matters, couldn't give it without showing his own brand of devotion. I do think he 100% had an underlying jealousy and hatred of Manon, how Rody was still stuck up on her. How she never once mentioned Rody when her and Vince dated (though outside of Vince's pov I'm pretty sure Manon was just doing the healthy normal thing by not mentioning an ex?? but Vince is soooo gone) which is obviously a sin (he doesn't seem to take kindly to people who are mean to Rody. Such as the article and Rody's old college classmate) and proof she wasn't deserving enough of Rody's love. But alas she was still a gift and show of love to Rody.
On the personality topic (thought I forgot about that did you?), Rody is such a brash and kind person. A perfect foil for Vincent's more stoic nature. Rody willing to try and befriend Vincent, running into the kitchen to talk to him. He showed a bit of said love to Vince by trying to befriend him and how could Vince not want more? (why wouldn't Vince try to reciprocate in his own way. Make him happy) I mean he seems pretty feared by his cooks, and the people at the party have mentioned that Vince is pretty ruthless, not at all a person many wish to get to know. But Rody is willing to, yet Vince wants his undivided attention...
Okay wow this has gone on way too long uhh I'm 100% open to further discussion especially if I forgot something! And I haven't really looked too much into the game past playing it, so any reveals the creator may have given I'm mostly unaware of and would love to be informed of more!
Anyways tiny Vincent attack!

show: *repeatedly parallels a character's relationship to someone they refer to as "my best friend" to the relationship between the main romantic pairing, has the character get upset when their devotion to their friend isn't taken as seriously as the romantic couple's devotion*
the show's intended takeaway, probably: "oh these characters are ~~more than friends~~ actually"
my takeaway: oh hell yeah, aromantic rights
