Hello! Oh there are so many! :D I definitely have some favorites and some which aren't favs but are pretty great.

Putting these under the cut because there are so many! And there's definitely more cool AUs that I haven't seen or haven't saved.

Anyways, please enjoy my personal selection:

Seven Years Too Soon by NightFuchia. Basically what if a much younger Sonic accidentally set Shadow free from Prison Island. It has awesome characterization and happens to be one of my favorite stories. The rest of Team Sonic is also present

Brotherhood's Twist by @/drawloverlala even though I don't think it counts entirely as Au but it still sort of does. Unbreakable Bond ageswitch due to Zeti's meddling.

Passion's @sonic-tangled-au . I love it! So very much. The lore and backstories are so good.

Noonui's World Restored in Imbalanced Chaos au. Extremely engaging and good. Has a bunch of world building and fun concepts and lore.

Sonic's Super Totally Awesome Mixtape, though it seems to be discontinued, I'm not sure. It's pretty good so far! Takes place in the movie verse.

@brainworms-all-night-long is working on a Dreamtale Au which I'm hyped for. The tag in use is 'dreamtale and sonic tomfoolery'.

@/the-starlight-project comic is pretty good too. Mystery! And emotions. So many emotions ough.

The Fair Folk by Irritable_Fabulamancer, this fic is one of my favorites! Team Sonic as Fae my beloved! I love fae AUs.

On that note, if you're alright wanting to read a Fae!AU which is pretty much a sonadow fic, there is also I don't believe in fairy tales [but I believe in you and me]. Fantasy and Fae! Satbk inspired, another one that had me hooked.

My Arms Are Blue by thekyuubivixen and its unofficial, fan-continuation (My Arms Are Blue! Final Four Edition) by PlaystationPassenger. The story doesn't completely count as an AU but I'm recommending them anyway cuz they're really really good and has that watching your own show from different dimension trope. It's also hilarious and fun.

Burning Arrow, Wildfire Heart by Taranea is SatSR novelisation AU with Sonic's other friends present too, it's pretty fun. Not very accurate regarding the desert but it's a good read and I come back to reread it often. Must read in my opinion. Just don't dare use it as guide for desert travel or you'll be shriveled up in the sand somewhere

This fic. Read it, I will not elaborate this one. Just trust me :]

And don't miss out on @shadofiredragon's Legends Never Die fic. It's a future fic! And an awesome one. I won't spoil much but it is so good. She also has lots of fun AUs in the works.

Down the Foxhole series by MoonlitNightin. Sonic Prime AU series which is great! Tails' pov. The Shatterverses have their own Sonics. Engaging and great.

@/sonicchaoscontrol comic. Another in-progress au which is also quite intriguing. Sonic jumps through a portal and exits in future where the planet is a mess. The mystery of what and how it all happened and what's going on slowly unfolds.

The Buzzsaw Dillemma by redpenship. I haven't personally read it myself but I've heard many good things about it, especially it's world building.

Incomplete and won't be updated anymore but if you haven't read them yet, DO NOT miss out on Ghosts of the Future and The Murder of Me fancomics by Evan Stanley (spiritsonic) and Gigi Deutrix (gigi-D) respectively. They're a must read. Both are available on DeviantArt.

The Heart of a Monster comic, @/the-heart-of-a-monster. It's in progress and updates regularly. Unleashed retelling, really really good with some extra lore and everyone involved.

Sometimes the Picket Fence isn’t Perfect and Sharp Edges (Sonic Prime AU) series by @/skimmingthesurfaces. I'm holding off the first one to read later, like that one book you've been saving so I'm not sure if it completely counts as an AU, still putting it in recs, and the second one is intriguing so far. I have heard a lot of good thing about the Picket Fence series.

Dark Boom by Smash50. The entirety of Team Dark in the Sonic Boom universe. Alongside it, there's also Boomtober by the same author.

It Always Snows by the 24th by Selendred had me hooked even though it's a oneshot. Great au and would love to see it explored more.

No One said I Wish by SylWritesStuff. One of my fav stories from the Sonic Platonic Fairytale Week event. It's really funny.

Sonic Phantom Forces (SPF) au comic. Sonic Forces au, blue boy gets taken away but not in the way you think, pretty cool story so far. It's in-progress and available on both Tumblr and DeviantArt. @/spfau

If Black Doom tried to be a better father by Tirainy. Don't take this one seriously. It's pure comedy and I love every second of it. Shadow is having a time for sure XD.

Silent Talkers by @brainworms-all-night-long. Takes place in the Prime Bros verse, feels intensified, all the good ones. A must read, trust me.

The Sonic Project by SconnieSA. Rated M but it's a pretty awesome AU and the rating is due to more serious themes and uncensored language in some parts. Highly recommending this one

Survivor's Resolve by DC111. Not entirely an AU but I must rec this fic it's so good and doea havs some AU vibes.

Sonic the Hedgehog: Attorney of Law by thedraconicwerewolf. Ace Attorney type AU with Sonic and Tails as main characters. Not too adventurous but very very fun and interesting and still managed to keep Sonic in character. Though it has a sequel started, I only rec the main story, not the sequal as it seems to be abandoned and isn't needed to be read like them cliffhanger stories.

beLIEve by Meow21. I have only read snippets from this, waiting for this story to continue but it seems to be discontinued. Felt like an epic story too and deserves to be recommended.

Sonic and the Golden Journey. Sonic gets thrown in another storybook, this time it's a children's classic fairytale. Short but very comedic and fun. Go read it.

Tales of a Samurai. I am begging you to read this one, please it's so good. Also by Taranea.

Wonderful and it's sequal Sanctuary by Inflamore for some Unbreakable Bond angst. (Kindly ignore the obliviousness of earlier ff.net for not knowing the meaning of certain symbols, there's nothing of the sort in story, trust me.)

Regrets by MazzyBooks. A high school au of sorts. Sonic centric with some heavy angst. I'm not kidding about the angst part, trust me. It had me hooked from the first chapter though and I believe it deserves a rec.

You need the cracks (to let the light shine through) by king.needlemouse. Istg this is the most underrated thing I've ever come across, it's one of my absolute favorite fics which I can never forget. Do read it.

Within this Nightmare by sonicfan1990. Sonic get transported to an alternate universe which has gone post apocalyptic and his counterpart in that universe has been dead. Pretty great story, lots of angst and everything.

And that's all I could remember and have saved for now. I'm leaving this open to more AU recs (yes even self plugs are welcome) so if you know any I missed, plz feel free to add. I hope you enjoy all these great AUs!

So I've seen a lot of fans (especially sonadow fans) concerned about what Ian Flynn said in this recently bumblekast:

I got this video from here (maybe give them a like for providing the video if you have an account)

In this video, there is a question if the Shadow from the current Tailstube is still the current direction for Shadow or if it's just exaggerated to be funny. Ian answered this question with a: "That is very much his current direction. That is after lots of notes and revisions."

But I would like to remind people that this has been Shadows direction for more than the past decade. His competitiveness, arrogance, aggression, and lone wolf personality have been exaggerated for a long while now, which doesn't have to mean that he will be written badly.

Forces Shadow was written under those same restrictions. And he was pretty decent.

IDW had its bad moments, but it wasn't all bad, and it gave us some of our favorite sonadow moments.

These moments were all written under the same current direction for Shadow.

And most importantly:

Prime Shadow had those same restrictions or "mandates", and he was the best written Shadow in years. Even better than most of the 2000s games writing.

In a serious setting like Sonic x Shadow is probably going to be, Shadow won't act like Takeover Shadow or Tailstube Shadow (and they aren't even all that bad tbh, it's just simpler funnier writing, they all act a little dumber than they usually are to make it more entertaining).

For now, let's not assume the worst just because the direction hasn't changed. We all want to see those "mandates" gone so Shadow can have his complexity back, but it doesn't mean it's all bad.

He can still be a good character, and his dynamic with Sonic (and other characters) can still be good, and I'm sure we will still be getting some good Sonadow content.

In conclusion:

Shadow won't act exactly like tmosth Shadow, archie Shadow (which are actually not very in character with early 2000s Shadow anyways) Sonic 06 or Sa2 Shadow in the near future. But he (probably) won't act like vegeta edgelord Shadow either. Those were only his worst moments.

I'm still excited for Sonic x Shadow Generations because there isn't a good reason why I shouldn't be!

Note: every ship (excluding Knuxuge bc that is the only ship I have zero thoughts about other than "its canon") will have caveats to it.

Most of them being I do not have enough knowledge of the actual source(s) to have an opinion

My other one being I really don't care about the supposed canonisity of a ship so if you're wondering why theres only one ship in OTP its bc most of the others have some sort of hc attached to it (ex : All of Sonic's parings)

I love them!:

Hey look its the individual ships that make up SonAmyShad! In all honesty, I really like these three ships individually too, but I will gravitate towards the Sonic pairings more than Shadamy on an individual basis.

And I'm going to say it here Sonic as a character has two modes for me in a shipping sense- Hes either a disaster biromantic demiace or straight up aroace (no inbeween)

I like Sonamy in sense that yeah I can see yeah it can be cute but only if Amy isn't portrayed as an obsessed stalker. I know shes infatuated with Sonic and the idea of being with him, as shown in multiple games (I don't think its been a thing in recent years but I still feel the need to mention it), but I like to believe as Amy matures she realizes that putting Sonic on such a pedestal wasn't a good thing to do for either of them. I also like to think that as Amy mellows out her friendship with Sonic becomes a lot more solid.

Also if I was on a computer I would definitely put Sonadow between I love them! and I ship them for comedic value, bc you know those two idiots would not handle having romantic feelings in any normal way

Shadamy is interesting to me- I really like it I think its cute (Gives me Grease vibes now that I think of it) but I cannot see it being a thing in actual Sonic canon (honestly this is with most ship excluding a few). I see it in a "canon but to the left" kind of way.

So the next ship is Bunny x Antoine (I think). So my only and I mean only exposure to this ship (and these two characters) is from the fan comic TMOM (The Murder of Me) by Gigi and if their characterizations in there are anything like they are in Archie than yes!

Please do not comment asking for me to read the Archie Comics, I do not want to touch that monstrosity with a 10ft pole. (It scares me./j)

I purely ship them for comedic value!:

Infitgadet, I think is how that ship is spelt, is a funny crack ship that I just laugh at. Its stupid, its dumb, but I see the appeal.

Sonally, never watched Satam or read Archie but I do know of Sally through pop culture osmosis. If we're talking about how 90s American (cartoon) Sonic was than sure I see it. But for current Sonic (even Adventure Sonic) not really but I do see them as friends if she could exist again.

Espilver, dont know why I just like them a little

Sonknux, just a really good bromance, with Sonic being a little shit and sometimes flirting with Knuckles.

Not on the list but Sonouge is similar where I dont see them in a relationship they just like to throw flirty banter at eachother and it just confuses anyone who knows how Sonic normally reacts to being flirted with (even funnier if Sonic is aroace)

Sonaze, um its there, to me they'd just be friends with just a heavy meaning behind holding hands

I have never watched Sonic X but I can see the appeal of Tails being in a relationship but I really strongly see him as being aroace flat out, with strong platonic love for his brother and friends.

espilver. yeah. sonadow still has a poetic foil and people have seen fandub footage of sa2 at LEAST, if not the original game. we all know their story, but how many espilver fans have played rivals 2, the origin of the ship? alternatively, how many SILVER fans are gonna woobify the guy into a chibi bastardization?

when you tell someone you don’t ship sonadow, it’s whatever. the second an espio or silver ship other than espilver shows up, it’s like 9/11 because there are always whiny people jamming their 2 cents in. if you think i’m making that up, or if you haven’t experienced it yourself, you are LUCKY.

fun fact: i used to love espilver, it was a genuine favourite of mine for years. then i saw how brainrottingly stupid the fandom made it, and it’s now such a minefield to navigate that i’ve given up on the whole concept entirely. i’m sure there are good fans, but i’m in no mood to be dumpster diving.

idk why people take sonic characters ages so seriously when they vary so much in canon. like, i don’t really care if ppl are shipping a character who’s been portrayed As An Adult Multiple Times bc they’ve also been a child or teenager in some continuities. it’s literally such a non issue. there were official ages for a while yeah but that was specifically In The Game Continuity (and there’s like at least half a dozen sonic continuities) and they erased that bc it was not actually a rule they were following! sonic's age is vaguely 13-19ish depending on the story they want to tell and other characters ages scale off that and that’s about as exact as it gets. sorry i have seen some shit like. if they’re not explicitly depicting the characters as children i'm pretty sure random ship writers aren't writing them as having a creepy age gap or whatever the series is inconsistent as shit with character ages and always has been like ever since the official ages were dropped i thought we were over this but like. no i still see it happening. guys they’re literally just portraying the characters as adults Like They Are In Some Of The Many Continuities Of The Series please use some common sense. if we used old outdated official ages classic sonic is older than modern sonic and that’s very obviously not the case like it’s not even aging up most sonic characters have been portrayed as adults with the exact same designs as they have normally I see literally no reason people randomly assume fan artists they dislike are intentionally writing it to be paedophilic this is literally a problem that can be solved by asking. i thought we left this shit behind with that one series of videos where fans harassed a poor woman for shipping her persona with an adult sonic bc people forgot there’s like twenty different sonic continuities. literally it’s so stupid. like this used to happen to sonadow all the time and it was the dumbest fucking thing like use some common sense sonadow writers weren’t writing shadow as a 50 year old bc one he fucking isn’t he was in essentially a coma most of those years but two characters in this series have fucked up poorly defined ages my god.

No one else was writing an Eggman who was evil/competent/didn't get one-upped or killed off by another villain/didn't want to secretly fuck Sonic because villains can never be obsessed with killing the hero for any other reason according to the internet, so I pulled a Thanos and decided to just do it myself, and made it my mission to create the cruelest portrayal I could muster to spite those fics and then IDW and Frontiers... without losing his comedic edge, of course. (I'm sure there are good Eggman-utilizing fics out there, but good luck finding them in a sea of soft!Eggman fics, dead!Eggman fics, Sonamy fics, Sonally fics, Sonadow fics, high school fics, SA2 fics, Scourge fics, Eggdad fics, multiverse fics, fics where there's a villain team up but Eggman isn't included because the other villains consider him a joke...)

More seriously, it's as simple as wanting to pay tribute to a franchise that I love. Aside from my one-shots that helped me get some practice for writing the characters, I wanted to create an adventure that encompassed everything I value in a Sonic journey, be it from Classic, Adventure or Modern. Including but not limited to: overarching themes, visual storytelling, Eggman, zone aesthetics, creative Badniks, Eggman, superpower of teamwork, balanced tone, Eggman, subtext, characters being positively influenced by Sonic and/or his friends, Eggman, callbacks that are actually fun or have reason to exist beyond How Do You Do Fellow Fans, and Eggman.

As for Trudy, I was interested in trying my hand at an OC and whether I could make them as compelling as the official characters. Ever since the start, I was determined to shoot down the fandom overcorrection of OCs never interacting with the cast in any meaningful way lest they be accused of Sueism, and prove you can make OCs work with them if you try hard enough. Plus, since some games have a friend of the week who the story revolves around how Sonic impacts them, like Shahra in Secret Rings for example, I was eager to give that a try too.

So eventually, after writing out several concepts, I got this idea for a horse with a bouncy ponytail... Though Colony would be the one to bring her to life on paper (because I'm not an artist :<), the design was already fully thought out in my head, to the point where I was actually worried that I was being too demanding when I gave Colony my description, though she assured me that it helped her visualize it. Trudy's personality didn't take long to finalize either: I was already sick of modern female characters whose sole personality trait is "I'm a cunt, pls clap", and in addition to fighting back against the common claim that soft and kindhearted characters are inherently bad or Sueish, I also thought having a character like her would stand out in the Sonic cast, since a lot of the main regulars tend to have a prideful and/or temperamental side, albeit some more than others.

...And since British-accented characters in non-British works tend to be stereotyped as the snobby one, this time the British cast member (Viridonian cast member?) is the mellow one. :P

🍄 ⇢ share a head canon for one of your favourite ships or pairings

Not so much a headcanon since it's already in my fic, but despite Sonic's casual body language and lack of lovey dovey talk, Eggman quickly figures out that Sonic is getting the fee-fees for Trudy because he knows that look.

How does he recognize that look? Because he's seen it in the mirror hundreds of times over the years, so of course he would know it when he sees it.

(The joke is that EggmanXHimself is my favourite ship that doesn't involve Sonic and Toll Girls... which also applies to Trudy, since she's slightly taller than Sonic lolololol.)

🍅 ⇢ give yourself some constructive criticism on your own writing

I get so into scenery descriptions that I often have to cut them down into smaller pieces for pacing. I always have to remind myself that it's okay if the readers don't visualize every little detail of what's in my head... but I try to convey as much of it as I can all the same. XD

For character examples, I've got a couple of things I'd like to address. I apologise if a lot of this sounds like Channel Awesome "sorry you felt that way" handwaving, but the point is to show that I'm very much aware of how the following could possibly be divisive for some folk. Anyway, here goes:

First off, the recent talk about Shadow's dickish side has made me somewhat nervous about how I've chosen to portray him, since Stellar!Shadow is pretty lax for the most part. Granted, he doesn't have an excuse to fight Sonic here, and it's long after the events of SA2/ShtH/Battle/etc, so it can be said that he's slightly chilled out on Sonic's side of affairs since then. His general attitude remains the same as ever, and there's still some competitive banter between him and Sonic, but it's more amicable than the days of SA2, and on the whole, if stuff like IDW is anything to go by, I figured that Shadow fighting Sonic for debatably shoehorned reasons (depending on which game or adaptation we're talking about) is at risk of becoming equally as overbearing to Shadow's image as revolving everything around Maria's death.

That's not to say Shadow doesn't show an aggressive side at all... but in this case, it's directed at Eggman for using Gerald's memory as a front for his latest scheme... and that's before he learns other details of what the doctor has been up to this time.

Secondly, there was a lot of panicking over how to tackle Amy's stance on Sonudis. Obviously it makes sense that she'd initially be a little upset over Sonic feeling that way towards someone else, given how long she's been pining for him, but I want to make dead sure that it's played as sympathetically as possible instead of making her a yandere asshole, and I also wanted her to retain her upbeat persona and get something out of the experience instead of it being a downer ending for her so to speak. I know there's going to be someone out there who will take issue no matter what because "Sonic belongs to Amy!!!" (as if Sonic is anyone's property?), but I can only do my best, right?

Finally, since I mentioned one of my goals was to make the most monstrous Eggman I could while keeping him as his usual le funny eggperson self, naturally there have been times where I've wondered if I may have gone too far in a few places I've made it too in-your-face. In fairness to me, it's stylistically designed to be that way I've been very conscious about tonal progression in my fic, so at first there are only some subtle hints that Eggman's stooping to new lows beyond the usual on-brand dealings he does, and it's not until later on that the finer details of his true depravity become more apparent, culminating in... well, you'll have to wait and see how the endgame plays out. :] Like Shadow, there's some in-universe justification as well, since it's established that by this point in his life, Eggman is fucking sick of Sonic beating him all the time, and so he's giving the 120%, pulling out all the stops, and making absolutely sure that nothing goes out of his control. And it's not like it's just his cruelty that gets highlighted: his brilliance and insane determination get much focus as well.

Speaking of, I'm also conscious of the fact that some of the content relating to Eggman's darker actions might be considered stuff that you might not normally see in an official Sonic product, despite my known desire to make Stellar feel as official flavored as possible. But much like Sonudis, the idea is to tackle these elements with the mindset of "If this was in an official work, how might it play out? How would it be framed?" At the very least, I wouldn't say there's anything that goes so ridiculously far beyond the usual Sonic fare (like sexual activity, for a crude example), and you won't have to worry about zombot-tier misery porn where everyone just fails and sulks for a period that lasts longer than '06 loading screens.

🎮 First Game?

Classic Trilogy, Sonic has been in my life since my very first days before I ever dream in get invested in the fandom, so the 3~5 yo me played these games often along my sister around 2006~2008, I just am not sure if was in a Mega Drive that still was an outstanding model around my country or if was in a relaunch to PS1 or something like this 🤔 ... The things gets foggy from there 😅

Buuuuut also, when I got back to around the franchise around 2017, the first games I played were the Advance Trilogy around 2018 through emulator.

But the most solid and old memory I have around Sonic games was to playing the browser fangame Final Fantasy Sonic X there back in 2011~2012, with a lot of effort I managed to obliterate the True Guardian in the pt. 5 and Aeon in the pt. 6 😎

📉 Underrated Character?

I could easily get the entire list of the Post-SGW originals (Gold the Tenrec, Cassia & Clove the Pronghorn, Eclipse the Darkling, Relic the Pika, Maw the too complicated name to write so I should've pulled the etc sooner, so etc) But it's no use cry over spilled milk, right? 🥲

Then let's speak of the milk that wasn't spilled yet Silver the Hedgehog & Blaze the Cat.

To keep it short: Separately these two have lores that could expand the franchise's story and give us great stories going deeper and centering just around them, but Sega keep insisting in put them together as mere extra characters. 😤

😘 Favorite Ship

That is actually a simple one, but I like to make the things complicated... You can tell it as you notice the name of my first published fanfiction is "Mixed Universe"

I usually have no preferences around ships, if the fan content has good quality, develops characters and their relationship well, respect their canon traits and makes me see a charm in the ship I am enjoying it quite satisfied. I was not a ship person for quite a long time actually.

The only reason why I started to actively and purposely produce ship focused content was because...

Short response: Goldaze was the first ship I formed all by myself, without external influence, ignoring canon, so I realized they had no attention of the fandom but the solid 5 people who apparently agreed with me I could find. So I decided produce content of them by myself.

Long response: Well, I read all the info about Gold I could find in Evan Stanley's blog and thought "Hmmm, so Gold's type is quite Blaze the Cat 😏" So I thought for the first time ever "I wonder how the fandom used this information, what funny stories and cute fanarts they did? 🤔" And so I found like... TWO Discord meme drawings about it 😤 So I waited... And waited... And waited believing some more skilled fanfic writer in general would actually show interest and try to work with them... And in the best I got three more persons who agree with me sharing the "her type sounds like Blaze" opinion and still nothing, so when I found the Year of The OTP event I thought "you know what, this is the last straw, I will do it myself 😤" 😂😂 So now I guess I will focus in lesser known ships if I ever create other ship centric fics because I think they deserve more attention while more known ships like Sonamy, Silvaze, Espilver, Knuxouge or Sonadow, for example, already have a way more of people who genuinely enjoy produce about them 😉.

Looking back at my history with Sonic... it's so fucking surreal that I got to witness the births of 90% of this fandom's pairings.

I remember when Sonails used to be the absolute norm along side Sonally because most people were on the fence about whether Tails was a boy or not so they just defaulted to making him a girl. I still remember reading fanfics that referred to our little yellow menace as "she". This quickly got shut down though when Sega confirmed Tails as a "he". Sonails fell into obscurity because "GAY BAD" and it hasn't quite recovered from it... I dont think the people of today really want it to... but you can't really blame them. Nowadays it's hard to even imagine that Tails could've been mistaken for anything other than a dude. History is so fun lol.

I remember when Sonadow was invented. With the rising popularity in anime (specifically shounen anime), Shounen-Ai was creeping its way up there. Gay relationships were so goddamn taboo compared to nowadays but goddamnit if the taboo didn't capture your heart in some weird demented way- then I guess people got tired of the soft and fluffy "Shounen-Ai" and just wanted the gay porn, the "YAOI" and by god if Sonadow wasn't the most popular yaoi ship in existence... It still very much is but it's toned down in it's depraved raunchiness over the years. I still remember when it used to have like 5 names because people were so into trying to categorize it in the "Seme/Uke" fashion. Shadic/Shadonic/ShaSoni for Seme!Shadow and Uke!Sonic- which was and still very much is the most popular iteration of the ship, then you had SoniSha/Sonadow for the Seme!Sonic and Uke!Shadow version. Somewhere down the line, Westerners got too lazy to categorize and decided that "Sonadow" sounded the best because it rolls off the tongue nice and has a good mouth feel so it shall be the umbrella term for every iteration of Sonic x Shadow x Sonic. Sonadow has literally withstood the test of time for a whole 20 goddamn years and counting, if ANYTHING, yall HAVE to give this ship mad props for that. Not even Sonally can compare to that and Sonamy is a close second. I say Sonamy is a close second because it was never really enjoyed as Sonic and Amy being cute together (yes, like every ship, there are people who actually genuinely enjoyed it but the climate was the complete opposite). Sonamy was "enjoyed" because it was either better than Sonally or because it wasn't "gross gay yaoi shit" like Sonadow and other upcoming ships.

NEXT IS SONKNUX. It's always been an understated ship but it definitely became a little more popular when Sonadow got big because "MORE YAOI". I remember not having very strong feelings for the ship. I didn't hate it but I didn't care for it either, it was more like "yeah ok that makes sense if you're going to make it gay". It was never "OMG SO POPULAR" but it did have a following you had to acknowledge, like even the most delusional people couldn't deny this ship lol. There was also Knuxadow but at the time it was barely even a thing, it was an obscure rarepair but not so much anymore.

Now the go to for Knuckles ships was and still definitely is Knuxouge. God I remember all of the misogynistic flavored fan art and fan fics for this pairing- like, I get it. Rouge got nice curves, big ass, and fat tiddies while Knuckles got that big dick (which I'm going to say he doesn't because there's literally nothing there... there's nothing there except for smooth red fur... nothing-) and hypermasculinity. I get it. I loved this ship tho, there was more porn of it than genuine fan art and fan fics, but I mean yall get the picture. Im pretty sure yall can grasp the climate that surrounded this ship back in the day.

Knuxpio is also a ship but it was super obscure, like only deep divers got into it. I guess that still kinda rings true today because although there are definitely more people to appreciate it, it's still not on the public stage like alot of other ships. Same goes for Knuxighty and most other Knuckles ships.

CRAILS... TAILREAM... TAILS X CREAM. I am almost positive we still don't have a definitive ship name for these two but boy do I remember when these two little demons blew up. I used to like this ship because I thought it was super super adorable- like, here you have Sonic with all of these love interests but what about Tails? Tails should have a little someone of his own. In walks Cream in all of her adorable little bunny glory..... and Charmy too- BUT EVERYTHING WENT SO BAD SO FUCKING FAST. IT WAS NO LONGER CUTE. Welcome to the big popularity boom of shotacon and lolicon outside of Japan.

This post is already miles long so look out for a second one... probably... it's just so fun recalling the fruition of all of these ships and comparing some of them to how they're received today. Much nostalgia very punch to the gut~

Insipidly Dim-Witted Sanic (cause I refuse to call him a Sonic) is the kind of person you want to stay away from in RL. I know I've tossed the term 'sociopath' around already, but not without reason or to sound like I'm smart. I looked it up just to know for sure what it meant and what the traits are. And it's hard for me to separate what a sociopath does from abusers in RL in that they both utilize similar tactics on their 'friends.' Use their charm to lull victims into being their associates, then as soon as you give them trust or vulnerabilities, they'll use it to make themselves dominate over you. Even right down to belittling you but under the guise of being "helpful" or "just teasing."

The fact that I'm supposed to like or be okay with IDW Sanic acting like this towards his friends does nothing but unsettles me about some people. Like they either never dealt with such types, or did, but simply got beaten down by the mistreatment.

There is a reason I mentioned Bella Swan in my IDW Sonic post. Behold the power of Protagonist Centered Morality, that can turn any flat character into a disgusting person!

I don't want to diagnose fictional characters with real mental disorders, but IDW Sonic's behavior is infuriating if not creepy, and not because he's meant to be a deranged villain, it's because Flynn forced this "interesting moral dilemma" and then did nothing with it. "ohh but static characters can be flawed" yeah, Sonic in the games is cocky and impulsive and sometimes these flaws even kickstarted the plot, but they're usually not the linchpin of the plot! I'm not asked to think about it! Because if I think about it, the story falls apart! I don't care if Flynn pissed on my intelligence by saying "huehuehue read another book", shut up, you amateurish writer who wants to be praised without actually pulling the hard work.

But also, it's not even about that. Am I the only one who has realized that Sonic is an ineffectual hero? I can tell you exactly who Steven managed to reform in SU even if I haven't watched the show in years, can someone point to me one moment where Sonic mercy wasn't ignored, made fun of, or hasn't lead to disaster? Why would I want to root for a useless protagonist, knowing that he won't change, therefore looking like a giant, insensitive dumbass?

And what about Shadow and Espio? I've seen Sonadow accounts gush about their moments together, calling them their cute gays or whatever, quietly ignoring Sonic guilt tripping Shadow by making leverage on his trauma, or Shadow saying that Sonic deserved to be infected! I don't want to imply that fans are only in for the pretty pictures, but sometimes I have to wonder!

Sonic and Friends: Last of Us AU-Take on Me Scene

HEY! I know this a pretty big difference from what I usually post, but a person on tumblr, solar-socks, has recently made a Sonic the hedgehog Last of us 2 au that lots of people already enjoy. I know I love it. If you want, go check out their work on it and you’ll probably get more insight on how this is suddenly what I’m going to be posting for the next few days.

ANYWAY TO THE STORY SONADOW FANS WELCOME IF YOU AIN’T A FAN HATE AIN'T WELCOME

Sonic slightly furrowed his brow as his hands began to shake a little. He clenched them tightly, then opened them wide, repeating the process until they were steady. Sitting down on an overturned piece of broken pillar and settling the old thing in his arms, the blue hedgehog strummed a guitar he had found in one of the destroyed buildings. The room around him in general was overgrown with kudzu, almost covering up the windows.

He could sense every muscle in his body relaxing when he took a sit, his mind clearing enough to seem calm. It felt nice, just sitting there in the lowlight of the evening sun, not having to run for his life or to shoot someone or something down for the benefit of his own survival.

He strummed a few notes. “If I ever were to lose you…” he sang, biting his lip so he wouldn’t remember how that was the last time Tom had sung to him before he had been--

“What was that?” Sonic quickly looked up to see his partner, Shadow the Hedgehog, leaning against the doorway, eyes narrowed in curiosity, lip curled in amusement. He had his arms crossed over his chest as he tilted his head to the side, thinking how silly Sonic looked with a slack-jawed expression.

Sonic smacked his lips in hesitation, then shook his head, looked down at the guitar, and replied, “Nothing.”

“Hmm…Well, ‘nothing’ sure sounds nice.” While it was rare to get a compliment from Shadow, Sonic knew it was genuine and not a teasing comment. Over the past few years, they had become close, doing almost everything together, from patrols to eating to hanging out. The blue blur smiled softly, but it quickly vanished when Shadow stepped closer.

“Remember that night by the bonfire?” Sonic suddenly asked.

Shadow thought it was random, but just said, “Yeah.”

Sonic began strumming the guitar again, and Shadow recognized the song. He smiled as he bent down to sit on the floor next to his friend, who started to sing.

“Talking away, I don’t know what I’m to say…”

“I’ll say it anyway. Today’s another day to find you.”

“Shying away, I’ll be coming for your love, ok?”

“Take on me…Take me on…”

“I’ll be gone in a day or two.”

“Needless to say, of odds and ends, but I’ll be stumbling away…”

“Slowly learning that life is okay…”

“Say after me, it’s no better to be safe than sorry.”

“Take on me…take me on…”

“I’ll be gone in a day or two…in a day or two…”

Sonic let the last note fade out and turned to Shadow for a review. Shadow had a look of simple bliss on his face, contentment Sonic hadn’t seen in anyone for a long time. It was nice, and if playing the guitar and singing an old, cheesy song was what got Shadow smiling, he’d be glad to do it every day.

~ All right, how it works is simple. Submit an idea that you want to be given- try to make it something that could work over multiple mediums, like a ship or a certain character! Fan characters are fine, if that’s what you want. Then, say what you want to do for someone- if you can write, say you can write, and if you can make videos, say that!Give a list of things you’d be comfortable with/would like to do, and a list of things you aren’t comfortable with so you don’t get something you really don’t like. You’ll be given an assignment that you’d have fun doing, so it’ll end up nice! Please do submit your gift instead of putting it on your own blog, it helps me know who’s genuinely finished and makes it easier to keep all the gifts in one place. i feel like a lot of sonic fans just kinda ship whatever they want without like, yknow, googling the ages first. so let me give a list of the main sonic cast

sonic is 15 tails is 8 knuckles is 16

shadow was in stasis for 50 years but his body and mind are still 15. it’s weird to think about. rouge is 18 omega, we dont know, but he is a robot that doesnt act that much like a person and he doesn’t look too much like a person so idk what to say about him

amy is 12 cream is 6 big is 18

jet is 14 wave is 18 storm is 19

silver is 14 blaze is 14

vector is 20 espio is 16 charmy is 6

robotnik is an adult, but obviously much older than everyone else metal sonic is a robot but modeled after a 15-year-old so it’s best to treat him as if he’s 15

so, uhh, let’s take a look at the popular ships:

silver and blaze (0 years) is fine sonadow (0? years) is Probably Fine but im not sure because of the 50 years thing but this is what i meant when i said its weird to think about sonic and blaze (1 year) is fine

knuxouge (2 years) is a stretch to me but it is two years so i dunno. i personally find it a little weird but it’s hard to say for sure.

sonamy (3 years) is pretty weird shadouge (3 years) is pretty weird (these two are both probably bad but like, the least bad you can get while still being sus and weird. i tend to avoid people who ship these.)

and shipping eggman with anyone is just terrible what the fuck

and any larger age gaps than that are just bad no matter what. maybe if the characters were in their 30′s instead you could ship a lot more people with each other but at the ages they’re at now most of the ships are bad. the younger the characters, the fewer years there can be between their ages if you want to ship them.

oh and aging up characters is kinda weird and sus too just to let you know.
