‘Get off our backs and let us live’

Miss Major is still fighting for trans rights after 50 years of resistance

her latest project – a sanctuary for trans and gender-nonconforming people that she built on the property where she lives in the southern conservative state. She first called it House of GG, after her initials, but recently renamed it Tilifi, which stands for Telling It Like It Fuckin’ Is, something Miss Major is exceptionally good at doing. Next door to her house, connected by a path she painted bright yellow, is the Oasis, a guest home where she invites trans leaders and loved ones to stay, with a singular goal: to rest and relax. “I’ve gotta make joy here, because it doesn’t exist in the normal world,” says Miss Major … Visibility, she says, means the deaths of her people are now counted, but it doesn’t mean their lives are being saved and protected: “We got gay marriage, yay! But that doesn’t affect transgender people. The girls are being murdered more and more each year.” She rolls her eyes at the order of the LGBTQ+ acronym: “The T should be first. We’re integral.” … “They want us to live in the 1950s. No. Get off our fucking backs and let us live. They try to push us back – well, that means we gotta put the gloves on and fight again,” she says. “We have to get rid of the people in charge – the 70- and 80-year-olds who hold us down, who want to try to suppress us. You get rid of them, and we can build up, and move forward. People have to organize and get it together, and we also must vote.” She adds: “I know the world I would like to live in. It’s in my head, but I try my best to live it now.”

To most recent anon: No, he donates his own money on top of the charity merch funds. He adds the merch funds to the goal total on tilify and usually marks it as "pins" and then he donates his own money. We haven't raised 100k via charity merch ever and he's still donated that much in the streams himself.

I still think it’s really misleading for him to just donate x amount of money and say it’s his. YES technically it’s his because he earned it through merch BUT it’s still money from other people.

Okay, I might have phrased the ask weird. So, the deal with the charity stuff is this. To summarize: Every month there was a pin, livestream, and a donation link to tilify. But then one month he skipped the stream because he was going to be busy though he did still have the donation link so people could donate as well as buy the pin. But on november the only way to donate through him was to buy the pin. No stream no donation link. Basicly, he wanted us to save our money for decembers charity 1-2

2-2 cause it was going to be extra big (and cause of christmas). I feel like novembers charity got stiffed cause, if I did understand what he had said correctly, he didn't want us to donate to that one but to decembers cause the goal was twice as big. which, by the way, was beat by over 100,000. Sadly, I can't look at charity stuff right now without getting mildly annoyed...

Oh! Thank you for the clarification, love. So from what I understand, there was no stream nor donation link in November, and the only way to donate was to buy a pin, even though when he couldn’t stream during a previous month he still had a donation link. His reasoning behind November was that December’s charity was going to be bigger.

Yeah, I’ve got to agree with you there. That’s not how charities should be treated. If you’re going to promote charities, you’ve got to promote them equally, and if you don’t have time to stream (which is fine if you don’t, you’re human), at least have the donation link! Calling another charity livestream bigger does end up hurting the other charities.
