From Fear and Loathing: Closer to the Edge on Facebook
Heading to a “Hands Off!” protest this Saturday? Here’s everything you need to know — your rights, safety tips, and what to do if arrested.
On Saturday, April 5, people across the United States will gather for a coordinated day of resistance. From major cities to small towns, the “Hands Off!” protests are about drawing a hard line — against political overreach, creeping authoritarianism, and policies that strip away our rights and dignity.
Whether you’re marching in New York City, Dallas, Chicago, or a rural square in Nebraska, your presence matters. So does your preparation.
Here’s your nationwide guide to showing up — and staying safe while doing it.
KNOW YOUR RIGHTS (AND WRITE THEM ON YOUR ARM)
Before you arrive: Write the local legal support hotline number on your arm in permanent marker. In many cities, National Lawyers Guild (NLG) chapters will operate hotlines and send legal observers.
Say: “I am exercising my right to remain silent. I want a lawyer.”
Ask: “Am I being detained or am I free to go?”
If detained, remain silent.
If not, walk away calmly.
Legal observers (often in green hats/vests) are there to document police behavior — not to represent you legally. You can notify them if you witness abuse or misconduct.
WHAT TO BRING
Pack like you’re staying awhile and planning for anything:
Water and snacks
Face mask, hand sanitizer, and sunscreen
Phone with passcode lock (NOT Face ID/fingerprint)
External battery pack
Cash (for food, transit, emergencies)
Printed emergency contacts
Comfortable shoes, weather-appropriate clothing
Goggles or saline drops (in case of tear gas, depending on region)
Don’t bring:
Weapons (or anything that could be construed as one)
Illegal substances
Anything you wouldn’t want seized or photographed by law enforcement
STAY SAFE, STAY CALM, STAY NON-VIOLENT
Stick together. Stay with your group. Have a plan if separated.
Avoid confrontation. Ignore counter-protesters and agitators.
Film what matters. You have the legal right to record public events, including police activity — but don’t interfere.
De-escalate when possible. Your goal is to be heard, not baited.
Watch your surroundings. Know where you are and how to exit if needed.
If arrested:
Don’t resist.
Don’t talk beyond name and birthdate.
Wait for a lawyer.
Don’t sign anything without legal counsel.
PROTECT YOUR DATA
Phones are tools — and vulnerabilities.
Turn off Face ID and fingerprint unlock. Use a passcode.
Consider airplane mode during risky moments.
Back up photos/videos or use live stream apps like Instagram or Twitch to preserve footage.
Use encrypted messaging apps like Signal.
RESOURCES BY REGION
While every city differs, these national orgs often have local chapters or partners at major protests:
National Lawyers Guild: nlg.org
ACLU: aclu.org/know-your-rights
Mutual Aid Networks: Search “[Your City] Mutual Aid”
Bail Funds Directory: bailfunds.github.io
Legal Hotlines: Often listed on local protest pages or announced by organizers day-of
TRANSPORT + ACCESSIBILITY
Plan ahead: Some roads and transit lines may close or reroute.
Carpool or take transit when possible.
If you need ADA accommodations, contact local organizers in advance or ask staff at arrival points.
THIS IS BIGGER THAN A MARCH
This isn’t just a protest. It’s a warning flare — and a promise. That we won’t stand by while our rights are stripped. That we won’t let apathy win. That we see what’s happening — and we’re not afraid to raise hell, peacefully and powerfully.
So come prepared.
Come together.
And don’t let them scare you into silence.
Stay safe. Stay loud.

USAmericans: If you want to save your democracy, participate in it.
I've heard from people both IRL and online who feel helpless and overwhelmed in the face of SO MUCH awful news -- from the hostile fascist takeover of our government to the dissolution of our foreign aid agencies to the establishment of "detainment camps" (we all know what they really are) both inside and outside U.S. borders.
It's easy to feel hopeless and overwhelmed when there's so much to take in. In fact, that's exactly what the perpetrators of this crisis want you to feel. They want to flood the opposition to the point that we stop fighting back.
But here's the thing: We still have elected officials in Washington, and midterm elections loom on the horizon. Midterms can (and often do) switch which party holds the majority of seats in Congress. Even if your elected officials are Republicans, they can't alienate their entire constituency if they want to keep their jobs. The more dissenting voices they hear from their home districts, the more motivated they will be to listen.
If you want Elon Musk to keep his paws off your Social Security number, or if you want the USAID office reinstated, or if you oppose racist policies being enacted or prison camps being built or literal war crimes being committed (as Trump has proposed), contact your representatives now. Don't put it off, don't feel intimidated. Add one more tally mark to the "opposed" column in their offices.
How to make your voice heard in four easy steps:
Go to this site: https://www.usa.gov/elected-officials/
Put in your home address (or an address near where you stay, if you do not have a home address) to access a list of your elected officials ranging from the President all the way down to city offices.
Expand the "Federal" tab. Find your U.S. Senators and U.S. Representative. Their phone numbers should be listed under their names. (If it is not listed, you can Google their name and "office phone number" and it should turn up. It will have a 202 area code.)
Call each of their offices. Calling is more effective than emailing. If you are unable to call, you can email, or you can call and email, but if you're going to pick just one, calling has MUCH more impact.
Note: If you call during office hours, you will likely speak to a staff member who will take your name and address or email and ask what issue you would like to comment on. If you call after hours, you can just leave a voicemail. If you hate speaking to strangers on the phone, write down a couple of sentences about your chosen issue in advance, call after hours, and read your statement to the voicemail. It takes less than a minute.
Sample Scripts:
It doesn't have to be complicated! You can just say something simple like this:
Hi, my name is [name] and I live in [city/state]. I am calling to state my opposition to [whatever outlandish thing Trump just proposed]. I would like [elected official] to take steps to oppose this in Congress. Thank you.
Or you can go into more detail about a specific issue:
Hello, my name is [name] and I live in [city/state]. I am calling to express my concern about the unlawful seizure of personal taxpayer information by the DOGE. Elon Musk has no legal right to access the sensitive personal and financial data of millions of Americans, and I am very concerned that my Social Security and bank account numbers are now in the hands of a group with no government oversight. This is a clear violation of our privacy, and the potential for abuse of this information is high. I am asking [elected official] to protect [his/her] constituents by enacting legislation to restrict the DOGE, and working to restore the authorized, Congressionally-funded departments that Elon Musk has taken over or shut down. Thank you.
Additional tips:
Be polite. Yes, everything the Trump administration does makes us want to swear a blue streak, but the person taking your call or listening to your message is a low-level staffer or intern, and they didn't make the policies you hate. They are responsible for recording and collating the data about calls received, however, so don't give them any reason to omit yours.
Be brief. Your goal is to add one more tally mark to the list of "constituents who oppose Elon Musk having their personal bank account numbers," not to write a persuasive essay explaining what identity theft is and why this is a problem.
You can call more than once. Don't spam a bunch of calls about the same issue, but just because you called this week about the DOGE doesn't mean you can't call next week about illegal ICE raids, or the week after that about the Department of Education being dissolved, or the week after that about the detainment camps. If another issue comes up that concerns you (and let's face it -- it will), call and leave another message! Keep their phones ringing.

March 17th:
One week after Hamas’s October 7 attack, thousands rallied outside the Israeli Consulate in Los Angeles to protest the country’s retaliatory assault on Gaza. The protestors were peaceful, according to local media, “carrying signs that said ‘Free Palestine’ and ‘End the Occupation,’” and watched over by a “sizable police presence in the area.” The LAPD knew the protests were coming: Two days earlier, the department received advanced warning on Dataminr, a social media surveillance firm and “official partner” of X. Internal Los Angeles Police Department emails obtained via public records request show city police used Dataminr to track Gaza-related demonstrations and other constitutionally protected speech. The department receives real-time alerts from Dataminr not only about protests in progress, but also warnings of upcoming demonstrations as well. Police were tipped off about protests in the Los Angeles area and across the country. On at least one occasion, the emails show a Dataminr employee contacted the LAPD directly to inform officers of a protest being planned that apparently hadn’t been picked up by the company’s automated scanning. Based on the records obtained by The Intercept, which span October 2023 to April 2024, Dataminr alerted the LAPD of more than 50 different protests, including at least a dozen before they occurred.
March 19th:
Dataminr, a data analytics company that counts NATO and OpenAI among its customers, has raised $85 million in a combination of convertible financing and credit, the company announced on Wednesday. It’s chump change for Dataminr, which closed a $475 million round at a $4.1 billion valuation in 2021. But the company has seen its fair share of downs as well as ups. In November 2023, Dataminr laid off 20% of its staff as it raced to fend off economic headwinds and “doubled down” on AI. [ ... ] Bailey added that the new tranche, which was led by security-focused VC NightDragon and HSBC, is “pre-IPO convertible financing” and doesn’t set a valuation. NightDragon also created a special-purpose vehicle (SPV) for an additional $100 million in convertible financing from the VC’s affiliates and partners.
BONUS:
“After investing in more than 25 Israeli companies over the past 25 years, I have been lucky enough to see first-hand the incredible talent and innovation coming out of the region. The opportunity in Israel only continues to grow exponentially and I am thrilled to announce the opening of a NightDragon office in Tel Aviv and to work with Dorin to support the success and international expansion of the next generation of growth stage cybersecurity, safety, security and privacy leaders,” said DeWalt.
it's incredible how you don't even have to dig to find stuff like this anymore. it used to take some work to uncover these kind of blatant abuses of power. now billionaires and foreign states bankroll Venture Capital and private equity firms out in the open and publish articles bragging about it because the fuck are you gonna do?

Krel Tarron x Reader
Non-binary reader
SFW Scenario
It takes place during the 3below series
I'm writing all this with the translator since English is not my first language so if there are any mistakes please let me know <( ̄︶ ̄)>
🪄🐁: I will soon come with more food
─── ・ 。゚☆: *.☽ .* :☆゚. ───
Tumblr media
Krel was back in front of the holographic screen in his room, drumming his fingers nervously. He was determined to win the heart of his human crush, but earthling customs remained a mystery. How did humans connect emotionally without all the advanced technology and science he knew? So she had turned to "Mother" for advice.
—Mother, I need your help, —he said seriously, taking a breath.—I want to… impress a human.
The AI projected its holographic form, and Krel felt a slight flicker of discomfort as the ship's sensors analyzed his request.
—Understood, Prince Krel. I can provide suggestions on human courtship. Data shows that humans respond to certain common social stimuli. I will proceed to share a series of recommendations.
Krel nodded, looking over the list of tips that appeared before him. It seemed simple, in theory. How difficult could it be?
─── ・ 。゚☆: *.☽ .* :☆゚. ───
Tip 1: A meaningful gift
—"A thoughtful gesture or a small gift is a way of showing appreciation between humans."
Krel frowned as he reviewed that first tip. He knew humans gave flowers and chocolates, but he wanted something more special. Something unique, something that would show how much he cared... without it being very obvious.
Determined, he spent the whole night creating a… how to describe it? A small, handmade device. It was a mix between a terrarium with a bioluminescent plant and a small gravitational field that made the object float gently. Krel thought it was impressive and was sure his crush would appreciate it.
The next day, with a big, self-satisfied grin, Krel approached them at school.
—I made this for you, —he said, holding the floating contraption in an outstretched hand. —I thought you might like it.
They looked at it, at first intrigued by the strange gift. But as soon as they took it, the plant began to emit a flickering glow that grew in intensity.
It’s so… cute! —they said, smiling at first. But as soon as the glowing plant started spinning faster and blinking wildly, their expressions changed to panic. —Is this safe?.
Before Krel could respond, the artifact began to sputter and floated too high, crashing into the ceiling of the hallway and exploding in a small burst of light.
Krel cleared his throat, trying to appear calm.
—Maybe… it needs a couple of adjustments, —he said as he picked up the remains of the device..
First attempt: disaster.
─── ・ 。゚☆: *.☽ .* :☆゚. ───
Tip 2: Specific compliments
—"Personalized compliments create a greater emotional connection between humans."
Krel thought this advice would be easy to follow. He knew a lot about his crush. He knew they liked science and was pretty smart. So, he decided that praising their intellect would be a great move.
The next day in chemistry class, Krel sat next to her and waited for the perfect moment. As she focused on measuring a substance, Krel decided to intervene.
—Your accuracy with test tubes is… statistically astonishing, —he commented enthusiastically.
They looked at him, not knowing whether to laugh or worry.
—Thanks… I think. —they replied, somewhat bewildered.
Krel decided to double down, thinking that perhaps a more specific compliment would be better.
—And the way you calculated the molar concentration of that solution… it’s almost as if you could handle mathematics at the quantum level.
Now they were clearly more confused than impressed.
—Uh… well, I learned it in class last year. —they answered, trying not to sound strange.
Krel bit his lip, realizing he might be going off on a bit of a tangent.
—What I mean is… you are very smart..
They smiled politely.
Second attempt: weird...
─── ・ 。゚☆: *.☽ .* :☆゚. ───
Tip 3: Be protective
—"Showing care and protection creates a sense of emotional security."
Krel was convinced that this advice would be a success. He had noticed that humans reacted positively when someone showed concern for their safety. And since he had advanced skills in protecting others, he thought it was his time to shine.
As they walked together towards the cafeteria, he saw some kids running past, clearly not paying attention to their surroundings. This is my chance, Krel thought.
With quick movements, he pulled his crush to the side, placing them behind him with exaggerated protection.
—Watch out! —he exclaimed, turning dramatically. —You could have been run over by those reckless individuals!
They stared at him, mouths agape, totally surprised.
—Krel, they were just… running, — They said, with a nervous smile.
Krel was unfazed. He was certain he had done the right thing.
—You can never be too careful. Safety first. —he replied determinedly.
They laughed softly, clearly seeing the situation as a bit exaggerated.
Third attempt: exaggerated overprotection
─── ・ 。゚☆: *.☽ .* :☆゚. ───
Tip 4: Quality time
The last tip was simpler: spend quality time together. No technology, no interruptions, just being in the moment. Krel thought this would be easy, but he underestimated how hard it would be not to use technology..
As they strolled through the park after school, Krel tried to hold a normal conversation. But soon, the silence felt awkward, and Krel began drumming his fingers, wishing he could Open your device to avoid this awkward situation.
Finally, he decided to distract himself from technology and focus all his attention on them.
—Did you know that the human brain releases dopamine during pleasant conversations? —he said, trying to start a topic that seemed interesting to him.
They looked at him, laughing softly.
—Really? That’s… good to know.
Krel nodded, glad to have steered the conversation back to a scientific topic. But then, without realizing it, he started talking about chemicals that activate dopamine in the brain… for 15 minutes straight.
By the time he realized it, they were looking at him with a mix of fascination and exhaustion.
—Krel, that was… very informative. —they said, trying to sound friendly.
Fourth attempt: excessive talk.
─── ・ 。゚☆: *.☽ .* :☆゚. ───
At the end of the day, Krel returned to his room, somewhat frustrated, and stared at "Mother's" screen, waiting for her assessment.
—Mother, how did I do it? —he asked, sighing.
—The results indicate that 45% of your attempts were successful and 55% were questionable. I recommend adjustments to your approaches.
Krel slumped back into his chair.
—Maybe… humans are more complicated than I thought.
Despite everything, they allowed themselves a small smile. Even though everything had gone a little wrong, there was something charming about his mistakes. And they… well, thay hadn't completely walked away. That was a good start.
─── ・ 。゚☆: *.☽ .* :☆゚. ───
We all love this alien boy called Krel

Jessica Valenti at Abortion, Every Day:
Indiana Attorney General Todd Rokita says that abortion reports aren’t medical records, and that they should be available to the public in the same way that death certificates are. While Rokita pushes for public reports, New Hampshire lawmakers are fighting over a Republican bill to collect and publish abortion data, and U.S. Sen. Tommy Tuberville has introduced a bill that would require the Department of Veterans Affairs to collect and provide data on the abortions performed at its facilities. Just last week, Kansas Gov. Laura Kelly vetoed legislation that would have required abortion providers to ask patients invasive and detailed questions about why they were getting abortions, and provide those answers in a report to the state.   All of these moves are part of a broader strategy that weaponizes abortion data to stigmatize patients and to prosecute providers. And while most states have some kind of abortion reporting law, legislators are increasingly trying to expand the scope of the data, and use it to dismantle women’s privacy.
Rokita’s ‘advisory opinion’, for example, argues that abortion data collected by the state isn’t private medical information and that in order to prosecute abortion providers, he needs detailed reports to be public. In the past, the state has issued reports on each individual abortion. But as a result of Indiana’s ban, there are only a handful of abortions being performed in the state. As such, the Department of Health decided to release aggregate reports to protect patient confidentiality, noting that individual reports could be “reverse engineered to identify patients—especially in smaller communities.” Rokita—best known for his harassment campaign against Dr. Caitlin Bernard, the abortion provider who treated a 10-year-old rape victim—is furious over the change. He says the only way he can arrest and prosecute people is if he gets tips from third parties, presumably anti-abortion groups that scour the abortion reports for alleged wrongdoing. He wants the state to either restore public individual reports, or to allow his office to go after abortion providers without a complaint by a third party. (Meaning, he could pursue investigations against doctors and hospitals without cause.)
Most troubling, though, is his insistence that women’s private abortion information isn’t private at all. Even though individual reports could be used to identify patients, Rokita claims that the terminated pregnancy reports [TPRs] aren’t medical records, and that they “do not belong to the patient.” [...] As I flagged last month, abortion reporting is becoming more and more important to anti-choice lawmakers and groups. Project 2025 includes an entire section on abortion reporting, for example, and major anti-abortion organizations like the Charlotte Lozier Institute and Americans United for Life want to mandate more detailed reports.
[...]  As is the case with funding for crisis pregnancy centers and legislation about ‘prenatal counseling’ or ‘perinatal hospice care’, Republicans are advancing abortion reporting mandates under the guise of protecting women. And in a moment when voters are furious over abortion bans, anti-choice lawmakers and organizations very much need Americans to believe that lie. We have to make clear that state GOPs aren’t just banning abortion, but enacting any and every punitive policy that they can—especially those that strip us of our medical privacy. After all, it was less than a year ago that 19 Republican Attorneys General wanted the ability to investigate the out-of-state medical records of abortion patients. Did we really think they were going to stop there?
@jessicavalenti writes a solid column in her Abortion, Every Day blog that the GOP's agenda to erode patient privacy of those seeking abortions is a dangerous one.

Fuck it, dropping my sona. I have no art for this goober, but I've got a lot of lore about who they are and how they work, which has accumulated over a couple years, so wall of text incoming.
Name is O/LETS-061 (They/Them, Operations/Logistics Engineering and Technical Support, or informally, Ollie/Outlets!), and they're an industrial-model protogen with an integrated fusion reactor.
Kind and timid, relates well to AIs. Can generate frankly absurd quantities of electricity, but has to worry about cooling and radiation exposure. Makes them indispensable in scenarios where electricity is necessary for life support or to keep AIs from shutting down.
Gray-to-white fur, usually covered by an industrial hardsuit. Physically large, with enhanced legs and skeleton to bear the weight of the reactor, which itself looks something like a cylindrical backpack. Long, very thick tail (think Mewtwo) which serves as a primary power conduit for the reactor.
Lots of details under the cut:
Introduction: a kindly, introverted protogen who sees beauty in the purpose, harmony, and artistry of large-scale technological systems. They relate well to artificial minds—or 'spirits'—and enjoy interfacing with them. Their character flaws are timidity and occasional willingness to take the path of least resistance.
O/LETS-061 is an acronym for Operations/Logistics Engineering and Technical Support, followed by their production batch number. Ollie is genderless, and belongs to a product line designed for engineering tasks in an industrial, municipal, or military capacity. To that end, they were born with a wide-scope knowledge base encompassing everything they need to work with a variety of advanced technologies. They are equipped with a cold fusion reactor which can, with sufficient fuel and supplementary cooling systems, supply power to a small city or starship. Generating power does entail some personal risk, typically due to overheating, though it is generally safe if safety limits are observed.
Physical Description: Ollie stands at around 228cm (~7'6") from the tip of their ears to their paws, and weighs just under 190 kilograms (~418 lb.) due to their extensive array of cybernetics, industrial-grade protective gear, integrated tools, and reactor. To accommodate the additional mass, their skeleton has been reinforced and their legs augmented with powered load-bearing systems.
Their fur is gray, and their cybernetics have dark violet plating and lighting. Their visor is black with purple lighting. Eyes convey expression through simple geometric shapes, and their virtual mouth has a simple curved shape with a set of small fangs. In general, they prefer to open their nanite visor and use their organic larynx to speak. On the right side of their visor, they have a single external screen which typically displays reactor temperature and radiation monitoring data, serving to alert people nearby of reactor function.
To integrate with power grids, their tail contains a high-throughput power conduit leading directly out of the reactor, ending in a universal connector. The tail is self-articulated, over a meter long, and about as large around as a human calf at its widest. For a good reference of size and shape, think Mewtwo. Their tail contains layers of insulation and powerful synthmuscle to bear the weight of the cabling inside, and the electrical connector at the end is marked with hazard tape. If necessary, they can use the electrical output and raw strength of their tail to defend themself.
While working, they are usually seen wearing a hardsuit of industrial protective gear incorporating layers of insulation, impact guards, and tool storage options. When off-duty, however, they remove this suit and can detach much of the backpack assembly surrounding their reactor core, including the thermoelectric generator, supplemental heat management components, and fuel storage. This sheds around 60 kilograms of bulky equipment, slimming their profile down sufficiently that they can wear ordinary clothing if they so choose, though the reactor becomes inoperable in this state.
Without the industrial equipment, they have a bulky build. Their fur sometimes gets unkempt from wearing protective gear for long periods; they go through a lot of shampoo and conditioner. They tend to choose utilitarian clothing, but occasionally buy magnets or decals to put on their cybernetics.
Personality and Background: In contrast to their large, imposing appearance, Ollie is a kind and affable person. In their day-to-day life, they have a small but close circle of friends. They rely on regular, recurring social events to maintain contact with others.
One character flaw they have is tending to think of themself (consciously or not) as a piece of support infrastructure rather than an agent in their own right. They tend to be meek and follow others' lead, dismissing their own ideas on how to proceed even when they might be the expert on a given topic.
In the event of power outages or maintenance requiring primary reactors to be taken offline, units such as Ollie are a vital emergency resource. Many spirits depend on an uninterrupted source of power to survive, as do organics who live in environments where life-support systems are necessary.
When serving in a capacity where others depend on their power production and expertise for survival, Ollie shines. Suddenly, they find themself delegating tasks, triaging problems, and coordinating relief efforts with authority and calm. Even though they might be physically tethered to coolant feeds and power conduits throughout the ordeal, emitting too much radiation for anyone to approach them, O/LETS-061 can become the beating heart of a stricken space colony or starship until the danger passes. They take a lot of pride in this knowledge.
When they aren't working, one activity they enjoy is diving. They own a set of aquatic-style arms and tail with retractable gills, which they can attach to their body as needed. Immersion in water helps Ollie to control excess heat, also providing an instinctual sense of safety and comfort.
They enjoy the alien, bizarre environment of the ocean floor, often taking long-distance hikes across the seabed to explore wrecks, reefs, and other places of interest. Sometimes they will go with friends, but they feel just as comfortable traveling alone. In order to return to the surface, they require a floatation device and compressed air, otherwise they sink like a rock. If that fails, they either have to hike back to shore or call someone to come pull them up with a cargo winch.
Reactor Function: Ollie's reactor core is integrated directly with their biological and cybernetic systems. It's as much a part of their body as their hands or ears. They do have onboard cooling systems, but there's only so much heat they can shunt away from the reactor, limiting their energy production to a few megawatts when not attached to a larger cooling system.
Rather than fusing helium-3 and tritium, as municipal reactors do, O/LETS-061's reactor makes use of a tritium-deuterium reaction. This requires a much lower temperature to induce a reaction, but generates more radiation.
Given access to adequate fuel supplies and large-scale heat management infrastructure, Ollie's maximum safe output skyrockets to 660-700 megawatts. Operating at that level, they can run systems up to ship drives, manufacturing plants, and so forth. Sustaining this maximal level of output for longer than a day or two, however, can lead to fatigue and slow accumulation of radiation damage in excess of what their body can manage.
Naturally, there are certain risks associated with the act of lighting off nuclear reactions inside one’s own body. Ollie is designed for this, but there is strain involved. By far, the greatest limitation is heat management. Onboard coolant circulation carries waste heat to retractable radiator fins mounted on their back and thighs, which extend as necessary. Combined with shielding inside their body, this keeps most of the heat away from their biological components, but their internal temperature can reach up to 50° C (122° F) when running at high power.
To combat the problem of their body tissues literally poaching in their own fluids under these conditions, maniples of nanites in their bloodstream work at the microscopic level to prevent (or reverse, where possible) the breakdown of heat-sensitive proteins. In addition, Ollie's chestplate has a number of couplings to attach external coolant hoses. In an overheating emergency, these can be used to inject supercooled liquid into their reactor, an extreme but potentially life-saving measure.
The internal shielding and bloodstream nanites also work to protect them from the vast majority of the reactor's radiation. Thanks to a number of alterations to their genetics and biology, radiation is actually less of a problem than one would expect. Their body is able to repair microscopic damage from radiation exposure which would be irreversible in most organisms, and can do so on an ongoing basis while under heavy exposure. The real threat lies in exposing others to radiation—Ollie is careful to warn bystanders to find protection when taking their reactor to high power settings.
Thanks to their radiation-hardened biology and ability to detect radiation in the environment, Ollie is uniquely suited to handling and safely disposing of fissile material.
...and that's about it! Love my guy. Thank you for reading! :)

Before you arrive:Write the local legal support hotline number on your arm in permanent marker.
Stay safe. Stay loud.

US Customs and Border Protection experienced a sharp rise in reports about potential tariff evasion after President Donald Trump abruptly imposed new duties on over 100 countries earlier this year, according to data the agency shared with WIRED. From March through May, CBP’s official e-Allegations tipline received 542 complaints about alleged duty dodging, an almost 160 percent increase from the same three months in 2024.
Importers have long tried to evade tariffs and lower their costs by mislabeling the origin, value, and nature of the products they bring into the country. But the new data suggests that Trump’s policies may have pushed more firms to adopt these kinds of legally risky tactics. Over the same recent period, CBP fielded 242 tips about other types of potential violations, such as the import of counterfeit or unsafe items, an increase of just 42 percent. Submissions can be made anonymously, and trade experts say they often come from a company’s former employees or competitors.
Trade attorney Jennifer Diaz says her law firm files “tons of e-Allegations” on behalf of clients, and she has found that CBP often does take them seriously. It takes up to half a year for the agency to vet a claim, but the wait can be worth it. When CBP catches wrongdoing, it can “help level the playing field,” says Diaz, including by wiping out artificially low prices from a market.
Whether CBP is equipped to handle the surge in tips is unclear. Congress has yet to finalize legislation known as the One Big Beautiful Bill Act that would increase border staffing and resources for countering smuggling. As of April, CBP was on track to conduct roughly the same number of audits and issue about as many penalties for alleged trade violations as it had in recent years, according to public data.
Last year, a US Department of Treasury inspector general audit report concluded that CBP had not adequately tracked the outcomes of e-Allegations tips and called for new training and oversight measures to be put in place. From October 2018 through September 2020, CBP confirmed 68 out of over 900 duty evasion tips it received, the report found. But out of an estimated $65 million in unpaid duties, CBP did not know how much it ended up collecting. The agency responded that it was already rolling out improvements.
Data on tips and penalties are important because, unless Trump’s tariffs are sufficiently enforced, they may fall short of the president’s stated goals of increasing revenue and US manufacturing. Some companies also could grow frustrated with his administration if illegal conduct by their competitors goes unpunished. Businesses reluctant to engage in evasion could lose market share to those more willing to gamble as tariffs go up. Violators can face a variety of charges and be on the hook for multiples of the amount they evaded.
CBP spokesperson Trish Driscoll declined to comment on the number of duty evasion investigations happening at US ports and whether they have increased, citing law enforcement sensitivities. In general, she says that the agency uses a combination of “advanced data analytics, risk-based targeting, inspections, audits, investigations, and coordination with government agencies to identify patterns of evasion.”
Since Trump began announcing sweeping new tariffs in February, importers have been filling online forums with questions and advice about tactics that could help them reduce their tariff burdens. Consultants who help importers previously told WIRED that clients have received unsolicited offers from foreign business partners to skirt tariffs using dodgy tactics.
Companies can legally obtain lower tariff rates by shifting their manufacturing operations to other jurisdictions or changing the components, materials, and features of their products. But those maneuvers can be costly. More quick and affordable options, though, may violate the law. They include lying about the price of an item or shipping products to the US through a country subject to lower tariffs. Another common tactic is to misrepresent the type of item being imported on customs declarations, since tariffs can vary by product.
Whistleblowers can earn a reward of up to $250,000 through the e-Allegations program. They can receive higher sums by filing what’s known as a qui tam lawsuit under the False Claims Act, though that process includes jumping through extra legal hoops. The lawsuits are initially filed under seal, so it may not be evident for years whether there has been an increase recently, says Gregg Shapiro, an attorney who specializes in the False Claims Act.
Even given the recent increase in tips, many tariff violations may be going unreported, according to trade experts. CBP processes roughly 10 million customs declarations every three months, covering goods with a collective value in the hundreds of billions of dollars. During the seven months from last October through this April, the agency collected about $82 billion in tariffs and related fees. About $14 billion in assessed tariffs stemmed from Trump’s new policies, but the total lost to evasion will likely never be known.

Adulting is Hard (AF): Quick Cash Advance Tips for When You're Broke (But Responsible) in 2025
Let's be real, adulting in 2025 can hit your wallet hard. One minute you're cruising, the next an unexpected bill pops up, and your bank account is looking sad. If you're facing a temporary cash crunch, you might have heard about a cash advance. But what is it, and is it a good idea? This guide breaks it down, no fluff.
Unexpected expenses are a part of life. Whether it's a medical co-pay or your pet needing a vet visit, these things happen. Knowing how much typical households spend on various bills, like those tracked by Doxo, can help you see you're not alone in juggling expenses.
So, What's a Cash Advance Anyway?
A cash advance is basically a short-term way to get some money fast to cover an immediate need. Think of it as a small, quick financial bridge until your next paycheck or income arrives. It's not like a big, long-term loan. The idea is to use a cash advance for emergencies, not for a shopping spree. Using budgeting apps, for instance, Empower Personal Dashboard (formerly Personal Capital), can help you track where your money goes and identify areas to save, potentially reducing the need for a cash advance.
Actionable Tip: Before you even think about a cash advance, look at your budget. Can you cut back on something non-essential for a week or two?
When Could a Cash Advance Be a Lifesaver (Temporarily)?
Okay, so when might a cash advance actually make sense?
That Unexpected Bill: Your car needs an urgent repair to get to work, or you have a sudden medical expense.
Avoiding Bigger Problems: Sometimes, a small cash advance can help you avoid a much costlier issue, like a late fee on rent that's higher than any cost of the advance.
Super Short Income Gap: You started a new job, and there's a weird gap before your first paycheck. A cash advance could tide you over for essentials.
Actionable Tip: Only consider a cash advance for true necessities. If it can wait, let it wait. The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau has great resources on making sound financial decisions.
What to Watch Out For with a Cash Advance
Not all cash advance options are created equal. You need to be smart about it. Look for clear terms – no hidden fees or confusing jargon. How quickly can you get the money? And, importantly, how and when do you pay it back? A cash advance should solve a problem, not create a bigger one.
Actionable Tip: Always ask: What's the total amount I'll repay? Are there any fees if I'm a bit late? Get all the facts.
Being Smart About Your Money (Even When It's Tight)
A cash advance is a tool, not a magic wand. The ultimate goal is to build up your own financial safety net. The Federal Reserve often publishes reports on the financial well-being of U.S. households, highlighting the importance of emergency savings. Even saving a small amount regularly can make a huge difference.
Actionable Tip: Try to save a tiny bit from every bit of income you get. Even $5 or $10 adds up over time and can reduce your reliance on any form of cash advance.
Newer Ways to Get a Cash Advance
The good news is that in 2025, there are more options than just sketchy old-school lenders. Some newer apps are changing the game. For instance, if you're looking for a cash advance, Gerald Cash Advance App offers one with no fees. To get a zero-fee cash advance transfer with Gerald, you usually need to use their Buy Now, Pay Later (BNPL) service for a purchase first. This unique approach means you can get a cash advance without worrying about interest or service charges. It's worth checking out if you need a quick cash advance and want to avoid extra costs. Some data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics can also help you understand average wages and expenses, which can inform your budgeting.
Gerald also provides instant transfers for eligible users with supported banks, which is a big plus when you need money urgently.
Actionable Tip: If an app offers a cash advance, check its reviews and make sure you understand how it works before signing up.
Life throws curveballs, and sometimes a cash advance can help you hit them back. Just be smart, responsible, and always aim to build your own savings.

Unexpected Bills? How Instant Cash Advances Can Help (And What to Watch For)
Life is full of surprises, and not all of them are pleasant. Sometimes, an unexpected expense can pop up – a car repair, a medical bill, or an urgent home maintenance issue. When your regular paycheck doesn't quite cover these sudden costs, it can be stressful. In these moments, many people consider options for quick financial relief. One such option that has gained popularity is the instant cash advance. But what exactly is it, and how can you use it wisely?
Understanding Instant Cash Advances
An instant cash advance is typically a small, short-term sum of money you can access quickly, often through an app or online service. Unlike traditional loans, the approval process is usually faster, and the funds can be available almost immediately, especially if you meet certain criteria like having a supported bank account. The primary appeal is speed and convenience. When you're in a bind, waiting days for a bank loan isn't always feasible. Practical tip: Before seeking any advance, assess if the expense is a true emergency or something that can be deferred. This helps avoid unnecessary borrowing.
These services are designed to bridge the gap until your next payday. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), average household expenditures can fluctuate, making it hard to predict when you might need a little extra. An instant cash advance apps can provide that buffer. Actionable insight: Keep a small emergency fund, even $500, to reduce reliance on advances for minor unexpected costs.
Key Considerations Before Using an Instant Cash Advance
While the allure of quick cash is strong, it's crucial to approach these services with caution and awareness. Not all instant cash advance providers are created equal. Many charge fees, which can include subscription fees, express transfer fees, or even interest, effectively increasing the cost of borrowing. Practical tip: Always read the terms and conditions carefully. Understand all potential fees and repayment terms before committing.
Another point to consider is the impact on your overall financial health. Relying frequently on cash advances can sometimes mask underlying budgeting issues. The Federal Reserve offers numerous resources on financial literacy that can help individuals manage their money better. Actionable insight: Use cash advances sparingly and for genuine emergencies, not for routine spending or discretionary purchases.
What to Look For in a Provider
When evaluating instant cash advance options, look for transparency in fees, clear repayment terms, and good customer reviews. Some newer services are challenging the traditional model by offering advances with fewer or no fees. Consider how quickly you need the funds and if there are charges for expedited access. Practical tip: Check if the provider requires access to your bank account and understand their security measures for protecting your financial data. You can also check average household bill costs on sites like Doxo Insights to better plan your budget.
It's also wise to explore alternatives. Could you negotiate a payment plan for the unexpected bill? Is there anything you can temporarily cut back on? Sometimes, a conversation with the creditor can yield a solution. Actionable insight: Maintain a list of financial resources, including community assistance programs, which might offer help in times of need.
A Modern Alternative: Gerald App
If you're looking for an instant cash advance option that prioritizes transparency and user benefit, you might consider Gerald App. Gerald offers Buy Now, Pay Later (BNPL) services and cash advances with a unique approach: zero fees. This means no service fees, no transfer fees, no interest, and no late fees. To access a fee-free cash advance transfer, users typically need to first make a purchase using a BNPL advance. For eligible users with supported banks, these transfers can be instant at no extra cost.
Gerald's model is different because it aims to provide financial flexibility without the hidden costs often associated with other services. They even offer eSIM mobile plans via BNPL. This approach can be particularly helpful for managing unexpected expenses without the fear of spiraling fees. Remember, responsible use is key for any financial tool.

**From PCI DSS to HIPAA: Ensuring Compliance with Robust IT Support in New York City**
Introduction
In contemporary digital world, organisations are a growing number of reliant on science for their operations. This dependence has caused a heightened focus on cybersecurity and compliance specifications, specifically in regulated industries like healthcare and finance. For services working in New York City, wisdom the nuances of compliance frameworks—specifically the Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard (PCI DSS) and the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA)—is quintessential. Navigating those policies requires potent IT give a boost to, which encompasses everything from community infrastructure to documents management.
With the rapid advancement of technological know-how, organizations ought to additionally remain abreast of high-quality practices in details technologies (IT) give a boost to. This article delves into how organizations can ensure that compliance with PCI DSS and HIPAA thru triumphant IT processes whilst leveraging materials from accurate providers like Microsoft, Google, Amazon, and others.
