Larry Taylor was born in 1942 in Chattanooga, Tennessee. He grew up in a family and community that emphasized the importance of military service. His great-great-grandfather fought in the Civil War, his great-uncle in World War I and his father and uncles in World War II.
Larry Taylor joined the U.S. Army Reserve Officer Training Program at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. Upon graduation in June 1966, he was commissioned as a second lieutenant in the Army Reserve, then joined the regular Army in August, volunteering as an armor officer.
He joined the U.S. Army Reserve Officer Training Program at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. Upon graduation in June 1966, he was commissioned as a second lieutenant in the Army Reserve, then joined the regular Army in August, volunteering as an armor officer. After graduating from the U.S. Army Armor School at Fort Knox, Kentucky, Taylor quickly realized he was better suited to be a pilot than an armor officer. He had already obtained a fixed-wing pilot's license before joining the Army and thought that experience would make it easier to learn rotary-wing flying.
After receiving permission to train as a helicopter pilot, he attended the U.S. Army Primary Helicopter School at Fort Wolters, Texas, and then advanced helicopter training at Fort Rucker (renamed Fort Novosel in 2023), Alabama, where he qualified as an Army aviator in June 1967.
Taylor served in Vietnam from August 1967 to August 1968, flying some of the first Bell AH1-G Cobra attack helicopters in combat. Serving with D Troop (Air), 1st Squadron, 4th Cavalry, 1st Infantry Division, Taylor flew over 2,000 combat missions in UH-1 and Cobra helicopters. He was engaged by enemy fire 340 times and was forced down five times. The U.S. Army awarded him at least 50 combat decorations, including the Silver Star, 43 Air Medals, a Bronze Star and two Distinguished Flying Crosses. He also received the Republic of Vietnam Gallantry Cross with Bronze Star.
Among his many harrowing operations, the most dangerous and frightening took place on June 18, 1968, when he rescued a four-man long range patrol team at significant risk to his own life. For his heroic actions that night, the Army awarded him the Silver Star, which President Joe Biden upgraded to the Medal of Honor in 2023. Taylor concluded his military service as a captain with the 2nd Armored Cavalry in West Germany.
After his Army service, he operated a successful roofing and sheet metal company in Chattanooga and was involved with several veterans' organizations. He has also been a generous donor to charitable nonprofit organizations in the Chattanooga area. Taylor and his wife, Toni, reside in Signal Mountain, Tennessee.

The jinx is gone!!!
No, see, she's great. Every bit the equal of her male colleagues. Knows the game inside and out. But right when it would look like the Rockies were really putting things together, she would say something like, "World Series, here we come!" and that would be it, the rest of the season would be a disaster. (Kris Bryant did it too, when he was signed by the Rockies and went on to say that he felt good about the team's chances because he had never played for a losing team. Tony Wolters did it when he showed up for spring training with a g-damn mustache he hadn't had before.)
I wish her well, and of course this doesn't mean the Rockies are now World Series bound, but dang, their chances for a good season just went up.

Twins Comeback To Win In Spring Finale!
Twins 7 Pirates 5 W-Scherff (1-0) L-Minaya (0-1) SV-Phillips (1)
The Minnesota Twins closed out their Spring Training campaign this afternoon. The team headed up to Bradenton to play the Pirates before heading to Kansas City today. Tyler Mahle and Johan Oviedo three up zeroes for the first three innings. Carlos Correa and Max Kepler started a fourth inning rally with singles. Kyle Farmer doubled home a run and the Twins were on the board first. The PIrates answered in the bottom of the fourth as Oneil Cruz led-off with a double to right. He went to third on a groundout and Andrew McCutchen hit a sac fly to center to even the game at one apiece. The Twins came right back in the fifth as Ryan Jeffers led-off with a double. Michael Taylor singled to right and Alex Isola hit into a double play, which plated a run. The PIrates would come right back in the sixth when Austin Hedges singled and Maikol Escotto walked. The next batter, Canaan Smith-Njigba smacked a Jordan Brink change-up out to left for a three-run homer. This put Pittsburgh up 4-2 in a blink of an eye. The PIrates weren’t done yet as Javier Rivas singled to right and a wild pitch moved him to second. Ji-Man Choi hit a run-scoring single to right to extend the Pirates lead to three. The Twins anwered with a Seth Gray walk and a Tony Wolters ground-rulde double. Willie Joe Garry hit an RBI groundout and the Twins pulled within two. The Twins would rally again in the eighth as Will Holland singled with two outs. Anthony Prato tripled him home and Tanner Schobel walked. Seth Gray blasted a Juan Minaya fastball out to right-center for a three-run homer and the Twins took the lead back. Seth Nordlin had a perfect eighth and Alex Phillips put up a zero in the ninth as the Twins beat the Pirates in the spring finale.
-Final Thoughts- Tyler Mahle looked good in his last start before the spring. He threw four innings and allowed a run on one hit with three strikeouts. Hunter McMahon threw a scoreless fifth, Jordan Brink gave up four runs in the sixth, and Alex Scherff put up a zero in the seventh. Seth Nordlin had a 1-2-3 eighth and Alex Phillips had a scoreless ninth. Kyle Farmer and Tony Wolters had two hits to lead the way. The Twins hit 3-for-11 with runners in scoring position and left six men on base. The Twins will head from Bradenton to Kansas City for a workout at Kauffman Stadium tomorrow. Pablo Lopez will face Zack Greinke on Opening Day on Thursday afternoon.

Twins Agree To Minor League Deal With Tony Wolters
The Twins and free-agent catcher Tony Wolters are in agreement on a minor league contract, tweets Jon Heyman of the New York Post. Wolters, a client of the VC Sports Group, will presumably receive an invitation to Major League Spring Training. Braves Bats Shine In Win.
Twins 4 Braves 9 W-Fried (4-0) L-Sanchez (0-4)
The Minnesota Twins played their last split-squad of the spring. Half of the Twins and Braves played in games in North Port and Fort Myers. The Twins were ready from the start at Cool Today Park. Donovan Solano reached on a pop up to second base that Hoy Park couldn’t catch. With two outs, Kyle Garlick smoked a Max Fried offering out to left for a two-run blast. The Twins had a two-run lead before the Braves grabbed a bat. The Braves bounced back in the second as Michael Harris looped a single to center. Ryan LaMarre inexplicably threw behind him as he went to second. Ozzie Albies lined a single to right and Forrest Wall hit a run-scoring single to left to put Atlanta on the board. The Braves got back to work in the third when Ronald Acuna led-off with a triple to left-center. Matt Olson hit an RBI groundout to even the game at two all. Austin Riley kept the chain moving with a walk and Sean Murphy singled to right. Michael Harris lined a run-scoring single to right to put the Braves on top. Forrest Wall plated a pair with a double to right-center as the Braves led 5-2 after three frames. The Twins would jump ahead in the fourth wihen Tony Wolters and Ryan LaMarre walked. Mark Contreras hit an RBI groundout to inch the Twins within two. Hoy Park led-off the fourth with a walk and Ronald Acuna smoked an Aaron Sanchez fastball out to left for a two-run homer. The Twins loaded the bases quickly in the sixth and Mark Contreras hit a sac fly to left. The Braves kept adding on in the seventh as Joe Hudson led-off with a single and Ozzie Albies tripled him home. Forrest Wall hit an RBI groundout to put Atlanta up 9-4. Ty Tice threw up a zero in the eighth and Matt Swarmer struck out two in the ninth as the Braves picked up two wins against the Twins today.
-Final Thoughts- Aaron Sanchez had another horrible outing this spring. He gave up seven runs on eight hits with two strikeouts over three innings. Matt Mullenbach had a 1-2-3 fourth, Danny Coulombe fanned two over two scoreless innings, and Brock Stewart gave up two runs in the seventh. Derek Molina put up a zero in the eighth. Kyle Garlick homered off Max Fried and had two hits. Mark Contreras had two hits as well. The Twins hit 1-for-9 with runners in scoring position and left seven men on base. The Twins will head over to JetBlue Park tomorrow to play the Red Sox. Sonny Gray will face Chris Sale tomorrow afternoon.
