I've been working on this as an attempt to pin down a Northern Renaissance style, and whilst I didn't really nail it I did learn a lot for the next time I want to give it a try

Clan jobs!
Unlike in canon, all the warriors are human in this au and require more jobs than just hunting. Each warrior has a second job to do when they aren't preforming their warrior duties. Apprentices select their jobs after they are done with warrior training. They are trained by other warriors to do these jobs in a less formal manner. He's some examples from the first series
Trademaster-In charge of keeping track of trade between clans and tallying clan supplies (Bluestar and Whitestorm
Blacksmith- makes anything that requires metal and makes weapons (Smallear, Cloudtail, Brambleclaw)
Den keeper- in charge of managing the public clan areas like the clan hall and sorting out conflicts between warriors (Speckletail and Ferncloud)
Leatherworker- makes leather and fixes everyone's armor (Tigerclaw, Longtail, Brightheart)
Monster Hunter- in charge of making sure monsters don't endanger the rest of the clan and organizing monster hunts (Redtail, Darkstripe, Sandstorm, Thornclaw)
Tailor- weaves and dyes cloth, makes and fixes clothes (Goldenflower and Firestar)
Carpentry- builds with wood and builds/fixes houses (Mousefur, Dustpelt, Brackenfur, )
Farmers-takes care of all the horses, pigs, chickens, goats and sheep (Ashfur, Dappletail, Lionheart, one-eye)
Cooking- cooks for the whole clan with the occasional assistance of warriors pulled into the kitchen (Willowpelt, Brindleface, Greystripe)
Fires Master- keeps an eye out for fires, runs fire drills, and makes sure no one is irresponsible with flammable stuff (Runningwind)

While the ponies are the stars of the show in Age of Iron, it's the humans (and their post-human leaders) that move events and make the call on which worlds live and die.
Wielding stolen weapons, worshiping ancient beings, and wiping out small armies for fun and profit, in the world of Warhammer humans are as much a monster as any acid-spewing alien or bloodthirsty daemon. And we wouldn't have them any other way ❤️
Featuring Trademaster Delgan, by EZ the Pony and Saddlepatch

Wyatt Daniels, by EZ the Pony and DragonFaiyah

The mysterious Virgil, by Shade Devi and DragonFaiyah
Dark Techpriest Gaela, by Nicholas Kay and Amadeus

But we all know that TRUE power comes from knowledge, and with that maxim in mind there is one particular sapien who rises above them all!
That's right: Kilroy the newscaster.

Those are once again done by the wonderful EZ, and I'm forever grateful for his contributions!

Book Review: Son by Lois Lowry
Actual rating 4.5/5 stars.
Now, THIS is a true companion/sequel to The Giver. This book has features of all previous books in this series and comes full circle in a way I didn't know possible since the previous two books seemed so disconnected from the first.
I very much enjoyed this read. I loved that we got to revisit the community in which Jonas lived, but this time from a different lens. I loved seeing how the community operated from viewpoints other than Jonas's. And having Jonas be part of part one was also excellent. And having him come back, not as "Leader" but as Jonas in part three? Well, let's say it was nice seeing him again. (I didn't expect him to end up with Kira, but I guess it makes sense).
I'm glad the Trademaster was brought back, if only to learn a bit more about him. In the last book, we only saw him briefly before, and he gets a slightly more significant role in this one. I mean, he's the main antagonist, but only in the later half of the book. I do think he was defeated pretty easily, tough. It reminded me of during the IT movie how they defeated Peniwise by hurling lame insults at him. For a being that is described as pure evil, like Peniqise was, I get the sense that he's super old and, therefore, extra powerful. But Gabe says like three sentences, and this hurts him? I dunno. Feels rushed.
And speaking of rushed, I've said it before for the other books, and I'll say it again. Does Lowry not know how to end books? They all ended so abruptly. Granted, this one was better than the last two and had a slight improvement on the first, but still. They all have significant conflicts, and the second it's resolved, it's over. At the very least, I'd like to see a few paragraphs with the aftermath of everything. I mean, we followed Claire's journey (and I guess Jonas and Kira's, too) for so long, and we get like a sentence hinting everything is going to be okay. I enjoyed the book, but I'm personally not satisfied with the ending.
All in all, this was a nice end to the series. Although you could cut out the middle two books, read The Giver and then this one and still be satisfied, I think. The Giver is still the best one of them all, but this one is a close second.

The forest
Helena had heard stories. Stories of monsters. Monsters so big they could swallow you whole or with skin that could change to blend with any background. With eyes that'll enthrall you in a mystical trance.
Her father had told her these stories when she was small, as a last ditch attempt to calm her hyper little mind.
Much has changed since then. Helena had grown. She had to take over her family gem trading business. It had been over two months since her father- since she took over the trading business. She strolled down the worn forest path that led from her little home to the small town she called, well not home exactly, but the closest thing to it right now. She waved at the egg seller, Mrs.Tailor, who was wrestling with one of her mud covered children, waved back with a smile. Helena smiled at Mrs. Cobbler and Mrs. Henny, who waved dismissively and began gossiping in hushed tones, sneaking over the shoulder glances at Helena as she passed. Helena didn't mind though. She had grown up around most of the town talk about her and her family behind her back. About her mother mostly. Helena never knew exactly what her mother did, but she heard Mrs. Henny say that "her business shot through the roof during the festivals, with all those foreign men around" Helena didn't care. She was going to the Trademaster, who would distribute towns and routes out to all the merchants in town. It would be her first year. She was going to do great. She will be great.
"Henny, North route to Fort Franco. Pair up with Lauder and Smith." Mrs. Henny's oldest daughter, Jessica skipped up to the front to take her map and joined her routemates. Helena stood in the front now, alone. She had hoped she would have a routemate, but she was fine going alone. She just wanted a good town. The Trademaster looked at her name and scoffed. Then Helena recognized them. Her father's main competition in business and for her mother's hand. Ms. Check .The Trademaster tossed Helena's route out of the small cottage window onto the ground and watched with satisfaction as Helena dropped to her knees to pick it up. "Bonechiff, Forest route, Bourington Bay."
Helena stuttered. "B-but, that's through the Black Forest! It's infested with monsters! If I go in there, I'll die by tomorrow morning!"
The Trademaster smirked "I hear that there's a guide for the forest, but she's a bit monstrous" She then burst out laughing and slammed her window shut.
Helena had all her things. Except for her courage. She could find that on the way though. She walked quickly through the forest, whipping her head around at any sound around her. She saw it. She nearly dove behind a tree. Helena peeked around the tree to see it, no her. The monster. Her ticket across the forest. Her only ticket. The monster's olive skin was mottled with dark green and nearly blended in completely with the background. Something wrapped around Helena's ankles and roughly pulled her into view. Her head was reeling, and she was upside down? A face was looking at her. A giant face that took up her whole view. The monster. She had completely black eyes, a sharp gaze and even sharper teeth. She had no hair, just tentacles writhing down the monster's back faintly. Except for the two longest tentacles, which were currently wrapped around Helena's ankles.
"What. Do you want?" The monster spoke in a deep alto voice, one that echoed inside Helena's chest.
"I-I need safe passage! All the way to the bay please!" Helena could barely get a word out with the fear and the blood running to her head. She fumbled around her underdress pockets until she found a ruby, a huge one the size of Helena's fist and held it out to the monstrous woman. "Will this be enough?"
The monster plucked the gem from Helena with one tentacle and inspected it as a smile inched its way into a smug smirk.
The tentacles flipped Helena over and held her wrists together now. "Yes, this is quite enough" On the last word, the monster's mouth stays open and her long tongue shot out and wrapped around Helena. She screamed and tried breaking free, but her legs were already inside the woman. The creature swallowed, leaving Helena with only her head exposed.
"No, no, no! I can get you more gems! Or- or money!" Helena sobbed. She was going to die just like the foolish girls in her Papa's stories. A strange expression passed over the monster's face. She seemed like she was pitying Helena. (Maybe I got through to her!) "Please, please let me go," Helena pleaded. A tentacle rose up, and wiped away Helena's tears. Then, the tentacles holding her dropped, as well as the tongue supporting her back. Helena dropped into the dark maw below her. The monster closed her jaws and Helena was plunged into wet, hot darkness. The monster licked her once and then swallowed Helena.
Strong, slimy muscles pushed her downwards. She fell into an open chamber, the stomach. Her final destination. Helena cried as she punched and kicked at the stomach around her, only to have the wall compress in on her and grind at her body in return. She collapsed, sobbing. (I don't wanna die like this… please.) Helena heard a deep voice around her. The monster.
"Dark Woods Ferry service. I will be your ferry for the next.. hm, you wanted to go to Bourington Bay? That'll take about a month. Strap in."
