From acquisition to exit: Everything that happened after Elon Musk's Twitter deal
From acquisition to exit: Everything that happened after Elon Musk’s Twitter deal
Elon Musk on Friday announced the end of a $44 billion bid to buy the microblogging site Twitter, citing a failure to provide adequate information about the number of fake accounts. According to AFP, Musk’s lawyer Mike Ringler took to Twitter to complain that his client (Musk) had been waiting nearly two months to find data on “fake or spam” accounts on the social media platform. Today we look at…

Why watch or read the news when tumblr is explaining everything that’s going on in the world with memes or rage posts?
I have found out about more information this way than I would’ve by following the actual news.

Bloomberg columnist Conor Sen on Twitter commenting on Twiter’s response to Elon Musk who is attempting to scrap his deal to buy the company.
Twitter was incredibly stupid to get involved with a narcissistic and erratic character like Elon Musk.
As often happens, greed got the better of people. Twitter’s board of directors did not do due diligence and simply believed the popular assumption that Musk had piles of money sitting around which he could easily spend on the deal.
And they certainly didn’t give a shit about the political and social ramifications of selling the platform to an extremist with a toxic agenda.
So Twitter directors have vividly demonstrated to the world their greed, their stupidity, and their amorality. It serves them right if they lose money on the deal.
Journalist Derek Thompson addressed the Musk/Twitter fiasco in an episode of his podcast series Plain English. At 16 minutes, it’s about the length that podcast episodes should be.
Musk Meltdown: Elon’s Breakup With Twitter Is Going to Be Very Messy
Best case scenario: Both Musk and Twitter lose money and the platform remains out of Elon’s hands.

Guess they knew their target audience

Twitter will launch a new verification token to replace the verified token they already used, but can no longer use to verify relevant personalities since it will now be used to identify Twitter Blue subscribers who will pay $8 in exchange for getting the verified token. Sound like a tongue twister? Yes, you're not the only one. It's thanks to the chaos the social network is going through after Elon Musk's buyout. So, while you'll now be able to pay $8 to have your verified next to your name, Twitter will now put another verification token for official accounts, including government accounts, companies, businesses, media outlets, and some public figures. To introduce even more confusion to the situation, if you were previously verified, you will not necessarily receive this new official verification token. The changes were announced by Esther Crawford. The new verified symbol, which literally verifies the verified, appears just below the name indicating that it is an official account. So there is a human verification ensuring that you are not interacting with a fake account. Sound absolutely ridiculous to you? Trust me, it's not just you. Twitter has literally introduced a new verification system that does exactly the same thing the blue verification seal did before Elon Musk killed it. When he decided that anyone could get the blue verification token for $8 a month, he argued that it was a system that spawned two classes: warlords and peasants, and empowered everyone, in exchange for the monthly subscription. Twitter's current lords & peasants system for who has or doesn't have a blue checkmark is bullshit. Power to the people! Blue for $8/month.- Elon Musk (@elonmusk) November 1, 2022 The chaos of Twitter account verification in the. Musk era Twitter's account verification seal became meaningless when Elon Musk announced that anyone can have it after paying $8. If everyone can be verified, then no one is, really, verified. The pre-Musk verification system was a manual process that ensured that the account you interact with isn't fake or isn't a spoofed identity. It not only works well for services like banks, celebrities or companies, but also for politicians, journalists and communicators. When you see the blue seal, you know that the information comes from a real source. But now anyone can get the verified symbol, release fake news, even impersonate someone else. It's something Elon Musk experienced over the weekend, and it infuriated him enough to start blocking verified accounts that changed their names to impersonate him, even if it was a joke and a mockery. An ironic move, considering that after the purchase of Twitter Musk himself said that comedy is now "legal on Twitter." It is also striking that this content moderation decision was made deliberately by Musk, even though days earlier he had announced that no major changes would be made in this regard until the formation of a council composed of people with diverse views. Twitter will be forming a content moderation council with widely diverse viewpoints. No major content decisions or account reinstatements will happen before that council convenes.- Elon Musk (@elonmusk) October 28, 2022 For the time being, Twitter delayed the rollout of the new $8 payment plan that grants the verified token until after the US midterm elections. They fear there will be abuse and it will be used to spread fake news. Maybe they should listen to themselves and understand that verifying anyone in exchange for $8 a month is a terrible idea.

This is like Glass Onion when everyone was like “inept, idiot tech billionaire with a great sales pitch? Must be Elon Musk!”
Then Rian Johnson was like “Well, no. Not really.” (the character seems to be more of a dig at Elizabeth Holmes, imo. And the movie was made a year ago, before the Elon/twitter fiasco.)
Musk fans watching this film and instantly jumping to that conclusion says a lot about what they think of him, deep down.
