I'm terrible at explaining in English I'm so sorry I want if possible to achieve gifs like this set: https://www.tumblr.com/hansjisung/756342060998606848 if that makes sense whether it's in smoothness or even the color i tried vibrant and it kills the quality every time i try it so matte would be what i aim for. A shame that there's not many uhd files for male idols :/ There's so many people using Vapoursynth for KPOP gifs that I thought that I couldn't achieve smooth gifs without it.

So to recap in case I got it wrong; topaz upscaler & uhd files will help?

the particular set u sent isn't mine so i'm not sure what op does exactly in their method 🤞 so i can't be much help there!

vapoursynth is very commonly used and super helpful but its quite finicky on a macbook, because the super smooth denoise filter used in a lot of sets doesn't work with the m1 chips so its kind of moot...

but in terms of matte colouring, i'm sharing my psd that i use <3 just remember to change the curves layer using auto, and it'll probably need minor tweaks depending on lighting and how pale the stage is 💖 HERE IT IS!

Crimson Peak Limited 4k UHD

don’t usually do long posts, but wanted to show off all the stuff that came in the new Crimson Peak release from Arrow! they also did a release in 2019, so i guess they still have the rights.

specs-wise, it obviously looks gorgeous, though there’s not as drastic of an increase in quality from the 2019 Bluray as there might be with other films, since Crimson Peak wasn’t originally filmed in 4k, so it’s an upscale rather than “true 4k”. not a slight against it at all, Crimson Peak is already an incredible looking film that obviously looks beautiful in 4k. the audio is also largely the same, which, again, is fine because the movie already sounds great. but if you’re just upgrading for technical specs then that’s important to know. (got all this info from Jeff Rauseo on Youtube, ty Jeff)

but a lot of people are probably buying for the packaging/inclusions! so i took a bunch of pictures. images look a bit more saturated than they do in real life bc i’m compensating for my shitty camera lol.

the casing is really nice, it has a spine to resemble a book, when you open it up you get these cool splash pages. you pull on the ribbon to remove the second case with the booklet in it (not the disc, which i thought would be in there).

from there, we have four double-sided photo cards showing Edith, Thomas, Lucille, and Alan. the front side is the classic promotional art, i think the back side are new renders? i might be wrong, not sure.

also included is a double-sided mini-poster, again with the front being one of the original theatrical posters, and the back being what i think is a new render. (if anyone wants exact size i can measure it.)

then we have the disc itself! not much to say, some nice art that matches the case. it doesn’t come with a DVD/HD Bluray, so if you have the 2019 Bluray, there’s a reason to hang onto it even if you get this new release.

lastly, the booklet! i LOVE the cover on this thing. i sort of wish one of the sides of the mini-poster was done in a style like the casing/disc/booklet cover, because it looks sick as hell, but i’m probably just going to use the theatrical poster side when/if i hang it.

included a picture of the table of contents! has some interviews and essays, pretty standard for these nicer Arrow releases (i also have the Re-Animator and Bride of Re-Animator boxsets).

can’t include anymore pictures in this post, but i can take some pictures of the inside of the booklet if anyone’s interested!

overall, i am obsessed with this release. Crimson Peak absolutely deserves this kind of technical upgrade, and the care that went into this release is obvious. if you’re a physical media collector, or just a big fan of the movie, i would definitely recommend picking this up!

can i please know how you get your gifs to look so smooth and not have any of that weird artifacting that you usually get with gifs

hello!!!! thank u for the compliment!!! tbh i think my smoothest gifs happen when i gif from super high quality files. 1080p is great but i love giffing 2160p uhd files especially from music bank, i think those gifs come out so nice (why does mcountdown quality suck no matter what). 60fs will also give u smoother gifs since there's more frames per second! (if you dm me i can give u a link for files 😇). i also think coloring is a big thing, try not to manipulate colors too much and the more saturated a gif is the more pixelated it can get. also if you oversharpen there can be a weird dark outlines or shadows that show up that can make ur gifs look more pixelated! - dana

hi! when you say smooth, i assume you mean the frame rate? the key is always to use .ts files and deinterlace them (using vapoursynth or mpv!) and like dana said uhd files make ALL the difference in the world and there are specific uploaders and sites where you can get them but sadly mcountdown is rarely broadcasted in uhd. i've also found that upscaling with handbrake can also help the gifs get slightly better quality + and to prevent pixelation i 100% agree with dana recommends, as manipulating colours too much (say blues -> reds) can cause weird dithering and pixelation. also i would utilise the diffuse filter during your sharpening process! - zaynab

I loved this series as a kid. Picked up the DVD(Only the original series is available on Blu Ray 😥) for a few quid ages ago and decided to rewatch.

Camp, at times soap opera like and often laughably bad, this hasn't aged well. This however, is great fun.

Disowned by Kenneth Johnson(Who wrote the mini series a few years before this) because of the studio interference with the script and the constant cutting of the budget. It's clear that the shortcomings Johnson was concerned about were never addressed.

What puts this over the top is the acting. Jane Badler as Diana and Marc Singer as Donovan are pantomime in their performances and hugely enjoyable. A pre Freddy Robert Englund is great as Willie the show's audience surrogate.

The real standout is Michael Ironside as Ham Tyler. His special forces soldier played as a haunted Vietnam Veteran lingers in the memory. Ironside would have been in his mid 30s at this point. He still manages to look like an old man.

Total shit but you'll have a good laugh. As a tip don't play this on a UHD Blu Ray Player. The upscaling makes it look horrific. #v #80s #michaelironside
