About NEET PG: The National Eligibility and Entrance Test for Post-Graduation, or NEET PG, is administered nationwide to candidates seeking MD MS Admission and PG Diploma programs. The computer-based exam is conducted by the  (NBE) National Board of Examinations once a year.

Coming down from 72kgs to 59.4 is a feat to achieve and I’m proud of myself and my will to not give up!

We completed internship successfully in September 2023

Came back home and attended loads of weddings

Took some time off and enjoyed being present and with family

We joined gym in November 2023 with starting weight of 72 kgs

Neet pg got postponed from March to July and then back to June

We joined Pulse super speciality hospital as a Resident Medical Officer and handled the private ward patients

Gym is going well and we have officially lost 13-14 kgs

We joined swimming classes but left after 7 days of training cz exams are near

Will be joining swimming lessons post exams

While I was preparing for NEET PG I focused mostly on high yield topics and wide coverage rather than in depth knowledge. And it was helpful for the exam because NEET has the tendency to test the basic clinical knowledge and common sense. But I always wanted to read topics in depth and thats how I used to read during my proff years. It had its own pros and cons. I used to focus on knowing the topic by diving deep in and in the end I would not get enough time to focus on rest of the topics equally and end up cramming everything. Before I started my NEET PG prep, I did a lot of research on the patterns and trends of the examination and I realised that I should work smarter than harder to get a decent score. But a surface level reading and understanding also left me with a lot of FOMO. So now I have decided to read them chapters in detail without any pressure at my comfort pace. I believe this would also help me with my residency and hopefully I dont lose touch on the subjects.

To be honest, there isn't a field that doesn't have negativity or negative byproducts at all.

Corporate worlds have bigotry and discrimination on the basis of favoritism.

Research and science field, on top of the problems of the corporate world, are also weighed down by meager sponsors or underfinanced expectations.

Filmmaking has the world sometimes reacting to you like you're dirty and not worth the money you receive for your talent.

The so called arts courses of history, geography, sociology, psychology etc. are overlooked as rich people's hobbies and not deemed qualifiable for a real life job.

Teachers are underpaid and disrespected and made the butt of jokes and teaching is slowly being disregarded as the honorable profession that it once was.

Social media influencers are dismissed as not having talent to either secure a "proper" job this way or be in the filmmaking field that way.

In this maze that I call "Labyrinth of Careers choosing their Hoomans" I don't think there's any field without negativity. There's always a rain cloud and there always is a rainbow.

Calling my decision to be a doctor to be fueled by ambition somehow sounds wrong to me. I have always wanted to help people, and have always been empathetic and understanding of one's pain and how it feels to take care/be taken care of. I marvel at the safety and trust that patients offer to get better or to come out of pain. It is a dream of mine but not the kind that makes me cheer and shout with excitement. Everytime I dream of being a doctor, my heart fills with a sense of calm, of duty and mellow happiness that grounds me with my usefulness.

I have seen people become doctors with the ambition of receiving respect in the society. I have seen people become doctors because they can jump from middle class to upper class.

Which are statements that do and should co-exist with the drive of people like me.

What keeps me going with wanting to become a doctor is that I could help people and hopefully save them. I have a sense of surrendered belief that people have other people's names written in their destiny. Names that will save you one day or another, in any way possible.

And my name is written in the fates of people that I have to save. Whether I do it as a doctor or as a teacher or a singer or writer or a member of society, it matters little as long as I am saving (this is my selfishness) and as long as they are getting saved (this is my hope for them).

Medicine is a wide profession: you can become a physician, a surgeon, a children's doctor, an army doctor, a nurse, a manager, you can run a hospital, a clinic, a lab, a research project leader/participant, a dean, a teacher, a professor, a public figure, an important assistant. There are endless possibilities.

The only thing I can say now about the negativity in the medical field, is that we can try and steer clear of it or we can wade through it. Help must be taken for both options because this is not a one man battle.

If you are feeling down about NEET exam and your brain is messing it up with the MBBS vibes, then I pray you try separate them for a while till NEET PG. Exams will always be there and they won't always be there on paper with an omr. Sometimes they are in our mind with anxiety looming over us and you hear a clock ticking. Hey TT. I have my NEET PG exam coming up in 4 days and underprepared, uninterested, depressed, anxious and a whole lot of other adjectives. It feels like i did a big blunder becoming a doctor and coming into this field. I have zero interest left in this field. But nobody outside will understand if I want to leave this field because doctor bannke kon chod deta hain. Don't even know if i can leave this and do something else because I come from a middle class family and have a single parent.

I'm already 27 and jobless. At this point it feels like I want a PG seat only to get a good rishta and settle in life. I do want it. A good partner. A nice companion ship. I want to be happy. Would it be so bad to take any non clinical seat and be satisfied with a 60k 70k salary for the rest of my life? This move is a career suicide in my field literally. People will look down upon me and I'm already dealing with this immense pressure since childhood to be ultra succesful in life and help my mom. My mom is supportive but I can't help being guilty for all the sacrifices she made for me and my education and I won't even give her the satisfaction of a succesful child. First of all big hugs. 🫂🫂🫂 I know perfectly the feeling of putting in the years and effort only to realize that the career isn't working out for whom you are as a person. Been there, done that.

I personally am of the opinion (and you are fully welcome to disagree) that if you are finding it intolerable to trudge through a day in a certain profession, then it's better to leave it. Fuck what people outside or even INSIDE the career think. Medicine is very very hard (in every way; academically, physically - depending on your area, and emotionally) and a soul-grinding kinda job and not everyone is made for it. And if you have zero interest in it anymore...... Well, there's your answer. Patients who come to a doctor deserve to have someone who is invested in making them better. If you feel like you don't have that to give (and that's in no way a bad thing! not everyone is capable of it!) then why put yourself through becoming a doctor? Look up the concept of "sunk cost fallacy". I think that's what you're experiencing right now.

You said your mom is supportive and you want to help her out. So I want you to carefully sit and think about this: Which do you think will work out for both of your happiness long term? Pushing yourself into a big career that you can't sustain long-term, which could lead to burnout and then her having to support you again; or making a side-step into a non-clinical field which may start small and not flashy, but you can successfully commit to long-term, and thus build up a career in eventually? Trust me, any good parent just wants their child to be healthy and happy. All the money in the world cannot buy those things. I would suggest you have an honest talk with your mom and tell her that you're struggling, but also feeling an immense amount of guilt that you may be letting her down. I am sure she will want you to pick the option that makes you feel better in the long run. You have nothing to prove to anyone else. It's just between you and her.

As for the rishta thing, again, you want a life partner who is going to understand when you feel like this (and we go through things like this many a time in life; unfortunately, this is what adulthood is) and be a supportive companion through it. So look for a partner who has compassion and empathy and can understand why you made such a decision, rather than one who just looks at the job title you hold and your take-home package.

It WILL get better. But for it to get better, you will have to make some unconventional choices and not care what other people think or say. Once you are at peace with yourself, you will not care for outside opinions anyway.
