Dec. 5: 3:16 a.m. — A caller reported he was having a terrorist attack on his Facebook and it involved the synagogue of satan.

Dec. 4: 5:13 p.m. — A man from Spring and South Pine streets said he needed to make a statement, was rambling, then called back on the business line to report he was being made fun of in Nevada City dance clubs, where he was line dancing.

Dec. 4: 2:19 p.m. — A man reported he had been held against his will for several days and his property was taken. He was extremely uncooperative and kept singing his answers. He just wanted his property back and did not want to report the kidnapping.

Dec. 13: 11:30 a.m. — A man from Highway 49 kept asking “What is your first name?” When provided the name, he said “I am a human being and I have one more person to pray for,” and hung up.

Dec. 13: 4:27 p.m. — A struggle was heard on a 911 call from Greenhorn Road. On callback, a grandmother and grandson were racing to see if a cell phone or rotary dial phone would call 911 the quickest. The rotary dial won the race.

This past Friday, a monumental shift of opportunities opened when the DIX Crisis Intervention Center doors opened the 16-bed facility for the public to tour the facility as well as a beautiful ribbon cutting ceremony with many of our local, regional and state leaders present.

With one in four adults and 10% of children in the US estimated to suffer from a mental health crisis this year. The WHO (World Health Organization) suggests that mental disorders are far more common than common diseases like cancer and heart disease.

A 2013 report from the federal Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration reported that 9.6M adults have serious mental health illnesses. These major mental health issues include but are not limited to major depression, schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, OCD (Obsessive Compulsive Disorder), panic disorder, PTSD (Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder) and borderline personality disorder. A combination of treatment is typically required to help lead citizens to a healthier mental state and lifestyle which may require in-patient treatment whether short-term or long-term. Additionally, mental health treatment plans generally require medication(s), therapy and peer support participation.

The DIX Crisis Intervention Center is an innovative alternative, cultivating a more dynamic care option that eliminates strain on our counties first responders, law enforcement and paramedics overall with the “No Wrong Door” policy. Whereas in the past, those in a mental health crisis would be transported to the nearest Emergency Department for drop-offs and law enforcement would be required to remain with the person until the admission process was completed which could be hours. During those hours, there are fewer officers patrolling the streets and responding to calls of crime and violence. If a person is in need of care and exhibits symptoms of substance abuse and/or mental illness, and is not in an urgent need of medical intervention, First Responders can take them directly to the DIX center and by-pass the lengthy admission process of emergency room care. The average stay is 1-4 days with medication, group therapy and individual services including peer support.

The Onslow Beat reached out to two mothers the county has witnessed fight back against addiction, support mental health and recovery options for both issues and on the ground advocating through an organization known as Sneads Ferry’s H.O.P.E (Heroin.Opiate.Prevention.Education), Mrs. Vanessa Sapp and Mrs. Cindy Patane. Patane was on a cruise and unable to respond for an interview. Sapp and Patane both lost their sons to overdose in 2016. Digital Reporter, Melissa Oakley asked Sapp, “How do you feel about the DIX center opening in our county?” Sapp responded, “Losing Wes continues to be the most difficult experience of my life. Almost immediately, I knew something needed to be done to prevent other parents from such a tragedy. And that is why, along with Cindy Patane, I stood up and spoke out… and three years later, we continue this fight! Our boys did not die in vain, this detox/crisis center is just one of many confirmations. I am so very grateful to all those who joined the fight to make a difference! There is no doubt that this detox/crisis center is needed in our community! Literally, this morning, as the ribbon cutting was underway, I was helping connect a person in need of services outside our county, because there was not a local option. When a person reaches out for help, that person needs help right then and there; not later in the afternoon, not tomorrow… NOW! A crisis center will increase access to treatment for the “now” need! While this is a great first step, 3-7 days only provides a pause and a window of opportunity to make the next connection. We must immediately start working on the next step, long term treatment options, to include both intense outpatient treatment and inpatient treatment. Keep fighting! Together, we can and will save more lives!” -Vanessa Sapp

Sapp has also been vocal about how mental health and substance abuse oftentimes go hand in hand in the past. Her son Wes had begun to struggle with anxiety and insomnia, began treatment for those issues and soon after experimenting with marijuana and abusing the prescription medication began. Vanessa and her husband Jason Sapp are advocates through North Carolina Parents Coalition for C.H.A.N.G.E and you can read more of Wes’s story on the site as well as how to volunteer and obtain support.

If you or someone you know is experiencing a mental health issue, the center is better equipped to address the needs than the emergency room since the focus of the center is solely on the mental health and substance abuse detox and recovery. Mental Health providers are able to better address concerns more quickly, and the basic needs will be attended to in an environment that is conducive to safety and comfort for those suffering a mental health and/or substance abuse crisis.

Mental health and substance use disorders affect people from all walks of life and all age groups. These illnesses are common, recurrent, and often serious, but they are treatable and many people do recover. Mental disorders involve changes in thinking, mood, and/or behavior. These disorders can affect how we relate to others and make choices. Reaching a level that can be formally diagnosed often depends on a reduction in a person’s ability to function as a result of the disorder. For example:

Serious mental illness is defined by someone over 18 having (within the past year) a diagnosable mental, behavior, or emotional disorder that causes serious functional impairment that substantially interferes with or limits one or more major life activities.

For people under the age of 18, the term “Serious Emotional Disturbance” refers to a diagnosable mental, behavioral, or emotional disorder in the past year, which resulted in functional impairment that substantially interferes with or limits the child’s role or functioning in family, school, or community activities.

Substance use disorders occur when the recurrent use of alcohol and/or drugs causes clinically significant impairment, including health problems, disability, and failure to meet major responsibilities at work, school, or home. –SAMHSA

What is Spotify?

Spotify is a music streaming service developed by Swedish company Spotify Technology, which is headquartered in Stockholm, Sweden.

Spotify launched their service on 7 October 2008. As of 20 August, 2018, it is available in 65 regions. It provides DRM-protected content from record labels and media companies.

Spotify is available in most of Europe, most of the Americas, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, and parts of Asia. It is available for most modern devices, including Windows, macOS, and Linux computers, iOS, Windows Phone, and Android smartphones and tablets, as well as the PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One home consoles.

Music can be browsed through or searched for by parameters such as artist, album, genre, playlist, or record label. Users can create, edit, and share playlists and tracks on social media, and make playlists with other users.

Spotify provides access to more than 40 million songs. As of July 2018, it had 180 million monthly active users, including 83 million paying subscribers.

The company pays roughly 70 percent of its revenue for royalties to artists and companies that hold the rights to the music.

Spotify pays artists and labels per streamed track, with the Spotify artists page explaining that there is an average an average “per stream” payout to rights holders of between $0.006 and $0.0084.

Artists have questioned the value that Spotify returns with some major global artists such as Taylor Swift and AC/DC withdrawing some, or all of their music from the platform.

Video Takeover is a "video spot with a companion display unit", are "served during commercial ad breaks between songs in a music session", and are only available on the computer apps.

Audio Ads are "served during commercial ad breaks between songs in a music session" with a maximum duration of 30 seconds and play every 15 minutes.

Display Ads are "clickable images displayed for 30 seconds". Display ads are shown at the bottom of the Spotify client.

Overlay is "Spotify's 'welcome back' ad. It greets returning users on mobile and desktop with a can't-be-missed, large display ad to maximize brand impact and performance".

Homepage Takeovers are "a combination of background skin and optional interactive area that takes over the Spotify homepage".

Branded Playlists are "Spotify playlists that contain a branded cover art image and text". They can only have one song per artist, and must have a minimum of 20 tracks in the playlist.

Advertiser Pages are a "microsite seamlessly integrated into the Spotify player", that can "contain practically any content you'd find on a webpage, including videos, clickable images, blogs, news, links, and comments."

India’s mobile phone market grew hugely in 2006 and has since gained more than half a billion subscribers, taking the total today to 900 million. Music plays a key role in mobile operators’ customer acquisition, branding and engagement strategies, as smartphone adoption rises.

Leading operators such as Airtel, Vodafone, Idea and Tata Docomo offer a range of music services including ringtones, ringback tones, downloads and mobile radio streaming services - which are usually bundled into subscription packages. Mobile radio services are evolving to offer multi-language stations and intelligent playlists.

India’s emerging music business is still struggling to compete with piracy. IFPI estimates that more than half of internet users (54%) access unlicensed services on a monthly basis in India - a huge market potential, if some of them can be migrated to licensed services.

In this approach, a company gives equal importance to every country’s domestic market. Every participating country is treated solely and individual strategies are carried out. This approach is especially suitable for countries with certain financial, political and cultural constraints.

This is the only approach you can go to India.

As India has lots of diversity, you cannot go with the same mentality into the market. Even each state may need a different approach.

In markets like the USA, most of the population speak English, so the language barrier are minimum, but in India, even the people living in same state speak different language, and listen different songs.

Not only Spotify has to come up with a unique strategy for India, but also in India, Spotify may have to go with a different approach to different language speakers.

India’s music industry is large, and so is its economy. According to the IMI’s annual report for 2017, released this April, the revenues of the Indian recorded music industry grew to Rs 725 crore last year.

This made India the nineteenth largest music market in the world, as per the International Federation of the Phonographic Industry. At the conferences, IMI chairman Shridhar Subramaniam mentioned that the current size is Rs 850 crore.

Revenues from digital music, which includes audio and video streams, account for the bulk of this amount.

During a panel, Sachin Singhal, a chief business officer at Airtel’s Wynk Music, said Indian music streaming services had 12 to 15 million Daily Active Users.

Interestingly, Subramaniam said that one of the IMI’s aims is to have 400 million (MAU) “on legal music services by 2020”.

The biggest issue is the general music consumer’s apparent unwillingness to pay for music. While India-based streaming services may have amassed over 100m users the overall conversion rate to paying is reckoned to be just 1%.

The new Government wanted to make licensing for live events easier. It changed first in Delhi. Now you can get permissions online.

And as the situation looks, there are chances that the government will remain the same in the next five years. The reason we are having the Justin Beiber concert and Ed Sheeran concert in India is proving that the government is going easy on licensing the event. And it can be seen for the music service streaming site. With End law that cleared up the decade-old law of copyright, and gives the power to the maker, the royalty giving has become easier.

The problem is, Spotify directly pays to artists, and that is a lose for Music label companies. Apparently, the large record labels that are controlling the music industry in India will never be happy.

Mode of Entry for Spotify would be Direct Exports. Spotify is not going with anyone. Spotify will handle its business on its own.

This method could be good, because as there are lots of Domestic Music Streaming Apps in India, like Gaana, Wynk, Saavn, Hungama, but there is no International app.

Amazon Prime, NetFlix, and Youtube red is here, but they are not entirely for music. They serve bigger purpose.

When Spotify will arrive, it will be the first International Independent Music Streaming App. Because there are shares of Chinese Market in Wynk and Saavn.

The problem would be acquiring the license of so many songs that are in different language. To get the permission of accessing the catalog is a huge task, but it could be done.

Culture of India

Yes it is very important to look for the culture of the country while setting up the new business. It can save the company from many problems.

As I already said, Indian people like podcasts, so it could be good if Spotify make podcasts, but only the entertainment type.

And then Indian people are sensitive, and most of them are illiterate, and that make them dangerous.

So the path is not actually easy.

Spotify has to start audio program on their show that does not spark any issues.

They have to collaborate with people who don’t have any controversies with them.

There is lot of listeners who lies local and folk music. And they will want it in their app. Gaana trying to do this but not successful yet.

Then there are lots of festivals, and nearly every festival require different type of music. So lots of scope in making playlist of each fest. Pricing could make or break the strategy for Spotify. As we have seen in other Asian countries where Spotify is already working, they had changed their pricing in each country.

It’s one thing to turn a profit—it’s better to do it while making your customers happy with your pricing. More satisfied users leads to more subscribers which gives you higher overall revenue in the long term, even if you offer your services at a lower price point.

This is the best practice that Spotify discovered when working in Asia, where the company offered different pricing based on the average incomes of its various Asian markets: Spotify Premium currently runs for USD $7.10 per month in Singapore, $6.20 in Hong Kong, around $5 for Taiwan, and less than $4 in the Philippines and Indonesia. Product Adaptation for Sotify in India

Of course Spotify would change the app according to country. There is large number of people using Smart-Phones, but still many are illiterate, and not know much how to use the miscellaneous app.

So the first task would be to make the login as easy as possible. And it is already easy. You can login via facebook.

Then there is the UX issues. India does not have very high-speed internet, and because of Jio, the speed of the internet has increased, but the app should support the lite mode.

Like Facebook has many lite modes for its apps. And they work great for a slower connection.

So there will be two apps, one fully functional, and one is a lite version.

Also, Indian people are not divided by the genre of music, but by the language of the music.

So we have to add Sort by language category in the app. And have to stick it to the user at once. Like Saavn do. Just after opening the app, they ask what language you want to listen.

In India, there is no electricity in lots of rural areas. But they do have mobile phones. And they do listen the songs. So the app should take less battery while operating. That would work for Lite app. But even the main app taking the less battery will work great.

One of the big part of Spotify are their podcasts. And there is no doubt that Indians do listen to podcasts, but they are mostly for entertainment purposes, for political purpose Indian only believe main stream media.

But there is risk of people getting offended. So the entertainment should be simple jokes, not sarcasm.

Spotify has to make deals with local artist and give them spotlight, because people here like it when a common person becomes a star.

There is much adaptation a product has to do before entering into new market.

Then the biggest change as to be made in Payment Method. We will add the E-vallets, like PayTm, PhonePe, or Tez, so you can recharge via your PayTm money.

By this way, the consumer will get some cash back, and it will be easy, as the trust on PayTm is increasing day by day.

Promotion of Spotify in India

Spotify believes in word-of-mouth and doesn’t do much of promotion. But in India, they cannot succeed without promotion. Because they are a brand in Indian consumer’s eyes, and a person will expect a promotion from a brand.

And if they will not promote, it will cause harm to their brand image.

The target audience here is the generation who listen to music. While every gen listen music but older gen does not do use music apps. They consider it as time waste.

Several injured in Paris knife attack | News | DW

French authorities arrested a man who stabbed several people outside a cinema in Paris late Sunday.

Police said seven people were among the injured, including two British tourists, and four of them were in critical condition, news agency AFP reported.

The man, who is believed to be an Afghan national, was carrying an iron bar and a knife when he began stabbing people outside a cinema on the banks of the Bassin de la Villette in the city’s 19th district at around 11pm (2100 UTC).

Witnesses said some people threw petanque balls — the heavy balls used in the popular French sport boules — at the attacker, but they were unable to stop him.

No signs of terror attack

AFP quoted a source close to the investigation as saying the man has been arrested and that he had targeted “strangers” but “nothing at this stage shows signs of a terrorist nature.”

“We are urgently investigating this incident and are in close contact with the French authorities,” the British Foreign Office said in a statement.
