So. This is a week later.

My excuse is, I came up with this idea for a full length fic that I thought would be fun. Sure, it was a pigeon keeping AU, but close enough. And then I started writing it, and realised that it didn't need to be as long as I planned it to be? And that by making it longer, I would have not so much as 'over egged the pudding' as 'made a sweet omellete.'

...except then it wasn't even a pigeon keeping AU?

So, I have a picture of HuaLian as pigeons.

And I have a post-canon pigeon fic.

Xie Lian sat on the edge of a fountain, watching as the crowds milled apart the market. The bubbling sound cut half the hubbub, and the scent of clean water cut half the smell of fried food and cooking meat.

Hua Cheng sat next to him, scanning the crowds as well, looking almost as if he was Xie Lian’s guard.

Which was funny, because they were out here in this mortal town on Ghost City business. Xie Lian didn’t have any reason to come, just— Hua Cheng had only just recently returned to him, and he was still greedy for his company. But the business was over, and they both sat around lazily, with nothing better to do.

Xie Lian munched on one of the red bean buns Hua Cheng insisted on buying for him.

A pigeon walked up to them, in that shy back and forth bob as they tried to test how close they dared to get for the reward of crumbs. She held her wings tight, ready to spring into flight at the merest twitch from the scary ‘humans.’

She was smell enough that he guessed she was a hen. Mostly white, with a strip of iridescent gray around her neck like a piece of jewellery. Very pretty, for a feral bird.

The pigeon keepers in Xianle had always favoured that pattern. The dovecotes in the palace were filled with as many pied birds like her as they were with pure white ones.

Maybe she was a distant descendant. That was a nice thought.

He pinched off a bit of bun, and tossed it to her.

She pecked at it, with great gusto and happy coos.

Hua Cheng leaned over to watch, taking the excuse to put his hand on top of Xie Lian’s. “Encouraging the rabble, I see?”

Xie Lian laughed. “Supporting my fellow busker.” He threw her another piece. A few more pigeons crept up cautiously, but she commanded enough presence that they didn’t dare approach yet. “She is a very charming performer.” If she was a long lost descendant of dove royalty, scraping a living out on the streets— well, she was fat and at least happy for now. That was something.

Hua Cheng’s eye crinkled. “I fear this San Lang is a phillistine.”

Xie Lian laughed again, and handed him some crumbs to distribute. “It takes time to properly appreciate the art, but my San Lang is so clever, I’m sure he could pick it up quickly.”

The fact that Dean Winchester didn't have tattoos from the beginning was the biggest disappointment for me in the series.

It's a physical NEED.

I *know* that character would've at least had ONE and I get that they couldn't afford it at the time, but ugh so sad.

Lots of fans complain bitterly about bigger issues, but I'm just here like... ta- tat... tattoos? 😭 please? 👉👈gimme?! the man has them just show them please NOW?!!!

And for Dean not to encourage Sam to get one once they were on the road again?! It's WRONG!! Sam would've gotten at least one too! Not just for protection, but an actual because-he-wanted-one tattoo!

Y'all I know that when so-called AI generates ridiculous results it's hilarious and I find it as funny as the next guy but I NEED y'all to remember that every single time an AI answer is generated it uses 5x as much energy as a conventional websearch and burns through 10 ml of water. FOR EVERY ANSWER. Each big llm is equal to 300,000 kiligrams of carbon dioxide emissions.

LLMs are killing the environment, and when we generate answers for the lolz we're still contributing to it.

Stop using it. Stop using it for a.n.y.t.h.i.n.g. We need to kill it.

I'm going to have to go with 9-1-1, but only because it's still releasing new content. Check in with me again at the end of season 8-- I'm really curious to see how they're going to handle some things, and it's got the potential to either be done very well, or to totally jump the shark...😬😅

I was in the middle of reading a fic called Castiel: The King of Hell by Wrightish on AO3. I still had the page open but couldn't download it since it was deleted! Here is the link I have:

The only public fandom server I'm part of for Chinese media (...virtually the only public fandom server I'm in at all, and my personal main hang-out spot on Discord...) is @merinnan et al's Daomu Biji server.

It's the nicest, chillest, most welcoming public fandom server I've ever been in - not that we haven't had our moments of drama, but they've been rare, and I've always felt comfortable there - and I've made a lot of friends too. That said, if you're not into DMBJ and/or as obsessed with Zhu Yilong as I am, I can't imagine it'd be a great fit.

Also, so - I'm @unforth, and my day job is that I own and operate an indie micropress, Duck Prints Press, that publishes original work by fanartists and fanauthors. As part of that, I and the staff involved with that run a "Book Lover's" Discord server. While it's sort of a combo "about the Press" and "about all queer books" and "about whatever we feel like talking about" server, we do end up talking about danmei a fair amount because multiple of the people involved in the Press, including obviously me, are into that kind of thing. Like we do a weekly chat on Wednesday about what we're reading and yesterday's was like, "here's one mlm YA book! here's a thriller in Dutch! here's the Yuri manga I just read! And here are the eighteen bajillion things we're all currently reading on Bilibili oh and I started Poyun." You're certainly welcome to join us. What we talk about there really boils down to what the people who are there want to talk about, ya know?

About a million years ago, I started building a cnovelartreblogs Discord server myself, but I've been so frackin busy the last couple years that I've never managed to finish setting it up the way I'd like. That said, it's got penciled in rules and channels for some of the more popular cnovel fandoms (mostly danmei, tho there is a Please Don't Laugh section). If I could get help moderating it, I could open it.

I just really don't have the ability to do it myself anymore, my days right now are like:

wake up

scroll tumblr and do upkeep on the art side blogs (while sitting with my kids and helping them get ready for the day) (1.5 hrs or so)

study Chinese (while sitting with my kids and helping them get ready for the day (.5 hrs, tho I wish it was more, if I can manage more than 30 minutes then I can actually try reading a real damn book but I only have the time maybe once or twice a month)

work (7 to 8 hours on weekdays, often more on the weekends, bonus if my kids are around and my wife is at work, such as tomorrow)

try to be a good mom (all the hours)

errands, chores, kid after school activities, etc. (1 to 3 hours a day)

read while snuggling kids on the couch and trying to ignore the tv (an hour if I'm lucky)

sleep (8ish hours, I hope)

there's just no wiggle room left for me to do any extra fandom stuff right now, sigh.

(sorry to whine about that part. it's not relevant. I just got my covid booster yesterday and I feel terrible today so I'm feeling sorry for myself. it's truly not a bad life overall I'm just perpetually exhausted)

Everything feels awful right now but it isn't really. We still don't officially have a winner, but regardless of how the presidential election ends up, I wanted to take a minute and find what lights I can in the 3 a.m. darkness. Here's what I know:

* Kentucky overwhelmingly rejected an attempt to undermine the public education system by offering private school vouchers:

* Delaware has elected a transgender woman to the House of Representatives, the first out trans person of any gender ever elected to congress:

* For the first time in history, two Black women will be serving in the senate at the same time, and they are only the fourth and fifth Black women ever elected to the senate:

* New York State has passed a constitutional amendment enshrining the rights of pregnant people (including the right to an abortion), LGBTQIA+ people, the disabled, immigrants regardless of legal status, and other at-risk groups:

* Democrat Josh Stein has beaten self-avowed Nazi Mark Robinson to become governor of North Carolina:

That's everything I know off the top of my head. It's not many bright spots, but it's not zero. I'm going to try to find more and I'll add them to the post. It's the only thing I can think of to do that isn't sobbing and throwing up or looking up Canadian immigration rules.

Okay so this is the world's dumbest answer but that's a quirk of how I ended up tagging bats specifically.

See, I didn't want to make a bat-specific tag (there's not a ton of bat art, and having "microlabels" can make it harder for people to find things instead of easier).

I also don't have a "mammal" tag.

And, on the MDZS sideblog, I do have a "winged (character)" tag I could use, but this issue first came up on the TGCF sideblog when an artist did some art of Yin Yu as a bat, and on the TGCF sideblog, I DON'T have a "winged (character)" tag.

So I either had to make a new tag just for bats, make an overarching tag and deal with the bajillion not-bat mammals that I'd then have to tag with mammal and whatever their tag was, use ONLY a creature tag knowing that doing so would decrease visibility/findability...or...well...

So I looked at the tags I DID have, and I ultimately decided it made sense to file them under bird, even though I know bats aren't birds, since that's "most similar" among the existing tags I have.

I know it's idiotic. I cringe every time I do it. I should probably just stop.

But, for whatever it's worth, it's idiotic and it's wrong but it was intentional, lmao.

I've always been afraid an artist would notice and go "Wtf" at me over this, or even just assume I don't know that bats aren't birds. I do! I do know that! I couldn't think of a good solution so I went with a bad one instead! I'm not even defending it, I know it's ridiculous. 🤣🤣
