One Piece Chapter 1093 - Initial Thoughts

And we are back A week removed from last chapter for a change, it's been a long while

July in fact, 1088 and 89, well 1085 to 89, since then it was consecutive breaks until now.

An Admiral is in the clutches of a Yonko, a giant is awakening and the forcefield is about to go down, so what's next? I'll tell you what's next, the chapter

Picking up where we left off with Luffy holding Kizaru

Oh man's is winding up for some tit for tat

Man went from throwing lightning to throwing light

The group plan to leave Kizaru to Luffy, but Atlas plans to go down to the fabriophase

It sounds like death flags even if she's there to outrank the authority chip regarding the Mark IIIs

Really reminding you that there is indeed one person in the vicinity of Egghead who can in fact outrank the Vegapunks

Stella wants to come too

Usopp does make a point in that it is counterproductive for Stella to go down to the people who want him dead when they're trying to keep him alive

He calls Franky to confirm that Bonney got knocked off too - also reprimanding him for not protecting Bonney from an admiral who moves at the speed of light

Franky wants to go down to help Bonney, as does Sanji who is with Jinbe stocking up an area, so it's gonna be a big group split

Bonney's presence is noticed by the marines though, as she does leave a path of old and young in her wake

No legging below the lower cheeks but she still gets a hoodie

The Marines have found Sentomaru too

Oh, Sentomaru caught Bonney from falling, that's a chad move

Luffy spots Zoro fighting Lucci too

Zoro denies help though, telling him to focus on Kizaru

Seems that Zoro gauges Awakened Lucci as something he can handle, as he should I mean he is over 1 billion berries

Lucci meanwhile is hoping to get the Yonko No. 2 as a consolation prize so I need this guy to get the Bob Barker treatment (not him dying, the 'neuter your pets' thing)

Also it seems Zoro's pretty chill about seeing Gear Fifth Luffy...

Back with Kizaru and he's about to hit the ocean - Luffy did yeet him pretty far away

The dude can just float above the sea it seems, I mean he is light so he is - pun intended - a wave

He preps his retort with his scatter beam attack

Ah but rather than blasts he has made them all into Kizarus, he's gone full kage bunshin, or would it be hikari bunshin?

He also uses the light sword, scratching Luffy

Dawn Whip passes through the Kizarus, confirming them to be holograms (though surely they're still extensions of his body right? Idk maybe because it's light and not Smoker's smoke or Robin's doubles/giant naked kaiju it applies differently)

Not Luffy running away from the speed of light

He lines up the Kizaru's for a Dawn Stamp, but his foot passes through them all

It might be scanlations but there is 'Booming' in these names so I wonder if there's something to that compared to his moves against Lucci

An explosion makes Luffy realise that Kizaru wasn't even near him through all this, as he has Usopp in his clutches with Nami and Brook on their guard

Bit odd that, Kizaru did a whole thing with Saturn about fighting Sentomaru directly because they resolved to do it, but Luffy resolves to fight Kizaru and he quietly tries to shuffle to the side to try and kill Vegapunk

Of course, Stella isn't there to his surprise

Punk is already off on his wheels, and no respect for the tube tunnel this time

Sanji has also hitched a ride on the side of the Vega Tank 8

Stella's got a face of fury aimed at the marines, he's very focused on saving Bonney

Unfortunately that means he's blind to Kizaru aiming at him

Luffy jumps in and takes the blow, well eating the...nope not gonna finish that sentence...turning into a human jack o lantern

As a glowing god of Luffy shines out, Franky also hitches a ride on the Vega Tank 8, leaving General Franky to Lilith to move the Sunny

News is breaking that the Punks are coming down, but Atlas uses it to command the Mark IIIs to 'eradicate' every last marine

Bit of a strong word Atlas, though she is Vegapunk's personification of violence

Ominous Saturn is Ominous and will likely overrule Atlas

Oda I was literally just praising the fact that it's the first time since June-July we've not had frequent breaks and what do you do? Breaks. More Breaks. What's your address I just want to talk and shadow and marvel and ask as many questions as there are chapters...

But I also want to ask WHERE IS ROBIN? Her absences is becoming more alarming and concerning

It was another fun chapter, it's always fun to see Gear Fifth Luffy fight, it's always so silly but Kizaru may be a perfect opponent for him because he's aloof to the point of silly.

Kizaru does still confuse me though, his clones were unaffected by Haki but light is an extension of his body, when Smoker surrounded Vergo in smoke it still damaged him, when Robin makes clones of herself it's unclear if the damage stacks because sometimes it does and sometimes it doesn't. It's a small thing but still confusing, and the fact that he tried to dodge Luffy after his resolve about Sentomaru is still weird, can never quite pinpoint his character.

I still feel however that Lucci needs to be humbled, he probably won't since Zoro does seem to have the King of Hell swirls on his swords but still in no department should Lucci be Yonko commander level. What if Hattori just turns into another hulking zoan, like a Tiger, or a Bear or a Gorilla...actually not a Gorilla, not with the minority hunter joke.

But the sidequest to retrieve Bonney makes sense, kinda. Stella going down makes it a wrinkle but Sanji will at least get his righteous chivalry moment probably saving Bonney. I do hope we get something for Franky, they took his mech so the only tools he'll have is whatever Vegapunk has lying around, so there is opening for Franky to finally get some Egghead shine. Kinda hope we pull Sentomaru out too he deserves a little add to the stocks for saving Bonney. We do have to prepare ourselves for Saturn overruling the Punks' orders, perhaps even bringing the Seraphim back into play, but also bringing the sleeping giant into play too because we got nothing out of that cliffhanger, same with Kuma.

I also reiterate that we need 100% more of safe and healthy Nico Robin in these chapters, you're putting us on edge Oda let the woman have screentime and doing something, even if it's downloading all the info from Ohara that Shaka had. Because he was chatting with the Revolutionaries about anticipating his death, you think he would've made precautions? Jinbe, Chopper, Nami, Usopp and Brook could do with something too, for Chopper he will likely have to tend to Stussy but still, gotta make the whole crew show up to the marine blockade. It's also worth reminding that Caribou is on the fabriophase, the dude does like to swipe a hostage like Vegapunk, plus there is still that Blackbeard ship.

But we have another break to simmer on Luffy being a human lamp, I imagine that may become merchandising at some point.

Majestic birb: Now the muse has the power of flight with their own set of wings. Are they fluffy bird wings, leathery bat wings, or buzzing insect wings?

   All it takes is a touch and their foe can change everything, they don’t even have to touch skin. Usopp shouts a warning but it is too late. Law feels the push against his back, specifically on a shoulder blade. He stumbles forwards, a snarl on his lips as he turns to slice the fool to pieces, but then the pain starts.

   Law gasps, eyes going wide. He feels his shoulder blades buckle beneath his skin. They bulge and shift, pushing as if something needs to escape. Law doubles over, dropping to his knees as the pain becomes agony. Kikoku falls from his fingers, his Room vanishing with a splutter as his focus breaks. His shoulders twist at unnatural angles, body contorting to accommodate this change. His fingers claw at the ground, teeth clenched shut to fight off the scream.

   A sickening crack, bone breaking and warping beneath his skin. His back arches as a sharp talon pierces out from his shoulder blade, cutting through his shirt. An agonised scream tears from his throat and malformed wings burst from his back, forcing him to straighten with the pull of it. His shirt is ripped from his torso, shreds of it accompanying the torn skin and flesh hanging from the black, glistening additions.

   His pain continues for a few moments longer as the wings elongate and twist into shape, growing the leather-like membrane bats have to help them fly. It feels like an eternity to Law but in a matter of minutes those wings are complete. Law once more finds himself on his hands and knees, the pain ebbing as these new appendages settle around him. He takes a deep, shuddering breath.

   Hat plucked from the ground where it fell. The Surgeon of Death pushes himself to his feet, brushing the dirt from his hat as he moves his new wings, experimenting with their motion. Interesting how the control is near instantaneous.

   “Wouldn’t call this a detriment,” he says, voice a little strained. He places his hat back on his head, a smirk sliding onto his features. Those massive, menacing wings spread out behind him, casting a terrifying shadow. “Sure, my back tat is ruined and I'll never be able to wear shirts again but ... I like it.”

Hey! Sorry, this is sort of a serious question, but a lot people say that one piece should have ended at the timeskip, and that it’s been ruined now. What’s your opinion on the timeskip, and the quality of the series after it? (Also if possible, some hcs about poly!strawhats and the timeskip?) Thanks! -Rainy day Anon ⛈☔️

Serious questions are totally fine!

My opinion, which is purely an opinion is I strongly disagree with what they’re saying I mean. The premise of the show is Luffy saying “I’m going to be Pirate King” and a little bit right before the Time Skip all of the enemies luffy has defeated, some with relative ease and some have taken him time and strategy but he’s defeated them but there are only few people he couldn’t beat. He hasn’t beaten Garp, he hasn’t beaten the big heads of the navy and he hasn’t beaten Black Beard or any of the Emperors. Another premise that they promise is that he is to return Shanks hat to him, right up until the time skip he hasn’t met Shanks again.

So in order we’ve got in the list of what he has done(mainly)

1. Got into the grand line2. Got to the red line3. Beat everyone up until the 2Y TS

What he hasn’t done:

1. Beat his grandpa(they’re gonna fight for real)2. Found the one piece3. Become Pirate King4. Defeat all four yonkos(you kinda either have to befriend or beat them

Also, they had eluded to Haki but hadn’t really introduced it yet. It would be idiotic to not showcase how amazing haki and haki users truly are

So if they had ended it we’d have like a million things that weren’t answered and then the entire show would be ruined. (in my opinion)

Now, in my personal opinion I wish we would have got more of the actual training taking place inside the 2 year time skip. I would have loved to see Zoro’s training, and Luffy’s and Nami’s. Robins time in the revolutionary army and Franky’s self rebuild like, all that shit would be so cool to see and not when they come back they’re just like “my training has paid off” I just think it would have been dope.

As far as the quality of the series after the time skip, is the quality before the time skip. We’ve still got villains luffy beats, we’ve got the same motives everyone always has been going for, same type of plot it’s a shonen anime I don’t know what some people expected but it was the same before as it was after. We’ve still got the fan service, the wild card trio, girl crazy sanji, luffy making friends left and right, people pledging themselves in debt of the strawhats.The two year time skip was as necessary as the Chimera Ant Arc in Hunter X Hunter(if anyones seen it) some people didn’t like it but it made the characters realize faults and move forward and you need that for a good seriesOne piece isn’t the absolute best series I’ve ever seen. Like I said it’s classic shonen. However I like it because it isn’t afraid to split the crew up(as much as i hate them apart) and it isn’t afraid to be repetitive and just all around what you sign up for.The faults are also relatable they all revolve around personal issues and family toxicity, there are class issues, race issues(fishman and minks) and morality issues, while still keeping them somehow relatable despite the insane strength we see sometimes(a lot ok)

The quality has stayed the same, so as for the people who are saying it went down then they’re disappointed in something personal they didn’t see but wanted too(which is fine! I was a little miffed Sanji didn’t change but it’s just his major hindrance and can’t change :) )

In my personal opinion I love One Piece is always going to have a top place in my heart for all of it’s predictability and un-predictability and all the characters and if it helps in any way I am not a guru and if you love the show, then love it man 

Also the quality from a fans opinion(mine) is fantastic and I love it, but from like a professional(not me but from me) it’s subpar but being a fan isn’t about technicalities it’s about love so just enjoy it, I will :)

It was hard

like really hard

Most of them won’t admit it but there was a lot of crying the first night because they went from being able to constantly ground themselves by another voice or touching to nothing.

There was no contact for two years, hell most of em didn’t know where each other were(Robin and Nami had an idea, and Zoro went with recounts from brief Shanks visits and what Mihawk was willing to tell him) 

So they all completely immersed themselves into their training, it was the only thing they could do to not go insane

I’ve mentioned it before in snuggle piles hcs, but there was an intense hugging session and yeah rayleigh had to cover for longer than he wanted(with the brigade) but it was nice to see those kids so happy

Nami refused to let go of Robin and Chopper was in the middle it was great

There was a reckoning, it was luffy. He took em all down to the grass of sunny and they all just laid there

Luffy even let a few onto Sunny’s figurehead. It was pretty serious

This is when BBD protocol was first installed because readjusting to the same but different people took a hard hit on a few of them and it was dire after they relaxed from fishman

Luffy did Conquerors Haki and his partners swooned (Jimbei did too) There was never a gayer moment

ok there were but hot damn it was hot

I really want nami and zoro to get tatted and put their lovers flags on them like… that’d be dope

Franky made the sofa into a bed that can fit all of them

Vivi calls every night if she can to talk and they all cry because they miss her so much and they tell her all about Law and Jimbei and Marco and Carrot and she’s like “I NEED TO BE THERE”’

and they’re all like “yah we know”

Hello again Nee! So im back, and have another request. How would the Straw Hats, Sabo, Koala, Ace and Marco react to find scars in they S/O's Back? Heh~ :3

Luffy:

Okay so this all depends on how they got the scars.

are they potentially acne scars? Then he’s not going to freak out that much; might ask if they were sore or something but he’s not going to be fussed.

Might not even notice them until they’re pointed out to him

Now if they had been put there by someone, that’s when he gets interested.

How did it happen? Was it a fight? Did they win? 

He will ask every question under the sun unless it’s obvious tat it makes his S/O uncomfortable.

If they are there due to his S/O being attacked and someone reminds him while in the presence of the person who inflicted them, then he’s going to give them a swift punch. 

Zoro:

Has his own scars so probably wouldn’t be too fussed about it.

he’d swap stories about how he got his scars. Might take him a while to open up about very personal scars, but he will eventually tell his S/O about it.

if his S/O was to face off against the person who potentially gave them the scars, he would always look at the scars if thy were visible and think about not only how the skin has healed but so had his S/O

Less likely than Luffy to strike that person, but still very protective. 

Sanji:

He’s got quite a few from when he first started cooking and wasn’t great with a knife. His fingers are littered with them but they’re barely visible unless his hands get cold. 

Once more, if they’re acne scars he doesn’t really ask about them 

If they’re wounds, he’ll ask what happened but he won’t push for it. 

He’d never forgive the person who inflicted them.

During cuddles, he’d trace the scars with his fingers, especially if they had recently met the person who inflicted them

If they happened due to an accident, he’d keep in mind what the accident was and help them avoid such things happening again.

Brook:

He’d be fascinated if it made a shape or something

And jealous. 

Due to not having skin, he can no longer have cool looking scars. 

Like the others, if he found that his S/O’s scars were inflicted, he’d be less than impressed and any talk of jealousy would never be mentioned again.

He’d like to hear stories behind the scars, just because stories.

Similarly to Zoro, he wouldn’t harm the person who harmed his S/O but they’d never be able to scar them ever again.

He’d be protective too. 

Franky:

Once more, he’d like to know about them

He too would be protective if they were inflicted by someone. 

Maybe a little pushier than some of the other guys to know about them, but he would back off 

If his S/O was particularly self-conscious about the scars, he’d try to encourage them and not necessarily see them as a good thing, but at least come to terms with them

Chopper:

This poor baby. He’d be so sad if he saw his S/O with any scars.

He’d definitely ask if they hurt.

Would make a mental note in the future to try to patch people up so that it doesn’t leave a scar or leaves as little as possible, even though he knows this may not always be the case.

Usopp:

If his S/O got these scars through big adventures with lots of stories to tell, omg he’d just listen to them forever!

Probably a little frightened in the sense that, he wants to be a great warrior which means he’d have to face off against some strong people. Would he end up with scars like that? His thought train would then move onto the pain of getting that scars and then he’d be scared.

If they came face to face with the person who inflicted the scars, then he’d be more beside his S/O as a comforter than a protector.

I think he’s the kind that would have scars on his knees due to tripping over a lot. I don’t know why.

Nami: 

Might notice it sooner than anyone else, except Robin

Definitely would never mention acne scars, she just wouldn’t want to hit someone’s self-esteem like that.

Probably has scars on her arm where she stabbed her tattoo a lot.

If her S/O has something similar to that, a scar to get rid of something, she’d be very sympathetic and caring about it. 

If it was inflicted because of or by someone, then depending on their strength, she may dare to slap them for what they did to her S/O

Robin:

Is the least likely to mention it.

Unless her S/O brings it up, then she’s not going to say anything. 

Would like to know the story behind it but would never ask. She respects privacy. 

I have a feeling she has precious few, if any, scars and would show them to her S/O if they felt down. She’s considered to be very beautiful, even so with scars, so she’d like to demonstrate that to them.

Protective af if someone inflicted these pains on her S/O

Sabo:

This boy knows all about scars.

Definitely would help with his S/O if they had self-esteem.

Would take him a while to explain the story behind his and due to that, he’d respect it if his S/O did not want to talk about theirs.

The time that the two of them do want to share their experiences, it would probably be a very deep and emotional conversation.

Would always trace their scar with his hands when cuddling. 

If they were inflicted by a person, they’re not going to last long if they try to make a malicious move towards his S/O again. 

If it was an accident, he’d go mother hen on his S/O and try to stop them from getting hurt that badly again.

Koala:

She knows some people use whips against slaves, and if she saw that on her S/O she’d be horrified and cry for them.

I daresay she’s probably got a few scars from her slave days so if they shared this, it would make her sad

However, this would also make them a stronger couple too

If it was from an accident, she’d be like Sabo.

Ace: 

Probably has a few scars from his youth, but since he uses his flames in battle, he doesn’t have as many now

Wouldn’t think his S/O’s scars were ugly at all. 

He’d wanna know about the story behind it.

Would laugh if it was because his S/O had done something dumb.

He’d be furious if they were inflicted by someone outside of battle or if his S/O was particularly vulnerable. 

Wouldn’t go after them like he did with Blackbeard, but if he ever met that person and his S/O was still vulnerable, he’d make sure to bring the pain!

Marco:

Because of his healing abilities, he rarely has recent scars, much like Ace

Like Robin, he’s smart and smooth enough to know that he shouldn’t mention the scars. 

He’s not going to ask at all unless he feels like it’s something that they need to know, like a person coming after the crew for his S/O or something along those lines. 

Would make a note of whether his S/O was proud of their scars or not.

If they were inflicted by someone, he would not go looking for revenge but if they came after his S/O, they would not only have to deal with him but the rest of the crew too. 

If the story behind the scar was particularly interesting, he’d be impressed with them.
