Mini Lore Nuggets - Masterlist
In the Fever Part.2 Diary Entries, we learned that Z-World's government really started shooting up on the waking-nightmare-scale after they began running AI simulations to come up with the "best" policies to implement for maximum control and efficiency.
What resulted from these simulations was that the AI determined all crimes and terrorism were strictly the result of human emotions. Therefore, the best way to rid the world of such suffering must be to eradicate emotions and all which might evoke it.
Z's government developed technology to essentially numb the population - the chips we later learned about in the World Ep.1 Diary Entries. In the Fever Part.3 Diary Entries, we then got some additional info on the AI software used by the government: it was an AI system which utilized deep learning technology and ran uncontrolled for a while as the government awaited its results.
During this time, the system began treating human emotion as a bug - perhaps because it couldn't understand it - and it also started estimating humans' individual energy, thereby reducing it to a product. And since it found it to be a product, it also began treating it as a tradeable commodity.
Instead of questioning these results, the government was more likely delighted, because they immediately took over this new energy trading platform, banned all arts and emotions, and wilfully stripped the population of its humanity by treating them as nothing more than components needed to maintain the governments' idea of a utopia.

Out here in the real world, we've also begun to see the crazy amount of negative consequences since AI technology has become widely implemented in pretty much all areas of life:
#1 - Use of AI in Healthcare
In the US, the healthcare system has been relying on AI powered algorithms to guide health care decisions, but due to the data sampled by the AI, extreme racial bias has crept in and is actively putting black lives at risk. To quote Science Journal:
At a given risk score, Black patients are considerably sicker than White patients, as evidenced by signs of uncontrolled illnesses. Remedying this disparity would increase the percentage of Black patients receiving additional help from 17.7 to 46.5%.
Furthermore, the data sourced by AI for global use (such as in risk-prediction) is often extremely biased in other ways as well: radiology manuscripts are over represented, the majority of documents sourced are authored by men, and data-poor regions are grossly underrepresented, meaning the majority of information sourced comes from the US and China. #2 - YouTube's Algorithm Is Messed Up
According to the Tech Transparency Project which has gathered data from another study:
YouTube recommended hundreds of videos about guns and gun violence to accounts for boys interested in video games. Some of the recommended videos gave instructions on how to convert guns into automatic weapons or depicted school shootings. Many of the videos violated YouTube’s own policies on firearms, violence, and child safety, and YouTube took no apparent steps to age-restrict them. YouTube also recommended a movie about serial killer Jeffrey Dahmer to minor accounts.

Where Meta has recently constructed a 2 million square foot data facility in Georgia, a nearby living couple have documented the devastating consequences to the environment and their lives.
Facilities like these are used to power stuff like Chat GPT, Gemini, etc.:
In order for them to function as needed, they put a huge toll on the power grid and require the construction of an entirely new infrastructure atop the usual servers, storage systems and networking equipment.
For one, AI data centres require high-performance graphics processing units (GPUs) which come with their own required infrastructure needs (advanced storage, networking, energy and cooling capabilities). The sheer number of GPUs necessary for AI use alone then already add a ton more square footage to the size of the data centre.
On top of that, living in a county with a data centre like this in the US drives up the cost of electricity for everyone in the county.
And what does all this mean for the environment? Deforestation. Light pollution. Air pollution. Here is a still frame from a video shot by a woman living over 366 meters away from an AI centre's construction site:
All this pollution then started seeping into the ground water, resulting in this:
And what does that mean for someone living nearby? Dishwashers breaking. Washing machines breaking. Water pressure dropping to the point where you can't even flush a toilet anymore because all the pipes are clogged with sediment.

According to the Washington Post in collaboration with the University of California, Riverside, writing a single 100-word email in Open AI's ChatGPT is the equivalent of consuming just over one bottle of water.
Shaolei Ren, an associate professor of engineering at UC Riverside, says that while "We haven’t come to the point yet where AI has tangibly taken away our most essential natural water resources," the use of AI in places with frequent droughts has caused rising tension between communities who need the water and data centers. Not to mention, hardware production pollutes water, per a study initially published in January 2015 in the Journal of Cleaner Production, due to the extraction of precious minerals like boron, silicon, and phosphorous.

#5 - Use of AI in Warfare
Israel has been using untested and undisclosed AI-powered databases in order to identify targets and plan bombing campaigns throughout Gaza, which has reportedly led to the loss of thousands of civilian lives.
And who provided this technology? Google. For fear of losing business to Amazon. And not just them. Microsoft too has been collaborating with the Israeli military, as has Amazon who collaborated with Google in 2021 to establish "Project Nimbus" which continues on to this day with zero transparency or accountability.

With AI-generated art flooding social media and streaming platforms on the daily, it's getting harder and harder for new artists to enter the scene. On top of that, all the recommendations you're getting online - be that on an image search, streaming platform or elsewhere - are also all the result of AI-powered algorithms.
And as we all know, generative AI is trained on data banks filled to the brim with stolen art from non-consenting artists across the globe - be that musicians, painters, photographers, voice actors, chefs, or writers.
All of this ultimately shapes the world we live in. Those in the know are now full of mistrust of corporations, new information, articles, and media. Anything and anyone is being accused of using AI when they post something online by skeptics, and those who don't know any better are living in blissful ignorance while they're being spoon-fed misinformation left, right, and center.

Not all AI is bad, of course. There have been major breakthroughs in all fields of science thanks to AI which will bring about positive change for (hopefully) all of humanity.
But the problem is that the technology is developing far too quickly for lawmakers to keep up with (as planned, most likely, by all the billionaire tech bros on this planet) and generative AI in particular should have never been made publicly accessible. It should have remained in the hands of trained professionals who know how to use it responsibly.

On April 15, U.S. chipmaker Nvidia published a filing to the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission indicating that the government has restricted the company from selling its less advanced graphics processing unit (GPU)—the H20—to China. The company is now required to obtain a license from the U.S. Commerce Department’s Bureau of Industry and Security to sell the H20 and any other chips “achieving the H20’s memory bandwidth, interconnect bandwidth, or combination thereof” to China, according to the filing.
Similarly, a filing from AMD stated that the firm is now restricted from selling its MI308 GPU to China—and likely any chips that have equal or higher performance in the future. Intel’s artificial intelligence accelerator Gaudi will also be restricted under the new control threshold, which reportedly appears to limit chips with total DRAM bandwidth of 1,400 gigabytes per second or more, input/output bandwidth of 1,100 GB per second or more, or a total of both of 1,700 GB per second or more.
The possible new threshold not only restricts the advanced chips that were already controlled but also the less advanced chips from Nvidia, AMD, and other chipmakers, including Nvidia’s H20, AMD’s MI308X, and Intel’s Gaudi, which were used to comply with the export control threshold and intended primarily for sale in the Chinese market.
The new restriction came roughly a week after NPR reported that the Trump administration had decided to back off on regulating the H20. Prior to that report, curbs on the H20 and chips with comparable performance had been widely anticipated by analysts on Wall Street, industry experts in Silicon Valley, and policy circles in Washington.
The latest set of chip controls could be seen as following on from export restrictions during the Biden administration and as continuation of the Trump administration’s efforts to limit China’s access to advanced AI hardware. But the new measure carries far-reaching industry implications that could fundamentally reshape the landscape of China’s AI chip market.
The impact of the new rule on the industry is profound. With the new controls, Nvidia is estimated to immediately lose about $15 billion to $16 billion, according to a J.P. Morgan analysis. AMD, on the other hand, faces $1.5 billion to 1.8 billion in lost revenue, accounting for roughly 10 percent of its estimated data center revenue this year.
Yet the implications go beyond immediate financial damage. If the restriction persists, it will fundamentally reshape the Chinese AI chip market landscape and mark the start of a broader retreat for U.S. AI accelerators from China. That includes not only GPU manufacturers such as Nvidia, AMD, and Intel but also firms providing application-specific integrated circuits—another type of chips targeting specific AI workloads, such as Google’s TPU and Amazon Web Servies’ Trainium.
The new rule will make it nearly impossible for U.S. firms such as Nvidia and AMD to design and sell chips that are export-compliant and competitive in the Chinese market. That means these firms’ market share in the Chinese AI chip market will decline over time, as they are forced to withdraw almost all of their offerings of both advanced and less advanced chips while Chinese firms gradually capture the remaining market.
The H20 and the upgraded H20E are already only marginally ahead of their Chinese competitors. Huawei’s latest AI chip Ascend 910C delivers 2.6 times the computational performance of the H20, although it offers 20 percent less memory bandwidth, which is vital for the inference training and reasoning models that are a key part of modern AI.
The H20’s memory bandwidth, along with Nvidia’s widely adopted software stack, a parallel computing platform and programming model that enables efficient GPU utilization for AI, high-performance computing, and scientific workloads, have been key differentiators driving demand from Chinese AI firms and keeping them competitive in the Chinese market. China acquired more than 1 million units of the H20 in 2024 and has been stockpiling the chip in response to looming concerns about controls since early 2025.
The narrowing gap between the H20 and Huawei’s 910C highlights the growing ability of Chinese AI chipmakers to meet domestic compute demand without foreign GPUs. As of today, Huawei’s 910C is in mass production, with units already delivered to customers and broader mass shipments reportedly starting in May. Most recently, Huawei is reportedly approaching customers about testing its enhanced version of the 910-series GPU—the 910D. Its next-generation chip—the Ascend 920—is expected to enter mass production in the second half of 2025.
Notably, Huawei is just one of many Chinese firms poised to fill the gap left by U.S. suppliers. Chinese AI chip companies such as Cambricon, Hygon, Enflame, Iluvatar CoreX, Biren, and Moore Threads are actively developing more competitive domestic AI chips to capture this expanding market.
Over the next few years, Chinese firms such as Alibaba, ByteDance, Baidu, and Tencent will likely continue to rely on existing inventories of Nvidia and AMD chips—such as the H100, H200, H800, and H20—acquired prior to the implementation of export controls. For example, ByteDance’s current GPU inventory in China is rumored to include 16,000-17,000 units of the A100, 60,000 units of the A800, and 24,000-25,000 units of the H800. Its overseas businesses likely have more than 20,000 units of the H100, 270,000 of the H20, and tens of thousands of cards such as the L20 and L40.
Advanced chips, including the limited amount of Nvidia’s Blackwell-series GPUs, may also continue entering the Chinese market via illicit or gray-market channels, given the enduring performance advantage and wide adoption of these chips over most Chinese domestic alternatives. The Blackwell GPUs and other cutting-edge chips could still be sold legally to the oversea data centers of leading Chinese AI companies to potentially train their AI models.
Similarly, other leading Chinese AI firms still possess significant chip stockpiles. Assuming export controls continue to restrict Chinese AI companies’ access to advanced computing resources, existing GPU inventories should still enable model development over the next several years. Typically, GPUs have a four- to five-year depreciation lifecycle, providing a window during which Chinese domestic GPU manufacturers can advance their capabilities and begin supplying more competitive chips to support domestic AI development.
Ultimately, time is now on the Chinese firms’ side. As inventories of foreign GPUs gradually depreciate and become obsolete, Chinese firms are expected to shift toward and adopt more domestically produced AI chips to meet ongoing compute needs at a time when local chipmakers offer more powerful alternatives. China’s overall computing demand will steadily rise, given the continued advancement of the AI industry, and such incremental growth in demand will likely be met by Chinese AI chipmakers.
As a result, the tens of billions of dollars in revenue that would have gone to Nvidia and AMD will be gradually captured by Chinese AI firms in the coming years. In a rough assessment, the latest ban causes Nvidia and AMD instant losses of about $16.5 billion to $17.8 billion—about 70 percent of what Huawei spent on research and development in 2024.
This new market paradigm will not only strengthen the market position and financial sustainability of domestic Chinese AI chipmakers but also enhance their capacity to reinvest in R&D. In turn, this will accelerate innovation, improve competitiveness, and fortify China’s broader AI hardware supply chain—ultimately contributing to the long-term resilience and advancement of Chinese AI capabilities.
More importantly, the growing domestic adoption of Chinese GPUs enables local firms to refine their products more efficiently through accelerated and larger feedback loops from local enterprises. As the Nvidia-led GPU ecosystem stalls and gradually retreats from the Chinese market, this shift creates space for local players to build a domestic GPU ecosystem—one that may increasingly lock out foreign competitors and raise re-entry barriers over time.
A total ban on the H20 would likely slow China’s short-term growth in AI compute capacity by removing a key source of advanced chips. But the medium- to longer-term impact is less clear. Chinese AI companies, as previously noted, remain very capable of developing their AI by using a large number of existing Nvidia and AMD GPUs for the next few years, alongside a growing supply of improving domestic alternatives. The U.S. leadership’s ultimate goal of using export controls to constrain China’s AI development remains uncertain, as the gap between the two countries’ AI model capabilities appears to be narrowing rather than widening.
What is clear, however, is the broader industry impact of the new controls. If sustained, they will mark the beginning of a major withdrawal of U.S. AI chipmakers from the Chinese market—paving the way for a significant boost to domestic Chinese AI chipmakers. In trying to isolate China, the United States may end up giving Chinese firms a leg up.

Excerpt from this Op-Ed from the New York Times:
To keep the lights on, many utility companies are proposing to build dozens of new power plants that burn natural gas. North Carolina-based Duke Energy alone wants to add 8.9 gigawatts of new gas-fired capacity — more than the entire country added in 2023. Using their own projections of soaring energy demands as justification, these companies are also pushing back on the climate targets set by their states and the Biden administration.
If state regulators sign off on these plans, they will be gambling with our country’s future. We need to electrify everything from cars to appliances to slow climate change, but we won’t be able to reach our climate goals if we power all of those machines with dirty energy.
There is a better way. But to get there, legislators will need to overhaul the incentives driving utilities to double down on natural gas, so that they can turn a profit without cooking the planet.
Companies like Duke, Dominion Energy and Georgia Power argue that they need more gas-fired plants to reliably provide power during times of peak demand — for instance, on a hot summer weekday afternoon when home cooling systems and data servers are all humming at maximum output, and the grid strains to keep up. But those peaks tend to materialize only for a few dozen hours per year, and there are ways to deal with them that don’t require a massive amount of new methane-burning infrastructure.
The real reason the utilities want to build these plants is quite simple: The more stuff they build, the more money they make. Regulators let utilities charge their customers enough money to cover what they spend on assets like combustion turbines and wires, plus a generous rate of return (up to 10 percent) for their investors. This longstanding arrangement incentivizes power providers to build expensive things whether society needs them or not, in lieu of lower-cost, cleaner options, and to invoke their duty to keep the lights on as a post hoc rationalization.
Fortunately, utilities have plenty of ways to meet this new need.
They include “virtual power plants” — when technologies such as home batteries, rooftop solar systems, smart water heaters and thermostats are linked together and managed via software to provide the same services as a conventional power plant. Utilities in Vermont, Colorado and Massachusetts are already using them, to quickly respond to rising demand at a much lower cost than operating natural gas combustion turbines. According to one estimate, virtual power plants could lower U.S. utilities’ costs by as much as $35 billion over the next decade.
Utilities could also accelerate efforts to replace outdated transmission lines with newer ones that can carry double the electric current and to bring more battery storage online. They can compensate customers for using less energy during times when demand is high and invest far more in energy efficiency, helping customers to adopt devices that use less electricity.
All of these solutions would save customers money and reduce carbon emissions. They could, according to a Department of Energy analysis, meet the entire projected growth in U.S. peak electricity demand over the next decade.

Digital Measurements vs Quantum Measurements
1 Hertz is the equivalent of 2 bits per second calculation. We measure the speed and throughput of your average processor today in gigahertz with a theoretical speedlimit of 4 GigaHertz.
That speed limit is why we have decided to expand the number of cores in a processor, and why we don't typically see processors above that outside of a liquid-cooled environment.
Your average standard processor has between 4 and 8 cores, with the capability to run twice as many simultaneously occuring threads. Or two simultaneously occuring processes per individual core.
Your average piece of software, for comparison usually runs single-threaded. While your 3D software (and chrome), by necessity required to be run multi-threaded in order to output the video portion. Typically, that software relies on GPUs which are geared to as many threads as possible, in order to produce at least 60 images per second. But can utilize your core CPU instead if your device doesn't have one.
When you have many multiple cores and/processors in an individual system, you're now relying on a different value; FLOPs (floating-point operations per second) which is so much higher in scale than your average CPU calculation, and requires measuring the output of many simultaneously operating parts. This means it may be lower than what you'd expect simply by adding them together.
Flops calculate simultaneously occurring floating-point operations.
Now Quantum mechanics is already the next step of technological evolution, but we haven't figured out how to measure it in a way that is useful yet. 1 qHertz for example; would this be the quantum processor's ability to do binary calculations? That would overall limit the quantum processor's ability since it's having to emulate a binary state.
Theoretically; one Quantum particle should be capable of doing 2 FLOP simultaneously. And the algorithms and computing we use at the quantum level are so far divorce from a Binary/Digital representation it would be hard to compare the two directly.
Even in the binary/digital world there is no direct observable correlation between Hertz and FLOPs. Despite the fact that we know approximately more Hertz can do approximately more FLOPs.
<aside>I keep asking myself; are we sure we don't already have quantum computing already? What if proprietary chips and corporate secrecy means we already use qBits at the hardware level and everybody else just doesn't know it yet.</aside>
At the base state; a qBit is capable of storing the equivalent of many bits of data, and will be able to perform the equivalent of a terra-flop of calculations on that one qBit per second.
But it's a single variable in contrast to our current average memory storage of 8Gigabytes that can be sub-divided into millions of separate variables.
72 qBits would allow for 144 variable declarations, every two variables being part of the same qBit and used in special ways that we can't do with regular bits.
Or to put it another way; a single floating point number takes 32bits of information, a double floating point number takes 64 bits of information.
At the minimum, one qBit can store at least 2 double precision floating point numbers (and each one of those numbers could theoretically be the equivalent of a triple or quadruple floating point in overall limitation.)
Therefore a single qBit can store between 128 bits and 512 bits (this is a conservative estimate). However, they're limited to how small they can be sub-divided into individual variables. By the time we get to MegaQBits, we'll be able to do so much more than we can currently do with bits it'll be absolutely no-contest.
However; there will be growing pains in Quantum Computing where we can't define as many variables as we can in Digital.
