the real Mariluke Struggle: marius wants to stay over at Luke’s place all the time bc no pax, no crazy sad family stuff etc but luke’s bed is uncomfy!!! meanwhile luke wants to be at the von hagen crib bc wow marius has a 10/10 cloud heaven bed. solution is to obviously get luke a new bed but can you imagine trying to get that up three floors?? absolute hell.

this entire ask is so good and so FUNNY. it's problem after problem. i love that luke's bed is uncomfy, it probably is WELL past its due date and there are bits where the spring is starting to come out and thats making annoying lumps on the bed but luke doesnt replace it on the grounds that "it still works" which is like, yknow, his standards are below sea level. in spite of that, marius totally likes luke's place because of all those reasons, also because of luke, and because it's closer to pax than the estate which makes it easy to drop by, and because it's genuinely nice and cozy place.

meanwhile luke loves marius' bed and marius' bedroom (theres so much space???? the tv is so big??? the bathroom is like a 5 star hotel bathroom????) but he still gets intimidated by how Fancy(TM) the von hagen estate is and also theyve probably been caught making out like several times by vincent and one horrific time by AUSTIN so like, there are definitely perks to luke's setup where the only living being who cohabits in his space is peanut, a literal bird.

marius can buy luke an absolutely resplendent new mattress. it's so good it makes luke realize he's had back pain he didnt even know about until he test laid down on the bed at the luxury bed department store (??? idk how rich people beds work or where they come from, do they hatch from eggs?) because suddenly that back pain is Gone. it's a fantastic bed. marius cant wait to nap in it with luke and also fuck him silly on it. but like, yeah, it needs to go up Three Floors.

i assume marius probably hired movers from the luxury bed place but then those movers are confounded when they accidentally get the mattress just lodged-in STUCK in luke's narrow stairwell headed up to his living space. like, it's really wedged in there. luke and marius try to get it un-wedged themselves and theyre successful but it takes more than an hour and also luke wondering about the geometrics of the entire situation

luke: what if i just bust a hole in my wall to get it out

like i said, standards below sea level

by the time they get the bed onto luke's palette bedframe, they both just conk out completely tired and asleep on it. and to the mattress' credit, they Do get a very restful and deep sleep while on it

now marius just has to buy luke new bedsheets because luke's old bedsheets still have some blood spatter stains from when luke came home from missions too tired to clean himself up. but thats a conundrum for another day

holy shit i love red dragon

watched Manhunter with my sister (her first time) and during the part with Dolarhyde and Reba attempting a relationship, she mentioned that it felt like a genre shift from noir procedural to romantic drama. She's so right to say it!

She also astutely pointed out that this section of the film felt like a fantasy – something sweet in the moment, but it's not like a real relationship between the characters could actually happen. In a way, Dolarhyde's conflict between being unable to balance career (if we can call it that) and his desire for domesticity reminded me of Frank's big dilemma in Thief, which came out a few years prior. He longs for a wife, kids, and a house with a yard, but of course his criminal past and present prohibits him from a chance at the American Dream. (As a side note, @rocket-eighty-eight has some REALLY GOOD fic about Frank and you should read it.)

In a lot of ways, Frank is a prototype of Neil McCauley: a master criminal who's somehow maintained his principles and a code of honor (yeahhhh boi love a good code hero, or antihero in this case). Neil says he doesn't want to live a normal life, he wouldn't know how, but Heat 2 shows us that he had it all and watched it all crumble. Neil definitely isn't cut out for a regular-type life, in his words, but that doesn't mean we have to believe him when he says that he doesn't want it.

But back to Manhunter – Dolarhyde fights against his impulses, but goes back to what he knows when his heart gets broken. The song choice Mann uses, the Prime Movers' "Strong As I Am," is so perfect for his character that when I first watched the movie I thought the song was written specifically for it: "Strong as I am / there's something 'bout this thing that scares me." Associating those lyrics with his character also helps to make him sympathetic in that moment. He feels rejected and he's fighting the monster on his back, to paraphrase a line from Bryan Fuller's Hannibal. When he gives into the monster – or, like I said earlier, his "career," his vocation, whatever you wanna call it – he cuts himself off from domesticity for good.

Dolarhyde is a different kind of "bad guy" than Frank or Neil. They don't kill unless they have to, they've got codes they live by. The only reason Will is able to kill Dolarhyde before Dolarhyde kills Reba is because of inner conflict – he still loves her, even if they can't ever have a future together. Twas beauty killed the beast, or something along those lines. It's a monster movie trope as old as time.

It would be easy to compare Dolarhyde to other Mann canon serial killers like Waingro or Otis Lloyd Wardell or even Vincent from Collateral (there might be something about that latter comparison, but I'm gonna have to sit on it.) I just think it's interesting that Mann took the conflict he used for Frank (a sympathetic, antiheroic protagonist) and gave it to the antagonist for Manhunter. It also shows us how lucky Will Graham has it, and how much he's willing to fight for and protect his family's well-being. The ending is the happiest I've ever seen in a Mann movie, even if I get the sense that Will's been changed by that case. I'd say he's earned that happy ending.

Foi uma semana estranha… Começando novas rotinas, pegando mais tarefas domésticas, lidando com minha filhota doentinha + nova rotina de alimentação e medicamentos dela (everything’s okay, she’s fine now), além de ser fim de mês. 

Foi difícil conseguir focar em mim, em realizar o que propus a mim mesma e que não prejudicaria ninguém além de mim, por isso também acabei estendendo a semana até domingo para me permitir descansar entre tudo que tava rolando.

Chamei as minhas páginas matinais de páginas livres, acho que nem fiz nenhuma delas pela manhã, mas entendo como escrever logo ao iniciar o dia pode amplificar seus benefícios.

No exercício Vidas Imaginárias, escolhi ser atriz essa semana. Não tive como planejar nada fora de casa, então optei por gravar um monólogo de algum filme que eu curtisse. Mal sabia eu que monólogos eram tão difíceis… Gravei algumas vezes, nenhuma ficou perfeita, mas a última tomada foi satisfatória.

Transformei minhas objeções maldosas em afirmações criativas & hoje as colei em minha parede.

Não fiz nenhuma das Viagens no Tempo, difícil lembrar de coisas & tava me sentindo empacada de tanto tentar...

Dei uns tragos num beck, pedi duas horas ininterruptas com a sala toda para mim, me acomodei e afundei na história visualmente deslumbrante. “Cada um dos 65.000 quadros do filme é uma pintura a óleo sobre tela, usando a mesma técnica de Van Gogh, tudo feito por uma equipe de 115 pintores.” Foi como assistir a uma exposição de museu com transições de cena lindíssimas, uma experiência incrível! Queria assistir a esse filme desde seu lançamento, mas sabia que queria realmente apreciá-lo e nunca me dava esse tempo, fiquei muito feliz de começar essa jornada com esse encontro tão esperado comigo mesma.

Prime Ministers laud Kittitian founder of LIAT airline

Fifty-five years after the establishment of LIAT (1974) Ltd by Mr. Frank Delisle, a national of St. Kitts and Nevis, in October 1956, with a single Piper Apache aircraft, the airline continues to advance the goal of Sir Frank to provide safe and reliable air transport to the islands and peoples of the eastern Caribbean.

Shareholder Prime Ministers Dr. the Hon. Ralph Gonsalves of St. Vincent and the Grenadines; Dr. the Hon. Baldwin Spencer of Antigua and Barbuda and the Hon. Freundel Stuart of Barbados in a joint statement noted that from such humble beginnings, today’s LIAT now represents the primary mover of people within the Caribbean region

Sir Frank Henry Sapenne Delisle, was born on the island of St. Kitts on the 5th Dec 1918, the Son of Harry Delisle and May (Stephens) Delisle. Frank received his early education in Halifax, Canada then went to neighbouring Anguilla as a young man to work in the Agriculture Department.

Frank Delisle, got the aviation bug after some unofficial trips on US Marine Corps anti-submarine patrols from Anguilla during the Second World War.

He then migrated to Montserrat where he was employed with the Montserrat Company Ltd. as a manager of a fruit plantation in Montserrat, he took time out to take flying lessons and began flying a two-seat Aeronca from Montserrat in the early 1950s. It was there that his love and interest in aviation developed.

A former airline captain, Frank S. Delisle, is one of the most engaging and resourceful characters one could wish to meet on one's Caribbean.

Sir Frank played a tremendous role in bringing aviation to the Caribbean region.

Sir Frank DeLisle was the founder of the Leeward Islands Air Transport (better known Caribbean-wide as LIAT), the oldest airline in the sub-Caribbean region.

With a vision of transforming air transportation in the region, Delisle started the Leeward Islands Air Transport Service Ltd. on 20 October 1956, on the island of Montserrat the year of the opening of Blackburne Airport.

This was preceded by operating from small landing strip he built on his plantation in Olveston in 1953. The strip was only 800 ft long and had a six degree incline. All take-offs were down hill and often down wind. Landings were made against the incline.

In those days LIAT was a privately owned one-man operation with a fleet of one aircraft and a non-scheduled service between Montserrat and Antigua a sector distance of just 35-miles, blue water passage, using a Twin engine Piper Apache. His available payload was just three passengers and/or some freight which could amount to little more than an arm full of parcels.

Nevertheless the service was popular among the islanders and the next year, the airlines schedule was widened to include St. Kitts, St. Eustatius, and St. Marteen.

Soon the Apache was reinforced with a twin engine Beechcraft Bonanza that could carry six passengers.

Gradually each island in the chain carved out miniature airports so that they can become aerially linked.

LIAT was incorporated in the Colony of Antigua, British West Indies, in 1956. At the time of its incorporation, its immediate purpose was to was to conduct a local inter-island operation with small aircraft within the British Caribbean area.

With the support of the late V.C. Bird, former Prime Minister of Antigua and Barbuda, DeLisle’s vision grew and LIAT moved its headquarters from Montserrat to Antigua and their Hanger, a 60ft x 60ft structure, was erected to accommodate the Herons. Alongside the first Hanger was the fuselage of another Heron which was modified to become an office of the accounting department.

The airline continued to grow and develop with the co-operation of other regional leaders.

In 1957 shortly after its incorporation, control of LIAT through purchase of 75% of its issued and outstanding stock was acquired by British West Indian Airways (BWIA). LIAT became a subsidiary of BWIA.

It was considered that control of LIAT by BWIA would be mutually advantageous in that BWIA would participate through LIAT in providing local inter-island service with small aircraft and that LIAT would receive financial and other assistance in the conduct and expansion of its local service operations.

LIAT maintained a home base at Coolidge Airport Antigua, equipped for routine maintenance and for training of personnel, its fleet consisted of four six passenger Twin Bonanza aircraft recently augmented by two 48 passenger AVRO-748 aircraft, there were over 90 employees, including 14 pilots; its capital structure consisted of 1,500 common shares of $100 par value, of which 805 shares were issued and outstanding of which 75% of such outstanding shares were owned by BWIA; not withstanding the a measure of autonomy LIAT was financially and administratively dependant on an integrated with BWIA.

By 1960 LIAT had six aircraft four Bonanzas, a pair of de Havilland Herons and was flying as far as Trinidad.

By now the airline was flying scheduled services in a 1,400 mile arc in one direction to Puerto Rico(via St. Thomas) and to Trinidad via Guadeloupe, Dominica, Barbados and St. Vincent in the other.

In 1965 Delisle obtained his first turbo prop, an Avro 748, registered VP-LIK, and a second one a year later in 1966 due to the airline's decision to phase out the Herons, the Airlines Headquarters moving to Coolidge Airport to allow the Avro 748 to be operated.

In 1968, LIAT was operating some flights via an agreement with Eastern Air Lines to provide passenger feed at this U.S. based air carrier's hub located in San Juan, Puerto Rico and was flying "Eastern Partner" service between San Juan and Antigua, St. Kitts and St. Maarten

For the first time LIAT operated two 19 seat Twin Otters, which were replaced by 1970 by five Britten Norman Islanders.

Every winter from 1967 onwards, LIAT leased a single 748 from Autair and later from Court.

In October 1971 Court Line acquired a 75% interest in LIAT from British West Indian Airways, BWIA the National Airline of Trinidad & Tobago and the remaining 25% on the 1st October 1972 for the total cost of £790,000, at that time LIAT’s liabilities exceeded the book value of tangable assets by £1,461,000 so the total cost of LIAT’s goodwill was £2,251,000.

LIAT consistently made losses up to the time of the takeover. The purchase agreement required BWIA to convert US$ 2,500,000current account with LIAT into a long term loan.

In 1972 (Sir) Frank Delisle founded Carib Aviation with a single twin-prop aircraft.

Carib Aviation provided charter and scheduled flights throughout the Caribbean from its main base in Antigua.

At its peak the company employed 63 personnel, including some 15 pilots and 22 engineering staff.

The office facilities were at VC Bird International Airport, accommodating administration, accounts, operations and traffic departments.

An additional terminal office facility was located at Robert L. Bradshaw International Airport in Saint Kitts and Nevis. Carib Aviation also operated the DOMINICA AIR TAXI service between Antigua, Saint Lucia and Canefield Airport as well as a local feeder for LIAT.

On Tuesday 30 September 2008, Bruce Kaufman, new owner and CEO of the airline, announced that he was forced to cancel all flights the very same day because of no flight crews available.

He accused LIAT to have hired 7 of his Twin Otter pilots within a few days, breaking an agreement between the two airlines signed earlier in 2008 and leaving him with no choice to stop all operations.

Sir Frank DeLisle also founded Radio Montserrat, the first radio station in the sub-region, which is still operational today.

Frank Sapenne Delisle died at age 83 on Friday, November 1st, 2002.

It was the same day that he was honoured with a knighthood for his outstanding contribution to the aviation industry in Antigua and Barbuda and the Caribbean as a whole.

Frank is buried in St John's Public Cemetery, Antigua and Barbuda.

Sonrío de lado y coloco mi mano sobre la suya, levantándome de mi asiento.

El hombre sonríe triunfante y me lleva con él. A la pista de baile.

Me coloco al frente suyo, y pone una de sus manos en mi cintura y la otra la entrelaza con la mía. Yo coloco mi mano restante sobre su hombro y empezamos a movernos lentamente, a la par del ritmo musical.

—¿Es de muy mal gusto si me atrevo a preguntar por su nombre?

—¿Por qué quisiera saber mi nombre?

—Me gusta conocer a mi pareja de baile.

—Entonces es de esos tipos que les gusta hablar mientras bailan.

—¿No le gusta?

—Prefiero manteneme en silencio.

No dice nada y solo sonríe a medias.

Me da un giro y me lleva un poco más cerca a él, colocando nuevamente su mano en casi toda mi cintura.

Suelto un suspiro ahogado.

Nuestras miradas se conectan a la par.

—¿Fue demasiado?

—No, descuide—digo, algo nerviosa.

¿Pero que me sucede? Me ha tomado por sorpresa.

—Intuo que no esperaba esto.

—Debo admitir que no—sonrío nerviosa.

—¿La hago sentir intimidada, señorita?

Trago saliva despacio.

—N-o. Claro que no.

—Miente—acerca su rostro unos centímetros más—, puedo sentir como su pecho sube y baja porque su respiración se ha acelerado, y como trata de evitar mi mirada.

—No es cierto.

—Debo confesar que la he estado observando desde que llegó, me he sentido atraído hacia usted desde el primer momento en que la vi entrar con este vestido rojo que deja ver su figura envidiable, y me he sentido hipnotizado con su mirada. Me dije a mi mismo que no podía retirarme de esta fiesta hasta que baile conmigo.

Entre abro los labios, algo sorprendida.

Quiero decir algo, pero no puedo. Las palabras no sale de mi boca y ni siquiera puedo formular una.

—Así que le pregunto nuevamente: ¿Cuál es su nombre, bella dama?

El tono de voz con el que pronunció eso, hizo que una corriente eléctrica pase por mi espalda.

—Valerie—respondo, mirando sus ojos. Esa mirada intimidante que me observa solo a mí—. Joven-

—Vincent—culmina por mí—. Es un gusto conocerla, señorita Valerie.

La música se detiene y puedo notar por el rabillo del ojo como las parejas se van separando. Pero nosotros no.

Es todo lo contrario. Me acerca más a él y susurra en mi oído:

—He quedado encantado con sus movimientos, y ha sido todo un placer haber bailado con usted. Espero volver a encontrarnos, lo desearé con ansias, Valerie.

Culmina y se aleja de mi lentamente, dándose la vuelta y caminando hacia la salida principal. Dejándome parada, viendo su espalda alejarse más y más.
