One more thing about me. I'm almost totally blind. I don't know if Tumblr even makes it possible to add alt text to images, but if it does it would be awesome if people would do so. As for me, you probably won't see many pictures from this space.

Today I learned that the anti-AI software we're putting in our art interferes with technology for the blind that they use to describe images. :( ALT text and ID's are even more important than ever! I see them well-used here, Xitter, and Bluesky.. but rarely on Facebook. Poke your fam if they don't give IDs. I know I'm gonna be better about it on FB.

This New Orleans institution still on the air, it's thriving. It’s all thanks to donations, an army of volunteers and listeners that depend on the very unique services they provide.

This rare radio station—located inside an old Victorian home—plays just about anything, except music. That’s not the only thing that makes WRBH Radio unique; the station uses their resources to help people with a visual impairment. Every day, a stream of volunteers at the station bring listeners just about anything that comes in print, including news headlines, grocery ads and even horoscopes. The station provides local news, as well as national news. That also includes the funnies from national newspapers. The station and its volunteers are making impacts on people’s lives—people like Tim Lindsley, who lost his vision later in life. Lindsley, a loyal listener in Thibodaux, Louisiana, says not only does WRBH bring him the news he can no longer read, it also brings a companion, of sorts, into his home. Okay so, you're a Tumblr Mobile user and you know, adding screenshots of text is inaccessible to many people but the app doesn't let you copy paste the tags.
So here's how you get around that (on Android), for iOS I don't know, but there's a few websites that let you upload images to grab the text! I will link one in a reblog so this post can show up in tags!
You take your screenshot of the tags, just like you would if you were gonna add the screenshot. You go into your Google Photos app. This should come pre-installed and is probably the standard app you use for you photos, though some phones do come with separate gallery. It's icon is this very reduced graphic flower with four leaves. This one:
Tumblr media
[ID a screenshot of the logo END]
Then, at the bottom of your screen, right in between edit and delete, should be Google Lense.
Tumblr media
[ID: screenshot of the bar at the bottom of the screen in Google photos END]
You will want to click that. Now it will mark all the text it recognizes and if you click into it, you can copy it✨✨✨ this is what that looks like:
Tumblr media
[ID: A screenshot of Google Lense. I have the picture of @pocketsizedquasar s tags open and the word "been" is marked blue, a bar at the bottom gives the options, copy text, search, listen and translate END]
This doesn't just work with screenshots, but all images, even photos of handwritten text, though you might have to correct a lot depending on handwritings.
This is ALWAYS a good thing to do! Pasting text instead of adding it as screenshots creates an overall more accessible environment. But it is especially good etiquette to do it when the person whose post you're adding an image to spends a lot of time and energy on keeping their blog accessible. It can often be seen as rude or inconsiderate, when something inaccessible is added to an otherwise accessible blog.
