Week 2, Day 2: Vlogging Masterclass (ft Vlogstar Challenge)

So in week 2, on day 2 we were privileged to receive a vlogging masterclass from Tomi who helps to run/ judge the Vlogstar Challenge.

We were taught 'The 5 Filming Fundamentals':

This was my first ever vlog and I really enjoyed it. I did, however, encounter a few hiccups along the way...

1. Tripod creativity

I had to be very creative when it came to setting up a tripod to get the exact height.

2. Editing process

In the editing process, I tried to rotate the footage so the writing could be more clear but it was very difficult.

3. One minute

As it was only a minute long I had a lot of footage that I couldn’t use.

4. Thumbnail design

organising a photo that would be striking and make people want to watch it. I also designed an SR logo and added a title. 

What I learned:

How to edit on a very small timescale

How to post on youtube

make a catchy thumbnail

how to add text and music to my video

What I could change:

My recipe may have been a bit long maybe a simpler bake would have been better for the time frame we had.

filming on my phone as well editing on my phone seemed to have its difficulties.

After understanding the fundamentals, practically shooting vlogs and brainstorming a lot of ideas, we were given a task which was a mock-up version of our #Vlogstarchallenge submission on Thursday 27th September 2018. 

I worked with @lynobi and we decided to talk about Grenfell tower and just touch on some points we were not happy with. We then creatively decided that we could shoot it as if it's a trailer for the upcoming vlog. 

We started, for the first time, with editing in iMovie. I feel like this is the first time of many and that this vlog was ok for a first try. Within the 45 min we were given we chose a quiet location with great lighting and used all the fundamental rules we learnt in the morning to make sure we used them again in this vlog. I enjoyed working with a partner on this vlog it meant we learnt things quicker and together. It was almost a trial and error situation with editing but I feel we got there in the end.
