VoiceTeam Podfics by Kiwiana: Round One

I'm deep in the weeds of @voiceteam this month, and i was going to wait until round one closed for submissions to post a roundup, but I reached my point cap, so: below are the podfics I recorded and posted this week!

An Amateur's Guide to Piping That Cream and Beating That Meat, written by @firenati0n. Standard podfic is 38 min 29 sec, OR you can listen to me recording a second version of this podfic while trying to make tres leches for the first time in my life, which is 45 min 24 sec and involves way more asides and random commentary.

Alex is an anonymous thirst-trapping chef on TikTok. Henry is an amateur cook who needs a recipe for Friendsgiving. Alex knows Henry's watching. Henry doesn't know it's Alex. Shenanigans ensue.

In honor of Voiceteam 2024 (which is happening right now), and for the Chip In challenge, the week from May 13th to May 19th will be Podfic Highlight Week. That means any and all podfics and other audio based fanworks can be submitted without having to provide proof that you commented on something else. All our other rules still apply.

All podfics that have already been submitted will be reblogged this week and listed on this post. Podfics that get submitted will be added to the list as well.

I also made an info post about podfic, with information and links about what they are, how you can find them, how to heighten you chances of someone turning your fic into a podfic and how to learn how to podfic yourself. I will post that hopefully tomorrow and update this post with a link. If you have suggestions what should be included in that post, please reach out.

I just finished participating in Voiceteam 2024, and it was a blast! Now I'm catching up on posting all of the work I did during the last month. One of my favorite challenges was "Present", creating a work as a gift for one of your teammates. I recorded this for Rindle. If you don't know Rindle, she is the incredible and talented podficcer and creator of FPSList, which collects blanket permission statements for transformative works from authors across fandoms. If you're not already BP, I encourage you to check it out and think about it.

I was looking for something interesting and fun to record when I found @lumosatnight's lovely set of 31 drabbles which together form a cohesive story. I love the drabble format and the snappiness of storytelling and economy of prose that it requires, but it's cool to see the way they can be used to create a larger story. Please enjoy!

VoiceTeam Submissions by Kiwiana: Round Two

I recorded less podfic for @voiceteam round two than one would generally expect, but that's because I threw myself into the mod dare with gusto. The mod dares each round aren't worth points (though submissions you make to meet the mod dare get all their USUAL points), but they are a fun challenge and a real blast to pull together with your team. This round's dare was: I dare [each team] to complete all ten Round 2 challenges using a fandom that has 20 or fewer fics total on AO3.

And I looked from the dare, to my ARC of The Pairing by Casey McQuiston, to the dare, to my ARC... and, well, I'm no mathematician, but zero is in fact less than 20.

What this did mean is I mostly took point on writing this round, as I threw together a couple of little ficlets for my teammates to then record. Though I did manage to actually pod something as well!

It started when they were thirteen, when Calum pulled him out of the surf and, in his delirium from the blood loss, his best mate had looked like an angel with the sun behind his golden hair. It started when they were ten and got in a scrap over the right to be called Calum in their class instead of some other nickname, then promptly decided that actually they’d both be Calum and let everyone else sort it out. (Or, the Calums' story, from Monaco to Palermo)

He totally gets why Theo was shocked into silence, now. “Parlez-vous anglais?” Alex Claremont-Diaz asks, his smile somehow even more blinding in person than it is on TV—and, yeah, maybe Kit only really started paying attention to US politics when Ellen Claremont was elected. Sue him. “I really hope so, cause I’m pretty sure Henry’s getting sick of translating for me.”

The third and final round starts this weekend; maybe I'll actually go back to doing more podficcing for this one 😉
