Georgians are in the streets fighting for their democracy. The Georgian Dream party, which is working to align Tbilisi with Moscow’s interests, declared victory in the country’s Oct. 26 election before the votes were even counted. Voters and election observers were harassed by Russian-funded gangs and mobsters; just after the election, protesters holding European Union flags were sprayed with water from high-powered hoses. And the person who has the iron will necessary to lead the charge against Russian-inspired authoritarianism in Georgia? A woman: President Salome Zourabichvili.

This is no accident. Across the world, women have, and are, playing incredible roles as bulwarks against the rise of authoritarianism. Moldovan President Maia Sandu is standing up to a tsunami of Russian disinformation. In Poland, women played a critical role in the effort to oust the right-wing populist Law and Justice (PiS) party. In Hong Kong, women continue to be the practical and normative face of resistance to Chinese authoritarian rule.

These are the freedom fighters of the 21st century. And yet, the U.S. national security community tends to view women’s issues as a domestic concern, frivolous, or irrelevant to “hard” security matters. For example, in 2003, discussions of securing Iraq excluded women, with a top U.S. general stating, “When we get the place secure, then we’ll be able to talk about women’s issues.” More recently, the role of women in the military has been reduced to discussions of diversity, equity, and inclusion, rather than a focus on how women have been vital to solving the United States’ most wicked national security problems—from serving on the front lines in combat to providing essential intelligence analysis. But if the overall aim of U.S. national strategy is to shore up democracy and democratic freedoms, the treatment of women and girls cannot be ignored.

Globally, women’s rights are often eroding in both policy and practice, from the struggles of the Iranian and Afghan women who exist under gender apartheid to the Kenyan women experiencing the harsh backlash of the rise of the manosphere. In tandem, there’s been a sharp rise in reports of online harassment and misogyny worldwide.

National security analysts explore issues and psychologies through any number of prisms, but Women, Peace, and Security (WPS) remains an underutilized one. One of the national security community’s core tasks is discerning signals from noise in the global strategic environment, and regressive ideas on gender and gender equality can be a useful proxy metric for democratic backsliding and authoritarian rise.

The United States’ 2023 Strategy and National Action Plan on Women, Peace and Security provides the backbone for the United States to leverage WPS to counter authoritarianism. It highlights that displays of misogyny online are linked to violent action. The plan also points out that formally incorporating gendered perspectives is essential for maintaining democratic institutions at home and modeling them aboard. This includes recognizing misogyny—online or in policy—as an early indicator of authoritarian rise.

Unfortunately, WPS is often misread as simply including more women in the national security workforce. But it is more than that. It offers a framework for understanding why it is useful to take gendered perspectives into account when assessing how the actions of individuals or groups enhance national security, which is especially important at a time when authoritarian regimes are weaponizing gender in ways that strengthen their grip on power domestically and justify their aggression abroad.

In Russia, President Vladimir Putin has argued that he is the guardian of traditional Christian values, telling women that they should be back at home raising children, and has been rolling back domestic violence laws at the same time. Days before invading Ukraine in February 2022, Putin said, “Like it or don’t like it, it’s your duty, my beauty,” which was widely interpreted within Russia as a reference to martial rape. Russia’s own army is built on a foundation of hierarchical hazing in which “inferior” men are degraded by their comrades. With that kind of rhetoric from the top, is it any wonder that Russian soldiers’ war crimes have included the rapes of women and children?

But Putin isn’t alone. In Hungary, Prime Minister Viktor Orban has consolidated media outlets to censor women’s voices, in the name of protecting traditional values. He has also used coercive financial practices to push women out of the workforce and positions of political power and into more traditional roles of wife and mother. In Belarus, President Alexander Lukashenko attempted to force the deportation of the most prominent woman opposition leader and imprisoned her after she tore up her passport to prevent it. In China, where women were once told they “hold up half the sky,” President Xi Jinping has worked to undo decades of Chinese Communist Party policy on gender equality. Chinese women are now being encouraged to return home and become mothers, while feminists have been targeted legally and socially.

The WPS agenda provides the U.S. national security community with three opportunities to recognize, understand, and counter early-stage authoritarianism.

First, the United States can do a much better job of supporting women’s groups around the world as a central aspect of its national security strategy. Women’s groups are often a bellwether for authoritarian rise and democratic backsliding—as currently on display in Russia, China, Hungary, Georgia, and Belarus, where women inside and outside their respective regimes have been specifically targeted or attacked.

Women have also found innovative ways to resist the rise of authoritarian norms. In places like Moldova, women have acted as bulwarks against authoritarianism despite vicious disinformation campaigns targeting women leaders. Yet when it comes to formulating and executing strategies on national security, women’s groups are often left in the margins and their concerns dismissed.

Second, gender perspectives are essential to more fulsome intelligence gathering and analysis. The U.S. intelligence community can do a much better job of integrating gender—particularly as it relates to the treatment of the most vulnerable—as an indicator of societal and democratic health. This includes understanding how both masculinities and femininities influence decision-making and how, in turn, lived experiences act as necessary analytical tools. Training collectors and analysts of intelligence to recognize gendered indicators will provide a more robust view of the geopolitical landscape and fill critical holes in national security decision-making.

Finally, the United States must improve the participation of its national security community in WPS and feminist foreign-policy discussions. For too long, the “hard” security sector has distanced itself from more “human” security-focused endeavors and treated women’s rights as something that’s just nice to have.

Yet national security is an essentially human endeavor, and gender is a central component of what it means to be human. This is something that needs to be appreciated to better understand the many dimensions of the conflict—disinformation, online influence campaigns, and lawfare—that authoritarian regimes are waging against the United States and its allies.

Wobbles didn’t expect some old bullies to try their luck after the heavy punishments Magnus handed out.

Especially the off-handed ones some of their friends had done on their behalf.

Maybe too many punches lead to their logic circuits to suffer in the long run.

Wobbles was proud of how long they stood their ground with their new wobbles against so many stronger bots.

But too bad it ended up being in vain.

Now they were on the floor, desperately trying to crawl away, as multiple bots held them down and kicked them all over.

The largest pair of servo were clamped securely over Wobbles mouth, muffling out the yells for help.

Too bad for the bullies, they would soon get what was coming to them.

These bots hear the suspicious sounds of muffled screaming and go to investigate. The only thing they see is some poor bot getting jumped. The bots weapons are out and immediately go on the attack. As soon as the bullies are gone, it is when the bot decides to finally take a look at who was at the receiving end of the attack. Sparks are sinking when they realize that it was Wobbles and call for a medic. These bots stay on guard, making sure the bullies don’t come back for another round. These bots also know who they need to contact when Wobbles, in their concussed state, mentions that the bullies came back because of their more pronounced wobble and how ‘they deserved it’. The Wobbles protection squad is going to be hearing from this!

These bots turn the corner and see a bunch of bots beating someone on the ground. They know they can’t exactly take all of them down by themselves, so they get creative. Whether by randomly firing into the air by the bots or running at them screaming murder, it works, and the bullies leave. Getting Wobbles to properly sit up is their next challenge as they call a medic to come over. These bots try their best to clean up any wounds they know they can handle caring for. They all take mental notes of Wobbles explaining the bullies poor thought process. The bots are the second longest in staying by Wobbles side during their time in the med bay.

By the time these bots show up, the bullies would have already wrapped up their torment and getting in the last few kicks before dispersing. These bots hear the pained groans and spot Wobbles trying to crawl somewhere. The bots are already rushing to Wobbles side and calling for help. They make sure that Wobbles is awake and try their best to help them. Whether it’s through actually caring for the wounds or offering comfort in their own way, Wobbles does feel better. Good enough to mention who beat them up and why. This confession is going straight to Magnus as soon as Wobbles is safe in the medbay.

The Earasaid

The earasaid (also spelled erasaid, and arisaid) is a women’s plaid worn primarily between the 16th and 19th centuries. This garment was worn not only in the Highlands of Scotland, but also in surrounding areas, so to call it a tartan—or a plaid signifying a clan name—would not be accurate in all cases. In the beginning of the 1500s we can see early mentions of the earasaid’s adoption along with the (much more popular) fèileadh mòr, or belted Great Kilt, which was worn by men in the outdoors for working and travel. Gaidhlig poetry—such as John MacLean’s “De dh’ earasaid fharsaing” (1651) and John MacDonald’s poem of the Jacobite Rising (1715)—first began mentioning the women’s plaid in literature, but didn’t provide many details on the structure until the early 19th century. Since then, instructions and even diagrams have been recorded on paper on how to wear and care for the earasaid. Although its popularity has dwindled with the implementation of modern western wear, the earasaid remains a staple of women’s history in the Scottish Highlands and its surrounding areas.

Like with the Great Kilt, there are many ways to style/wear an earasaid. The simplest of these is to drape the earasaid over the shoulders and hold the wide end of the fabric about an arms length from the corners. Next, the fabric is gathered in the palms 3 to 4 times to create draped pleats before a belt is secured around the waist to hold the fabric in place. This can be worn as an overskirt, tucked overskirt, cape, or large hood. Another way to wear the earasaid is similarly to the Great Kilt. First, the fabric is laid flat on the ground with the wearer knelt at the narrower end. Leaving 6-12 inches of flat fabric, the wearer begins pleating 6 inches of fabric toward herself until there is an even amount of flat fabric left at the other narrow end. A belt is then slid gently beneath the pleated fabric. The wearer lies on top of the center of the pleats (and in the center of the belt below the fabric) so that the lines are parallel with her spine, and the lower edge lays around the knee area. The left and right sides of the fabric are wrapped around the waist and the belt is secured to hold the fabric in place. This can be worn as an overskirt, tucked over skirt, cape, hood, and pinned at the shoulder with a brooch called the penannular brooch—a metal circle with a small slit cut in to allow the passage of a long sliding pin.

Today, the earasaid isn’t as well known as its male counterpart, but there are a few organizations and individuals that display this garment’s unique beauty for those curious enough to come looking for it. [WP] You're an assassin, but you keep failing in almost comical ways. All the while your target doesn't even realize someone's trying to kill them.

His name was Tobia Mietitore. But his colleagues just called him 74. He always thought about having it engraved on small cards for his customers, but it felt unprofessional. Assassins generally didn't leave calling cards behind. At the moment 74 was hanging dozens of feet in the air, anchored on a gargoyle* above Sator Square. It was night time, one of those gloomy nights when the poisonous fog from the river Ahnk hang in the streets and every reasonable person stayed indoors. He was waiting for someone. A specific someone to be precise. Lord Benjamin Venturi, head of one of the noble families of Ahnk-Morpork. Currently he was in a meeting in the Patrician's palace on thr other side of the square. He would be coming out soon.

"This time it has to work!", the Assassin mumbled silently. The plan was foolproof. The coach driver was bribed to head on a way leading through directly under Mietitore's position. He would then drop the small box filled with a highly unstable alchemistic concoction on the carriage, which would blow it apart or at least take the roof off and disorient the guards, so Mietitore could rapple down himself and finish the job with his small crossbow. He hoped it wouldn't have to come to that. Surely, Venturi would have strengthened his security after the last dozen failed attempts, involving among others a trained Octarine Gadfly**, and a drop of arsenic in his morning coffee***.

He could see movement in front of the palace now. Trough the fog, the passengers were barley visible. A couple of guards and two figures, Lord Venturi and his secretary, were getting in the coach. With a snap of the reins it began it's journey across the square. 74 felt for the small box in his coat pocket and made sure his crossbow was cocked and loaded. Finally he could show those pretentious suckers at the guild, above all Lord Downey himself, how to carry out a real assassination. No one would laugh about him then, as they had done when he had graduated "Assassination 101" last among his class.

The carriage was now nearly in position. Only a few feet more and ... "And what 'ave we here?", a voice came from above him. "A little night time climbing practice, eh?" Mietitore looked up and saw two faces under the non-glint of the helmets of the city guard. He recognised them. Corporal Nobby Nobbs and Sergeant Fred Colon. Two of Commander Vimes' "finest".**** "He seems in quite a predicament, don't ya think so, Fred?", said Nobbs cheerily. "Why don't we help him out?" He produced a dagger and, to 74's horror, cut the rope at the gargoyle.

It is a common misconception that people falling from great heights don't scream while doing so and die not through sudden contact with the ground, but the fall itself. In Mietitore's case he did scream quite loud and, unluckly, was still alive when he broke through the roof of the carrriage. He could hear the voice of the small corproral above him. "Why didn't you hold him up, Fred? Now we'll have to scrape him off the plaster." The footsteps and ensuing banter vanished as the two guards looked for the way down. But Mietitore didn't pay any notice to this. His full attentiom was occupied by the man he had mistaken for Benjamin Venturi. He could feel his bodily functions give way under the steel gaze he was subjected to. For a moment he whished the concotion in his pocket had exploded on impact. Then he immediatey retractred that thought at the man's expression. "And who exactly are you?", said Lord Havelock Vetinari, tyrant and Patrician of Ahnk-Morpork, slowly.

Society has a tendency to disenfranchise the poor, minority racial groups, and in particular, indigenous peoples. In order for real progress to be made, systemic inequalities must be destroyed in order for all people to be treated equally under the law.

The idea of dignity of this society, the basic respect and self-worth that each and every person is entitled to have, lies at the heart of this conflict that where it was started many years ago. According to the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, which declares that everyone has the right to have dignity as a fundamental human right of every person, societies that respect and preserve dignity promote justice and fairness.

The Development of Social Structures

Society as a whole nation,country etc. must operate in a way that benefits its members, regardless of individual rights. Humanitarian actions are relevant in this situation. Humanitarian groups like the Red Cross, Unicef and Doctors Without Borders strive to enhance human welfare through medical assistance, disaster relief, and social justice campaigns. They have an essential role in reducing suffering, particularly during emergencies. Extending the help for the unfortunates of some calamities or war.

In the meantime, society is still shaped by different economic and social classes in our country. The peasants or the farmers, who have traditionally been the foundation of agricultural economy as small-scale farmers and laborer's, are one such group. They have frequently been subjected to political neglect and commercial exploitation in spite of their significance. The farmers rights and land reform were the goals of movements of the Sakdalista rebellion in the Philippines, Sakdalista means "to accuse". Many farmers were helped by the implementation of land reform.Thanks to the bravery of our ancestors.

The educated elite people known as the Illustrados way back in our history, who pushed for reforms and freedom under Spanish control governance, was another significant social class in Philippine history. These intellectual man, including national heroes like José Rizal and Marcelo H. del Pilar, played a vital role in advocating for independence and shaping national identity of our beloved country. Their enlightenment paved the way for resistance movements that would eventually lead to freedom.They encourage lots of pilipino people to fight for our independence towards to the conquerors.

The Power, Colonialism, and Shifting Perspectives

SCP AMTF Nu-7 Cosplay - Low Visibility Environment

Depicted here is the standard night fighting equipment for the conventional Nu-7 light fighter. Low visibility conditions take up roughly half of all time on Earth, and as such the modern soldier must be equipped to function in such an environment. This is also the case for the SCP Foundation's Armed Mobile Task Forces. It is especially important for AMTF units as many Foundation site's are almost entirely underground and have the potential to lose power and artificial light. All AMTF units who are tasked with responding to site containment breaches must be trained in performing all of their duties under night vision devices. Headborne night vision and occasionally thermal devices are typically mounted on a ballistic or bump helmet, in this case the Ops-Core SF ballistic helmet, via an NVG shroud fixed to the front of the helmet. The night vision equipment can be mounted to the shroud off a dovetail mount by the use of a bridge for dual tube NVGs, or a J-Arm for single tube NVGs. The operative depicted here has an Elbit Gen 3 WP PVS-14 mounted on a Noisefighters MAX14 J-Arm which mounts to the Norotos Lo-Sto Push Button Mount. Such a setup is extremely lightweight and provides an exceptional range of articulation for stowing the unit on the helmet. This operative also has a FLIR Breach Thermal monocular, used as a handheld heat signature scanner. Using both night vision tubes and thermal devices in tandem provides the user with an extremely powerful toolset when working at night or in low light conditions.

If the AMTF unit is responding to a potential threat to Foundation security that is known to have peer or near peer technology, then responding elements must assume their targets have night vision and thermal devices as well. To this end one of the more simple methods to counter handheld thermal devices is to wear a large poncho. This masks most of the operative's body heat underneath the poncho and blends the wearer to the surrounding environmental temperature. Fighting against thermal is extremely difficult and this method is not perfect, however even a simple poncho decreases the overall heat signature of the wearer to a large degree. Countering enemy night vision devices is much easier and a large part of succeeding in this is to reduce both white light and IR light output downrange. This means the operative's must passive aim without the assistance of an IR laser mounted on the weapon.
