There are so many good scenes in "Zuko Alone" but the one where he teaches the little boy how to use his swords is my favorite. It shows so much of Zuko's character that we don't see often, like him patiently explaining things and letting a peasant kid get away with trying to be sneaky. He woke up when the kid stole his swords and he just let him take them, most likely because he didn't want to scare him or make him feel like he was in trouble. Zuko doesn't want other kids to feel scared like he did when he was little, even if they're Earth Kingdom kids who he doesn't have any responsibility towards like he does his own people. I think it does a really good job of showing the audience what type of leader Zuko will eventually turn into when he doesn't feel the pressure of adults who expect him to be a certain way always watching him.
It's a very sweet scene that often gets overlooked due to some of the more narratively important scenes in the episode. I also think it's very pretty!

For some reason I think there's something fun about a downward facing landscape painting without any sky or horizon line.

Untitled watercolor, 19x27”
The assignment: paint a night scene on a full sheet of watercolor paper. The biggest challenges: preserving the yellow glow without making it look like yellow snow, and layering my dark colors so they aren’t totally opaque. I figured I had better share this one before winter is officially over!

It's @mdzsrbb time again!!! @mockedspace and I have a fic for any dragon-noodle fans or fans of Jiang Cheng and Lan Xichen! Please go give mockedspace and her fic some love <3
I had a great deal of fun with this partnership. I got to pull out my watercolor landscapes again and paint tiny JC. I'd say he's a giant in the first painting at a hair over 2cm tall from boots to bun, but...

Then I painted this one, and both Dragon Xichen and Jiang Cheng are *big*. JC (from waist to the top of his bun) is 2.9 cm.

My second time painting this photo (from a 2011 walk) of this tree. It took some digging, but the first painting (in the line-up of 3 paintings) was from back in August 2014, almost 10 years ago. It's always weird to look back at old art and think, this is simultaneously better than I expected, and about as bad as I expected.
