Week02 HW - 2 Original Emojis
01. chickpea
Tumblr media
this is a chickpea emoji. apple already has a falafel emoji, so why not try and create a chickpea emoji? fun fact: falafel is made with chickpeas. this idea was suggested by my vegan friend, shoutout to nico.
I was inspired by the realism of Apple emojis, specifically their food emojis. Using the pen tool, I traced the shape of a chickpea I found online. Then with the brush tool, I layered on colors to add value to the chickpea, in addition to shadows and highlights.
02. unhinged bite
Tumblr media
this is an unhinged bite emoji. this idea was also suggested by nico. he wanted an emoji that evoked the message of: "i'm about to bite you."
I traced over a sketch I made in my journal and used layers to separate the different components of the design.

CTS-B | Week02 Connecting Theory and Practice
People show different sides of themselves in social settings, which can occasionally result in misconceptions about who we are. To satisfy my employer, I may, for instance, smoke a cigarette that I detest. These encounters can aid in our identity search, and seeking outside assistance is a crucial step in the process. People alter who they are in order to feel like they belong in a variety of social situations. To improve the quality of a person's life, they must have this "social identity." There is direction and a sense of pride in belonging to a group that has a common aim.
For designers, self-definition and self-identification are crucial aspects in developing a personal brand. I have learnt that in order to stand out at work, I need to create a personal brand that accentuates my advantages. By doing this, I raise my profile in the eyes of prospective employers and improve my chances of landing an interview.
Tumblr media
It is equally important for me to define my artistic identity as it is to define my social or personal identity. As a designer, I see my personal style as a way to brand myself and make a lasting impression on people. It is crucial for me to develop my creative identity and personal brand as a designer, and even though the concept sounds abstract, there are practical steps I can take to make it happen. I will comprehend myself more fully as a result of this self-discovery process.

Something Awesome Proposal
Topic: To build a drone.
Why? I have always been interested in building my own drone but haven’t had the time. I have no knowledge of how to do this, but my goal is to understand how a drone can communicate with the device controlling it and it’s security flaws.
Skills:
Understand telemetry
Understand the security flaws in drones
Criteria:
High Distinction:  Understand security flaws of a drone, different parts of a drone, build drone and 1-2 times weekly regarding progress and research.
Distinction: Understand security flaws of a drone, different parts of a drone and blog once a week.
Credit: Clear understanding of telemetry within the drone, understand how the drone works and possible security flaws, blog less than once per week.
Goals by weeks:
w3 - w4: Research into how a drone works, how it communicates and order necessary parts parts.
w5: Research parts needed and security risks
w6 - w9: Build

Something Awesome
Oops sorry I’ve never use tumblr before, my week 1 blogs were done in the private blog section. Should be alright from here on out.
I came up with an idea for my something awesome project, since it has to be technical, I thought about making my own code breaking game website.
So I’d create my own website using javascript.
I’d create some code breaking games in maybe python and host it on the website
I could add in some information pages going into detail about cryptography and code breaking
Just a thought

Wireframes – Lëtzebuerg
Tumblr media
Yes, you probably read that wrong, it’s in Luxembourgish and means Luxembourg. That's the name of the app I’m building right now, because it’s all about Luxembourg and its best tourist attractions you never knew you needed to know. Jokes aside, contrary to other European countries in recent years, Luxembourg has seen a decrease in tourists. You can blame it on the fact that Luxembourg is tiny, but with this app I wanted to make Luxembourg more accessible and the historical sites more interesting. Every spot is going to be accompanied by an illustration a short description and history. Because so many of the tourists in Luxembourg come from neighbouring countries like France and Germany I decided that the app is going to have at least 4 language options: English, Luxembourgish, German and French.
It’s going to be a simple three screen app, user friendly. With this app, you’re one click away from the most interesting and beautiful landmarks in Luxembourg.
Tumblr media
Right now I’m just trying to sketch out the look and layout of the app, creating the wireframes of the app.
Tumblr media
I’m also working on the illustration on the home page of the app. It combines a few of the most iconic landmarks in Luxembourg, like the Adolphe Bridge and the Spuerkeess building. So right now they are just quick sketches to help me figure out the placement of each component, later I’ll probably take those images to my laptop and create digital illustrations.
(where are we on the word count of Luxembourg?)

The Weather Project by Olafur Eliasson (2003)
This installation artwork brings an illusion of the sun into the Turbine Hall at Tate Modern in the UK. Implementing a semi-circular screen, mirrors, and artificial mist to create an indoor sunset that allows the audience to experience an integrally outdoor experience such as a sunset/rise within the confines of a human-made structure. The impossibility of this concept could provoke a surreal state and bend the viewer’s perception of reality.

Week 2 - Visual Journal Entry #1
02.05.2025
Tumblr media
Image 1. INSPIRATION
Tumblr media
Image 2. THE CREATION
As a graphic designer for the Computer Science Club at Hunter, I am responsible for creating promotional materials like posters and Instagram graphics for our club events and initiatives.
Image 1 is the inspiration for Image 2, the Project Development Program graphic I created for Instagram.
What I like about Image 1 is the mixture of simple shapes (rectangles, circles) and organic forms. The restricted color palette and the smooth lines also adds to the simplicity of the design, meanwhile being almost maximalist with the different design components in the image.

create new existence - week 02
In Week 02 we looked at various ways that images can be made, with or without a camera. In this age we have 3D technology, allowing for camera-less production. Images can also be printed then transformed into an object.  3 stages: Pre-production Production Post-production The difference between taking an image versus making an image, The artist acts as a director.

Week 2 – Orthogonal Projection & AS1100 Standards
The task this week is quite challenging.
PART I
The first part of this week is to construct a box that can be used as a guide to understanding how to demonstrate an orthogonal drawing and understand the different perspectives.
Through this process, I understand the basic dimensions, layout, and structures of the object.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
PART II
Now is time for constructing the orthogonal drawing with the help of using the box as a guild to draw the three sides of the tape measure.
Tumblr media
The front view of the measuring tape was hard to construct. The shape of the object is not purely a circle. It is like an oval shape and with round edges. But by more clear measurement and also the help with the circle template, the shape is constructed finally.
Tumblr media
With the accurate measurement of the top view, the front view is constructed smoothly with the dimensions guided by the front view. As looking at the top, the length of the curved structure at the side is unequal. But with the guide of the front view, the differences in the dimensions are measured easily and the diagram is drawn smoothly.
Tumblr media
On the right side view of the tape measure was quite complicated. The structure of the stopper and the lines and curve are more intricate than the rest of the side of the tape measure. To solve the problem, I have constructed and made more accurate lines with rulers and also a protractor for measuring the curves. Finally, the three orthographic views drawing are produced.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
PART III
As the draft drawings in part ii are constructed with accurate dimensions, I have used tracing paper to trace over the drawing. I have used 3 line types (0.1, 0.3, 0.5) of pens to make the drawings to make them more detailed. And finally, the drawing is done! This drawing takes much more time than i expected but it was really enjoyable to see the result with all the processes!

the beginning of a sketch
I just love coming up with those blogpost titles.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Trying out different fonts, font-weights, letter arrangements and styles. You can see the influence from the mood boards and Pinterest research. Using thin and thick lines, separating the J into the main stem and a dot instead of the “hook”. Trying to create a grid using different angles.
After experimenting with different styles, I’ve settled on a few monograms that have the potential to turn into something finished later. So I’ll keep sketching before I turn to the screen.

Winter Storm by Anthony Howe
Howe’s collection of metal sculptures with organic shapes create a life-like movement from their kinetic mechanism. Often designed to direct the viewer’s attention to the centre of the sculpture, the artist states their aim is “to stop the viewer’s thought process and experience a different kind of reality”. The stark difference between the alien-fauna-like sculpture in comparison to the background of earth’s nature blurs the distinction between conscious and unconscious, an amalgamation of reality and the other, therefore creating a sense of surreality.
