#Well well well. How the turntables lmao

Okay so I don't know where I heard it or where it came from (it might be canon for all I know idk Homestuck was long as shit I don't remember) but supposedly Knights lack whatever their aspect is within their session. For example, Dave's session, as the Knight of Time, was only about a day long and then Karkat, as the Knight of Blood... well, I don't really know but I assume it's because he hid his blood colour? I'm not really sure... Anyway, I think this is interesting for two reasons.

First of all--and this one holds no bearing on the narrative or anything, I just thought it was interesting--Time is associated with music, and while the beta kids' session is supposed to lack Time, each kid knows an instrument (or is otherwise musically inclined cuz idk if turntables are considered an instrument exactly lmao). John plays piano, Rose plays violin, Jade plays guitar, and Dave plays(?) turntables. I mean, I guess they already lack Time in the most literal sense of the aspect, so I guess if the theory is true it might stick to something more literal rather than encompassing the whole of the aspect or something like that idk. And actually, come to think of it, Time being associated with music may just be fanon as well that I've taken to be true solely because it's been hanging around in my head for so long.

But I digress. Long story short there is their session is apparently supposed to lack Time, Time is associated with music, each kid knows how to play an instrument, and therefore they don't lack that aspect of the aspect (lmao). Which doesn't mean anything, it's just interesting.

Anyway, second of all. And still operating under the assumption that Knights lack their aspect in their session here btw. I think it's probably more like they lack their aspect until they don't. Because for Dave their initial session is only about a day long until he, Rose, and the (remaining) trolls have to hang around in the Veil(?) for 3 years waiting for John and Jade and stuff. I.e., they're lacking Time until they got a whole hell of a lot of it. Similar goes for Karkat, I think, with the whole bloodbath Gamzee situation. I.e., they're lacking Blood until there's a whole hell of a lot of it.

Though I guess maybe that bloodloss is supposed to be the lack in the first place? Whatever man. That's just what I've been thinking lately k thx bye xoxo

For all that I love Les Misérables (the musical), I've only seen it once on stage; when the local high school was performing it, and I was in elementary school/early middle school. (I don't know why my Mum took us to see it, but some things definitely went over my head lmao.)

So my brother got my Mum and I tickets to see the US tour, and holy shit. Holy. Shit.

Some of the things I enjoyed may be common to the play! Maybe I'm just out of the loop! But I still really liked them! (In no particular order.)

Nick Cartell and Preston Truman Boyd were really good as Jean Valjean and Javert, but I have to give a special shout out to Haley Dortch whose Fantine was exquisite and Randy Jeter who played the Bishop and whose breath control/ability to hold long notes I envy deeply.

Gavroche flipped Javert off at the barricades. 🤣

Is Grantaire caring for Gavroche a common theme in the musicals? Because in this one, Gavroche ran to give Grantaire a hug during one point at the barricades - I think after Eponine dies? And then Grantaire gave Gavroche his coat to sleep under. Later it's Grantaire who takes it the worst when Gavroche dies, and is the one to hold him and take him down from the barricade.

I have a confession… I don't actually know the difference between the different Les Amis. I know that they're popular, and I know some of their names, but I have to double check the lyrics to see who Grantaire was. >>; That being said, they're death scene was really amazing but also probably be very careful if you're sensitive to flashing lights. They had spotlights flash to represent the bullets as each Les Amis died and it was gorgeous and brutal.

Our barricade wasn't a turntable, but the sets in general were really cool. They had a projector screen on the back that they used to great effect, especially during the sewer scene and Javert's suicide.

THE RUNAWAY CART. I have no idea how they did that but it was so well done.

The Turning transition to Empty Chairs at Empty Tables and how each lady in Turning left a candle and then each dead Les Amis picked one up and toasted like it was a cup. Ugh. Gut punch.

The Thénardiers were terrible and hilarious as always. We were high up in the cheap seats, so I couldn't always tell what everyone was doing, but the Thénardiers were always so over the top that I could always tell what they were doing.

Diversity win, one of the worst characters in the musical made canonically bisexual (?) with the lines in Beggars at the Feast changed from, "This one's a queer \\ But what can you do?" to "This one's a queer \\ I might try it too." At which point M. Thenardier started dancing with the gentleman in question and dipped him.

I really could see why Marius would be clueless about Eponine's affections; every time he actually is interacting with her, she's either teasing/friendly bullying him (pick-pocketing his book then throwing it across the street), or helping him find another woman. It's only in her asides/inner monologue that she acknowledges it. It gave very, "boy pulling pigtails" vibes and I would understand why Marius wouldn't necessarily see it.

In general, Marius and Cosette were adorable. His "I'm doing everything all wrong" was pitch perfect and he had the audience laughing.

...I know that J/J (?) Valvert (?) is the most popular pairing, but honestly I came out of the first act wanting an AU where Fantine's illness is less deadly, and she ends up leaving w/ Valjean, and they figure the easiest way to hide is to get married and pretend to be a family; it hides Cosette's parentage, and gives them a cover in Paris; Javert is looking for Single Convict Jean Valjean, not Married Family Man Normal McLoving-Husband-and-Father. And later Javert can join in making them a weird poly trio, as a treat. (Not weird because they're poly; weird because Javert is Like That.)

(...Maybe in a modern AU where Javert gets some major therapy.)

(My first thought was fake-marriage AU where Valjean marries Fantine to get her on his health insurance and then I remembered that that's an American Problem Probably.)

(I'm not saying it would work for all versions of Valjean and Fantine, just in this one.)

The Bishop was with Fantine and Eponine in welcoming Valjean to heaven and that's when I started crying.

In the applause, all the child actors held hands with Valjean and did a bow with him & then he picked up the child!Cosette of the night and carried her. It was adorable. Everything about Valjean and child!Cosette was adorable.

In general everything with the children was so fucking cute.

I already loved the songs, but hearing them echo and reverb in the theater was amazing and I'm super jealous of people who can go on the reg. |D

Just. Ugh. It was so good. I didn't realize how much I missed live theater.

I even bought merch for the first time. 🤣(A keychain and some pins, nothing fancy admittedly.)

I wish every traveling group put out their own soundtrack. I want to listen to these guys 5ever.

Why I love the Wubboxes so much

Design (Im not ranking them)

-Air (the wings are amazing, I also love his little hat with the glasses he’s so sweet)

-Plant (it’s just so adorable, the little antlers and how he appears to have a rib cage, I also just love the leaves and his lil log feet)

-Rare wubbox (his keyboard arms are just perfect and I love how he has that turntable on his tummy area, cute)

-Cold (the icicles on his head and how he is covered in ice, fits the theme so well, I also just love the ball in his tummy, it’s pretty.)

-Water (he just looks so perfect, his feet look absolutely beautiful with the coral, and I love how his eyes and tummy are made to look like he was built from a submarine)

-Common wubbox (the lightning that connects his joints is so pretty and cool, I also love how his arms are designed, the swirls and everything. Also he just has a small and cute face)

-Earth (HES SO CUTEEE- literally though, the trap thing on his tummy, and his arms are styled so perfectly and he fits earth island so well)

Sound:

-Air (I know not many people like it when he screams, but honestly it makes him look so cool. The wings are spread out and his eyes glow. Love it)

-Plant (I like the rattling a lot, plant also just looks like he’s having fun while he rattles. His vocals are pretty good but not my favorite, still love him)

-rare wubbox (this is why he’s my favorite: he has lyrics and he sounds amazing. I love how he has that robot voice and how his dancing matches how he sings)

-Cold (the intro is so good, cold is kind of overrated but I still love him a lot. His vocals are really good and match perfectly with his beats)

-Water (he has a really really good beat, the bubbles make it a lot smoother, water just sounds amazing in general)

-common wubbox (THIS ONE- I love how he is always so energetic lmao- the beats and vocals are so good, however I don’t think he should be on plant island no offenseee)

britney spears's ...baby one more time goddamn i LOVE this album. her voice is soo beautiful and the sound is the perfect late 90s/early 2000s bubblegum pop vibe mixed with some of the most heartfelt songs youve ever heard. gorgeous gorgeous record.

chappell roan's the rise and fall of a midwest princess... obviously. i really truly feel like this album will go down as one of the Greatest pop records in history and it's so deserved ALONG WITH chappell as one of the most iconic performers. like she Literally has everything. party bops and crazy heartbreaking ballads and it translates SO well to a live show. my next record purchase as soon as i can decide between the deluxe or regular and im leaning heavyyyy toward the deluxe.

the regrettes' further joy. i had this on repeat when it came out!!! no skips it's so boppy and fun and thoughtful dreamy... i love it. would give anything to hear it live again but my signed vinyl will have to do. this album is like the music version of this emoji 💖 im so serious.

the cab's symphony soldier. have you ever... listened to this album. for one it's beautiful and two it's SUCH a fun vibe you can't not sing and dance and have so much fun. also yes i'm a spn fan ok move on.

waterparks' fandom. uhh relevant djfhdjdh. but for real it's such a stark and strong commentary on what fandom Is and parasocial relationships and how it feels to be trapped in a box because your fanbase won't let you grow as an artist and what it is to be so accessible to the public to the point where you have no control over yourself or your image. i love her deeply she tickles my brain so nicely and makes me think.

fletcher's you ruined new york city for me. it's an ep ok maybe i'm cheating but she tells the story of a whole album. i listened to this when i got dumped in nyc 🤪 so dramatic lmao. but really it's such a vulnerable breakup album that does so much in five songs. mostly make me sad.

5sos's youngblood. yeah i'm here have you LISTENED to this album??? the SOUNDS on that thing!!! it's like just the right amount of poppy and grungy and mature like... they really did something there.

harry styles debut ... controversial? honestly my favorite harry album changes prob every other week but something about his self titled is really doing it for me right now. it's an incredible body of work that introduces us to Harry Styles himself outside of one direction. i'm begging for a rockier album in the future from him bc the tastes of it we get on this record show he would just nail it.

paramore's after laughter. i swear this album made me feel alive in a way i didn't know i could feel. it's such a departure from their past work but it's still so genuine and true and you can't tell whether you're happy or sad or both or neither it's just everything to a bitch like me who can't confront her emotions dead on. and so so pretty.

carly rae jepsen's emotion.. right? how could it not be. pop perfection and that's all there is to it. the first record i bought before i even had a turntable.

extremely honorable mention to 5sos's the feeling of falling upwards. i didnt officially include it bc it's a live album but i love it so much it's so beautiful.

Hiya! Do you have any recommendations for someone who's new to record players? Especially where to buy vinyls for cheap but any other tips are also appreciated 👀🎶

ah god, i'm afraid i'm not great with finding records for cheap at all, but it's probably worth checking discogs + your local record shop! i'd definitely recommend getting something like this to clean your records too -- it's pretty much inevitable that dust will build up on them regardless of how well you store them, unfortunately. also worth noting: store records like books, not like pizza boxes! keep them vertical, because that helps prevent the vinyl warping.

most of what i know is about the turntables/record players themselves, which obvs i'm happy to talk about, but if you already have a setup and you're not looking to upgrade then i don't know how relevant it'll be haha. reddit has a decent rundown on all of that, but the main takeaways are probably make sure your cartridge (which holds the stylus) and stylus aren't garbage (for example, the stylus should be made from diamond rather than sapphire or ruby and the cartridge shouldn’t be ceramic) and check your record player/turntable's counterweight and cartridge alignment. a counterweight that isn’t set properly will mean the stylus is pressing on your records too heavily or too lightly, both of which can damage records; a misaligned stylus will result in the sound not being properly balanced (for example, you might only hear sound from your left speaker). how to do all that depends on the hardware you have, unfortunately, but you can google your record player/turntable + how to do it and hopefully something'll come up lmao.

anyway, best of luck with collecting and i hope you enjoy it! i'm fairly new myself tbh so definitely don't take anything i say as gospel; i've just done a ton of research on equipment haha

THIS Corio that is adaptable, has me SO curious about what he wants, KNOWS what people want, but is at a place where he can pick moments to let his angrier instincts out (the thorns as a weapon was BRILLIANT and he seems like his scrappy but violent fighting style has been focused when he takes down the mayor (which if it rusn out his reaping was rigged because Coriol was sleeping with him I'll scream at the scandal)!!! And STILL had that Capitol pride that gets stronger the more he's back. (The contrast of his blouse introduction being loose to indecency to buttoned up again was one of my FAV bits of this.)

Again, SO curious what Corio wants (besides to win the games to survive.) He clocked Strabo right away, and I can imagine the DISGUST Corio has about a DISTRICT man thinking he's ABOVE a Snow, regardless of circumstances. Also just REALLY loved 'it was Capitol, born and bred', like his Capitol life vs Covey/District life and what is coming naturally and what is a show for whoever he needs to adapt to is FASCINATING!!!

BEAUTY is PERFECT!!! I'm so curious about Corio's Covey and District life; was he in Lucy's band? Or just the Covey? Did he sing for his supper or go to bed for it? Both? Did he have to adapt to work that made him stronger? Did he use sex to keep men around him to make his life a little easier? SO MUCH TO CONSIDER!!!

The outfit is killer btw, I love how Corio's s style is somewhat leaning to (possibly secondhand or at least well worn versions)'Gilded Age/Edwardian era' fashion. Also curious if being away from Capitol made him a bit more carefree (aka does the boy just prefer having his tits out? lol)

I will admit rooting for Sej. First off, you know I've def come around to him now (seeing better styled pics helped, but now even film Sej is hot to me now, how the turntables.) I always like the idea of Corio changing Sej into a powerful monster that makes dark decisions because he worships Corio like a god no matter what he does. (plus I always felt if they were allowed to be canon, I think Corio's love for being worshipped would override his district disdain (and it helps that Sej only gets hotter and hotter with age.) Ignore me if this is not in the plants tho, I just reread Sej deep d*cking Corio from the back fic, so I'm not impartial atm lmao.

did i keep any new year's resolutions: here were my personal goals for this year that i posted on january 6, let's see how many of them i hit:

watch at least 120 new-to-me films this year, with at least half directed/written by women and nonbinary filmmakers and by filmmakers of color (we hit one hundred films in 2021 with more than half directed by women, gotta step it up with filmmakers of color) 🔜 still working on it! definitely going to hit 120 films with half by women and nonbinary filmmakers, i think i'm going to hit around 30% filmmakers of color so definitely still need to do better on that

actually cook more dishes from the multitude of cookbooks i bought this year, especially/hopefully for friends ✅ definitely did a good job with making food for and with friends but there's always room for more :)

get more tattoos! 🔜 there's still time! we'll see if i pull that off before the end of the year lmao

publish at least three fics that i’ve had on the back burner ❌ lmfao we'll see if i get anything published before the end of the year but i am doubtful

publish virtually anything professionally since it’s been a minute (last major publication i had was the kubrick chapter which was fall 2020) ❌ (i did work on approximately fifteen shows and readings this year though so i count that as a win)

safety permitting, visit one of the following places: portland (again), seattle, san francisco, new orleans, nova scotia ✅ i did make it to san francisco!

catalogue and clean all of the vinyl i own (did not finish this last year and i’m well over three hundred records in my collection with me at school alone so this may still take a while) ✅ (i have around 450 records in my apartment now, and i have two new turntables and a mixer which is awesome)

go on more picnics and hikes and go to the beach more ✅ still definitely can and should do more!

so overall a fairly successful year!

Sometimes I really wonder whether harry really is a calm person naturally or whether he had to work on it. I have seen a lot of people saying that back in 1D, liam said he was the scariest when he's angry. We do know he gets jealous easily but I have a hard time seeing him as someone who yells or snaps because he is so calm

probably a bit of both, i think he does have an inherently calm aspect in many ways, i also think his time in therapy (which he's mentioned) has helped him a lot in learning how to deal with stress/anxiety/conflict resolution. i remember seeing a quote of his referencing the grammys and how the turntable for the AIW performance spun in the wrong direction, and how at first that was scary (which i imagine it was for everyone! you rehearse with choreography only for everyone to suddenly have to go the opposite way) and it threw him off, and at first he felt like he wished he could yell at someone, but then he took a step back and realized losing his temper wouldn't help anything or fix the situation, it had already happened, he got through it the best he could, nobody got hurt, and that was that. to me, that sounded like something he'd probably learned, whether as a coping mechanism or through many years of experience performing. it's hard for me to imagine him losing his temper too (but even the kindest and calmest of us can! i know i can and i am not a volatile or particularly assertive person by nature, sometimes we just get our buttons pushed, you know?), though he does seem to be an emotional person as well. with the jealousy i think he can get more passive aggressive/non-communicative from things he's written in lyrics (also super relatable to me, a conflict avoidant lmao). he's also grown a lot since 1D, he was very young and probably easier to get a rise out of in general, he could've naturally mellowed out between his late teens and his late twenties!

The way my Murdock iteration works, the Amulet he wears is cursed to make people 'forget' that he's there/they saw him at all when he's hunting. Y'know, Plot Armor? Meh- Illinois gave it to him as a sort of 'payment' for assassinating a rival treasure hunter.

15 minutes pass. Then 20. Y/N finds the Amulet on the ground beside the car with a busted chain. Well.

They take it and sneak in to find him turntables in a chair getting the shit beat out of him-

Murdock is a big fuckin guy, strong as fuck, deadly, moves really quietly. But when his bullshit armor doesn't work, he's liable to get fucked.

It would be a good idea to let him die, yknow? He's a heathen murder man. But, they realize that they're in too deep with this fucker complex emotions etc-

They kinda merc the guy beating his ass with Murdock's gun and have to help his dumbass to the car. No hospital, he's got a buddy who lost his medical license that patches him up when he gets hurt.

like on the one hand, these guys definitely aren’t going to cut it on their own, so it’s a reasonable suggestion on the face of it. but on the other hand, do we really want to entrust the OFA secret to a bunch of other people, most of whom shat the bed during the War arc to be quite frank? is it really worth the additional risk? especially given that any one of them might go spilling the beans to the public -- or worse, betray them to AFO??

what breaks my heart here is All Might. All Might, and everything he’s been through, and history repeating itself, and forcing him to live this moment from both sides because he wasn’t strong enough to fix things.

Toshinori had only just turned eighteen when Nana died. like, I feel like we don’t mention this enough. the All Might we know is a sixty-something-year-old man, and so everyone always talks about him like he’s basically been an adult forever. but he was a child when he met Nana. and he was still just a child when she died. barely a year older than Deku is now. younger than Mirio was when we first met him.

and we don’t talk about that. we don’t talk about how devastating that was for him. and we don’t talk about how the reason he grew up to become so reserved and withdrawn -- for all that he always tried so hard to outwardly project the image of a bold, confident, smiling hero -- was specifically because of what AFO did to him. because AFO targeted him in the exact way that he is now targeting Deku. because that’s what he does. he goes after every new user of OFA, and he finds out what’s most important to them, and then he destroys it. and for Toshinori, that was Nana. if you’ve read All Might Rising, you know that AFO basically killed her in front of him (and only killed her, while letting Toshinori and Gran get away). Toshinori (while crying) later says she was like a mother to him. and interestingly enough, during this same conversation, Gran tells Toshinori that he can see “that madness in [his] eyes” when Toshi talks about becoming strong enough to defeat AFO. madness in his eyes. sound familiar??

what’s happening to Deku now is the exact same thing that happened to Toshinori when he was a boy. AFO tried every bit as hard to break him as he’s trying with Deku now. “the path you’ve chosen is a thorny one. every battle grinds away at your soul with no end in sight.” we don’t talk about how Toshinori experienced this same thing for forty fucking years. and all the while isolating himself, exactly like Deku is doing now. pushing people away, exactly like Deku. because he never had anyone who was able to reach out and pull him back. and those words that he now finds himself frozen and unable to speak -- “don’t push yourself”; “you can rest” -- are the same words that no one ever said to him until decades later, when it was already far too late to make any difference.

everything that Deku is experiencing now is what Toshinori also went through. and it’s only now, as he watches it happen to his student, the boy he loves like a son, that he’s finally starting to realize the full extent of how wrong it was. you shouldn’t have to fight alone. you shouldn’t have to bear that kind of enormous burden alone. you shouldn’t have to push yourself, and you can rest. you can rest.

but it’s too late. just as he’s finally coming to understand it all, it’s all too fucking late. and he can’t say the words, he doesn’t know how to say the words, and then just like that, Deku is gone.

and he’s alone. again.)
