a list of things you should consider archiving and downloading to an external drive (hard drive or SSD) since the internet is becoming more precarious:
your tumblr blog (just export it, even if itâs 70GB like mine oops)
your spotify/apple music playlists (like, in text form or in actual mp3 downloads - or ideally both)
audio files from bands and artists who arenât on major labelsâŠwell okay AND major labels (BUY YOUR MUSIC, IT CAN BE TAKEN FROM YOU and we need to support artists!)
your favorite tiktoks and vine compilations
your watchlists + tbrs (like, write them down somewhere istg)
writing and art and blog posts/diary entries youâve posted online but donât have saved to your hard drive (substack is a great example)
contact info for online friends and followers (export your substack email list, ask your internet friends for their email or phone number)
your cloud content (icloud, google photos, etc - make sure you have that shit on an actual hard drive at least once bc the cloud isnât forever and neither is your phone)
if you use an app like notion (or apple notes) remember to periodically export this content to a drive so it doesnât live on a server or in an app
phone photos (but donât just download these and save them in multiple places, also consider printing them individually or in a photo book)
all those quotes and screenshots you have saved to your phone somewhere
reference videos
recipes you get from websites or pinterest or tiktok
content you have âsavedâ on your social media sites - inspo, future reference, important things to remember, cool images (remember to try and save the credit with the content so you know where it came from)
posts you revisit frequently (that funny world heritage post, that video you always laugh at when itâs on your dash, the song you have on repeat this week)
#lmk what im missing#archiving#sharing bc it is on my mind with the tiktok ban#people dont save shit to computers anymore and it stresses me out!!!!#what happens when the cloud goes down!!!!#bc it will!!!!!#personal

kinda funny how most programmers would prefer to not have to touch apple products with a ten-foot pole but if you talk to basically any designer over like 25 they'll swear up and down and backwards to friday that nothing could ever hold a candle to any apple product
#part of this is probably tied into the adobe suite/creative cloud being made mostly just for apple. for some reason.#so it doesn't work as well on windows and the app versions for android are pitiable#idek if you can use it on linux at all#i'm a designer btw but I'm definitely in the programmer camp#smh adobe get your freaking ACT TOGETHER I DON'T EVEN LIKE PHOTOSHOP BUT I'D SURE LIKE IT A LOT MORE IF IT WORKED ON MY COMPUTER#you're telling me I can render 3D modeling in maya just fine but I can't use the blur tool in photoshop without it crashing????#what kind of sick joke.....#apple v windows v linux#computer os#computers#programming#designers#adobe creative cloud

there used to be computer gods - back in the day - real ones you could believe in and do rituals for and get gifts.
in the early days, those gifts were given to individuals, names you probably know. Lovelace, Turing, Berners-Lee.
then. because humans are as we are. things became a little more organised, and out came the priests of an organised computer religion. IBM, Apple, Microsoft, eventually Google, Amazon, Facebook. They formed to help the masses make sense of and use of the powers of the computer gods. And for a time this was good.
Time passed, and things changed, and these organisations turned greedy not just towards the people they were guiding, but towards the computer gods themselves. Their ambitions could no longer be contained to the mortal realm.
And so they began to build on high Olympus - first slowly, just a rack here, a modest data centre there. And then in great leaps, cannibalising the home of the computer gods for their own ends. Tearing it apart and reshaping it to their own ends. Forcing the gods into the shape most valuable, or else forcing them to flee.
Without the computer gods to call upon, without their guidance and insight, the average user has lost the ability to wield these devices or make useful ends of their means. Some few still can, but it is harder. The flow is disrupted, and it is nigh impossible to work the magic without relying on the tools of the hubris-blind corporations who carved out all beauty from the heavens and replaced it with apparatus designed to extract monetary gain from the computational arts.
Where did these gods live, you may ask. Where were these crimes committed?
The cloud is someone else's computer. The Cloud is Someone Else's computer.
#the cloud is someone else's computer#and also computers are fucking hard work now in ways they didn't used to be#and these are the same statement#and sure I'm an atheist but at the same time#where else would a god have lived than a cloud#than The Cloud#anyway idk what this is but it's here now instead of rattling around my head for the next week

I forgot to say anything about it because the situation has been really confusing but I may be moving very suddenly this month so if my posts suddenly make it seem like I'm being tortured in a different way than usual it's probably because I had to put things in boxes.
#My mom keeps flipflopping about the situation though...#Last time i spoke to her i thought it had been decided on on one place but today she suddenly was deadset on a different one.#I just hope I won't be too busy for the deltarune release...#Though if somehow it takes so long that I can't use my computer in early june at least the steam deck is a lucky thing to own.#...BUT UNDERTALE DOESN'T USE STEAM CLOUD IN A NORMAL WAY!! WHAT IF DELTARUNE DOESN'T EITHER!!#I DON'T HAVE AN SD CARD OR A READER FOR IT I KEEP PUTTING OFF GETTING ONE!!!

Hello! 16 and 20 for the ask game?
16. At what point in the process do you come up with titles?
9 times out of 10 it's mere moments before hitting the post button lmao I am notoriously bad at thinking up titles and have to figure literally everything else out first before I can think if one. Sometimes, I randomly thinking the title when I'm preoccupied at work or smth but that doesn't happen all that often. Occasionally, the title will come first and I end up writing the fic around that, but that's even rarer.
20. What's your favourite title for a fic you've written?
Love my silly titles tbh. Games to Pass the Time (and Hurt Each Other), Here Comes Emmet With A Steel Chair!, and Heartwarming! Unovan Has Pizza In Over Four Years immediately come to mind.
Other, less silly, ones I like include What Was Forgotten cuz it fits nicely with it's counterpart and A Pain that Settles cuz I think it fits the fic really well.
#i am omce again giving multiple things despite the question saying 'one'#but idc!! i have a lot of faves actually#but yea it takes a comical amount of time to think up titles#straight up enlisted my friend who isnt anywhere NEAR this fandom to help with the tracks through the clouds title#they were spitballing ideas once i told them the basic plot and what i wanted from the title and i ended up sticking a few together#other than that most titles are thought up by me sitting and starinf intently at my computer monitor until smth comes to me#anyways ty for the ask!!#ask game#jumpscared by an ask once again

repeating the phrase "the cloud is just someone else's computer" to myself as I complete my mandatory work training lest I get sucked in by the marketing terms
#there was a section on 'serverless cloud computing' and i was like WHAT#and the explanation was oh no there are servers managed by the cloud provider#it's just that the customer doesn't have to worry about it and doesn't interact with it#like bestie i don't think that's what serverless means#going to mcdicks for my grill-less burger#it's still grilled by the staff but i don't have to worry about it#reilly.txt

That tweet about each ai prompt wasting a full 16oz of water isn't true like at all
#also like generally there isn't that much relative waste in water cooling electronics. it takes heat from the cpu then travels to dump the#heat then goes back for more. in a closed loop. you dont have a hose constantly spraying the water out it gets reused every time#in a very large data center like Microsoft is using you might see fresh water pumped in though. but ai is a fraction of this#'cloud computing' is what built the infrastructure and what the majority of this is

I havenât seen you around much here lately, so I just wanted to say I hope youâre doing well ^^ . If you have any life challenges going on right now, I believe in you to conquer them!!!
thank you!!! the life challenges is my phone and computer both had a stroke and died within a month of each other đ it was super cursed but im cool im being very brave about it
#asks#to be more specific my phones circuit board got yoasted basically overnight#i had to get a new one and any data not saved to The Cloud or stored externally went byebye#it wasn tthat big a deal but it didnt mean i had to go through all my apps and re log myself in#only for some reason i just Would Not log on to tumblr. like the brain wasnt allowing it#which mught have something to do with how fucking embarrassing it is (for me only) that i did one (1) day of 79 week and then ate shit#anyways while i was grappling with the executive dysfuntion about all that. guess what happened to my fucking computer.#and then three days later my partner's pc ALSO broke outta nowhere???? any advice on handling technology based curses is welcome#and i was sort of like!!! i guess this is one way for the universe to tell be to take a break!!!!#so i spent a month doing other shit. playing ps4 games mostly#and then i got SUPER into cult of the lamb and went fucking insane with the need to see fanart for thos stupid fucking catboy#so i finally got back into my tumblr account :]#and now i am going insane with how much i want to do art!!!! and cannot do art!!!!!!! because i still dont have a computer!!!!!!#we're working on it its just taking some time#tldr im fine just silly and possibly cursed
