Rolling my eyes so hard when ppl are like "buy a natural diamond cus they have resale value" bitchhhhh no they don't!! Can you exchange them for money? Yes! But you'll be getting literally like 25-35% of what you paid for them. Does resale value even matter at that point

"I didn't think [we] would get this far"
@summer-of-bad-batch prompt week 11 (sorry I tweaked the wording slightly to make it fit the story ^^;)
Fandom: The Bad Batch Characters/Relationships: Tech/Phee Set during Tech and Phee's courtship which happened off-screen, obviously Word Count: ~555 Read Here on AO3
Synopsis: Tech and Phee debate the merits of lab-grown versus natural.
With thanks to @fanfoolishness who is the one who suggested I try and fit my Specialist Subject into a fanfic XD
Tumblr media
“It’s just not the same, y’know?” said Phee, gesturing with her drink to emphasise her point. “It’s not!”
“On the contrary,” countered Tech, watching her animated speech from across the table. “It is exactly the same. A synthetic diamond is chemically, physically and optically identical to its natural counterpart. It is merely the origin which differs.”
“Where’s the romance?” Leaning forwards, Phee fixed him with a mischievous look. “Your lab-grown so-called ‘diamonds’ can’t compare to the mystery of a gemstone formed millions of years ago, deep underground…” She was gesturing expansively now, becoming impassioned. “Erupted to the surface in a boiling column of lava, and eventually weathered from its host rock over eons of exposure…”
“Are you suggesting,” said Tech carefully, giving her the side-eye, “that a laboratory-grown counterpart cannot compare to the natural specimen on which it was based?” He held up a finger, lips pursed in amusement. “Think carefully before you answer, my dear.”
Phee already had her mouth open to argue her point when she paused, considering her words. She swatted playfully at his finger, grinning widely. “Alright, Brown-Eyes, you win this round.”
Tech’s smug smirk didn’t last as she leaned across the table to plant a kiss on his lips, lingering just a little longer than she usually did.
“I still think ‘synthetic diamonds’ lack romance, though,” she added as she pulled away.
“Your views have been noted.” He tapped something into his datapad. “If any of your friends or relations should approach me for gift-giving advice, I shall inform them that the natural geological origin of any jewelled ornaments they purchase for you is of the utmost importance.”
“I mean,” said Phee, unable to contain her smirk, “it’s not any of them who are going to be buying me diamonds.”
“I don’t know why not… oh.”
The exact moment that realisation dawned on Tech was registered by the slight dilation of his pupils, and the pretty blush that came to his cheeks.
“Another nat-born tradition?” he asked, forcing a casual lilt to his voice. “Only romantic partners engage in the diamond-gifting process?”
Phee grinned widely, resting her chin on top of her laced fingers. “Got it in one.”
“Ah. Hmm. I see.” Tech adjusted his goggles, the way he did to buy himself time to think.
Taking pity on him, Phee nudged her foot against his under the table. “This didn’t come up during your research?” she teased lightly. Tech had told her during their last date that he had been researching courtship customs, “So I may best prepare to meet your expectations as we pursue this romantic endeavour.”
“I admit, I stopped reading before I reached the chapter on gift-exchange customs.” Tech was blushing fiercely now, but he met her eyes with a shy smile. “I didn’t think we would get this far quite so quickly.” And despite his embarrassment, now he took the initiative to lean across the table and capture Phee’s lips in a tentative kiss.
Phee smiled against his mouth, bringing one hand up to gently hold the back of his head, fingertips teasing along the strap of his goggles.
“Tell you what, Brown-Eyes,” she said, voice simultaneously sultry and full of amusement. “When we reach the gift-giving chapter, if you buy me a big enough diamond, I won’t even ask where it came from.”
Tumblr media
Yes I leaned into received wisdom about engagement ring gifting for the purpose of this story but lets be honest, we live in modern times, ladies you don't have to wait for a guy to put a ring on it... you can buy your own diamonds and love them just as much ;)
Sincerely, an industry professional who buys her own jewellery. I'm here all week for your jewellery and gemstone related questions ^_^ <3

The lab-grown vs. natural diamond discussion is literally the “why buy designer when you can buy a knockoff that looks the same” discussion.
Obviously don’t spend $7k on an engagement ring if you can’t afford it but look at it like this: for day-to-day wear, I wait until there are sales but I’m letting my mom buy me a custom-made designer wedding dress because I’m her only child and it’s a once-in-lifetime event.

Buying Crystals - Lab-Grown Crystals
Part 3 of a 7 part guide on buying crystals. Read the rest here!
Lab-grown (synthetic) crystals get a bad rep within metaphysical circles for no good reason. Why should you give them a chance?
What Makes a Crystal Lab-Grown?
Synthetic crystals are crystals made in a controlled artificial environment that simulates their natural growing conditions. This is done in two ways: high pressure/high temperature, where a seed crystal is placed in carbon and exposed to the high pressure and temperature similar to what it would experience in the ground; and chemical vapour deposition, where the seed crystal is heated in a chamber filled with gas that allows the seed to grow layers of crystal.¹
You can actually watch how crystals are made on YouTube!
Opal
Quartz
Ruby in a microwave, arc welder rubies
Corundum, flame vs flux
Emeralds
Diamonds
Differences and Similarities Between Synthetics and Natural Crystals
Ways in which they’re similar:¹ ⁸
Chemical composition. Any synthetic crystal you get is going to be identical in chemical properties to any natural crystal. Which also means they are also the same in...
Crystal structure, or lack thereof. Opals are trickier to get right because they’re not real crystals; their atomic structure isn’t repeated in a specific pattern. That amorphous quality is why they have their fire! However, most crystals are real crystals, and thus, their crystal structure is easy to replicate in the lab.
Colour
Hardness.
Refractive index.
Ways in which they’re different:¹⁻²
More uniform appearance. Uncut synthetics look incredibly edible, like Jolly Ranchers. Natural crystals often have varying colours.
Odd overall appearance. synthetics, when uncut, look like chunks of glass, blocks, or otherwise unnatural shapes. Natural crystals vary wildly in shape, but have that crystal appearance with cracks and points and geometric shapes that you instantly recognise as a crystal.
Clarity. Due to their highly controlled environment, synthetics have superior colour clarity and colour intensity than natural counterparts. synthetics, when cut, can resemble the most perfect of natural crystals.
These differences is why you will often see synthetics not sold as raw crystals, but as faceted gems, though you can find raw synthetics online.
Benefits of Buying Synthetics Over Natural Crystals
If you are concerned about ethics and price, synthetics are your best friend. Because they are easily made, they’re often much cheaper than real crystals, and because they are made in labs, they’re not subject to the human rights abuses and environmental harm that mines often cause.¹⁻³
The Metaphysical Argument Against Synthetics
Part one of this series about the ethics around crystals is recommended reading here because I will retread the same ground.
The main metaphysical argument I see is that crystals take on the energy of the environment they’re grown in, and their healing power comes from being in the Earth.⁴ ⁷ ⁸ Lab-grown crystals may have the same healing properties, but they are less powerful due to their artificial origin.⁵ They may also take on the energies of the lab and the people who made them, affecting their ability to do their job.⁴ I found one that claims they are “devoid” of the energy used to make them effective for healing⁶, and another claiming they are “energetically dead.” ⁷
If you believe this, there’s not much I can do to change you from that. There’s no central text of crystal authority like there is for Christianity. But, if you will humour me, let me talk though some common stances on how crystals are able to heal in reference to synthetics.
Suppose synthetics can take on the energies of the lab. Why can’t your natural crystals take on the massive energetic outpouring of human suffering in these mines? Does the Earth’s energy override the grief, anger, sadness, anxiety, and death surrounding the crystal as it is mined? If the human suffering that may be attached to your crystal is not enough (for reasons I can’t fathom), think about the energies of the Earth being violently disturbed and permanently altered by the process of mining. Do you think a crystal will have the same energies if mined in a way that furthers the destruction of the environment as one that is mined more consciously?
Suppose you believe that the healing properties come from the physical and chemical structure of the crystal. In that case, there’s no reason to be concerned about synthetics. As I’ve shown above, they are identical to natural crystals. Their crystalline structure is the same, their chemical composition is the same: they are the same thing!
Suppose you believe that crystals have no inherent power, but the intent behind their use is what drives their effects. In that case, there’s no metaphysical reason to prefer natural crystals over synthetics. It wouldn’t matter if you were using a natural crystal, synthetic crystal, a plastic crystal, an ice cube (which is scientifically a crystal), slag, or anything else because the power doesn’t come from the crystal itself, it comes from you.
I can’t stop you from believing that synthetics are lesser than natural, but think about the reasons and logical conclusions of said belief. Why would synthetics hold the energy of those who created them if naturals don’t have the energy of those who mined them? Why would a crystal with identical physical properties outside of how it was made be metaphysically different from the real one?
I get it. Natural crystals are pretty and I don’t like how obviously artificial synthetics look. It feels better spiritually to own something made in the Earth than something grown in a lab because it makes you feel connected to the Earth. But again, is that worth human suffering? Is that worth environmental destruction? And failing those (again, for reasons I can’t fathom), is it worth your wallet?
Speaking of your wallet, in the next part I’ll be covering trademarked crystals. If that sounds fucked up to you, you’re absolutely right.

Dazzling Decisions: Choosing Lab-Created Diamonds for Your Wedding
Tumblr media
When it comes to choosing the perfect engagement or wedding ring, many couples find themselves at a crossroads between traditional mined diamonds and their stunning lab-grown counterparts. Lab-created diamonds, often referred to as man-made diamonds, have gained immense popularity in recent years due to their ethical, environmental, and economic advantages. Let’s see why lab-grown diamonds are a brilliant choice for your wedding, and where you can find reputable lab-grown diamond manufacturers and exporters.
What Are Lab-Grown Diamonds?
Lab-grown diamonds, as the name suggests, are created in a controlled environment rather than being mined from the earth. These diamonds possess the same physical, chemical, and optical properties as natural diamonds, making them indistinguishable to the naked eye. They are composed of carbon atoms arranged in a crystal lattice structure, just like their mined counterparts.
The Ethical Advantage
One of the most compelling reasons to opt for lab-grown diamonds is their ethical sourcing. Traditional diamond mining has been associated with unethical practices, including child labor and environmental degradation. By choosing lab-grown diamonds, you can ensure that your symbol of love is free from such negative associations. These diamonds are created in labs, where labor conditions are closely monitored, and their production has a significantly lower impact on the environment.
Eco-Friendly and Sustainable
Lab-grown diamonds are also a sustainable choice. The mining of natural diamonds is an energy-intensive process that often involves extensive land disruption. In contrast, creating lab-grown diamonds requires less energy and results in significantly lower carbon emissions. Additionally, the reduced land use preserves natural habitats.
Cost-Effective
Weddings can be expensive, and every dollar counts. Lab-grown diamonds tend to be more affordable than their natural counterparts, making it easier for couples to invest in a stunning and ethical engagement or wedding ring without breaking the bank.
Lab-Grown Diamond Manufacturers and Exporters
Now that you’re convinced of the merits of lab-grown diamonds, it’s important to know where to find these dazzling gems. Reputable lab-grown diamond manufacturers and exporters play a crucial role in providing consumers with high-quality options. Here are some tips on how to find them:
Research Online: Start your search online by looking for well-known lab-grown diamond manufacturers and exporters. Browse their websites, read customer reviews, and learn about their processes and certifications.
Certifications: Ensure that the manufacturer you choose complies with industry standards and possesses necessary certifications for ethical and sustainable practices.
Customization Options: Look for manufacturers that offer customization options, allowing you to create a unique and personalized piece of jewelry.
Transparency: Opt for a manufacturer that is transparent about the sourcing and production of their lab-grown diamonds. This transparency builds trust and confidence in your purchase.
Your Dazzling Decision
Your wedding is a special day filled with love and commitment, and the ring you exchange should symbolize those values. Lab-grown diamonds offer a brilliant choice for couples seeking ethical, eco-friendly, and cost-effective options. By choosing lab-grown diamonds, you not only make a stunning fashion statement but also contribute to a more ethical and sustainable jewelry industry.
Make the dazzling decision today to opt for lab-grown diamonds for your wedding, and you’ll not only wear a beautiful gem but also wear your values on your finger.

Any crystals that you think are cool and that more people should know about?
Sorry for the late reply (I'm busy traveling) but yes!!! I don't have ground breaking totally unknown crystals for you but from my collection I will tell talk about some fun little rocks.
-
Let's start with what is arguably my favourite crystal and it's a pretty underrated one;
iolite
Yes, that's where the Violet_Iolite username comes from (it's my username almost everywhere else besides here)
Tumblr media
I have a polished and cut iolite which surprisingly might not be the most interesting form of this mineral. Iolite, or cordierite (the actual mineral name, iolite is the name used in the gem selling business) is a stone that depending on the side it can vary from a light yellow to a purple/blue. Mine is cut in a way where the blue is always the most visible but the sides have the slightest nod to the yellow. Some of the best raw forms will change between these two colours if you turn them around.
Tumblr media
I will say the iolite names comes from the Greek ios, violet. So yes, my Minecraft username is something like Violet violet (stone).
-
Next I will talk about fake crystals versus lab grown ones...
When I say a fake crystals I mean crystals that are sold as other ones when that's not what they are.
Lab grown gems are different in the way that they are chemically the same as natural gems found in nature. In case of diamonds for example is much better for the environment (and in some cases for the health of the miners) if you get a lab grown one. However not all gems are possible to produce in a lab, sometimes they're more expensive to produce in the lab and in cases of quartz based gems the natural gems are so common it isn't worth it.
I'm mentioning this because of the next gems I will show.
-
Moonstone and sunstone.
Moonstones and sunstones are probably the gems that are most faked (turquoise too but at least turquoise is rare).
Moonstone is a type of light coloured stone (either white, sometimes pink) which has a very pretty blue glow (occasionally it gets a yellow one too) only in certain angles. Opaline (or opalite), a man made gem, is very commonly sold as moonstone however opaline is not even close to being moonstone. Opaline is translucent in a way moonstone isn't and it doesn't have the shine moonstone has. Opaline is a type of glass which commonly has dolomite and metal to make it the colour it is. It was actually made to copy opals so I don't really know why people try calling it moonstone.
Next is sunstone! Orange or brown in colour sunstone is not that special looking. If it's high-quality it will be more translucent and it might have some touches of sparkles but it's not usually something very strong. Our fake stone this time is Goldstone. Also a man made glass goldstone is made with copper.
There's a blue version of golstone which instead of having copper it has cobalt or manganese.
Tumblr media
I have booth types of goldstone (the blue one is my favourite)
Tumblr media
-
One that is moderately well known but it's absolutely cool anyway:
Alexandrite
One I recommend you buy lab grown or you'll waste all the money you have. Alexandrite is super cool because depending on the type of light you shine on it the colour will change completely. My alexandrite when in LED light (the light that most lamps have nowadays) or natural light is green. When under incandescent light (old lamps) it gets completely pink. If you lived only under incandescent light you'd believe it to be a pink stone.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
When under both types of light:
Tumblr media
-
Chalcopyrite (peacock)
Similar to pyrite but softer, with copper and and can tarnish with pretty colours chalcopyrite is a pretty cool metal. Wikipedia says it is "the most abundant copper ore mineral." So the copper you have in your cables is most likely from this mineral.
Chalcopyrite is in front and the pyrite (unfocused) is in the back of the picture.
Tumblr media
-
Bismuth
I could've actually gotten an ok priced natural bismuth but I decided that getting a bigger sized would probably be better. This one might be lab grown. I'm not sure. The lady that sold me didn't know where it was from. It is 100% heat treated either way, as heating it gives it the lovely colours it has. It is a metal and according to Wikipedia it is "both the most diamagnetic element and one of the least thermally conductive metals known."
Tumblr media
So... The last two are actually metal and not crystal but they are cool rocks so it's fine either way.

Cultured Diamonds vs Lab Grown Diamonds: What's the Difference?
Tumblr media
These days, many people are interested in buying diamonds. Diamonds are popular choices for engagement rings and other special occasions.
With so many options available now, you might get confused, so here’s your guide to know the difference between cultured vs lab-grown diamonds. Let's clear that up!
What Are Cultured Diamonds?
Diamonds come in several types. The traditional choice is earth-mined diamonds, which everyone knows. But there are also other types like laser-cut diamonds and fracture-filled ones. These have specific treatments that can make them more affordable.
Recently, many people have turned to lab-grown diamonds. These diamonds are created in a lab but are real diamonds with the same physical and chemical properties as earth-mined ones. They are also known as synthetic, man-made, or created diamonds.
It's important to distinguish these from diamond simulants, which are not true diamonds. Simulants might be made of materials like cubic zirconia or glass, which look like diamonds but don't have the same qualities.
Why Are Cultured Diamonds Popular?
Cultured diamonds, also known as lab-grown diamonds, are real diamonds created in a laboratory setting. Unlike natural diamonds, which take millions of years to form deep within the Earth, cultured diamonds are produced using advanced technology in controlled environments. This process makes them a more sustainable and ethical choice, and they are often more affordable than mined diamonds.
As a result, many couples are choosing Lab Grown Designer Engagement Rings Antwerpen. These rings offer beautiful and unique designs that can be more budget-friendly than natural diamonds. Not only do they provide authenticity and elegance, but they also deliver durability and a distinct look.
Cultured diamonds have become popular for several reasons:
Price: They often cost less than earth-mined diamonds, so you can get a larger or higher-quality diamond for the same budget.
Beauty: Lab-grown diamonds can be just as beautiful and clear as natural diamonds.
Sustainability: No mining is involved, so they have a smaller environmental impact.
How Are They Made?
Cultured diamonds are made in a lab using special equipment that mimics the high pressure and temperature conditions found deep in the Earth. This process takes a few weeks, compared to billions of years for natural diamonds. The result is a diamond with controlled clarity and color.
Are Cultured Diamonds Durable?
Yes, they are! Cultured diamonds have the same hardness as natural diamonds, making them a great choice for everyday wear. They are just as resistant to scratching and dulling.
What is the best grade for cultured lab-grown diamonds?
When choosing a metal for your lab-grown diamond engagement ring, 18K white gold is a popular and reliable option.
Lab Grown Designer Engagement Rings Antwerpen looks fantastic with 18K gold. This gold is made of 75% pure gold mixed with other metals, giving it a beautiful and durable finish. 18K gold rings are elegant and provide the same luxurious appearance as natural diamonds, but they are usually more affordable and ethical. Lab-grown diamonds match the quality and sparkle of natural ones. For an engagement ring or any fine jewelry, pairing 18K gold with lab-grown diamonds offers both style and sustainability, making it a great choice.
Is a Cultured Diamond Right for You?
If you're considering a cultured diamond, you're choosing a beautiful, cost-effective, and eco-friendly option. They can be an excellent choice for anyone looking to enjoy a stunning diamond while being mindful of the environment.
Differences Between Cultured and Mined Diamonds
That’s all about Labgrown aka Cultured diamonds. Now, let’s discover what makes them different from Natural Diamonds. Here’s a simple comparison to help you make informed decisions:
Origin and Formation: Cultured diamonds are created in labs, while mined diamonds form naturally over millions of years.
Environmental Impact: Cultured diamonds have a smaller environmental footprint. They don’t cause the ecological disruption associated with mining.
Cost and Accessibility: Cultured diamonds are typically less expensive than mined diamonds, offering a more budget-friendly option without sacrificing quality.
Ethical Considerations: Cultured diamonds are guaranteed to be conflict-free, addressing many of the ethical issues associated with traditional diamond mining.
Customization: Lab-grown diamonds offer more control over their creation, allowing for precise customization and consistency in quality.

Choosing a lab-grown diamond means you get the same dazzling beauty and durability as mined diamonds but with the added benefit of knowing your gemstone was ethically sourced and environmentally friendly. 🌍🌱 Lab-grown diamonds are free from the concerns associated with traditional mining, making them an excellent option for conscious consumers.
The Romance of Rose Gold & Halo Settings 🌹💍
There's something undeniably romantic about rose gold. Its warm, blush hue complements a variety of skin tones and adds a modern touch to classic designs. When combined with a halo setting, the rose gold enhances the diamond’s sparkle, making it a popular choice for engagement rings.
The halo setting is perfect for those who love a little extra sparkle. Surrounding the center diamond with a circle of smaller diamonds, the halo makes the main stone look larger and more radiant. It's a design that balances both vintage charm and modern glamour, making it a beautiful choice for those looking to make a statement.💫
The Allure of Solitaire Halo Diamond Rings
For those who appreciate a minimalist yet glamorous style, the solitaire halo diamond ring is a showstopper. A single diamond takes center stage, surrounded by a delicate halo of smaller diamonds. This design offers a perfect mix of simplicity and sparkle—ideal for women who value timeless beauty with a modern edge. 👑💎
Lab Grown Handmade Rings: A Thoughtful Gift for Women
Whether you’re buying for an engagement, a wedding, or a special occasion, a lab-grown handmade ring makes for an unforgettable gift. Each ring is carefully crafted, offering a personal touch that mass-produced jewelry simply can’t match. The fact that it’s made from lab-grown diamonds only adds to its significance, symbolizing ethical luxury and sustainability. 🎁✨
Conclusion
When it comes to celebrating love, beauty, and ethical values, the Emerald Cut Lab Grown Diamond Ring is the perfect choice. Whether you're drawn to the romance of rose gold, the timeless elegance of an emerald cut, or the sparkle of a halo setting, these rings bring something unique to the table.
If you're searching for the perfect gift or the ideal engagement ring, explore the world of lab-grown diamonds—and make a choice that’s as beautiful on the inside as it is on the outside. 💎🌹

This results in diamonds that are just as brilliant and durable as those found in nature, but without the environmental and ethical concerns associated with traditional mining.
