So, Discord has added a feature that lets other people "enhance" or "edit" your images with different AI apps. It looks like this:

Currently, you can't opt out from this at all. But here's few things you can do as a protest.

FOR SERVERS YOU ARE AN ADMIN IN

Go to Roles -> @/everyone roles -> Scroll all the way down to External Apps, and disable it. This won't delete the option, but it will make people receive a private message instead when they use it, protecting your users:

You should also make it a bannable offense to edit other user's images with AI. Here's how I worded it in my server, feel free to copypaste:

Do not modify other people's images with AI under ANY circumstances, such as with the Discord "enhancement" features, amidst others. This is a bannable offense.

COMPLAIN TO DISCORD

There's few ways to go around this. First, you can go to https://support.discord.com/hc/en-us/requests/new , select Help and Support -> Feedback/New Feature Request, and write your message, as seen in the screenshot below.

For the message, here's some points you can bring up:

Concerns about harassment (such as people using this feature to bully others)

Concerns about privacy (concerns on how External Apps may break privacy or handle the data in the images, and how it may break some legislations, such as GDPR)

Concerns about how this may impact minors (these features could be used with pictures of irl minors shared in servers, for deeply nefarious purposes)

BE VERY CLEAR about "I will refuse to buy Nitro and will cancel my subscription if this feature remains as it is", since they only care about fucking money

Word them as you'd like, add onto them as you need. They sometimes filter messages that are copypasted templates, so finding ways to word them on your own is helpful.

ADDING: You WILL NEED to reply to the mail you receive afterwards for the message to get sent to an actual human! Otherwise it won't reach anyone

UNSUSCRIBE FROM NITRO

This is what they care about the most. Unsuscribe from Nitro. Tell them why you unsuscribed on the way out. DO NOT GIVE THEM MONEY. They're a company. They take actions for profit. If these actions do not get them profit, they will need to backtrack. Mass-unsuscribing from WOTC's DnD beyond forced them to back down with the OGL, this works.

LEAVE A ONE-STAR REVIEW ON THE APP

This impacts their visibility on the App store. Write why are you leaving the one-star review too.

Regardless of your stance on AI, I think we can agree that having no way for users to opt out of these pictures is deeply concerning, specially when Discord is often used to share selfies. It's also a good time to remember internet privacy and safety- Maybe don't post your photos in big open public servers, if you don't want to risk people doing edits or modifications of them with AI (or any other way). Once it's posted, it's out of your control.

There’s attributes for small moths in aether ridge, and I feel they were definitely meant to spawn there at some point considering the teaser with a small moth seeming to also be in aether ridge. I think them being au exclusive was a later development decision.

PSA: Harassment in the game is bannable, even if it's against someone you don't like, who did you wrong in some way, who is generally not well liked, or even who you think did a heinous thing. People have gotten bans for following players around linking evidence albums in say and yell, spawning toys on them and standing on top of them with huge mounts. People have gotten bans for whispering them messages telling people to go away, to uninstall the game and delete themselves to people that they heard were doing bad stuff. People have gotten bans for insulting people OOC. Hell, if someone reports it you could get a ban for IC insults too.

Unless wasting the money you paid for your account is some kind of findom kink for you, consider instead - don't. If you feel like someone needs to be warned about someone, talk to them in private. Post here. Tell your buddies in Discord. There is no "oh but it's okay because I have screenshots where they defend pedos/were racist/said transphobic stuff/said mean things to me earlier" when it comes to what will get you booted from the game, you don't get to make a case for why it's really okay, justified, or "not that bad". The GMs look at the logs, and if you were stupid enough to call someone a lame twink out loud where people could see it and you get reported, enjoy not playing the game for a while. Penalties stack, too, you could end up losing your whole account if you keep it up.

Some people are ridiculous about the control they have over members of a closed species xD

Somebody I follow was reselling some characters from a closed species (not gonna mention the name of the species or anything, I don't wanna cause any problems) and... The original creator wanted you to fill out and sign an TOS form to own one of their characters. And wait for them to accept said TOS to send the character to the new owner if it was sold. So, curious, I looked at the TOS expecting just basic stuff. But... No. They wanted to control everything about the character. Things like modifying ears or the tail (Like if they lost their tail, or an ear got nicked or cut off) requiring payment and art being made to be official. This makes some sense in an ARPG setting but this wasn't an ARPG. They even wanted to control what you did with said character in RP. If you RPed your character and in said RP, they ended up with a kid.... You have to pay for it even if it's just a one off thing in one RP or risk being banned from the species as a whole. ANY change, no matter how minute, required paying the creator of the species. There were limits on the lore and setting the character could be in. Fucking hell, at that point why make the species available at all if you want complete control over it?? They even want to control how much you sell the character for. Selling it for below the original price is a fucking bannable offense. Sheesh.

There's one species I absolutely want nothing to do with, even if I could afford to buy one. XD I don't want that exclusive cool-kids club bullshit. Fuuuuuck that! XD

just left a discord server over intersexism. it wasn't the most egregious ever, but we don't have the bandwidth for perisex people being weird about intersex people rn.

it was supposed to be an inclusive server. at some point, someone starts talking about their identity and how some people have said they were being intersexist by identifying a certain way but didn't know why it was considered that. we chimed in to explain why and the history of it, and we made sure to mention "we're intersex, this is why some intersex people feel it's intersexist, we're not just pulling the reasoning out of our ass as a random perisex person", and they essentially responded "okay well i didn't know that, and it's an important piece of my identity. people should just let me live"

and like. the guy who was fronting is blunt and isn't always perfect about wording, but the general gist of its message was "we think it's whatever and doesn't really matter" (which, we kind of didn't, but based on their responses & how the general conversation was, we didn't feel safe to say that lol)

and they. interpreted it in the absolute worst way possible. basically saying we were accusing them of being intersexist and being passive aggressive about it. and when someone tried to explain what we "might have" meant in a more generous light, they immediately shut it down.

one piece to note: this was the owner of the server. and they accused us of being exclusionist over something they badly misinterpreted. which, since this was supposed to be an inclusive server, would've been a bannable offense. and the extra kicker is that, when shutting down the person who was trying to offer a more generous reading of what the particular headmate said, they repeatedly misgendered this headmate, who has its pronouns in its displayname.

it explained what it had meant. the server owner basically went "oh, whoops". and it had to bring up multiple times that they had misgendered it before they went "oh, sorry! i tunnel-visioned because of my bpd and didn't realize those were your pronouns"

later in, another intersex person chimed in, saying they didn't think it was intersexist. the server owner responded with [paraphrased] "i value your opinion because you're intersex".

again. we'd said we were intersex in the first message we sent. 'twould appear, from our perspective, that intersex opinions were only valued if it seemed like they agreed with the server owner that they weren't being intersexist.

sigh.

(we noticed later on that whenever we talked about being intersex, it was met with radio silence; the other person had left, and so far as we could tell, we were then the only intersex person left on the server. we didn't leave until a couple of weeks after the described incident, but it was the main thing that drove us to make the decision to leave because we just could not get the bad taste out of our mouth)

The last snippet got a really good response so I'm gonna share another one, although it's...a lot harder to read. Smaller text on this one. I'm getting there.

I'm finally out of the weeds of the "Origins and Presentation" section and can move on to finishing the section about Genesis being related to Gillian (which has been moved to be the second section, not the first) and then get into the actual point of this damn paper: the nitty-gritty scientific weirdness of mitochondria and why they are (in my eyes) the main vector responsible for degradation.

However, I've run into a problem. I know that tumblr has an issue with adding more than a certain number of links to a post, and I'm already up to 27 citations on this thing. I am most certainly less than halfway through—maybe less than a quarter—and haven't even gotten into the complicated science stuff yet. This means I literally won't be able post the finished piece here without breaking the citations I've been working so hard to maintain.

I'm...debating putting it on AO3? I know the ToS allows meta, but I also know it's kind of frowned upon by a lot of users over there, so I'm a bit leery. I have pretty vivid memories of people saying that allowing meta analysis on the archive was the literary equivalent of an online fine art gallery showcasing screenshot edits and gifsets, and a lot of people calling for posting meta without tagging it as such to be a bannable offense.

I guess it's still a long way off, I'm nowhere near finished—but whenever it is done I'd really like it to end up somewhere it'll actually be seen, and I just don't know that there's an avenue for that anymore.

Sorry to hear about the entire shitfest with the DD contest and I think you argued your case well. It adds insult to injury that you showed your picture beforehand but the disqualification came right at the end of the deadline.

It's also double standards that Dismas' manspread bulge in the CC is fine, so is Amani and Audrey's backstory but someone has a seriously troubling view on what counts as erotica and they kick you out for it.

I saw this picture and thought "this looks familiar" but I couldn't really place why until you showed the For Honor reference (shame on me, I played that game like an addict for a while, even made a Reynauld character) and that is a pretty cool kill move. And you did the reference justice.

I hope that in time you will be able to look at the piece and not think of it as a waste of time. Sometimes it's hard to love a product when the people behind it disappoint us so much.

the real salt to injury was that disqualification came *after* the showcase was posted. it's been an hour since all participants were shown in a new channel, and i started to get nervous and had to ask around who should i even talk to to get any info on what happened with my work. i thought that maybe i messed up and sent confirmation to rules from one email and the work itself from another... so the "too violent" (as i understood at the time) disqualification was like a kick to the throat.

when i started posting about the fact that i was disqualified for "violence" and people started wondering, then the mods came into picture. and the first one who contacted me even was on my side, seeing this as some mistake as well. so i had my false hopes.

i didn't include those snapshots because they were basically a couple of words with a promise to look into things. it was Lux, if anyone is wondering.

then the gem who wasted a few hours of my life appeared, trying to gaslight me into believing that incel interpretation of an execution pose is somehow my fault... you know the rest. by that point i wasn't meek or baffled. i was pissed.

now i'm mostly numb. double standards are the way to go, i suppose. when the guy argued that depiction of canonical events is bannable in the Hellsing he brought out of nowhere, i knew it was a lost cause.

Hello, I'm back with another ask and... I'm also back on Santae and their discord server. As of yesterday, I have been FULLY unbanned from both of those, and have been given a reason for my initial ban.

To respect the privacy of users, I can't explain exactly how I got unbanned. However, it appears that the staff members have only noticed/processed my email support ticket when a normal server member asked about it. Well, initally they were told to tell me to open a ticket using their support email, and when the staff learned I had sent one more than two weeks ago, they unbanned me very fast, and apologized in the email, inviting me to provide feedback.

So that's what I did: immediately upon rejoining the server, I opened a ticket, asking why I was banned initially. A staff member was quick to answer (well.. It was 2am for me so I was asleep. That didn't affect anything in a bad way thankfully)

They immediately apologized: my ban was a mistake on their end, and should not have occured. Not only that, but they explained that the waiting time, and the way my ticket was handled initially was unacceptable, and due to that, they were working on a new way to process email support tickets (afaik discord tickets get answered super fast, but email tickets not so much as we have seen.)

While I was at it, I asked if offsite comments were a bannable offense.

I was told that they generally weren't, unless for safety concerns. Basically none of what I said would have been bannable. Take that as you will.

I wasn't asked for my ID at all, so I can't speak on that, but if we ignore the fact it took me weeks and a non-staff member to ask things for me well... Staff was very nice to me during this.

I think I'll keep playing for now. Of course I'll also keep an eye on the situation, since the AI art situation is a concern for me, but if they're willing to take feedback and change for the better then. That's great

they still need to fix the way they handle people's information though lol the newsletter thing still scared me I'm willing to try and forward them more feedback from now on, and see if that works. I've seen on their server that they upped the drop rates for the orbs that I heard were originally very grindy to get. I think I'll try to suggest giving equal chances to people onsite only and discord members, when i rejoined the server, a bot immediately prompted the people inside of the beta channel to send me gifts since it thought I was new. AFAIK there isn't such a thing on the site and that's a bummer.

it's not just party music assumptions that confuse me, it's on all sorts of levels, like the haus being their only team related off campus space. we had... 11?? off campus houses?? and even if you narrow it down to just houses w mens distance runners in it (approx the same number of people as umich's hockey team rosters) then we had 5 houses plus underclassmen in dorms. like the math is not mathing if there's just the 3 bedroom plus attic haus. what 21/22 year old is choosing to live in a traditional dorm. there's just no way your options as an upperclassman are "be lucky enough to be one of Maybe 6 that can squeeze in if several people share rooms" or "live in dorms. hopefully you get a single" when theoretically they should be averaging like 6.5 people per class year. not the point, a gripe i have w canon really anyways, whatever.
