PALETTES Note on brands Most of the North American queens use Juvia's Place at this point. It is a Black-owned brand that Six initially added to help create more options for queens of color, but by now most queens use it regardless of race. As of Oct 2023, most of their palettes are on-sale. Most of the UK queens use Makeup Revolution palettes, although there's quite a bit more range in which they use and some other brands in the mix.

Nicka K Fifteen Color Palette ($5) - Wild Matte palette has decent options for just about every costume (principal and alternate). However, it's not as versatile in how flattering it will be on every skin tone/undertone.

LaRoc Circus ($30) - Great for Boleyn/Howard, options for Aragon/Cleves/orange and pink alt

NYX Ultimate Shadow Palette ($20) - I Know That's Bright has several good options for Aragon and Howard, as well as one or two good shades each for Boleyn/Cleves/Parr/potentially alts. - Warm Neutrals has shades that could work for Aragon and potentially Seymour/black and silver alts.

De'Lanci Mysterious Queen ($50) - This one is expensive but huge (72 colors). Very comprehensive with good colors for just about every queen and alt.

Hey guys,

We all know I am a massive fan of Huda Beauty eyeshadows, especially the 9 pan palettes. They are always really pigmented palettes with gorgeous colour stories. Looking at my collection I always lean towards the bright or pinky toned palettes but I wanted to add something more darker to my collection. Today we are chatting about the Huda Wild Obsessions Eyeshadow Palette - Jaguar .

I have seen this palette so many times walking through Boots or Selfridges but at the time I didn't really wear these colours. However recently I have been enjoying a more smokey vibe and compared to my collection this palette is the most unique. This palette has the perfect balance of soft glam shades all the way to deep smokey eyes. The Jaguar palette features the most beautiful monochromatic purples, a sparkly grey, a speckled bronze & a holy grail black, all the shades you need for a glam look. Like other Huda Beauty palettes you get a mix of mattes, metallics and a new multi-reflective shade.

I adore this palette and honestly slightly mad at myself it took me this long to pick up. When it comes to luxury palettes I would say Huda Beauty palettes are the best value for money since you get 9 shades for £27.00 instead of 4 for £43.00. She has a whole range of colours so I'm pretty confident everyone can find a palette that suits them. Since I'm quiet fair this palette would look quite intense on me but now we've hit the autumnal season I am loving the smokey vibe.

My Top 5 Favorite Makeup Brands

Hello makeup lovers! My name is Ana and this blog is for me to talk about one of my favorite things, makeup. I will start this with talking about my favorite makeup brands, why I love them, products I love from them, and products I want to try from them. 

Disclaimer: I know some brands might have controversies associated with them but I will not be talking about those here, I will only be talking about the products. There are brands I don’t support for certain reasons, so if you don’t support any brand I mention, please don’t shame me for liking the products. You support who you want to support. I am not forcing you to like what I like, this is just for fun and entertainment. You are free to comment what brands you personally love. Also, I am not affiliated with any of these brands, just an average makeup loving customer over here. 

1.  Fenty Beauty by Rihanna 

Available at Sephora in stores/online and Fenty Beauty’s website

I know what you’re thinking.... “Ana, stop jumping on the bandwagon... I know you only like Fenty because it’s Rihanna.” Actually, no. I enjoy the products that I have tried from them (with exception of 2) and I genuinely use the brand everyday when I do my makeup. Their products have such sleek packaging and the quality is amazing. 

My Favorite Fenty Products: 

Gloss Bomb 

Seriously, these glosses are the best I have ever tried. They look so beautiful and glossy on the lips. They are very comfortable and not sticky. They smell so good, like Watermelon Lip Smacker (do you remember those?). I wear them every single day and I love them so much. When I buy another gloss, it’s never the same and I go back to these. Also, the shades literally look good on anyone no matter your skin tone (which is a common theme with Fenty).  They are holy grail status!

Pro Filter Instant Retouch Setting Powder 

I use the shade Butter of this powder and let me tell you I love the fact that it comes in different shades for all skin tones to use. This powder is so smooth and skin like. It smooths out the foundation underneath and makes my makeup look smooth and seamless. It lasts a long time too I love it so much, I use it every single day. 

Products I want to try: 

Full Frontal Volume, Lift, & Curl Mascara

One of my favorite makeup items to try is mascara and I have been dying for Fenty to come out with a mascara. I have seen people like Tati and KathleenLights saying that they really enjoy this mascara and it looks perfect for me since I look for volume in my mascara. 

Flypencil 

I really wish I can have some colorful eyeliners and I have heard that these are the best from many beauty gurus. I am really drawn to the colors they have so I am dying to get at least 2 of them. 

2. Jeffree Star Cosmetics 

I really enjoy Jeffree Star’s makeup products almost more than Jeffree himself. The products are so wonderfully done that they feel like a collector’s item, kind of like a novelty item. Also, the products that I have tried are all so great and are awesome quality. There isn’t a product I have tried that I disliked. 

Favorite Products: 

Magic Star Concealer

I really enjoy this concealer, I wear it everyday. I use the shade C7 and I adore it.  It is my ideal finish and coverage for concealer. It is also perfect to do cut creases with. 

Conspiracy Palette 

This palette in collaboration with Shane Dawson is my favorite Jeffree Star palette (even though I love all of their eyeshadow palettes). The color scheme is very unique compared to other palettes out there and I love the packaging. This palette is something that I feel very fortunate to own. 

Products I want to try: 

The Gloss in Shane Glossin 

I really love the Shane Dawson collaboration and this gloss is super awesome. I have really wanted a clear gloss for a while now too. Also, I have always wanted to try the JSC Gloss formula. 

Supreme Frost

I have seen these highlighters all over social media and it is so beautiful/blinding on everyone. I want to try one so bad because of how unique and stunning it swatches. 

3. Alamar Cosmetics 

I really love Alamar Cosmetics. It represents the Cuban culture (my culture) with colors and packaging that are fun and cute. The names are also very fitting to the theme of the products. They are also beautiful in formula and pigmentation. The quality is amazing with reasonable prices. 

My Favorite Products: 

Colerete Blush Trio (Shade: Medium/Tan) 

These blushes are holy grail status! They are so lovely and flattering in terms of color. They also last the longest of all the blushes I have tried. They are also super pigmented and blendable. I recommend to everyone these blushes and they come in 3 shades that are flattering for such a variety of skin tones. 

Ojitos Brush Trio (Both Vol 1 and 2) 

I have all of the Alamar brushes and they are so amazing. They blend eyeshadow like a dream and they are so soft on the skin. The shapes that are available are perfect enough to create eyeshadow looks and even cutting the crease if you are into that. 

Products I want to try: 

DesNUDEAs Lip Liner- Dulce 

I have heard so many amazing things about this lip liner ad the color Dulce is so my color. Kathleen Lights in particular makes me want to buy it because it looks so amazing on her. 

Brighten & Bronze Complexion Trio (Shade: Medium/Tan) 

I love the blush formula so much that I am dying to try the bronzer. I have heard from a couple of people who have tried it that it’s as smooth and pigmented as the blushes. It also looks so amazing on pictures, I really am dying to get this. 

4. Colourpop Cosmetics 

I am in love with this brand and they are so affordable and cute. I blame Kathleen Lights for making me obsessed back in 2015. I have been using their products ever since. The only down side is that they release too many products in such a short period of time, but they haven’t sacrificed their quality for most of their products (some not so much). 

My Favorite Products: 

KathleenLights Zodiac Loose Pigments 

These pigments are so beautiful and shimmery. In the natural light, the sparkle is so prominent and I love how it looks so much. Every time I wear them, I either get compliments or I cannot stop staring at my eyeshadow or both haha! 

Pretty Fresh Hylauronic Tinted Moisturizer 

This is a new favorite of mine. I have been wearing this as a foundation everyday and it makes my skin look so good. It is so natural and probably the best foundation I have tried when it comes to lasting power. 

Products I want to try:

KathleenLights x Colourpop So Jaded Palette 

This eyeshadow palette is one of the most beautiful I have ever seen and every time I see Kathleen use the palette on her channel, it makes me want to buy it so bad (I did and now I am waiting for it to come to my house). It’s such a gorgeous and unique palette I am dying for it to get to my house. I can’t wait to try this out! 

Pretty Fresh Hyaluronic Concealer 

I didn’t mention this before, but I really liked the No Filter Concealer so I am curious to try this concealer. I have the Pretty Fresh tinted moisturizer and setting spray and I really enjoyed them so I am very curious to try the concealer. 

5. e.l.f Cosmetics 

I really love e.l.f especially because it was one of the first brands I tried when I began in makeup and it is so affordable with genuinely great products. Some of their products are hit or miss, but it’s amazing that they are so affordable and they managed to stay that way even as a cruelty free and vegan brand. 

My Favorite Products: 

e.l.f. Tinted Lip Oils 

I really like these lip oils, they are so lovely and moisturizing. They are the best for summer, especially when wearing minimal makeup. I really enjoy these, they are probably one of my favorite products from the brand. 

e.l.f. Makeup Brushes 

Elf has multiple kinds of brushes but these ones (the all black ones and the ones with the clear handles) are my favorites. They are such amazing drugstore brushes, so soft and great quality for the price (which is around $6-15 depending on the brush- the black ones are cheapest). 

Products I want to try: 

e.l.f Clear Lip Gloss

I have heard so many people on Instagram & Tik Tok rave about this gloss, I really am dying to try this clear gloss even though it looks like it is something super simple. It’s also very affordable which is amazing. 

e.l.f Hydrating Camo Concealer 

I’ve heard great things about the camo concealer and that it is like the concealer I really like from Makeup Revolution (Conceal & Define). I also really want the hydrating one because I have heard it is better than the original & that the original is like Tarte Shape Tape which for me is too dry.

I wholeheartedly support the BLM movement & would love to buy from other black owned brands other than Fenty, especially more independent ones to support wonderful black entrepreneurs out there. I usually wouldn’t be talking about everything that is going on, but it is heavy on my heart and mind these past couple of days so I wanted to mention it. I was thinking about making a list even though I don’t have much experience with most of the brands to showcase the brands’ stories*

Critics’ Choice Awards 2020: The Best Skin, Hair and Makeup Looks on the Red Carpet

Award season just got underway with last week's Golden Globes, and now we've got another batch of celebrity beauty looks to pore over, from the annual Critics' Choice Awards!

Held last night in Los Angeles, the event always calls for a creative approach to glamour—exemplified this year by Lupita Nyong'o's dramatic updo, Olivia Wilde's negative-space cat eyes and Zendaya's pink shadow and box braids.

Has any celebrity ever glowed like Lupita is glowing on this red carpet? No highlighter could create this kind of luminosity! But the makeup is impressive, too—especially the warm red lipstick and copper eyeliner. I'm also digging the cloud-like bun with gold wiring.

Cat eyes are my favourite makeup look for Olivia, so of course I'm obsessed with this. If you look closely, the wings actually have a tiny bit of negative (open) space! Light pink lipstick and a soft bun keep the focus on the eyes.  

Zendaya

Zendaya is taking more and more risks on the red carpet, and I love it! Here, she gave new meaning to "matchy-matchy" by pairing her pink eyeshadow with a futuristic pink breastplate (!!). Box braids down to her waist give it even more flair.

Anne Hathaway

It's been nearly a year since we've seen Anne (who recently welcomed her second child). The only thing she's changed up is her hair colour, by going darker and ditching the red. I think this makeup is just lovely, especially the brown liner to match her hair and eyes. I also love the juxtaposition of a peachy blush with a pinky lip.

Florence Pugh

Florence is a new face on the red carpet this year, and with looks like this, she's one to watch. How fabulous is that shimmery, almost wet-looking white eyeshadow? She also has fantastic brows, amped up with two shades of pencil (which her makeup artist says creates the most natural effect).

This has to be a personal best for Alison! I think it's mainly down to that amazing lip colour (created with not one but three products) and the loose, wavy updo. The orange dress also adds something, because it wouldn't have been as exciting with black. My only gripe is the way her brows were filled in. Hair-like strokes would be better!

After a heavier look at the Golden Globes, Joey lightened things up considerably with this subtly winged green eyeshadow (actually three liners). With understated lips and vintage-inspired waves, it's classic with a twist.

I'm a fan of Saorise's avant garde aesthetic, but sometimes there are aspects that seem a bit too "mature." Like this ladylike red lip and one piece of curled hair... I don't get it! I think something more casual would've worked better with this high, buttoned-up neckline. But I do love the shimmery peach shadow, and the fact that she was wearing bright yellow nail polish!

There's nothing fashion-forward about Kate's ensemble, but I appreciate that she experimented just a wee little bit here. It's the smoky pink shadow all the way around her eyes that is new—and really quite pretty with the slightly warmer pink blush and lip colour. (Seriously, her lips look so good!) I'd prefer it without the false lashes, but we can't have everything.

Awkwafina

Awkwafina is back with another red lip, same as at the Golden Globes, but this time she wore it with long waves and bright gold winged eyeshadow. She has a more relaxed vibe here, but I'm really on the fence about that gold—I think it may be competing too much with the yellow dress. Also, her brows should be ashier.

Kristen Bell

Chartreuse is not an easy shade to wear, so Kristen basically opted out of any strong makeup colours and stuck with peachy, rosy neutrals instead. It's fine, I guess, but she never used to be this boring! As for the slicked-back bob, I think Reese did it better.

Lucy Hale

Then we have Lucy, who at least tried—but didn't quite succeed with this mint and brownish-nude palette. Honestly, I think it's the most unflattering makeup I've seen on her. The colours don't do anything for her skin tone, and the eyes just seem unnecessarily heavy. Jewel tones are your friend, Lucy!

Jennifer Lopez

I'm happy to report that JLo didn't cake on her makeup like she did at the Golden Globes. In fact, this would be quite gorgeous if it weren't for the two-toned skin and her signature ring-around-the-lips. The hairstyle is very elegant, she looks great in the peachy-pink tones, and I can even live with these false lashes.

Mandy Moore

Surprisingly, I was most disappointed by Mandy's look (and I never say that!). I'm not opposed to a low chignon, but something about this hairstyle is so matronly. Her lashes are also insanely clumpy, and combined with the liner look amateurish. On the plus side, the peach lipstick is very pretty.

LANEIGE Wild at Heart Palette Review (Limited Edition)

Hello there shimmers! I’m here for another K-Beauty review for you guys. But then, as you can see in the title, this is from LANEIGE’s Holiday Edition from last year and so I’m not sure if you can still get this from the store. I was a bit hesitant to post this for that reason but after some browsing, I saw a number of shops that still sell this online - I’ll link ‘em all for you later.

Well, back to the review..

I’ve always loved LANEIGE’s special edition collections so I make sure I pick up as many as I can get whenever they launch something new. For the Wild at Heart 2018 Holiday Collection, I got myself the multi-palette.

LANEIGE has a new store in SM Makati and MOA but since I’m never around the area, I just got mine online via Althea Korea PH.

WHAT’S INSIDE:

The palette contains 6 eyeshadow shades, 5 of them are shimmery and 1 matte. It also has a rosy petal blusher as well as a highlighter.

The shades are all perfect for everyday wear. The palette has trendy rose burgundy hues as well as the classic neutrals.

SWATCHES:

Laneige’s very K-Beauty style is apparent in their eyeshadows. They’re not about strong pigments, but more on creamy textures and iridescent shimmers. If you’re somehow expecting a dramatic Jeffree Star moment, this is not it. I used to be so obsessed over Lunasol palettes back in 2011 and if you’re into them too, you’ll love this palette from Laneige.

While I already know what to expect when it comes to the pigmentation level of this palette, I have to say that I’m still greatly disappointed with how the blusher turned out. It simply does not show up! *cue major eye roll moment*. It’s such a shame because the color itself is super lovely, it even has iridescent purple/pink/blue microfine shimmers as you apply it. But it won’t show up until you’ve reached 3 to 4 layers!

On the other hand, the highlighter is fantastic! It also has a gorgeous mix of microfine shimmers (gold/pink/purple) that truly enhances my complexion.

WHEN WORN:

I used three eyeshadow shades for my eyes and this is the outcome. I don’t know how to work with intensely pigmented eyehadows so this palette is perfect for me as they are subtle and very easy to blend. I personally love the neutral shades in this multi-palette. 

I also used the highlighter for my nose bridge, temples, cupid’s bow and chin. I applied the blusher using a huge dense brush and this is the fullest color payoff it can give. I do have pale skin but this one still doesn’t work for me. I think I’ll just use it as highlighter or eyeshadow.

MY THOUGHTS:

I got this palette for 1,810php ($35). Is it worth it? Well honestly, not really. There are better options for multi-palettes out there that come at more affordable price points. You can just go for Etude House or Peripera if you’re on a hunt for cute colors and subtle pigment payoff. 

However, if you’re all for the sake of collecting it, then it does make a nice addition to your collection. I personally love its packaging and limited edition makeup products always have a special space in my heart. The quality is surely top-notch (duh, it’s Laneige!), if only the blusher works then I might give it a 5-star review. For me, the Laneige Wild at Heart Multi-Palette is 3/5 - minus points for the blusher and for the very common color selection of the eyeshadows.

I think when you have a massive makeup collection like myself you sometimes get so excited about new products that other products you love get left on the shelf a little. So today I wanted to do a makeup look using some favourite products of mine that I think deserve a little more hype. Minus the eyeshadow palette most of the products in this collection are from different Revolution collections. So let's get started!!

Anytime I'm doing my makeup I always start with eyes because I am very heavy handed and tend to cause fall out myself and can't even blame a eyeshadow palette. Today we are starting with the Huda Beauty Wild Obsessions Eyeshadow Palette in Chameleon £27.00. This palette is from the Wild Obsessions palette and has the most beautiful colour story. This kinda palette is my favourite because it has the perfect selection of warm tones with pops of colour. When this first came out I used it daily but since then there has been some new Huda Beauty palettes released and I got a little too excited.

Next up we have highlighter. Now I have spoken about this highlighter a lot and most recently I have been playing around with the Kylie Jenner highlighters so I wanted to pick out this old favourite. The Goddess Of Love highlighter by Makeup Revolution , £5.00. This beautiful golden champagne shade is a baked formula that is by far the most pigmented drugstore highlighter I have ever used hands down. I always recommend this to friends and family when they want that high shine finish.

For lips I couldn't decide between two products so since they are quiet different I've added both. Starting with the Roxi x Makeup Revolution Liquid Lipstick in Tokyo (part of a £10 trio set). This lipstick is a beautiful dark pink toned liquid lip and I am obsessed with the colour because it dries down and almost turns into a dark pink nude shade. it's perfect if you want a statement lip that isn't too intense. Lastly we have the Makeup Revolution x Bratz Maxi Plump Lip Gloss in the shade Cloe £8.00. This lip gloss is the only plumping lipgloss I can wear that doesn't irritate or hurt my lips (like the Too face lip injection plump). I love the shade Cloe because it is the perfect light nude pink shade and it is perfect to just throw on with any makeup look. Perfect for a subtle lip colour that doesn't take away from the rest of your makeup.

So moral of the story shop your makeup collection because you'd be surprised how many products you rediscover in your own collection!

A NOT SO SHORT AND NOT SO COHERENT POST WHERE I HOWL INTO THE VOID MY HALF-BAKED IDEAS ABOUT FERENGI CULTURE, SPECIFICALLY STYLE AND AESTHETIC, A COUPLE OF SHITTY SKETCHES INCLUDED

so my most best sister (also my only sister) @moonmothmama is writing a Very Good trek fic set on DS9 featuring her delightful OC’s and one is a newly liberated lady ferengi, so yeah, it’s gonna be Very Good GODDAMNIT (images further down)

i have been obsessed with ferengi fashion since giving DS9 a real chance, and in my unhumble opinion, a lot of trek clothing is drab as fuck. the gaudy, tacky shit the ferengi wear reminds me of early 90′s couches, window treatments and rugs. it’s terrible and i love it.

i’ve been thinking about what that change was like when half (i’m assuming) the population of ferenginar was fully recognized as more than property. ugh, but also FUCK YEAH. the effect on the economy would’ve been bananas- a whole half of the population wanting CLOTHES. the textile industry must’ve exploded, small time tailors and shoemakers getting the best business they’ve seen in years- and the new insights and influences on style must’ve been wild.

think about it- ferengi fashion is already quite flamboyant and loud, with lots of pattern mixing, palette clashing, brooches, tie pins, cuff links, tails on waistcoats (puttin’ on the ritz), collars, vests, piping, ruching, pleating, fringe- you name it, you’ll see it, probably all in one outfit. and now you’ve got more bodies to clothe- i’ll bet fashion designers leapt at the chance to capitalize on this need, and ferengi women most likely were at it first. they saw this demand coming and they were ready to supply, and the first things they produced were most likely the skin-tight catsuits like we saw Ishka in, and as my sis said they’re a nice ‘fuck you’ to the patriarchy- you can see the SHAPE of my body, but you can’t SEE my body under my LUXURIOUS CLOTHES that I BOUGHT FOR MYSELF, so EAT MY SHIT.

anyway, i imagine there was probably a lot of stagnation in the creative sectors of ferengi society and culture- the devotion to the acquisition of wealth made many ferengi unwilling to part with their earnings on ventures concerning science and the arts, unless it was specifically geared toward generating revenue. therefore fashion and design probably didn’t have a very high profit margin, unless you’re designing for the grand nagus or somebody. 

i can see those on ferenginar wearing high waters, rain proof boots, hoods, etc (basically what they’re already seen wearing)- mostly practical but not without the finer touches like bejeweled clasps, breathable linens, supple water resistant leather, anything to appear like they’re keeping up with the joneses. 

that said, they probably weren’t that interested in exaggerating or accentuating their forms, unless we’re talking about the ears. which i’m surprised more ferengi don’t wear ear cuffs and chains to draw more attention to their well developed lobes, but i certainly see that becoming a trend. and the jewelry they do wear tend to be rings and pendants, and actually aren’t that overstated. but statement earrings, necklaces, bracelets and rings will definitely become a Thing, yet another way to display your wealth. and it would be cool to see jewelry have meaning- sentimentality on the whole isn’t encouraged, but what if they had literal meaning- like they resembled the shapes of words or names  

and makeup doesn’t seem to be a thing, i mean considering the amount of makeup the actors are already wearing i don’t see the sfx artists going “but what about glitter eyeshadow and metallic lipstick”- but what about glitter eyeshadow and metallic lipstick? hey, remember the ear makeup trend- i can see ferengi getting into that. and Ishka mentioned her skin care routine, so i feel like pigments and perfumes aren’t a huge leap. 

i plan to do more actual designs of these concepts, but in the meantime here’s the crap i drawred for my seestur:

on the left is some cozy bajoran fashion on Oca, the quiet shopkeep, and on the right we have the irrepressible ferengi Nephis in a fabulous ferengi bodysuit- when i find my colored pencils i’ma go ham on that outfit

and here is what i imagine “dated” ferengi jewelry to look like- chunky, thick chains, rough cut/tumbled gems, probably spikes, swirls and dangling metal disks/beads are common
