If you're on Windows 11 like I am for my "main" computer (in my case for school purposes and because I can't get Baldur's Gate 3 to play on Linux), then you might've seen this annoying piece of AI shit show up on your taskbar:

This is Windows Copilot, and it's fulled by the same shit ChatGPT is fuelled by. There is currently no way to uninstall it, but there is a way to deactivate it completely, which I've linked below. It's very easy, and it took me like, 2 minutes to do.

AAAAAAAUGH! I am so fucking pissed at Microsoft right now! They fucking installed an "AI assistant" on my system without asking me and if I want to get rid of it, I have to edit the fucking registry! Guess I'll get rid of Cortana while I'm at it. FUCKING SHIT. I didn't want to move to linux because I'm lazy but it looks more and more like I'll have to do that if I want privacy or functionality.

trying out the new copilot AI on windows. I just asked it for instructions on customizing slideshows in the photos app. ...and it gave me instructions for iPhone.

Just got an ad for "Copilot on Windows", and it was advertised as "It's your ability to draw... when you couldn't yesterday", and it shows some kid sketching on half the screen while AI turns the sketch into an AI generated image with "realistic detail" on the other side of the screen.

Fucking hell. My controller won't connect to my laptop. And the update is taking so fucking long. Hopefully it fixes the issue. Because it connects to our Xbox console just fine.

Is it still only on snapdragon stuff or is it on intel now too?? Did they patch out the removal command in Choco's last reblog or is it just not working right??

Geek Uninstaller works great to remove garbage you don't want on your PC: X

Group Policy Editor (gpedit.msc) is your best tool for configuring how every aspect of your machine works, but it's no longer included in Home Editions of Windows, so you'll need to download it from a reputable source (I've been able to find safe distributions regularly, but don't want to link just in case - always do your research before downloading anything)

you'll probably have to reinstall Group Policy Editor and remove some programs over and over after major updates, but at least these two give you control over your computer

for my phone, I needed to download management software onto my PC to uninstall garbage and spyware from my phone, and it can be scary deleting apps whose names you don't recognize, but at least the one I use asks "You sure about that?" for system programs, and you can look up the file names to make sure your device will keep working after uninstall

I don't know about Apple devices, but I'm sure white-hats have developed ways to help you out if that's your thing

the fact that we need to go to these lengths just to use our tech without worrying about surveillance and data theft is pure enshittification, and I wish we could all just ditch these enshittified OSes and switch to Linux, but if so few people feel confident about using these personal-control programs and snap-ins, Linux is an unrealistically large leap

Everyone thought Microsoft had heard the backlash and cancelled the project. Nope.

Folks calling Windows Recall “spyware”: do you turn off browser history, every app's recent files menu, undo/redo, and Windows Search? As long as they stick to the promise of it staying on-device (which I expect people to check), I don't see the problem.
